Went for first visit at 2:15pm on a Tuesday afternoon. Always try to go at OFF hours because less crowded and noisy. Was perfect time, had Mac & Cheese and Kale Caesar salad. My luck with gastropubs may have changed. I never thought much of the concept, which usually meant I'd end up half-full with a meal I paid full price for. But Haven was worth every penny. I came here with fellow Yelpers Drew M., Nicole M., Shane D., and Trina D. after the Elite event at the Muckenthaler (the what? ....Google it; it's a sweet little spot). We were starving and the food simply couldn't come fast enough. High marks for their mac 'n cheese, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and their chips - served with a garlic aioli - were incredibly good. I got to sample Shane D.'s curried goat poutine and Trina D.'s chicken & waffles, both of which were surprisingly well put together. Gastropub. To the self-definers, it's a pub that offers quality cuisine that typically stands out from their brethren. To me, it's a place that's 50% Yard House and 50% greasy spoon diner. They had a small variety of exclusive and seasonal beers, but I was little disheartened when our servers couldn't easily recommend which beers complimented which entrees and vice versa. On the flipside, the servers help has always been attentive, courteous and never invasive from the three times I've been here. I hope this places gets better in terms of recommending which foods go with which beers, but in the meantime I probably won't be coming back here until I hear otherwise. read more

The Haven Burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had! Don't know why people keep hyping up Urmommy burger or even driving to LA for Fathers Office when the best burger is right here. The environment here is pretty dope and service has always been good. They always have a ton of craft beers on tap. Only con is that the music is pretty loud so it's hard to hear people talking. Epiphany ensue. The term 'gastropub' was coined in 1991. How could it have taken mankind this damn long to figure out that good food and good beer = good times. I'm no psychic or business entrepreneur, but the future is in 'gastromedicalmarijuanaclinics'...patent pending, patent pending, patent pending. But for now, Haven Gastropub, is more than suitable. After dining here a few times, I definitely stand firm on my opinion that it's just ok. The service is friendly, but seemingly forced and the food is tasty; just not spectacularly mind blowing. My favorite part is the great on tap craft beer selection they have. The most recent visit I had the Reunion ale 12 by schmaltz & terrapin (7.9% brown ale). Very yummy! read more

As a hopelessly single and depressed man, who has never known the touch of a woman above the knee I can say I love this place. I've only been once and I totally dig it. If Haven was a woman I was on a date with, I'd probably take my pants off right away and dance around (ladies, that's how you know I'm really into you). The food is pretty awesome, the beer selection is freakin' fantastic. They refuse to serve Bud and Coors. I mean, hell yeah! I recommend the home made chips to start. Amazing. They feature a lot of local brews as well as a number of popular imports like Old Rasputin and Chimay Blue Label. The service was great and friendly, too, even if Jessica punched me in the neck after asking for her phone number.... We had dinner here last night, and I think I prefer the lunch menu. A couple in our group had been looking forward to the short rib tacos. Not on the dinner menu. My Mac 'n Cheese was good, as was the lamb burger. The marguerite flatbread was good. But two in our party had the yellow tomato risotto and thought it very sweet. And one person, maybe her own fault for