I give Hattie B's Hot Chicken in West Midtown a solid 5 stars. The food and service were good. If you've never had Hattie B's before, it's definitely worth trying. I come here often for lunch. The chicken has the perfect seasonings and is always moist. The fries are delicious and crispy. You can't go wrong with any choice. read more

Decided to visit while we were at a conference and was a little disappointed. The chicken tenders were a bit bland (even with the hot spice) and not very crispy. The grits were OK (not what I've come to expect from southern grits, but passable). The drink was good, although not very strong. Service was great - very nice folks at the front counter. Overall, I would recommend visitors go to a different local restaurant instead of a chain for good southern fried chicken or grits. read more

Hattie B's was one of my most anticipated eateries down here in Atlanta prior to me moving here and WOW did it live up to the hype. I was tried an assortment of fried chicken dishes like the dark plate, the fried sandwich, and the tenders and I'm impressed at how they all can stand on their own. I'm not the biggest "heat guy" when it comes to food so I opted for the medium spice on my tenders and thought everything was going well until the heat snuck up on me like a methodical assassin. It burned so good. The fries are delicious and crispy. The pimento mac and cheese is the item I'm most of the fence about. Some bites were more enjoyable than others but there definitely is a strange slimy texture on the noodles that I didn't find very welcoming, but the flavor of the mac is certainly there. It's simple and standard for similar styled chicken spots, but the pickle is a really nice addition to the plate. I ordered a waffle for the heck of it and thought it was really good. It's more like those mini Belgian waffles that have a crunch to them, not your Sunday morning waffles you can get a diner. Arguably my favorite dish of the meal was dessert--that peach cobbler is magnificent. It's got sweet, syrupy peaches and a crust that gives it a nice contrast in texture. I love Hattie B's fried chicken. Unfortunately, I don't live anywhere near either of the Atlanta locations, but that's probably a good thing for my waistline! This location is on Atlanta's Westside, an area that is certainly up and coming. One of the issues affecting some of the new developments is a shortage of parking spaces, and Hattie B's is affected by this issue. Its own parking lot is tiny. There is, however, paid parking available in a parking garage across the street. Currently, two hours of parking will set you back $6, and customers must pay using a mobile device. R and I came here last week for a late lunch, and there wasn't a line. We still had to wait a few minutes until a front counter employee came to the register to take our order; not a good impression for customers, as the line was starting to form. Once an employee showed up, he was able to get customers through quickly, starting with us. I got a large dark (two leg and thigh quarter chicken sections), mild spicy level, and ordered the pimiento mac and cheese, and greens as my two sides choices that came with this meal, and request some comeback sauce. I also got a drink. R ordered a small white (breast and wing section), but was told that they were out of white meat, so he ordered a small dark and his two sides, and a drink. Non-alcoholic drinks are self serve. Hattie B's also sells alcoholic drinks. After paying, we were given a number to display at our table to let the employees know where to bring the food. There are four areas where customers can sit and enjoy their food. The biggest area is the main dining area, nearest to the front counter and self serve drink dispensers. The next area is the back room. The last two areas are the bar area, and the outside patio area. The three indoor areas are great for watching the big screen TV monitors that are usually tuned in to sports. While we were looking for a place to sit, most of the main dining area tables were occupied, and those that weren't were dirty from the previous customers. The bar area looked like it was being closed off. It was too cold to sit outside. This is left the back room, where we sat down at one of the few clean tables. Lots of big windows allowed natural light to stream in. The noise levels were loud from customers. Our food came after about 15 minutes after we sat down. The fried chicken was nicely done - the chicken was hot throughout, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Very tasty! I'm glad I got mild because it was plenty spicy. The mac and cheese had a runny consistency and was warm in temperature. The greens were