Ok first, the food. I always get the Huli Huli chicken, and it's fine. It's not the greatest hawaiian chicken I've ever had, but it's certainly not bad. Definitely above average, at the very least. Now the service is where I'm confused. There are so many yelpers here talking about how unfriendly or rude the workers are, and I've had the complete opposite experience. I've only come here about 3 or 4 times, and each time they've been very friendly, including: One time my sister and I came here to get some food for our family. It was about 30m before closing, and we ordered 5 plates, so we expected to wait a little longer than normal, and sure enough, we ended up waiting maybe 15-20 minutes. But the cashier was very apologetic and gave us free sodas for the wait. He definitely didn't need to do that, and it was much appreciated. Then just today I ordered my food, and a few minutes later, the cooks in the back said 'order up' and put my food on the counter in the back of the register. However, my cashier was on the phone taking someone's order, and so I figured I was just going to have to wait until she was done and then hopefully she'll notice my order. But instead, the cook in the back noticed that the cashier was on the phone and so he came out and gave the food to me himself. Now I don't know if this is normal, but I've been in plenty of places where the cooks put the food on the counter and that's the end of their job, as far as they're concerned, so I appreciated that. This is middle of the road for me. the food is ok but also nit particularly high priced. The interior has been decorated try and not look like a fast food restaurant but some surf pictures do not quite transport me to a tropical place. The staff was friendly and food came out pretty quick. If you need Hawaiian in a pinch this will do but if you want to be more discriminating I would consider somewhere else. This place is easy with the kids (large area, they have highchairs, smooth floors are easy to clean) but they don't have a separate kids menu so plan on having kids split of get left overs. read more

Food is bland, very skimpy on portions, it looks like they cut their food blindfolded. Presentation was horrible. They literally just threw and mixed my meats together :/ no love or soul was put into it. I paid $14 and felt it was severely over priced for the meal I got. I got a regular mixed plate with kalua pork and honululu beef with a side of grilled veggies. Too much if you ask me.... The place also looks like I'd find roaches or dirt everywhere. The building is tired looking, I think the owner hasn't visited this place in a while. For this bring the only Hawaiian drive thru in town--there's a huge opportunity to make real income here. I like the pork at this place. The macaroni salad is good and the rice is simple (in a nice way), but really, I just love that Kalua pork. This place has a drive-thru that for some reason I never remember to use. If you go in and you see no-one at the register, ring the bell! They will come promptly. The service is friendly and timely (if you ring the bell), and the pork is really good. So go get some pork. read more

Delicious chicken. Mac salad has a yummy seasoning, an original flavor. I really like that you can order a smaller size meal instead of other places where you have leftovers for days. Fast service. Good prices. Parking lot needs a repaint on the parking spaces. I'd come back here again. read more

I've gone here Multiple times and it's always about the same quality of food. The guy at the front is really welcoming and very helpful. Their mac salad has a bit too much mayo involved and maybe needs some more spice to it. The chicken is good (Hulu Hulu I believe it's called) and their ribs are also fairly good. Sometimes I feel the chicken is not necessarily cooked fresh just because of the speed you get your plate. I normally stick with water but you have some drink options. No alcohol. Overall, it's middle Of the road when it comes to Hawaiian food and it's good enough portions you're going to be full The rest of the day and end up unbuttoning your pants under your desk. read more

Ive driven past this place for years, but wasn't even really sure what it was, someone reccommended it to my boyfriend so stopped and tried it. I've had Hawaiian BBQ before and enjoyed it. This place was sooo good! I got the Mauna Lao Chicken and my boyfriend got the Huli-Huli Chicken Sandwich. I'm not a fan of the macaroni salad, but I'm not a fan of any macaroni salad, my boyfriend said it was really good and he's not a big fan normally. I got my Mauna Lao with the... third level of spiciness, it wasn't as hot as I expected, so the next time I got it as hot as they could make it, it was deadly hot, but oh so good. I tried the Kalua pork, it's good but not my favorite. I wish this place was closer, it's a decent price, better then McDonalds, and I always have left overs. read more