not reading the menu description, was surprised at the Citrus Salmon, which was cured not cooked, i.e., ceviche like. So 3 in the group were not particularly happy. Also, the member of our group who made the reservation was bothered by the attitude of whoever called to confirm it. Much was made about telling him to be on time, that the reservation would not be held later than 15 mins., that no seating til everyone was there, etc. when we are there 15 mins early, of course we are kept waiting, though the table we were to occupy was empty. It seems as though the gastropubs are popping up every time your turn around. What ever happened to going out and getting a no nonsense burger and a beer? Why does everything have to gourmet? Dang, I must be getting old. Anyway, went here for lunch and they have a good selection on the menu? For appetizers, you cannot go wrong with their homemade chips served with garlic aioli or their salt and vinegar chips. I have to say I have a weakness for salt and vinegar. I went with what I believe they call the Haven Burger which is once again a gourmet burger. It was cooked to my liking and was alright. For me, I would have preferred an In-N-Out Burger but believe me, it wasn't bad. The burger was served with fries which were very good. Many different beers on tap however I was here for lunch and didn't get to experience any of them.....only got to window shop. The staff was attentive and helpful, continuously approaching us to see that we had every thing we needed. The atmosphere here is very nice. Very rustic and castle like creating a nice environment. If I lived in the area, I think this would be a good place to hang out after work or on the weekend. I don't think 3 stars is a bad thing at all. I wasn't sure what to expect coming here as the Yelp reviews I had read in advance were pretty strongly divided. Myself and +1 had seen Haven at a few events and so decided to give them a shot. We arrived around 10PM on a Saturday night and the place was lively. Despite how busy it was, we were seated immediately. The ambiance was great. The compliments end there. Service was quite slow and it took several minutes for a waiter to introduce himself. We quickly ordered a couple glasses of wine and the Porchetta di Testa as an appetizer. It was basically some very fatty pork head roulade sliced thin covered with some arugula and shaved gruyere cheese. The dressing was near non-existent and the pork was extremely fatty. (I'm a HUGE fan of bacon don't think I'm unaccustomed to fat; but c'mon... a slice of fat and some greens, a solid dish does not make.) As dinner came, things got worse. I ordered the roasted duck with butternut squash, sauteed winter greens and a potato hash. The duck was dry and the skin was hard and inedible. The entire entree had been plated on a sea of sweet barbecue sauce. The greens, butternut squash and potato hash were drowning in BBQ sauce. The sides of veggies were very, very small; less than 1/4 cup each. The potato hash was overcooked and burnt. Being diced so finely, they resembled little black and brown Chiclets. The Ms ordered the beef cheek poutine. It was basically a skillet of shoestring fries covered in a beef check stew. While it sounded and looked delicious it was far from it. The fries were so over salted, we almost though someone spilled an entire shaker in her dish. The waiter asked how we enjoyed the food. I said "eh" and +1 just frowned. The waiter had no response. We really had no confidence that the kitchen could have done any better if given a second chance, so I didn't push the issue. Final damage: $100 including tip (15%) and the worst meal I've had in a very, very long time. If anyone eats here and enjoys it, I have no respect for your opinion on food. read more

