In general HT is pretty solid, but this location (SW Beav-Hills) has more recently and increasingly become 'hit or miss'. My recommendations are: 1) don't go through the drive-thru if you want prioritized service--and maybe that's their business practice to accommodate walk-ins before the drive-thu, that's fair to honor the patrons that walk their butts inside over the lazy bums that don't. But when you watch your order sit on the counter for 10 minutes while the cashier expedites three different families orders inside over your one small entree is perplexing. 2) don't visit after 7:30-ish as to avoid very rationalized portion sizes. Tonight's the first time I ordered a small portion, so I wasn't expecting much but I didn't expect it to be literally four tiny dried up pieces of chicken with lots of crunchy rice. Like I said, I wouldn't say this is status quo but recently timing has been everything to do with quality and service. read more

I GOT SICK EATING HERE. This used to be a good place to grab some tasty Hawaiian Food, but in the past few months it has gone downhill FAST. Now I will never be returning. Came with some work colleagues to have a group lunch, and I had the Huli Huli Chicken, their signature (and my favorite) dish. The meal was served with COLD rice and LUKE-WARM chicken. I should have known something was up then, but like a fool, I dug in - trusting my past experiences would keep me safe. Little did I know that less than four hours later I would be posted up on the commode with awful diarrhea the likes of which I have not had in years. Lasted for a full day or more, felt terrible the entire time. It just seems like the place is run down, dirty, everything including the tables and chairs and counter-tops is dingy and sticky, and I cannot trust the safety of the food any more. I've been at this location many times and for the most part the food and service was great. This time however, I had ordered grilled veggies with beef only, no rice, no mac salad. What I received was 1 Cup total of veggies and beef on top of rice with a side of rice and mac salad. I went to the cashier and told her that this was not what I ordered and she looked confused. The same cashier that took my order would not change my order. She advised me that it came with rice and mac salad and when I mentioned that she did not tell me this when I ordered and, had she mentioned this, I would have not ordered or ordered the salad instead. Very dissatisfied with the service. The person that took my order did not communicate with the kitchen until I finally checked in after waaiting and seeing other people get theirs. Did not appreciate being told they are z"short staffed" instead of an apology and action. Very quick service, I got my food in 5 minutes after I pay. The place looks clean. However I pay $3 extra to substitute the rice and Mac salad which was supposed to be 3/5 of a regular dish , they only give me less than half of the whole thing and the pull pork looks disappointed. Let's be honest, the place looks like a bit of a dump from the outside and that's precisely why I'd never bothered to try it despite the fact that I drive past it multiple times a day - and have done so as long as it's been there. If it weren't for a gift card I won at a Christmas party, I still wouldn't know anything about this place but now that I do, I kind of like it. I've only ordered one thing, the #4 Kalua Pig, and it's always been good. Pork, rice, and macaroni salad, it's a nice change from the typical fast food options in the area. The regular size is enough for 3 meals and it reheats really well in the microwave. For the price, you can't beat it. I've always gotten my order to go, but inside, the place seems clean and the help I've encountered always seems nice. I've been there during lunch and dinner times, neither of which ever seem "busy", but it does appear that the place does do a steady business despite what the always-empty parking lot suggests. A note to management: Fer cyin' out loud, spend a couple hours outside and spiff the place up! Pull some weeds, replace the dead stuff in the planters with some pretty flowers, paint the wall around the vacant patio, and run a flag up the flag pole! Make the place look inviting to the crowds that will soon be showing up at your new next door neighbor's place. This was decent lunch food. I got the small (dakine) huli huli chicken which came with one scoop of rice, and one scoop of macaroni salad. I liked the mac salad a lot. Chicken was cooked well, but I thought the seasoning could've kicked it up a notch so I added sriracha. My husband got the Kekoa special (marinated teriyaki beef) and it was a little saucy. The price was okay-- and seems like a decent place for lunch and dinner. The mac salad tastes like black peppers and mayonnaise --which surprisingly tasted pretty good. Not the traditional hawaiian mac salad with a bit of acid, and celery and carrots. I'd stop here again and maybe try the korean style beef instead. Food came out quickly and hot. Soda is $2 with free refills-- and they have SQUIRT! Hawaiian sun fruit juices are also $2 a can. read more

Unfortunately a terrible experience. I've been a customer for some time but after my last experience, that won't happen again. It took 20 minutes parked in the drive through before I got to the window. I paid and was told it would be just a minute. Another 10+ minutes go by. I eventually knock on the window and let the know I need to leave and to cancel my order. The young lady asked me to remind her what my order was so she can cancel it. I did and left. Guess what charge is still on my card despite not getting food. I called the next day and was told I'd get a call the next morning when the owner was in. That didn't happen. I called again and the owner was "doing something" and would call me back later. I'm sure. As an aside, while I'm waiting at the window I watched an employee take his used cup and fill it with soda from the machine. The same machine used for customers. He then took his mask off in the cooking area and started drinking. I'm frankly glad I didn't get my food if this is the way the staff behaves during a pandemic...however, it would have been nice not to have $14 stolen from me. read more