I ordered the pork and it was good. Better with BBQ sauce. Mac salad was good and rice. The thing that surprised me was it was lunch time. The place was pretty empty and considering that I was surprised how long it took to get our plate lunch. I would imagine all that to be pre made so not sure why we had to wait over 20 minutes while they were busy helping the drive thru. Decent for a quick meal. I remember them giving more chicken. I ordered the Mauna Loa Chicken, regular size. It was still a fairly good portion of rice, needs more chicken. I was able to use the drive thru, which was a nice change. I've never used a Hawaiian Time with a drive thru. Pretty cool. If you are looking for something quick and tasty, this is the place. Good Hawaiian food-- the portions are big and the food is good. Prices are around 10-14 dollars for the largest plate. Don't bother buying the smaller plates, at face value they are cheap, but expensive for the amount you get. My biggest complaint is about their mac. It is too creamy and has no acidity; it tastes pretty much just like mac, mayo, and pepper. Overall, for the few times I've been here, I've only had good experiences. I'm from Hawaii and trust me the food here is nothing like it is back home. Their menu is very small and everything is just variations from one another. The huli huli chicken is not huli huli chicken but rather marinated chicken breast; and to make matters worse it was boneless!!! Any person who has had huli huli chicken before or even cooked chicken before knows that the only way to prepare tender chicken is to leave the bone in. All I can say is how awful I feel for the clearly understaffed, underpaid, overwhelmed, and overworked employees. 7/10 my order is incorrect because the poor cashier has 6 people in her drive-thru line (no doubt talking to her in her headset), 5 people behind me in line, and the phone is ringing! Clearly too much for one person to handle. If they hired another cashier to man the drive-thru, I feel like they would then be able to listen more carefully to their customers and focus more on on providing an experience rather than just getting another customer out of the way! And whenever the "owner?" comes in he takes over and clearly overwhelmes the employees making it harder for them to do their job correctly, by standing there WATCHING THEM. This place is great for getting good food fast. This has now become my go-to when I am hungry for Hawaiian food. I usually get their Honolulu Beef plate and have never been dissatisfied! The beef is marinated to be flavorful and it is always tender. Another thing that keeps me coming back is they have never once burnt my food; I used to go to L&L, until they kept burning my BBQ beef and ribs. The mac salad is creamy, peppery and I love it! I know a lot of people have complained about it not being super "Traditional" Hawaiian food... but if you are like my husband and I and just like meat, rice and mac salad you will be a happy camper here! read more

After coming to this restaurant for about 6 months, at least once a week, I've decided it is well overdue for a review. The teriyaki chicken is excellent, good flavor, fresh tasting, and well seasoned without giving up the taste of the chicken itself. The regular size is a solid portion for the price with two scoops of rice and a scoop of Hawaiian mac. Not impressed. Have been to this location several times and have always been disappointed. They put a mound of rice under your chicken portion to make it look much more generous than it actually is. Chicken is always dry and can tell it's been sitting in sauce for days!! Much better places near by I can spend $8 with higher quality food that tastes way better and better portions. Every time I go there, something goes not so smoothly. Chicken is burned, order is incorrect. Today, asked for 2 extra sauces. Was told there are 2 sauces in the box. Get back to the office, zero. You know the one word new customers don't like to hear..."No". Unfortunately, it was all "No's" at Hawaiian Time. I was tasked with picking up lunch for the office (5 people) for an impromptu party. I had never tried this place and despite the not-so-hot Yelp reviews, I thought I would give it a shot. My first impression when walking in at the peak of the lunch hour was "wow, no one is here." As I approached the counter, there was no greeting the customers and all I was asked was "what do you want?". I asked a few questions about different items and was answered with curt responses. I was all set to order 5-6 different lunch plates and asked for the rice and mac salad for all the lunches be placed in separate containers to accommodate a more "family style" lunch. I was told "No" unless I wanted to order 5 lbs (!!!) of rice and mac salad separately. What?!? All I wanted was the 5 scoops of rice and 5 scoops of mac salad normally included in the lunch to be in separate containers. I even offered to pay for the containers but again told "No." Well, I decided to vote with my money and cancelled my order. I made the drive to Bamboo Grove off Macadam and they were more than happy to accommodate my relatively simple request (highly recommend!). So, I didn't get to try the food, but by all accounts, I didn't miss out. Skip this place. read more

Good food if you're willing to deal with slow, below mediocre customer service. Called and got put on hold and then hung up on. Called back and placed my order. Arrived 10 minutes later and sat at the register for 5 minutes watching an older gentleman in a blue shirt doing absolutely nothing as I tried to make eye contact with him. The poor gal running the front was left to handle a busy drive thru with customers in the lobby while this guy stood in the kitchen scratching his head - not cool. 3 stars in this case just feels perfect. I love that this is drive through. I can't consider this real Hawaiian food--- it's still a bento shop, pure and simple. But they're very generous w/their serving sizes, and most people could eke out at least 2 meals w/ their large platters. True, the marinade is so rich and heavy, I had trouble, at times, distinguishing the chicken from the beef on my combo platter. Authentic Hawaii plate lunch was what we were seeking. We did not find it here. And of plate lunch we should know; we only moved from Honolulu a few months ago. The whole reason you order kalua pork is for the lovely, fall apart, juicy meat heaped over steamed rice (two scoops, please). The one here was bone dry. My chicken dish was alright tasting, but really nothing special, nor anything authentic to Hawaii. The mac salad, however, was the worst part. I know that pasta is supposed to be al dente, but mac salad is not pasta. The elbow macaroni should be sooo tender, and suck up all the mayo deliciousness, I really couldn't figure out what I was forking into my mouth with this one. This review is not a reflection of the food, rather the service. My wife met me there for lunch today and we ordered two #1's. Hadn't been here in at least a year and don't eat Hawaiian food often so forgot to order without the mac salad as I have allergies. When the food came and I realized my mistake, I apologized and the girl at the front offered to redo mine. I thought that was going the extra mile, and definitely great service until the cook decided to speak loud enough for me to hear that he was unhappy he had to remake my food. Maybe it was because it was Sunday at 230pm and no one else was there. The quality of the food was irrelevant at that point, Mr. Top Chef felt he should not have to remake a plate if it wasn't his fault and made sure I heard.
