We went for dinner and there was a wait which was fine. I didn't like that the ladies at the front didn't even make eye contact when they told me that it would be 30mins before I would be seated. Service however was good and the music selection was great. The food was disappointing. Brussel Sprouts small dish was the best thing we had but could have used salt. I ordered a mixed drink, forgot what it was called but it had gin, ginger beer and strawberry. I'm a light weight drinker and even I thought it a weak drink plus it was extra sugary. I was expecting a kick of ginger beer but could barely notice the hint of ginger. Chicken and waffles which arrived soggy since they dressed everything before bringing it out. The chicken isn't really what I'd call Fried chicken. Technically it was but it just wasn't very good. The cornmeal waffle would have been ok had it not fallen apart due to the amount of hot sauce and maple syrup that they put on the dish. Pork belly. It was burnt and mealy. The celery root puree was not rich and I'd call it a mash, i think of puree's as being finer. The fennel salad didn't really add much to the dish. Was hoping for a little balance but never found it. Maybe it was because it was a busy friday night but I waited a few days before I wrote the review. I had hoped I'd feel strong enough to say I'll give it a second chance but it's just too far and expensive to return. read more

My meal wasn't bad nor was it amazing. I ordered the radicchio salad with poached egg and bacon and my friend got a French onion soup with the mixed green salad. I can say the soup with the melted crusty cheese was yum! We ordered a flight of beer to share (since I don't have the highest of tolerances and we had a few important meetings afterward) which included two Fizzy Yellow, another Pilsner and one that our waiter "generously" offered to choose himself. WELL, I was very PEEVED to realize that he decided only to be generous to his food sales as the 4th flight he picked was $5 compared to the other $2 selections we chose! WHO DOES THAT? Keep it at $2, $3, or $4 at the MOST, come on! Anyways, I took the difference off his tip and I hope he noticed. Experiences like these make me not want to come back. Another thing...I asked him about any favorites on the menu and he raved about the prawns but failed to even mention the Haven burger which apparently got many accolades that were decorating the walls on the trip to the bathroom. Their Mac & Cheese is AMAZING! It's probably the most unhealthy dish on the planet...but if you want to splurge...get their Mac & Cheese!! I really really love this place! It's so much fun...it's located in Orange just as the surburbs end and the city, bustling part begins. Met up with a friend here for dinner and the wait was about 40 min long on a Friday night. It went by really quickly though because the bar was up for grabs. It was too packed to snag a seat though. It's not too pricey--just pricey enough where you really get true value for your $10 Mac & Cheese. They have a ginormous selection of beers here. I got their organic apple cider & it was delicious! Huge bottle. I also got their truffle fries, and they were almost as good as the Mac & Cheese. I love the ambiance of this place -- it's truly like a britain pub!! It's got the drinks & ambiance of a bar combined with the decor & space of a nice restaurant. There's outdoor seating as well with heating lamps. I have been here three times, under three different circumstances (once for a late lunch with friends, once for dinner with my husband, and once for dinner with my 2-year-old niece and her grandpa - my dad) and each time I leave feeling totally underwhelmed and slightly angry that I chose Haven over the many other Orange restaurants; vowing that I will never go again. After our service tonight - I think I'm officially done. They have a great beer list, a really interesting menu, a cool environment, but the service bites and the food always leaves something to be desired. I keep trying to figure out why this is. The service thing - just is what it is. They must have a high turnover, because the waitresses always seem very confused and scared to ask the chef for any alterations to the dishes - I understand this is something they prefer not to do and print on their menu, but c'mon you're in the service industry. As for the menu, and their specials, I think they are super creative and really good at writing copy - because everything is enticing. However, when it arrives it is either luke warm, over cooked and dry or just not as good as it sounded on the menu. However, with that said, they have great fries. It is a good option to go for a beer and some fries. But that is all I'm willing to endorse. Lastly, it is over priced for what you get. This is my favorite restaurant. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I first ordered the deviled eggs based on Yelp recommendations, and it's as good as advertised. Eat it with the pickle in the same bite, the flavors from the pickle and the deviled eggs play interact in such a beautiful and delicious way. For drinks, I order the Oaxacan cocktail. It's a refreshing-type drink, with strong citrus notes. Entrees, I almost exclusively order the lamb burger medium rare. The burger is expertly seasoned, while still keeping the gamy lamb taste. Highly recommended. The fries are plentiful, and their homemade ketchup is great. However, the fries themselves are a little too salty for my taste. If I'm still hungry, I'll also share an order of the donuts. The donuts are very good, but not quite on the same level of excellence as the deviled eggs and lamb burger. For a long time, all I would order is the deviled eggs and lamb burger, and sometimes the donuts. I also loved bringing new people to the restaurant, and not a single person has been disappointed. Bringing new people also allows me to try some of Haven's other menu items, which are quite delicious! However, it's hard for me to cheat on the lamb burger, it's just so good. The negatives are that on Fridays and Saturdays nights, the restaurant is loud and the waits are long without a reservation. However, they're so good that I've waited over 1.5 hours for a table. It's in the Orange Circle, so we did a couple laps around the area to burn some calories. It's much less crowded during weeknights or during lunch. I've been there during lunch on a weekday with a friend, and there were only three other customers in the restaurant. I consider myself a discerning appreciator of food. Haven has some good and bad points. The Good - For me this was definitely the food, which is def the most important thing. I had the braised oxtail dish and it was great. The meat was very tender and mouth watering, but was served with gravy on top of fries, which struck me as a little low rent. We also tried the brussel sprouts sauteed with mustard, prosciutto, and garlic and savored every bite. This dish was so good and appeared so straightforward that my g/f and I tried it at home with great results. The Bad - The beer was good (to be expected at a gastropub), but was overpriced in my opinion. I've been to equivalent quality places and didn't have to spend quite so much on each beer. I'm cheap. Also, the place was so loud that it kind of detracts from the meal, I guess I understand that Haven is a gastro"pub", but when I'm eating good food I like to be able to hear people at my table without asking them to repeat themselves 5 times. Finally got a chance to have dinner here with my girls. The food was good, but the service and dessert were a bit of a letdown. What I loved: the poutin, duck & prosciutto flatbread and the brussel sprouts all stood out. Poutin is basically French fries with gravy on top, but their version had pulled pork mixed with the gravy and melted cheese on top. Compared to the other dishes we ordered, this one is not the most visually appealing, but don't let that fool you. The pulled pork was very juicy and tender and the entire dish was very comforting. Something I could eat all day, even though I know I shouldn't. The brussel sprouts were amazingly scrumptious. I think the fact that they are cooked in bacon helps. I can count the number of times I've had brussel sprouts in my life on my right hand, and these were by far the best I've ever had. It has actually changed my whole perception of brussel sprouts and I think I'm going to try to recreate this dish at home. The server had recommended it and it was by far my favorite of the night. The duck and prosciutto flatbread was also very good. A great combination of flavors and not greasy like I expected it to be. It is also perfect for sharing. We also tried the mac n cheese, lamb burger, pumpkin flatbread, and crudo. These were all good dishes, but not anything special for me really. Some things I'd like to mention are that the bleu cheese was really overpowering on the pumpkin flatbread, which really didn't bother me but could definitely throw some people off and also THE FRENCH FRIES that accompanied the lamb burger were A-MAZ-ING!!! I'm not sure what they cook their fries in but they are just the right amount of crispy and utterly delicious. I would actually go back and just eat these. We also tried the candied bacon ice cream, which I was looking most forward to and found pretty disappointing. The ice cream tasted like bacon grease to me, and I didn't really care for the flourless chocolate cake beneath it. It was also plainly garnished with a drizzle of chocolate sauce, so not as aesthetically pleasing as I feel a dessert should be. I would have preferred some bacon bits scattered around the dish or maybe some slices of bacon on top of the ice cream to add that "crunch" that was missing, as well as some character to the presentation. I just wanted to see some actual bacon in my bacon dessert! Before dinner we sat at the bar and ordered some of their specialty cocktails: the Atomic 47, Samurai Swing and the Elder Bison, as well as a strawberry mojito. The drinks were all good, but the bartender seemed annoyed when we asked any questions or if he had any recommendations. He kept telling us the bar menu just changed so he was not too familiar with some of the ingredients. Then, when our table was ready, our hostess said we had to close out our tab at the bar before being seated, which seemed like a real hassle. They were really strict about sticking to our reservation considering it was a Monday night. They only reserve a table for you if you have 7 people in your party and told us that if we were 15 minutes late they would give our table to another party. Granted, it was pretty busy for a weeknight, the hostess was very accommodating when our entire party arrived and we only had 6. Our waiter was very cool (thanks Kevin!) and helpful and made great recommendations. However, the other staff was not as capable in clearing dishes and dropping off more silverware since we were sharing dishes. I guess I had high expectations of this place since I had it bookmarked for so long. But still, I'm glad I got to try it, and I would definitely eat here again. read more