Jo: I'm sure it's Yelp hype. Steven: So many reviews can't be wrong... Final Outcome: We were both right. Very nice ambiance. Atmosphere is really cool.. doesn't seem like it would be a "gastropub"... reminded me of someplace you would go to back East to grab pizza and a glass of wine. GREAT beer selection, and the beer flight with the open selection was a treat. This means you can mix and match, instead of sticking to a pre-set flight- so that was fun. I am a HUGE cheeseburger fan, and Steven's cheeseburger was something I know I would never enjoy just by the looks of it- way too messy and fanciful. My pork sliders were mushy and lacking flavor... drenching them in BBQ sauce actually woulda saved them a bit but I didn't want to insult the nice waiter so I didn't ask. I might go back and try the salads, and hang out with some friends for some good imported beers, but as far as the whole "gastropub" theme, they didn't hit it in my book. read more

I have been meaning to write a review about Haven since the first time I went which was the weekend after it opened. I have been numerous times since and for good reason. Even with all the positive things I will say about Haven there still are a few that annoy me. The Good: Beer: It goes without saying the beer selection is phenomenal. I always look forward to seeing what the latest selection will be. I love the fact they have some of the local brewery beer from the area on hand. Select food items: The burger, Mac N Cheese, The Flat bread Pizzas, Homemade Chips, and my favorite item was the Pulled Pork Sandwich and I say was which I will get to in the things that annoy me. Annoyances: The more expensive dishes are just trying too hard. The braised rib had good flavor but seemed to be mostly fat. Last time I got some fish dish, which sounded great, but when I got it I was seriously thinking this is it? I have had blackened items in the past but from a presentation it looked like a piece of charcoal (and about that size) that just turned me off. Running out of things. I had to visit Haven 3, yes 3 times to finally try the Irish Car Bomb desert. It was great when I finally got to try it, but having to make three visits to do so left me disappointed each time I was told then were out. Beer running out but not telling guests. This is something that has happened every visit. I sit down, start drooling over my beer choices, select one only to be told sorry we are out. Would it be that hard for your servers to let me know when you are out of a certain beer when handing me the selection? How about offering it in a bottle if available? This it really unacceptable One last gripe and this will cover the pulled pork sandwich. Haven had a pulled pork sandwich that was awesome, but now (or at least the last time I was there) it got switched to sliders. I'm sorry but change it back. The bread the sliders were on was hard as a rock and all I tasted was bread. Why change something that was great to something I would never order again? Speaking of sliders. What happened to the corned beef sliders that were over flowing with meat? In conclusion the craft beers are great and stick to the cheaper menu items. PS. Haven has great customer service and atmosphere. In these regards, it really can't be beat. However the menu items are a tad unique in the sense that it will not be quite what you are expecting, which can be good or bad depending on your preferences. Staff is very accommodating and the flavor is more than expected. Highly highly recommend for anyone looking to impress a date or friend. High quality. Shoulda listened to the reviews before I came here... HAVEN GASTROPUB IS A NO-NO. So bad. The only thing good about this place is the English strawberry ale I got. Great. All the reviews were accurate. I was skeptical of all the bad-mouthing Yelpers are prone to do, but everything I read here before going to Haven was 100% accurate. I was shocked. I feel like everyone has drank the Kool-Aid at this place but me. Maybe I am biased because I can walk there so it's lost it's excitement after the first couple times. The menu changes throughout the seasons and usually their fall menu is the better of the three. They choose to use more game/traditional meats in most of their dishes than other restaurants generally do. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily make it any better, it just makes it heavier and not well balanced. They make three things well here which are their burger, mac & cheese, and french onion soup. But honestly how hard is it to make those three items? I can go to Lola Gaspar, Memphis, The Crosby, or Playground for same thing and with out having to deal with servers that would rather be any place but here type of attitude. The beer selection is good but over priced. Frankly most things are over priced in the circle so I guess you can't really blame them for that. If you are looking for a unique beer experience then I suggest Hollingshead's. My advice is if you do go make sure it's in the middle of the afternoon because if you go at night be prepared to wait on the street. If you are going with another person you will be sat elbow to elbow with another table for two, especially true for night time. So it's best to go in a small group so you can sit at a booth. I'm pretty much over this place. I've come a couple of times before and had an OK experience. The beer selection is great, and the food is tasty enough, but when the bill arrives you feel like you're being ripped off. Last night I came with several friends, and had some of the worst service I've ever experienced. Our server - SEAN, who looks like a hipster and has a mustache - couldn't have cared less about our table if he tried. He took our drink and food orders fast enough - we all got Havenburgers, I got a nice IPA which I forget the name of. But after that, his service basically ended. Our food took almost 45 minutes to arrive. I kept looking around for Sean to ask where our food was, but he was no where to be seen! Not once after taking our orders did he check up on us, refill drinks, or let us know our food was taking 10 years to make. I finally had to confront him at the bar to ask where the hell our food was. He mumbled some excuse about the place being packed, and it was on it's way. Yeah, the place is always packed. Doesn't excuse the fact that you're not doing your job. Meanwhile, a large group of people who were seated much later than us had finished their food before we even dug into ours. When our food finally arrived, one of our orders was missing. Sean had completely forgotten to put in one of the Havenburgers. Suffice to say, he barely got a tip, and looking back on it he shouldn't have gotten anything at all. To wrap things up - don't go to Haven unless you like a snooty environment with overpriced food. Mixed feelings about this place. I ordered the Margarita Flatbread and it was really really good. Large fresh slices of mozzarella on it. Everything here seems home made and not "cookie cutter". My main issue is... I could only eat 2 things off this menu... that and plain french fries. No changes to the menu allowed which isn't my thing. Dessert was good: bacon ice cream with a rich brownie... pretty good nothing too special, and the bread pudding which was also very good... a tad on the sweet side. Beer... k I didn't like it, smelled like food... didn't sit very well with me. So I probably wouldn't return because I can only eat one thing off the menu, since just fries probably wouldn't do the trick, but I have to give it at least 3 stars because I did enjoy my meal. read more