hot and on point. Overall, we had a good experience. Hattie bs is one of my favorite chicken spots in atl! Today we ordered the one piece dark and the chicken tenders. For sides we got coleslaw, mac and cheese, potato salad and fries. The Mac and cheese was super creamy and I really enjoyed it! The potato salad was also amazing, it still had some of the red potato skin for some added texture and the flavors were good and creamy as well. For the chicken tenders I got the hot level and I thought it was a good amount of spice! The dark piece we got in medium and the dark meat was so juicy and literally falling off the bone! The added spice to it was great! The service here was super friendly and they bring the food to your table. I have been wanting to try the famous Hattie B's since moving to Atlanta. I was thrilled when they opened one near me in West Midtown. Decided to come with the hubs on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and it was the perfect time! Very short line and quick service. I ordered 3 wings (medium heat) with waffles and a side of greens. My husband ordered a small white piece meal with pimento mac and cheese and cheddar/bacon grits. The chicken was fantastic!! Perfectly seasoned and moist. The skin had the right amount of crisp. As far as sides, I would give the grits a 10/10! Wasn't a huge fan of the mac & cheese. The greens and waffles were OK; probably wouldn't order again. Nowwwwww I'm going to start with the desserts... I'm not sure if this is what happens when things are Gluten free or made in the form of the healthy version but something didn't seem right. The Banana Pudding had the overall look but what I'm used to as vanilla or banana flavored pudding was more like a translucent custard than dense pudding texture. It gave banana flavor but the texture threw my taste buds off. Same with the Peach Cobbler, the crust gave me Raisin Bran flavor, heavy on the cinnamon whereas I'm used to a flaky crust that's plain in flavor and stays crusty in the liquid filling. This crust was being absorbed by the filling (soft texture) which was dark in color not allowing me to see the peaches (too much cinnamon) compared to what I'm used to seeing the peaches in clear translucent filling. At $4.50 a pop I was definitely disappointed in wasting money. Walking in gave me lunchroom vibes... Open seating, order upon walking in, food brought to your table and retrieve your own soft drinks at your discretion. The cashier was taking orders and making liquor "drinks"... my hats off to her and she did it all with the warmest smile . We went with the Half Bird meal in Mild; Pimento Mac & Cheese; Collard greens for the sides also an order of waffles. The Watermelon margarita (wanted to do the Frozen Lemonade with Taquilla but the machine was out of lemonade); The Watermelon Margarita was an excellent and cheaper alternative. We also ordered Peach Cobbler & Banana Pudding for dessert. The Half Bird was excellent for us to share, the mild has a light kick to it so if you don't want spice at all go with the southern style. From the dark to the white meat everything was tender, crispy and juicy. The waffle was definitely a sweet touch to the chicken. The Pimento Mac & Cheese was really good. If your looking for "baked" mac & cheese that's not what your getting here, more of an adult creamy stovetop mac & cheese which was good . The Collared Greens were delicious; just a little bit of sugar to balance out the pork flavor would have made them perfect just like my own. Will definitely be back to try the tenders and the chicken sandwich. read more

My friend and I sure ain't from Nashville, but it's also ain't everyday that were in Atlanta. So, when we got to into the city, you knew that my friend and I were definitely coming here for some hot fried chicken! Going inside, the wait was pretty deep, but we managed to make our order. Tonight we got the 1/2 bird HOT plate (really whole bird - which I'll cover later) and the collard greens + pimento mac n cheese + coleslaw for sides! Going into my review, everything was very tasty! And before covering the food, the price for starters we found was highly reasonable at $18 for half bird and 3 sides! Now going into tonight's meal; the hot chicken possessed a great hot smokey cayenne flavor and subtle amount of sweetness. However, I felt the chicken could've been a tad crispier and use more hot oil. Fortunately, we did request extra hot oil and it did improve the final product! So well, that we wound up ordering another half bird meal! As for the sides, the collard greens tasted pretty fresh, coleslaw was creamy, and the pimento mac did taste like it was homemade! Moreover, the service was very