I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of haven gastropub for months. i drove past the sign stating "opening soon" every morning on the way to work with a hopeful heart and an empty stomach...lemme tell ya, it was worth the wait! my girlfriend and i started off with a beer flight, and after talking to the friendly waitress for a bit, found a couple of beers that we really enjoyed. i had the Shepard's pie, she had the cioppino, and we split an order of the mac and cheese. the shepards pie was killer, very cheesy, great mix of lamb and beef (i can handle a little bit of lamb flavor but dont really care for it) and the cream sauce was bangin. the cioppino was made with fresh seafood and tasted great. the big standout in that dish was the squid. it was cooked perfectly, not tough or rubbery at all. well done haven chefs... the mac and cheese, you ask? the pasta was cooked very well, not overdone and squishy, the cheese was plentiful and creamy, and the toasted cheese and bread crumbs on top really sealed the deal. it was fucking good! we left haven stuffed with good food and buzzed on great beer, i cant think of anything bad to say about the place, hell, i'd probably write more nice things about it, but the beer, shepard's pie and mac and cheese put me in the kind of food coma that only a nap can fix. i'll be back soon Haven. read more

Besides all that stuff, their beers are legit. If you come here and order stuff you can easily get at the liquor store I'll be so mad at ya. I came here right after eating at Bruxies (i know, I know, we're fatties) but we ordered the french fries, brussel sprouts with pancetta or procsuitto i forgot and the english pea risotto. Everything was really delicious albeit a little pricey but that's what you get for quality food. The fries were so good and so were the brussel sprouts. I think the risotto could have used a bit of work, the rice wasn't cooked all the way and some of the peas were still hard. Plus, the risotto I'm used to eating has a little more "give" to it, and theirs was pretty hard and viscous. The taste, however was on point. We ordered some cocktails and they make a mean old fashioned as well as a deeeliiiiicious concoction called a Moscow Mule, which has vodka, lime and GINGER BEER. It comes in a copper mug which keeps your drink COLD the whole time you're drinking it. Delicious I say, delicious! I had to knock a star because it was expensive for what it was in my opinion. :And the mishap on the risotto...crunchy rice should be avoided when making this dish! read more