Ehhh... The decor and nice selection of beers made this restaurant seem promising. Gourmet comfort food sounded lovely too. There was a wait to be seated, which made me feel pretty good about the food. I wanted to like this place soo badly. None of the employees I interacted with were very nice. At all. The hostess seemed annoyed, bartender seemed annoyed, and the waiter treated us like we were morons when speaking to us. I asked him for a beer suggestion, since they were out of the one I wanted. He was just like "Ugh, I don't know. Just get one". Awesome. We ordered the brussels sprouts, a chorizo flatbread thing, and pulled pork sliders. I have to say, the brussels sprouts were pretty delicious. Lemon-y, prosciutto-y good times were experienced. The chorizo thing was supposed to be spicy, and it was. The spicy was out of control overpowering. The thing is, I LOVE spicy. Cholula, Tapatio, and Sriracha go on most everything I eat. This dish just didn't taste good. There was no balance of flavor. My homie got the pulled pork sliders, which came with fries and "homemade ketchup". This ketchup has gotten good reviews on yelp, but i hated it. Waay too sweet for my unsophisticated palate. Anyway, my friend, being a traditional eater, asked for a side of ranch. The waiter looked SOOO stoked to tell her that they don't have it. I know. Ranch dressing is not the classiest food ever. Understood. But it is delicious. If a restaurant really cares about how the food tastes and is not just trying to be snooty, they will have ranch. Let's be real people. This is not The Hobbit. Half the customers are wearing flip flops, for god's sake! The pork sliders were decent, but kind of bland. Nothing special for the price. When it came time for dessert, I was intrigued by the idea of the bacon ice cream (and horrified by the notion of blue cheese ice cream. Shudder) Alas, I was over spending any more money. The food we ordered was not great, so I didn't want to throw down 10 dollars more at the gamble that is bacon ice cream. I appreciate the organic, creative blah blah blah that they are trying to achieve, but this place did not do it for me. Not fancy enough to be fancy, not cheap enough to be good. I would have rather gone to Omega's for a delicious cheeseburger & fries (with ranch!), and then bought some beers from Hollingshead. The people there are waay nicer. read more

For the Orange and general OC area, Haven is a much needed addition offering craft beer and modern comfort food. Haven has great ambience, perfect location next to the Orange circle, friendly and quick staff, but only mediocre food and flavors...I'll explain the 2 star rating later. Maybe we ordered the wrong items, sometimes knowing what to order can be all the difference...but tonight, we were 0 for 3. We ordered: Lamb burger (med rare)- great brioche bun, burger was a bit dry/overcooked, and way too much tzatziki. It's like having a burger with so much sauce or cheese that it hides the flavor of the meat. Sometimes with food, less is more. I appreciate and like how they actually offer a lamb burger, but I've definitely had better. The truffle fries that came with it were overseasoned with sea salt, again less is more. Ceviche- flavors were acidic, one-note, and almost too tart. I know ceviche needs the lime juice, but great ceviche has a balance between acid, heat, seafood flavor...maybe more avocado, heat, and bigger chunks of scallop/shrimp would have balanced this out. Short Rib Sliders- braised short rib that wasn't very memorable. Walk up the street to the waffle place and experience what great braised short rib should taste like. Any place that serves escolar as a dish gets minus one star...unless you enjoy Russian roulette with your underwear. It's a great gastropub in Old Town Orange. Their ketchup sauce is so good, I think it's roasted tomato aioli. We always ask for more. It comes with their house chips, fries, and burger. My friends always eat their macaroni, I'm not the biggest fan, but it's truffled and they find it delicious. They have a great beer selection. They're the only place that serves golden drake that I've found. read more

I ordered the pork sandwich and the boy ordered a burger and both were so good we hated ourselves afterwards for not having eaten more. We also split the mac and cheese and how could anyone resist that cheesy goodness - especially when you dip those heavenly fries in the cheesy joy? I couldn't even save room for the candied bacon ice cream cause that perfectly lovely organic apple cider was the perfect compliment to my meal. You disgust me. Everything here is tasty. Their excellent fries w/ homemade ketchup slash tomato paste, their steak with chocolate deglaze, their pork belly with celery puree... it's all good. And crazy weird beers, too! But, the reason why you really go to Haven is this dessert. Traditionally, an Irish Car Bomb is a *very* alcoholic drink that you down in one gulp. Take a shot-glass filled to the brim with 1/2 Jameson whiskey, 1/2 Bailey's Irish coffee. Drop it in a glass of Guinness beer. Sounds like a very strong drink (and it is), but somehow the combination of alcohols tastes just like a dessert! Well, Haven Gastropub took it to the next level. The cupcake is infused with Bailey's, the ice cream is made with Guinness beer, and the caramel uses Jameson whiskey. Now, remember that it's not easy to freeze alcohol. Since, given enough time, alcoholic ice cream will fill apart, they make the Guinness ice cream made to order. Pretty cool, right? And yes, it tastes awesome. read more