Okay, we've been to Hawaiian Time a bunch and will probably go back cause it's yummy. My husband and I like the food a lot, especially the mac salad (and teriyaki teriyaki teriyaki!. It's not Zippy's but let's face it- nothing is Zippy's on the mainland ;) The problem here is the service. And the prices. And the ambiance. And the owner (I think that's who he is). Mostly the owner. One table seated in the whole place and it's the owner, eating. No problem. Except he didn't say anything when we walked in. Or when we got to the counter. And when he finally walked up to the counter, he just asked what he could get for us. When it took a minute, he asked if we'd been there before. Not in "that happy to see you sweet! I may have new customers" manner, but in that "do you need me to explain the menu to you you're taking to long manner. I happen to think that $35 is steep for 3 people at a counter service joint, but hey, I like the food. My stomach's happiness is a higher priority than my customer service principles, I guess.. Okay, then while we're eating, he starts cleaning and banging stuff around right by our table. Why?? The place is huge- doesn't anything else need cleaning? Why don't you go eat some more? Super weird. Last beef (haha) is the ambiance. The interior looks great- pleasing color scheme, nifty vintage Hawaii and surf posters- but it is ALWAYS freezing and the music sucks. Why, in the name of all things aloha would you not play all Hawaiian music at Hawaiian Time? Instead it's like K103 or The Buzz or something equally uninteresting. Blech. Okay, super rambly I know. I grew up eating Hawaiian food in Hawaii for 20+ years. I don't think what my wife and I had was any bit authentic like their sign says. We had the chopped steak and big island chicken. I gotta say we barely ate half and threw the plates away. They rely on a variety of sauces to mask the plainness of the food. I didn't like the mac salad either. Rice was eh. Just remember that I can only review these two plates and it will be the only two plates I ever eat from here. A side note: The one thing that really bothered me was the night we went in there, I had to use the bathroom. While I was in the stall a worker used the urinal, never flushed and never washed his hands before leaving. This really disturbed me, especially when I saw the same guy greeting people, shaking their hands and bagging up to go orders. On a positive note. I mean, how can you have a Hawaiian style Chopped Steak plate but not have Loco-Moco? Oooooh it's cause your Chopped Steak is the same meat as your teri beef, but in a different teriyaki type sauce? The mac salad is made with real mayo, which I prefer to the fake miracle whip gross-ness, and the pork is made with a sweet terikayi sauce that is yummy. I don't know what it is but I'm an addict of their Huil Huli chicken! I eat here at least once a week! When you open the box you look inside and think it's going to be nothing special, just rice/chicken/mac salad but once you put some teriyaki sauce on it you can't stop eating it. SO YUMMY! The mac is as said by others very creamy. It's got a great garlic kick but it's not overwhelming and it's PERFECTLY cooked never too gooey or to dry. Not remotely authentic, even for my non-Hawaiian palate. Very limited choices, and some of the most common plate-lunch options (loco moco, chicken katsu, lau lau) are missing from the menu. Sides options are similarly lacking. Your choices are rice & mac salad OR veggies. In other words, carbs or no carbs. I had the kalua pig plate with veggies, and I liked that the portions of both veggies @ meat were generous, but there was hardly any flavor on either. The pork was tender, but watery, and lacked that rich savory flavor you usually get with kalua pork. You could easily make better at home in a crockpot. They clearly did *not* use the traditional technique to make it. For my purposes when I stopped here for lunch, it sufficed, since I just wanted a basic meat&veggies, low carb lunch. I came to this place after work one day expecting an authentic plate lunch with the flavors of the islands. At the door I was greeted by a trail of ants walking their way up to the soda machine, dirty and dingy and sticky looking tables and an absolutely disgusting floor. I chose the Huli Huli chicken in the largest size and a soda. Upon filling my soda from the ant infested soda machine, my name was called and my food was ready. "Wow that was fast!", I thought. I took a seat at one of the cleaner looking table and opened my to go box. Upon first examination I could tell you that the $8.50 price that I paid for was mostly for that to go box and 3 pounds of rice. The chicken was burnt but also slimy?the Mac salad was mostly just a bucket of mayo. OK I thought I'll give this a try. Weilding my chopsticks I dug into the first bite of the chicken. My first bite was unimpressive how do you take the flavor out of chicken it's so simple. Uninspired. You could tell the chicken had been sitting in sauce in a bucket somewhere for the past three or four days. The rice was crunchy and soupy at the bottom the Mac was OK but I'm a bigger guy so I really just like mayo anyway. I finished my Hawaiian time meal and as I walked out the doors not a single thank you for coming in was heard. Might I add during my visit there the owner or manager was very unfriendly and clearly not in the people pleasing business I think his name was Andy. Little did I know that visit to Hawaiian Time would cost me six hours of shit pouring out of my ass into the toilet one of the worst experience I've ever had as far as food poisoning goes in my life shut this location down. It was like I was giving birth to an inside out version of myself I'm talking blood. Never have I ever experienced such violent foodborne illness I should be dead. Skip this place. We LOVE Hawaiian time! Our favorite is the Huli Huli Chicken and the khalua pork. The Mac salad is delicious and the rice with some teriyaki sauce or spicy sriracha complements the meat so well. It takes a while to get your food because it is made to order. The portions are BIG! We like to substitute one scoop of rice for one of Mac salad to get an extra treat. It's sad that this restaurant has such average reviews when the meat is seasoned so well! read more