attentive, and our food came out piping hot. Overall, we'd definitely be down to come here again, and we may even order it CLUCKING HOT too. Fried chicken?! Yes please. This place is successful because of its simple menu, friendly staff, quick turnaround and of course the delicious food. The food was also very reasonably priced - $10 for small quarter with two sides. For those who like the spicy-dabble with the "HOT!". Whew, it was HOT! We didn't even try the "DAMN HOT", "SHUT THE", nor the CLUCK UP!!!". Those would have been FIRE but not sure we could have enjoyed the flavor of the chicken. Hattie's is kind of a chain. I like that you can ask for different levels of heat on your fried chicken. The mac & cheese was mediocre, but the grits were so freaking good. I'm so happy that there is one here in Austin TX and I'm totally going there for the grits!!!! This was one of my stops on our fried chicken tour. It was ranked the lowest of all of them but it had some tough competition. It was the least expensive of the places so if you are on a budget, this place will take care of you. read more

Hattie B's is amazing!! I have been to the Moreland location and wanted to try the new location so we gave it a go. We came on a Saturday evening around 7:30 and we had to wait line for just under 10 minutes which was fine. Once we waited we placed our order at the counter and the cashier was so friendly and helpful for ordering. Luckily there was plenty of indoor seating which was great so we found a nice booth. The food took about 10 minutes to arrive which was fine! We started with fried pickles which were to die for!! For the main, we all got the tenders with fries and Mac and cheese and they come with a slice of bread as well. The Mac and cheese is pimento Mac and cheese and it was delicious!! The fries also came amazingly seasoned. On to the Chicken. I have had the medium and thought I could go spicer. I could not lol the medium is the perfect amount of heat while the hot level was just a tad too spicy but still delicious!! The food never disappoints here and is a classic!! Came in for my last lunch before flying home. Parking was a squeeze at this location, cuz it's a remodeled service station. The original roll up doors are still used when the weather is nice, which is cool. I ordered three piece hot tender meal with Mac n cheese and black eyed pea salad. Service was fast and accurate. James the manager was great. I ordered a sandwich and he asked if I wanted to try the hottest chicken they have. I thought "sure, why not," and ate a small piece. I could smell the spicy on this little piece of chicken. As soon as I put it in my mouth my throat, mouth, and sinuses were on fire. It was kicking my butt. But surely it'll go away soon, right? Wrong. It got worse. So much worse. My eyes were watering, my nose running like crazy, I started coughing. I felt... unwell. And that's when I started hearing the voices. They grew louder. They were the voices of all the chickens I've ever eaten. There must have been thousands, hundreds of thousands. Crying out like the people of Alderaan when the Death Star blew up the planet. They said things like "Jason, how could you eat all of us like that?" And, "Do you feel that hot sauce Jason? You are in eternal chicken torment for your crimes against chicken-kind." I believe I achieved ego-death today at Hattie B's. I forgot who I was, where I was, when I was, and why I was. And then James gave me some ice cream and I felt better. Table for 3 for lunch Approaching the restaurant, I noticed a small parking lot was attached with only a few spaces available. Your best option would be to use the paid public parking lot across 10th Street, like we did. We found an open spot, completed the online payment via a scanned QR code, and crossed the street to reach the restaurant.  We entered  Hattie B's, joined a short line that moved quickly. When we approached the register, we received a warm greeting, placed our orders, and then stepped outside to find a table. For our meal selections, my daughter opted for a chicken sandwich with mild sauce and a side of fries. Wifey chose the 3-wing meal without sauce, accompanied by cole slaw and collard greens. I copied her choice, opting for the same 3-wing meal, but with a medium spice level, paired with coleslaw and black-eyed pea salad. We enjoyed the wings and appreciated their generous size, but I wasn't falling out of my chair. I thought the wings could have been a little crunchier and used a little more salt/seasoning. The medium sauce had a good kick, but not overpowering, and my sides were good. My daughter said her sandwich was good, and she appreciated the mild sauce with its subtle kick. She