Oh...twas the night before the night before Christmas. That great day before the 48 hour onslaught of home cooked food, aka: a Yelpers worst nightmare. My group of ten showed up buzzed, very hungry and still thirsty. After arriving at 8pm with a large party and no reservation words could not describe the level of shear dread I was in with regards to an ensuing wait. But I was not on my turf and the terms of my current situation were not 100% in my control. SO, I convinced myself the only way to alleviate this overwhelming feeling of anxiety was to drink 2 Green Flash IPA's and eat the softest damn pretzel I have ever ordered. Thank the Sweet Baby Christmas Jesus that Haven has a large bar area capable of cranking out drinks as well as app's with the quickness. Once sat our group all pretty much ordered the same things..The Haven Burger cooked 'medium-plus' was absolute perfection, order it as is, sub nothing. Add the prosciutto brussel sprouts and golden topped mac-n-cheese and you could possibly need a change of pants at the table. (damage from the front, not the back) I guess I'll be returning to this place, but just remind me to bring an extra pair of jeans. read more

I came here for the candied bacon ice cream but ended up eating a huge burger and downing an Irish car bomb so I guess that means I have to go back :) First off, I need to tell you about my dislike for onions. Raw onions give me the gag reflex. Grilled onions, and I mean REALLY grilled animal-style onions, I can do. They're fine because there's none of that disgusting raw flavor. They don't taste like onions anymore. Onion rings? Yeah. I can do that. Again, as long as their cooked through, it's all good. I cook with onions because they give other ingredients flavor, but I never actually eat the onions. It's like a bay leaf. It's there for flavor but not for consuming. The pickled red onions? OMG. YUM. I got the burger which was delisshhh and now pretty high up there in burger VIP. Delicious bun with juicy meat, roasted red bell peppers, arugula, and pickled red onions. The homemade ketchup I could have lived without... It kind of tasted like spaghetti sauce with a touch of bitterness. The downside of my experience was that I waited an hour for a table but it totally worth it. We enjoyed Hitachinos at the bar along with an Irish car bomb. The four of us came here for happy hour the other night without any real knowledge of what the happy hour menu was going to be like. There isn't any updated information online. We called beforehand to check if we could reserve but alas, they only reserve for 7+ people. We took our chances and nabbed a tall table in front of the door without a wait. Score. Two items (of which I wanted to get) were no longer available-- chile relleno and the pulled pork sandwich. Cool. So instead of 5 WHOLE items to order for the happy hour, we can order 3. They should consider replacing the two that are unavailable. Minus 1 star. We ended up getting the Haven burger and the mac & cheese. The burger had too much bleu cheese-- next time I'll make sure to ask for it on the side or at least ask for easy cheese. Trust me. Easy on the bleu cheese. The medium rare meat thought was perfect. I had no complaints about the mac & cheese, though it's not worth the 6$. Also, their house ketchup tastes like applesauce. Red applesauce. Bring your own or something because their jalepeno and garlic sauce just taste like different variants of ranch. Their bacon ice cream is to die for. The brownie that comes with it is mediocre as fuh. Minus 1/2 star. I actually don't drink beer, everyone else was all for it so they had a difficult time choosing beer off the incredibly large selection. Have I heard of any of the beers? I could name maybe 3. One eventually order the unibroue trois pistoles, some belgian dark ale, that he did enjoy very much. It was light for a dark beer. Plus 1/2 star. My suggestion in terms of cocktails is to NOT order ANYTHING on the rocks. It's tiny. So tiny. With so much ice. We didn't spend $10 to sip on ice. If you like stronger cocktails, the manhattan is the way to go, but try asking for less ice because that's just ridiculous. The Saint is wonderful, served up. The whiskey sour (made traditionally with egg whites for 9$) is decent-- but it's called a whiskey SOUR for a reason. That shit was not the least bit sour. I ended up getting a well gimlet as well, which the waitress brought out in this cute little shaker and shook it for me at the table. THAT is what sour tastes like. Not whatever was in that whiskey sour. In terms of taste, the drinks were good. In terms of price, the drinks were overrated. Minus 1 star. Our bill totaled ~72$. With two happy hour food items and the rest mostly being alcohol, that's ridiculous. read more