Haven Gatropub is amazing. I came here this past Sunday with 5 other friends. We all wanted to try it out since we all heard good things. The wait wasn't too long, only about 15-20 minutes. Everything on the menu looked so delicious. Service: The service was great. Very attentive staff. Food: The food was great. It was difficult deciding on what to order. So we decided to order almost everything (not literally)..haha. We wanted to try the Wagyu Tartare, however they run out for the day. We did order the mac and cheese, truffle fries, haven burger, lamb burger, and the sliders. The mac and cheese was super good and flavorful with truffle shavings. The fries were absolutely yummy. Especially if you asked for some of the house made ketchup. The Haven burger was extremely juicy. I want able to try the lamb burger, but my friends did not care for it too much. He said he didn't like the sauce. The sliders were good, but I definitely like the burger better. Overall a great experience. I would definitely come back. It's been a while since I've been here, I see the chef changed because the food was not good! One of my favorite was the fried pigs ear but they changed it and put a really sweet sauce on it, yuck!! The poached egg on the pork shoulder was over cooked, the yoke wasn't runny anymore; I mean you can't really mess up something simple as that! I'm fed up with this place. I can accept that their prices are a bit steep, it's loud and a little pretentious. But what I cannot accept is the attitude of some of the people who work here. Really lousy. This has mainly been with the bartenders. I came here months ago and wanted a pizza, except I don't like goat cheese. I asked if they could substitute another cheese, please? They said, no. I said, can you not put the cheese on it, then? Nope. Then I wanted one of their cocktails featured on the menu the previous summer. The bartender says they're out of pineapple juice. I said, well, can you make something similar? He does it with a huge attitude, won't look at me again (I'm not even kidding) and places a drink in front of me, walks away, doesn't even ask if it's alright. Ooookay ... Came here tonight. I order a pretzel at the bar. 15 min later, nothing comes. I ask another bartender if my pretzel's coming. He says, do you have a tab? I say, no. And immediately he goes to ring up a pretzel and puts a bill in front of me. I'm like, "I actually don't want it now. I ordered it 15 minutes ago, and I'm ready to leave." He goes, "No, you ordered it 30 seconds ago. And now you don't want the pretzel?" Holy crap. His intention was to straight up embarrass me. Gee, thanks. Just avoid these snobs. Seriously. read more

OK - charging for "filtered tap water?" Seriously??? Yes, the Haven which is constantly changing its menu and staff is now charging for tap water....not bottled water....tap water. We have freqented the place over the last two years, but lately it has been trying very hard to lose it's charm ... and customers. Service has gone down hill (except for a few "old timers") and the food isn't what it used to be. Prices are too high for drinks and mediocre food. It takes way to long to get your food (15-20 minutes)...and it's correct only 70% of the time. Benefit: Great location - right in the heart of Old Orange and a great place to meet, but don't stay long. I'm sorry - did I mention they will charge you for a glass of tap water?! read more

THIS HAS IT ALL! SALTY EVERYTHING! FIRE HAZARDS! RIDICULOUSNESS! Wine and beer! As to the fire hazards- turns out that was us. We originally had 6 diners and then 1..2...3... more people showed up, and then IN THE MIDDLE OF DINNER, we were suddenly being asked to go wait in the bar area because 9 people at our table was a fire hazard and we could put our names on the waiting list and they'd let us know when a table was ready. ... K they knew we were going to have 8 people (the 9th was a surprise to all of us) but really...? You have open 2 tops RIGHT NEXT TO US and you're telling me we're a hazard...? I suspected what they wanted to do was flip our table for another group of 6+ people in the bar area so they could get them seated and bring them food. Because being an attorney and all I looked up the fire codes and I still to this day cannot figure out what made us a fire hazard. In a restaurant that was not at capacity. With open tables nearby. We asked to speak to the manager and were told no, that wasn't going to happen- fire code. Etc. etc. So I paid my portion of the bill and left, so that 9th person could have a seat. All fine when we returned to 8. Whatever. I was over the salty food anyway. I think my favorite bit of Haven was definitely the wine and beer bit. Why is EVERYTHING SO SALTY?? Geez! Even the fries were too salty and they are FRIES! And it's so expensive!! I'm likely only going to come here to drink, nothing else. And not with more than 1 person. read more