This was my 2nd visit to a Hawaiian Time restaurant; the first being a trip to the store in Oregon City over the weekend (separate review). This store is formerly a Burger King, but it's not obvious. They've remodeled everything from top to bottom, and it's pleasant. There is plenty of room in the dining area. There was even a group of 16-20 eating while we were there, along with many others. Today I tried another mixed plate - this time I had Huli Huli chicken along with their Teriyaki beef. The chicken was... fine. Chunks of grilled chicken marinated in a rather plain sweet teriyaki sauce. The beef was outstanding! Perfectly grilled and complemented nicely by the sauce. The rice is still crap, the mac salad is very good. I did notice a few traditional Hawaiian dishes are missing, notably: sho-yu chicken, katsu chicken and a loco moco dish. It's not a deal breaker, per se, but enough to raise a few eyebrows if you're looking for something with extreme authenticity. read more

Menu is a bit short on options compared to other Hawaiian food in town. Their BBQ a is actual Texas BBQ sauce not a Korean style BBQ sauce, which is a big negative by itself. Food is solid otherwise but not great. Flavors tend to be weak and need a liberal dose of sauce to get anywhere. But this seems to depend on which cook is working that day. When I first started coming here a year ago it seemed more consistent though. On the other hand, the quality of food is about consistent with the majority of such places in the Islands. The pork is awesome!!. The spicy chicken was good, lots of flavor. I always go there saying I am gonna get the small this time. Then I order the regular size. The only reason I never get the large is that I am full after eating the regular. The regular has 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad along with the meat. The large comes with 2 scoops of rice, 2 scoops of macaroni salad and the meat. I admit the one in Eugene is better then the one in Beaverton but the wife and I will continue to go back. read more

Great local "fast-food" that doesn't taste like it! Not sure how authentically Hawaiian the food is, but basically they offer teriyaki-style plate lunches or sandwiches with rice and macaroni salad. The meat (or veggies) can be customized according to how you like it prepared, and/or what type of meat you prefer. My go-to meal is the Regular size Kalua Pork and Mauna Loa Chicken mixed plate lunch. Kalua is smoky pulled pork, and Mauna Loa is chicken in sweet/spicy sauce. Love their macaroni salad! Pleasant, clean fast-food style seating area (at their Beaverton location, anyway) and friendly service. Occasionally it gets busy and you may have to wait a couple minutes longer than usual for your goodies, but otherwise no complaints! read more

Holy cow. Could not pass this place up as I left an appointment at Kaiser right around lunch time. I was pleasantly surprised by it all. The fact that this location is a drive thru, first of all. However, I stepped inside to have a chance to look at the menu before ordering. Inside was clean and spacious. There isn't a menu board, there are laminated menus on the register counter so while you are in line, you can decide what you want. I ordered the pig plate to go. Includes two scoops of rice, pork, and a big scoop of Mac salad. The portions were generous, the pork was extremely tender (easily ate with just a flimsy plastic fork). They give you a cup of teriyaki and it's not the watered down teriyaki, it's homemade! The Mac salad is creamy and seasoned well. I also ordered a $1.50 soda which includes unlimited refills. The soda price is nice considering most places charge at least $1.99 now for sodas that may not include refills. All in all I will be back here, for sure. Is it totally authentic? No. But is it a yummy break from regular take out or fast food places? Definitely. It's too bad the only reason in ever in this area is to go to the doctor, otherwise I might plan to stop in more often. read more

This place is great for satisfying that craving for comfort Hawaiian food. Every employee I've ever interacted with was very nice. The food is tasty, I always get the mixed plate with huli huli chicken and beef. The Mac salad is also yummy. The large mixed plate is also huge btw, like 2-3 meals for me, so much food for a good price! Don't judge this place by looks, the building could use some TCL, but hey, it's COVID times and everyone is just trying make things work. Highly recommend trying this place. read more
