Really bad experience! I used to like going there before, but now everything changed, music is not good anymore on Saturday night and the service is so terrible!!! We had a birthday party there on Saturday and it was around 12 people in our table, food was not so good, but the service...oh my God -the worst service ever - they did not clean our table at all, empty glasses, pitchers and plates were sitting on the table for an hour, and even after asking 3 times to clean it they still did not do it, another thing I asked 3 times to refill my water and bring some lemon with it the server just ignored me totally, then on a forth time she brought water but didn't pour it in my glass and disappeared before I could say anything... Plus I had to move the dirty glasses myself to another table cause the staff simply wouldn't do it...So I don't think I will come back to Havana anytime soon! read more

I went to Havana for dinner and the food and ambiance were great. The waitstaff was attentive and very informative. I highly recommend the pollo coco limon or the steak cubano. Both entrees were perfectly cooked and had a lot of flavor. I would go back to try a few more dishes on the menu. read more

Havana is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! Every time I have a new guest in town, I take them here. I have never stayed late enough to watch the band (I believe they don't usuLly start until after 11), but the food is fabulous. I would highly recommend getting anything with their poblano cream sauce. I like the atmosphere, it is very cozy. It is small, but that what makes it special. I have heard however, some hispanic friends of mine saying the food didn't quite live up to their expectations on authenticity (and they would know best!) but from an average jos standpoint, I would sat it is outstanding. read more

I had dinner here last night, and I would definitely be wiling to come back. They have a large menu and good vegetarian options. The outside seating is nice, but it's a little cramped. The inside looks lovely. The chiles rellanos have just the right amount of kick, but some of the other favors were a bit overwhelmed by the cheese and cream. This was a wonderful experience for all of us. We were surprised by the experience, the atmosphere, the service and the food. The Salmon a la Parilla was so delicious and succulent and the mixture of flavors on one plate were the perfect concoction of tastes. I will be back. I will be back again soon. My friends and I stopped in without a reservation and we received the service as if we were family. Stopped in yesterday around 3 pm. Service was terrible. Only one other table occupied at this time and multiple waiters. Took 20 minutes to get the waiter to come take our drink order. 30 minutes later we still hadn't received them and pulled the waiter over. He argued that we hadn't ordered anything from him (???) and did not seem to care, in fact he seemed annoyed that we wanted anything from him. Authentic food, great value. I recommend the guava and raspberry mojitos, as well as the margaritas....yummy. Specialty drinks are around $8, which is just...amazing for River North. Their black bean and corn soups are so delish, and I love the calamari and ceviche for apps. The spicy sauce on the Latin Burger is tasty, and the Tilapia is done well. For dessert, I've tried the guava cheese flan (wow) and their tequila sorbet, both of which are great. The people were really friendly there..made friends with someone at the bar, and the service was good. Great art deco decor, cool mural too of a guy smoking a cigar. This place was excellent! 5 Stars all the way! We had the crabcakes as an appetizer and we were very pleased we ordered them. They had the perfect blend of temperature and spice. Our entrees were the halibut and the latin burger both of which were cooked to perfection. The halibut came with rice and was very filling. The portions are generous and the service was great. My boyfriend and I stopped in here for dinner on a Saturday night. I ordered a dish that was described as a choice fillet with a spicy tomato sauce, over rice and beans. My dish came out and it was nothing like the menu described. It was shredded beef and there was no sauce. I would have sent it back, but our waiter never came to ask us how our food was. My dish was not only disappointing And bland, but it was also $17. My boyfriend had the cuban sandwich, he said it was bland also. I think our waiter chose to ignore the fact that we clearly weren't happy, because he never once asked how anything was. Never eating here again. read more

Come here on Friday or Saturday nights for half price mojitos! they are delicious and a pitcher is like $15 or something. Crazy good deal. I really like havana, usually the mojito special is what brings me in. I haven't had a lot of cuban food in my life so I can't judge how "authentic" it is. I got a pork dish (perhapd the cuban roasted pork? ). It came with some plantains, some yucca I believe, and other fixins that I don't remember. But I do remember that it was GOOD. I also got some chocolate cake for dessert which was meh - okay but not worth it. If you get a dessert here I'd recommend trying something different.... If you want some tasty food and delicious affordable mojitos, I'd recommend this place! Though if you are looking for super authentic cuban food I am not very familiar with cuban cuisine so I can't tell you how havana stacks up there. read more