also complimented the French fries for being both good and crunchy. To cap off our lunch, we shared a banana pudding for dessert,  which tasted just like the southern classic. It taste exactly like Chick-fil-A. The chicken sandwich is just a little bit bigger. The macaroni was disgusting. It taste like it used to be. They thought it out and it was very mushy. It didn't taste like noodles at all. The banana pudding, they added a bunch of pudding and they only put about 2 to 3 vanilla wafers with a tiny scoop of cream at the top, I feel disgusted thinking about the way that was. This is the place to go! The ambiance and cornhole outside is great. We came while it was super busy but everyone was just so happy to work there and up beat that it made the experience even better! The only downside of Hattie b's was the parking.. I think the lot has 8 spaces and the rest is street parking so be aware. The chicken did take some time to get out but it was so juicy! I cant believe how yummy it was. We chose the comeback sauce and it wasn't my favorite but nothing can top that chicken! My fiancé got the hottest chicken they had and holy moly the man was crying. Don't recommended unless you want to put yourself through that pain. For sides we got the pimento mac and it was creamy to say the least! Highly recommend getting that as a side The baked beans were ok little too watery for my liking but the flavors were all there. The potato salad. Get it, you won't regret it. I was visiting Atlanta and saw good things about this place online. There wasn't a ton of free parking on site, but the street parking was super cheap- it was only 2$ an hour. My daughter and I decided on Hattie B's for a late lunch date. She had eaten at Hattie B's before but not this location. It was my very first time ever. The weather was pleasant so we decided to eat outside at one of their picnic tables with an umbrella. My daughter ordered chicken tenders with medium heat along with collard greens and fries. I ordered a leg quarter (a.k.a. small dark) with medium heat and banana pudding. Each came with a slice of white bread which I guarantee you will need if it's too spicy The chicken was delicious. However, I am currently undergoing chemo and the heat was too much for me to handle. My tongue was I fire after 2 bites. My taste buds have changed quite a bit. The gracious server kindly swapped mine out for southern chicken, meaning no heat. It was crispy and hot from the kitchen the way I like it. The collard greens were very good. Next time, I'll definitely order them. Be warned the banana pudding is not the southern cooked version but still quite tasty. In fact, it was probably the best I've had out in quite some time. Service was quick and the bathrooms were clean which I always check out. We will definitely dine there again. read more

I appreciate how attentive this staff is. Upon entrance it was clean and rather spacious. Lovely staff. I dined outside and the staff made rounds to check on my friend and I several times during the visit. I selected the tenders meal and a drink which came out to about $15. This was a nice lunch considering I received two sides with the three tenders. I decided on greens and fries as my sides. You may set your heat preference upon ordering the tenders meal and mild was my choice. I could have gone for more spice with the tenders so a level up may be appropriate if you like the heat! The fries were fresh and lightly seasoned. The greens were tender but lacking in flavor. Which brings me to the tenders. They were plated neatly on a slice of bread and topped with pickles. However the flavor was not there. The tenders were Somewhat dry so I assumed they had been cooked a bit longer than desired. Everyone has been hyping up Hattie B's fried chicken ever since I moved to Atlanta. I finally tried it and it was quite delicious! The chicken was so perfectly fried but still extremely juicy on the inside, which I feel like is really hard to do. I got the mild level of spicy which was still a bit spicy for me but not too much to the point where I couldn't eat it. The only thing I would say is that the chicken was a little bit more salty than I would've liked. Also, is it weird that I really loved the side dishes and fried pickles more? I couldn't get enough of the pimento mac & cheese, the coleslaw, the red potato salad with bacon bits and the fried pickles!! I'll definitely be coming back to this place, especially since the staff there were so nice and accommodating. Next time I might try the chicken sandwich as it look like everybody else was getting that. Just a reminder that parking is a little limited. There are maybe 6 parking spots next to the restaurant.