Good beer selection but the food menu change is disappointing. I've eaten at Haven since it opened in 2009 and it had always been one of my favorite restaurants. When I went this evening, we discovered the menu changed and our favorites (lamb burger, Margherita pizza, homemade potato chips) were taken off. We tried the only burger that was listed on the menu and it was mediocre. Definitely not the same quality anymore. Please bring back the menu items that made Haven special! read more

I know there are 500+ reviews on this place at this point in time, and I know that everyone raves about the burger here and how good it is, and I know how cool everyone thinks this place is, and I know how good the chips are, and I know how good the ommegang witte beer is, but I just gotta say it myself! I've grown to love it. Wasn't that much of a fan in the beginning, but it's grown on me, like a wart on my neck, with one long hair growing out of it. The servers are cool, they just have to get new uniforms because they look like UPS delivery workers in their brown attire. It's not the cheapest place, but I'd say the prices are fair. I'm ballin' in money so it doesn't really matter ;). So yeah, if you live in the area, you HAVE to try this place before you die. read more

I was really excited for the haven burger and the mac and cheese which has been arguably proclaimed by many as the best in oc. the HB had very good proportions. an excellent meat to bun to veggie ratio, which some of other highly esteemed gourmet burgers tend to lack. I was able to get every inch of the burger in every bite. nom. sadly though, subpar patty flavor, and wth?? it wasn't juicy. it wasn't overcooked or anything either..but it wasn't juicy! o.O I was expecting the juices to overflow and a soaked bun, but instead, I got the reverse. a dry, minimally flavored patty with a nicely toasted bun. not a bad burger per se, but not the best burger of all time. fries were yummy! a mcdonalds and in n out hybrid; i know, i know; comparing gourmet restaurant fries to the mac daddy of chains isn't necessarily a good thing, but let's be honest. you would deem yourself worthy if your fries evoked nearly the same guilty pleasure sensations that mickey d fries did. m&c was not for me. creamy yes. and the golden crust was an added bonus. but little flavor, little salt. it may have helped if it was served in a deeper dish, as to increase the cream:crust ratio. surprisingly, despite the many claims that haven tends to be overly salted, I found everything to be missing that punch and pizzazz that perhaps that extra dressing of salt might help to cure. service wasn't bad, but, like the food, was hardly stellar. the final verdict on haven gastropub has yet to be determined. perhaps another go at the other interesting menu items will help me to decide, but for now, this 3.5 will be rounded down to a 3 star A-OK experience. read more

Laziness prevents me from giving Haven the glowing review that it deserves. I have tried almost everything on the menu and can say that the only items I have not enjoyed are the Arrogant Mussels and Shepherd's Pie but I should have know better considering that I don't like Arrogant Bastard beer or Shepherd's Pie. I consider myself a Mac & Cheese connoisseur and theirs is definitely at the top of my list. It can be a meal on its own or shared as a side.The fritto misto, chips with the aioli, the drumsticks or the brussels sprouts is always my dilemna when it comes to ordering an appetizer. My favorite dish of all time at Haven has been the venison but it is no longer on the menu so my go to is now the Braised Short Rib. I love the pulled pork, although we did have an off night once. I love their Margherita flatbread. Um I could go on but this review has already gotten repetitive. Something to be prepared for is that their menu is set, they do not alter their dishes for you. So if you order in for the hamburger, they will not change the cheese, they will not give you BBQ sauce on the side, and so forth. If that is what you are looking for, you should go to Red Robin at the Orange Mall. It is sad to read that other people have not had the best service because that is one of the reasons I love it. Maybe it was my snotty attitude asking about the purse hooks but somehow we always get a hello from the owners and staff besides our waiter, who is almost always Neil who I love to pieces!! As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like I am going to hang out with my friends even if I am by myself at the bar. We went on Sunday around 1. Sunday menu is different due to the 5 or so brunch type food options that all sounded really good. It just limits the rest of the menu a bit. They were out of 3 menu items we tried to order but when we were seated nor when we placed the drink order were we informed of this until we tried to actually order. We had the deviled eggs to start, as delicious as other reviews indicate. We had the fried chicken sandwich. It was a huge portion, perfectly cooked, crisp and really well seasoned. Very good, I would order it again. I only found it odd that it was $6 to add fries to it when the burger and other items all come with fries. Makes no sense, especially since the fry portion wasn't even close to the $8 portion you get when ordering a side of fries. Just charge a few dollars more to the price and include the fries. Odd gripe, I know but it's just one of those things. Good beer on tap options, plus full bar. They have a nice, small patio outside too. read more