I just recently went to Havana with my sister and mom. I had been here once before just for drinks and they were great. Wish i could say the same when dining. I had the calamari salad. I had it fried and at the time it was really good. But regretfully a few hours later i was throwing up. My mom had the same thing except not fried and didnt feel well also. Very pleasantly surprised! I went here years ago when it was Mambo Grill and I remember it being good, but not good enough for me to return. Last night on a failed attempt to go to Frontera Grill we decided to take a chance and it was the right decision! There were a few tables sat when we got there, but it got more crowded as the night went on, almost to full capacity I believe. ~ Sangria was half off for a pitcher, and it was pretty tasty. We opted for red and it was actually a pink color so Im not sure what type of wine was used but its good none the less. Not too sweet and complimented the food well. My only complaint is that it was very lacking in fruit, but not a dealbreaker. ~Ceviche was good, not great. The seafood was fresh as well as the chips which wouldnt be expected. While the flavors were good, I would have liked a touch more salt or maybe heat? Id order it again, but just wasnt wowed, it need a lil something. ~Pulled Pork was very good like others have mentioned. Again, the pork was cooked to perfection but needed a little more flavor. The combo of the pork, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn was excellent. Its a huge portion, it barely looked like I made a dent in it. ~Chicken in Plantain Leaf was tasty, but not sure I would order it again. Ive never had anything cooked in a leaf before and that flavor is very strong. It came with mashed sweet potatoes, emphasis on the sweet, and fried plantains which were tasty and not greasy. Beware! It comes with this very spicy sauce...one drop is enough to light your mouth on fire. ~We skipped dessert due to overstuffedourface syndrom, but Im looking forward to going back and trying the coconut flan or keylime pie. ~Our server was very sweet and had good suggestions; no complaints on the service at all! Went to Havana on a Saturday night for a bachelorette party. We had 8 ladies and no reservation but they had a table for us. We were sat downstairs away from most of the people. Our server, Antonio, was friendly and made great suggestions. We started with a pitcher of white sangria and a pitcher of red sangria. I'm not a wine drinker but the white sangria was quite tasty. Chips and guacamole were average and the Tostones were good. For an entree I ordered the pulled pork. The pork was very flavorful, the jalapeño mashed potatoes were a tad dry but the creamed corn helped blend all the flavors together. We ordered one of each dessert on the menu. The flan was ok, I prefer more of a light caramel sauce over my flan. The girls really enjoyed the chocolate lava cake,the key lime pie, and the guava cheesecake. Pleasant experience. The ceviche was lack luster as it was mostly peppers, tomatoes & onions...not sure were the fish was exactly?! The crab cakes had a good taste though. A group of 10 girls visited Havana for dinner to celebrate my 30th bday and it was AWESOME!! The food was soo yummy and our waitress was very nice. I had never heard of the site gdine before until my friend suggested it. Seeing that it was a large group of us, using gdine would def make our dinning experience super easy! Great experience, I loved the fact that we didnt have to worry about how to split the bill at the end of the night, because everyone had paid for their meal individually and hassle free through gdine!! There was a delay from the time that we were given our appetizers and when our entrees were served and had we all been hungrier after those appetizers one of us would have asked why it was taking so long. Luckily we were too busy chatting and drinking to make a big fuss. I had the mango mojito and it was delish!! One of my girlfriends had the sangria and that was very good too. Once our entrees came out, everyone's dish looked and smelled delicious! ! As the bday girl (and having awesome friends), I was able to try pretty much everyone's dish!! Mmmm...I recommend the apricot pork chops, the lechon, the jalapeno mashed potatoes were also yummy!! The empanadas for appetizers were the best!! Everything was so full of flavor :) There was a minor hiccup on our bill, as we had been charged two extra drinks, when in fact they had been part of the gdine package, but the waitress was nice enough to fix the prob. If a restaurant aspires to be in the Cuban category, it needs to start with a great Cuban sandwich. Havana fails miserably. I asked when I ordered if the sandwich was good, if it was true to the authentic recipe. The waitress enthusiastically encouraged me to order it. What a mistake! It was so far from the original...on a roll rather than pressed, without mustard and pickles, and with pork that was dry as sand in the Sahara. The space is beautiful and the waitstaff is attentive, but that's not enough to pull this place up close to average. read more