My 5 month food baby and I are very, very content after eating at Haven Gastropub tonight. I was pretty excited about trying this place out and it did not disappoint. Upon stepping into the establishment, I was already quite impressed. I expected grunge but instead it was clean, rather spacious, and somewhat classy for a pub. Plus points ! The waiter proceeded to tell us that everything is freshly made from local ingredients of the highest quality. No joke. They even make their own ketchup (more about that later) !! We went on a Wed. night so it wasn't too packed and we were seated almost immediately. Now onto the food & drink! Drink: They have beer flights for $8, where you get to choose 4 beers from their tap. They have quite an interesting array of beers- almost all of which I had never heard of but 3/4 I selected were fabulous, the 4th was decent. Food: Housemade Potato Chips- I got the housemade potato chips to start since they are soaked in beer (yum), covered with fresh herbs, and served with a garlic aoili. They're very thinly sliced and quite flavorful so if you don't like rosemary (like my roommate) don't get them! I love rosemary so I gobble gobble gobbled them up! Haven Burger- I like 'em real thick and juicy, so find me that Haven burger, I'm down for some tasty, tasty murder! mmmMMmMMM Yes. It was THAT good. With pickled red onions, roasted peppers, arugula, and some cheese on a delicious bun. I scarfed the entire burger as my roommates watched in astonishment. Little do they know how good I am at eating. Braised Short Ribs & Hanger Steak- My roommates got those entrees and were not impressed. I tried a bit of the braised short ribs and they really were not that great. Tender, yes- but lacking flavor. For some reason all the waiters named that their favorite dish. The Hanger Steak was ok, but I didn't really taste the Mexican chocolate or cayenne pepper. I would recommend just sticking to the burger. Ketchup- This often overlooked sauce gets its own paragraph because it was THAT good. My burger came with Pomme Frites and naturally that came with ketchup. Housemade ketchup that actually tastes like real tomatoes! What a concept. I had to ask for extra ketchup because I doused my fries in it and used it all up rather quickly. It was like crack ketchup- I just could not get enough. Our waiter apparently was not a huge fan of it because he grew up with Heinz, but whatever, I thought it was a brilliant concoction. Tomato paste, cinnamon, tabasco, some other stuff (?)... omg who knew! I'm so making my own ketchup now. Good lord that was delicious. I'm pretty sure our waiter thought I was insane for raving about a condiment... but I'm sorry. That ketchup deserves to be appreciated. Dessert- Irish Car Bomb! Irish cream flourless chocolate cake with Guinness ice cream and a Jameson caramel sauce. You can really taste all the different alcohol flavors. It might even be better than a real Irish Car Bomb. Good thing I have an extra stomach for desserts. It barely fit but I managed, somehow. I am so going to take more people here. And rave about it at work. And on yelp. Great new upscale-ish pub it the orange circle. They have some great original food and they have beer from a local brewery that I love. It has a very nice modern feel to everything in there. We had the housemade potato chips for a starter, some of the best potato chips I've ever had. I had the Haven burger. Its nice size burger with pickled red onions, roasted red bell peppers, wild arugula, st agur cheese. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The GF had their mac n cheese, this is a must have if you get the time to get out there. All in all this is a great place and I can see my self coming back here in the near future. read more

I would call my visit a soft opening since they didn't have the full menu available due to the street fair that was going on this past weekend. I was informed by the owner that the full menu will be available soon. But I did enjoy the food from the limited menu. I would say besides the large crowed that roared through the restaurant inside and outside, I can see potential for this place. The Medieval/ English pub decor was a nice touch. The bar was big and fully loaded. There is enough room for large groups of customers. The price for imported beer is what I liked the most about this place. The average price was roughly $5-6 per pint glass of beer. Usually at a mainstream restaurant you would pay more. They had beers that you don't usually see in other places. Although the music playing was awesome I would have lowered the volume a bit. It was a tad hard to hear what my friends were saying. I'm going to go back soon for the Corn Beef Sliders and the Irish Car bomb cake. I would absolutely recommend this place for any occasion. OMG. Just awful. I went here really hoping to love this place. We went in, they told us there was a 1.5 hour wait. Yeah, ok, we'll go to the bar. We went to the bar, and there was some d-bag bartender who told us that basically half of the IPAs were out of stock. Their menu turned from hell yes to "Um, so what DO you have?" The markup is like 300% and the selection is totally Bev-mo. There are no tasters, and the beer is not on-tap (all bottles). I had a glass of Pinot Noir that was uneventful. The food was repulsive. Yeah, I'm a foodie kind of girl, and tried apps. I actually SENT IT BACK it was so bad (it was just... bad. I would have rather tried cat food). I would have tried the dessert, but I just wanted to get out of there. We ended up going to Beachwood bbq in Seal Beach. Thank you, Beachwood, for saving us from ourselves. read more