Went here on a date night with the wife for an early dinner. Nice place, we had noticed a few weeks earlier when we were shopping at the big antique store next door. I remembered that they were open late til 1 or 2am with a full kitchen, which is a nice to have an alternative to the Norms/Denny's patrol. Food was really good. The wife had the pork belly, which she raved about. She didn't like the Rose that she had, but wine can always be hit or miss. I had the Haven Burger sans onions. It was good, not great though the fries and homemade ketchup that accompanied it were tasty. We ordered the candied bacon ice cream (yes, you read that correctly) on a chocolate brownie. My wife was freaking out over the bacon ice cream, she loved it so much. It's not bacon flavored ice cream, but rather vanilla with bits of candied bacon. Real good, but you might as well call it Double Fat Ice Cream. One thing, avoid the window table near the bar. More of a nook than a table with flat wood benches that are 2 inches too tall. My Catholic butt is used to sitting on wood seats, but I had to keep leaning forward on the edge of my seat in order for my feet to touch the ground. Plus, it got busy and all the people who were waiting to be seated for dinner congregated by our area to order drinks at the bar. We'll go back, but definitely with a group vs. just the two of us. It just the type of place that feels more enjoyable that way. read more

This place is deliciously amazing. Loved the location and the ambiance. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon so it wasn't crowded at all. Heard all about the Haven Burger and truffle fries so I didn't even consider getting anything else. First time anywhere I'll always order their signature anything. It was cooked to perfection and the truffle fries are to die for. I also had a flight but I couldn't tell you what I ordered I just picked random brews. It was delicious though. This place seems to be pretty popular cuz it always seems to be crowded no matter what time. I can only imagine what the lunch/dinner rush would be like. The ambience can get noisy here so you might have to yell your conversations. Plenty of TVs to watch sports. This place would be awesome to watch the World Cup. Beer selection, both tap and bottled, is awesome for those that love obscure imports or microbrews. I was elated to see Unibroue's label on tap here but it wasn't La Fin de Monde (that's bottled). I think they have a sampler where you can select up to four beers to try. My goal is to try every beer that I haven't had yet (not in all 1 sitting, mind you). I've only had the flatbread here and it's pretty delicious so I think it's a good indicator that the other menu items will be too. So if you want to feel more sophisticated when in Orange, come here. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVED the food here, and the beer was delicious! Got the Rouge Cherry - This is probably a once or twice a month sort of thing cause it was somewhat pricey. (Well maybe just "me" pricey cause I'm a cheapskate) but the food was delicious! We got the Mac & Cheese to start with and it was very yummy. I got the pull pork sliders, first I ate one french fry and fell in love. I am not normally a fan big pieces of rosemary in my food, but in the fries, it was delicious. The ketchup tasted fresh made too, it was all delicious I hate 75% of my fries before I event touched my sliders. Which I regretted because when I pit into that pulled pork slider...oh man FREAKING DELICIOUS! Definitely would never come back and wouldn't reccomend. First off it's very pricey and almost no selection of food. We ordered the poutine tots. 18 bucks for a small portion. It smells like canned dog food and all I taste is salt. I wanted a blue moon type beer which they dont have. My husband ordered a beer that tasted like mrs. Butterworths in a glass. I absolutely love this restaurant. This is one of the few places I continue to recommend to my friends. The vibe is nice, the server are very knowledgeable about the beer menu, and the food is positively amazing. most of the items on the menu are heavy, so it's a comfort food heaven. Must try meals: Mac and cheese (the best you will eat in you life!) the lamb burger is SO good, the fries with the homemade ketchup (it has a slight apple taste to it, yum!) and the Sheppard's pie. Order coffee and they serve it to you fresh in a french press. I also recommend getting a flight of beer and sample all of them. The servers are always helpful on recommendations. read more

After three attempts in a span of 8 months, giving up on this place. But, nice to just pop in for a drink at the bar.

so we went here on a saturday night and was put on a waitlist for a table for 5. not a big deal because they were busy. we let the hostess know that we were going to be at the bar getting a round of beers before being seated and we let her know we'd close out the tab and start a new one with the server. with that being said, when we were seated, NO ONE came by. we were ready for our 2nd round and some food, but no one came by. we even tried to get their attention but no luck. 45mins go by and the bottoms of our glasses were dry. as we get up, our server announces himself. no thanks, we were heading to pauls. i wouldve given 1 star for shit service, but they have an excellent beer line up. i really wish i was able to try other beers and their food. oh well. read more

I'm a big fan of Crow Bar in CDM so I approached Haven with a little trepidation...could it compete with my beloved Crow Bar? And much to my surprise, Haven was really wonderful. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, polite and professional - we were placed in the unfortunate situation of overhearing two other patrons ripping him and the owner a new one - they remained polite and calm, even in the face of this couple complaining about how the restaurant "wasted their life." A+ for professionalism, Haven. A+ for the food too. The menu is definitely focused, but might as well cook a few dishes really well than stretch yourself too thin. We tried the burger and the pulled pork sliders and were totally pleased with both. I loved the combo of sweet BBQ sauce and the heat from the slaw and chipotle aioli on the sliders. Great combination of tastes. Haven's choice of cheese on the burger was awesome. Loved the tangy earthy blue on the beef. The fries were the biggest hit for both me and the BF, we could not keep our hands off of them. Perfect texture - not too crispy or too soggy, and most importantly for me lots of salt and herbs on the fries. YUM! Wish I had read Shelly's review before trying Haven, my one dislike was the "ketchup" it tasted like a puree of tomatoes and bell peppers - very sweet and pasta sauce-esque. Garlic aioli would have been heaven on those fries. read more

WTH happened to their Pork Sliders/Burger or whatever they keep changing it to? Now its just pork between two THIN slices of bread that falls apart and breaks down (kinda like me when watching Bruce Willis sacrifice himself and go down the elevator in Armageddon). At least their margherita pizza is still good as well as their lamb burger and fries. If it wasn't for the good selections of beer on tap (kinda overpriced though), I'd probably opt not to eat here anymore based on the consistently long wait times. read more

This place has an amazing craft beer selection and great food. However, tonight the service was so horrible I will never come back. I went to the bar and ordered a beer. Nobody gave me a menu or asked me if I wanted something to eat. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity. I decided to get on Open Table and book a reservation. I closed my bar tab and walked up to the podium. Wow! They actually handed me a menu. The salmon was delicious. But, I can no longer endorse this restaurant, because of the horrible service. read more

I think you need to rate a restaurant based on what it is trying to be. In-n-Out is a burger joint - and should be rated as such. Does a 4 or a 5 mean it's as good as a Michelin star restaurant? Absolutely not. It means you think they make a solid burger. Haven is a downtown Orange establishment that, to me, is accomplishing what it has set out to do. Serve quality beer and above average food for a very reasonable price. Don't get me wrong - you can run up a tab at Haven if you're partaking in the spirits. But if you head in intent on getting an above average meal for a fair price you can walk out spending no more that $25. I've been a few times and haven't been disappointed yet. From the Miso Fritto (a play on fish & chips with vegetables) to the French Onion soup to a simple order of chips the apps set the tone to what will be a fulfilling meal. Remember what I've said - these items will not make you think you are at the French Laundry - but they wont let you down either. Venturing to the main courses I've tried the Prawns (love the cheddar grits), Burger (great flavor - get it as is, don't ruin it my messing with the fixings) and the Corned Beef Sliders (tender and tasty). The staff at Haven is friendly and wiling to direct you to their favorite beverage or dish. Best I can tell the ownership is a three headed tandem of individuals who are on the premise regularly. Hope it stays this way. Overall Haven is a welcome addition to a rather ordinary (but improving) food scene in Orange. Hell - Haven can hold its own anywhere - just as long as you understand what it is about. read more