Located in Old Town Orange, Haven Gastropub is a cute little pub that people like to come to for some food and good beer! I came here a couple of nights ago with a party of 4. We arrived around 6pm and were seated right away. This place was pretty full, even at 6pm! We were there about two hours and I wonder how crowded it gets later on in the evening since it was hopping the whole time we were there! For food, my boyfriend and I split the Mac n' Cheese and the Mushroom Flatbread. The Mac n' Cheese was superb and we loved every bite of it. The Flatbread seems a little burnt and neither of us really enjoyed it. I also ordered two beers on tap and they were great and strong as well. Our friends we were with ordered a Salmon, a burger and a couple of drinks too. They said they really liked their food and drinks. For what we got, Haven was pretty expensive. For two dishes and two drinks plus tax and tip, our total was close to $60!! Our friend's portion was close to $70. Not worth how much they charge! On a side note, all four of us mentioned how noisy it was in here. We were practically yelling at each other and our table was very small!! After a long afternoon of holiday shopping, you definitely acquire a thirst for some gourmet suds. I say to the misses what do you have bookmarked in your brain that offers some good beer. I get, let's try Haven Gastropub in Orange, we'll let's do it. We arrived around 6 p.m., for a Saturday night it was fairly busy but not overly packed, just yet anyway. We were seated instantly. The pub is nicely decorated and very comfortable. It has a more upper class feel but not pretentious. I felt completely comfortable, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered some spicy chorizo flat bread to share, my wife had heard on yelp that some customers felt the spicy flat bread was over powering, I found it well balanced. Yes it is spicy but it did not take away from the fire roasted taste nor the fresh cheese and chorizo. I enjoyed it very much. For my main, I opted for the Haven Burger, for me this was one of the best burgers I have ever had. The bread roll was very gourmet and the combination of ingredients worked very well. For a burger it was not greasy at all, the meat was moist, not oily, the cheese was sharp and not greasy, the arugula was very fresh along with the onions and fire roasted bell peppers. Fantastic burger. The dish comes accompanied with their home pommes frites and homemade tomato sauce. For the price, I thought it was a great deal. The beer selection on tap was much diversified. This is a great place to visit to get a feel of Old Town Orange County. The area has a really good close knit feel. I've been seeing Haven Gastropub on the hot list and put it at the top of the list on places to eat at. I came here with my eating gang and we all ordered different things to try off of each other. They also have a really extensive beer list if you are a alcohol enthusiast. My friends and I ordered the Homemade potato chips w/ the garlic aoili. These chips were beer battered and came out tasting like it was just made. One of my friends got the Haven burger which was really flavorful with a good kick of side ingredients. The truffle fries were okay couldn't really tell the difference with the reg and truffle. My other buddy got the pork sandwich and that was the very disappointing. The pork tasted really soggy and seemed to lack a lot from it. Our 3rd friend got the buttermilk fried chicken with the orange-habanero bbq dip. The chicken tasted amazing but the dip was just too much. The chicken was better off on its own. I got the Mac n Cheese. That dish was delish! It was really cheesy and the top was extra crispy which made it that much better. I read on yelp that a lot of ppl got the candied bacon ice cream and opted to try that even though I was full. I really don't know what to think about it. It tasted like caramel ice cream with chewy bacon. I love bacon but not in my ice cream. This restaurant is a good place to go to if you are visiting old town Orange. Recommendation: Mac n Cheese, Haven Burger, Homemade Potato Chips. read more

came back again because its close by and sometimes you feel like you have to give places another shot. never again. the restaurant was half empty but we waited for 15 minutes. the hostess was rude. she took our phone number and after a while of standing on the sidewalk finally i'm thinking "why are we waiting this long?" and we walked up to check with her and she goes "oh, i can seat you now." am i really doing your job for you? seated wedged in between 2 other couples who can hear every word we say and we can hear every word they say. that is annoying to me. i like talking to people, but i am literally having dinner with these other couples. it's awkward. everyone feels awkward. i dont care who you are. hubby ordered the beef cheek poutine and i had the halibut. i wish i had ordered his food. it was pretty good. i mean it was $15 for gravy and french fries and 2 pieces of wiggly weird beef but it was at least food. my halibut was a single piece of fish over some cream sauce with a couple beans and dried mushrooms and 1/2 a beet. i'm like wtf where are the carbs? i was still hungry after! for $25 i should not still be hungry!!! the martini i ordered was fine. hubby loves the beer. but our bill was $85 for 2 beers, a martini, and 2 entrees. and i left hungry. that's just so frustrating to me. the food was fine, the service was fine, but come on! overpriced snoody food in a cramped spot. so over these types of places. read more