Been here twice. Beer good, wood good, place nice and new. Food sucks, period. To expand on these sucks: Frito dish =s fried lemons. Asked manager why there were lemons deep fried on my plate. He said some people love them some people hate them......How bout filling the plate with items everyone or at least most people love. Never though fried lemons and lemon skins were cool, don't care about the lemon heads in Europe. Fried lemons suck. Second, the seafood stew. Would have been great if they provided an I.V. so i could balance my sodium content, and the bread they searved with it was not as hard as concrete, but for sure harder than pavement. Im sure a horse would enjoy this stew. read more

After everything I heard about this place I thought the angels would be weeping tears of gold over the front door. I thought the heavens would open up and sing while I ate. I thought they would at least have some interesting beer. But none of those things happened. The beers are very overpriced. Even for craft/micro- brews. I had already had most of what they offered and wasn't in the mood for a beer so I ordered a glass of wine. The statement, "I'll have the viogner" was followed by a quizzical look from the waiter. "That's a white wine." oooooooooooookay... Personally, I found that some portion of almost every meal had some deterrent factor. I found myself looking at the dishes... YUM shrimp, EW cheese grits -- it's not that grits taste bad, it's a texture thing. YUM steak, EW pureed carrots in the mashed potatoes -- it's not that it doesn't sound good. I just don't feel like that. So I start thinking, maybe I can ask for "x" side with "x" protein because it went on like that down the menu until I got to the bottom where it said something along the lines of, "We politely decline all requests for substitution." Really??? You, Mr Chef, are so confident in your ability that you think that foods a person would normally find repellent would be transcendent under your practiced hand? So I settled on chicken with fingerling potatoes and I am sad to report that it was a pretty boring dish. Not bad, just not amazing. I wanted salt and I had to ask for it. And it seemed to me like there was a little bit of a "I can't believe you want to season your own dish!" attitude coming from the waiter. But I am willing to consider that my perception my have been colored by the statement on the menu. :) Unless someone else has an uncontrollable urge to eat here I don't think I'll be coming back any time soon. I'll probably head to Beachwood next time I want good food and a beer. read more

Great selection of beer and even good options for cider and non-alcoholic beer. Not to mention, they have different water options as well, carbonated or non... and both tasty! The food is delicious and on the fancy-gourmet side. Mac N Cheese plate and the Vegetable Melange plate are both super mouthwatering. The desserts are scrumptious & the fries are enjoyable too. Prices are a tad high, but the quality makes up for it. You get what you pay for. You have the option of sitting inside or outside, both are comfy! It get's super packed, but it's worth the wait. I'd actually give it 3.5 stars if possible, dang it Yelp Anyways, I brought a large group of friends here to celebrate my birthday over labor Day weekend. The hostesses were very accommodating, we have 12-15 people and while they didn't have an individual table for all of us, they were able to put us all at three tables nearby. The highlights were definitely the beer selection and truffle fries. I decided on a 3 rather than a 4 because the burgers weren't up to my expectations. The lamb burger was probably better than the regular burger, but a bit too dry for me still. The regular burger was very different from most anything I've had, which is why I think it gets so much publicity. That being said, different isnt always better and the meat almost tasted gamy to me and my friends, something none of us really preferred. All in all a pleasant dining experience, hope to come back and try the full menu another night. read more