I can't say much about the food because after waiting for nearly an hour despite having reservations and being there on time, our party of 8 found ourselves standing outside, hungry and without any idea when we would be seated. Service? None whatsoever! Too bad. I was so looking forward to getting a pint of beer and some fish and chips in this gastropub. But wait! This "gastropub" does not serve fish & chips. Go figure! The ONLY reason this place gets two stars instead of one is because they serve the most delicious burger I've ever tasted on the face of the earth. That being said, their service is soooo God-awful that I think I might be content to just eat subpar burgers for the rest of my life. I've been there several times and each time it gets worse, so unfortunately it doesn't really appear that they are working on it, despite other reviews complaining about the service. The last time I went was a couple of weeks ago for a work lunch. There were 11 of us, which apparently their staff couldn't handle because they split us into two groups and had two separate waiters serve us. You might be thinking, "Well, that sounds GREAT... more servers equals faster and more attentive service." Not at Haven. The two waiters did not communicate at all, which led to half of our group getting their meals at least 25 minutes before the others. Also, our manager ordered two chip appetizers, one for each table, but his waitress apparently couldn't be bothered to bring chips to our table. Our manager had to ask where they were after his table had already plowed through half of theirs, and she said that she had told our waiter to bring them (which he obviously did not). One of my colleagues ordered an olive appetizer, but our waiter hadn't brought it by the time our food came. Someone at our table pointed out to him that we hadn't received it and he apologized and walked off. Twenty minutes later, he STILL had not brought it. Finally, as we're getting ready to order dessert, he comes with extra plates and spoons and tells us he's going to bring something "special" (a chocolate dessert) to make up for the olives. It was a nice gesture, but why didn't he just bring the olives when we asked about them? The poor girl who ordered the olives doesn't even like chocolate and so she didn't eat the dessert, and it was really dry so the rest of us didn't enjoy (or finish) it, either. Despite having two servers, our drinks were never filled. They weren't even busy, but everything took such a long time that we ended up being there for close to two hours (which actually was a nice break from work, but still completely ridiculous). And they were out of the strawberry shortcake dessert we wanted to order. They even ruined the one saving grace, that heavenly burger, by cooking it to the level of well (over) done, when I had ordered medium. Plus, their beer selection can be equaled and even beat elsewhere in Orange County and for much, much less than they charge. I think next time I am craving a burger, I will go to Slater 50/50s... it may not be quite the perfection that the Haven burger is, but its pretty damn good and the service is FAR superior (see my review of Slater 50/50s). read more

So yes... obviously its been a while since I've written my last review, but something must be said about Haven Gastropub. I visited Haven last night with one of my friends, who was excited about a new hangout spot that was open till late and had a nice atmosphere. Haven's 2am closing time was awesome, as was the decor and feel, but the awesomeness ends there. I should have gotten a clue after tasting my dirty martini... I didn't know whether this interesting concoction of marinated olive juice and vodka was good or bad, but after a few sips and the urge to gag came about, I had to promptly send it back and clean my palate with a cigarette. The martini had a brown tint, and an almost savory, fungal taste to it... quite reminiscent of Chinese herbal medicine.... which is a clear sign to stay away. My friend ordered the mac and cheese while I opted for the buttermilk fried chicken. I give Haven credit for presentation, and perhaps the presentation is what set my hopes for some delicious comfort food. On first bite of BOTH dishes, the vision of tap water appeared in my mind... necessary for sustenance, but completely devoid of any flavor whatsoever. As the mac and cheese claimed to contain black truffle, I was curious as to where the truffles actually went! I believe Kraft makes a better mac. I honestly don't want to start on the chicken. How can you ruin great quality chicken drummets this way? While nicely battered and fried, there was absolutely no seasoning! Somehow or another, even the chicken's natural flavor had disappeared! How was this possible!?!? In terms of service, drinks came out quickly and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. Flagging down the waiter for our check took quite a while, and in my opinion was completely unacceptable for the lack of crowd they had that night. Ding, ding, ding... that's three stars subtracted for food and drink quality, as well as slow service. If you're looking for a late night place to hang out, this is it... though if you're looking for good food, I suggest you go elsewhere. read more
