We went here after seeing it posted on Facebook NOVA foodies group! It was for their soft opening so the menu was very limited and small. The staff is super super friendly and sweet. When you walk in, they have a super cute greenery wall with a sign. The inside looks like your typical standard deli (if they were to remodel and vamp it up a little bit, I think it'll fit in line with the Hawaiian inspired theme they are aiming for). We ordered the loco moco (double patty), fries, and masubi. The masubi was superrrrr good! I liked the seasoning on it. It came with a piece of spam and a piece of egg with some sweet soy dressing and drizzle of some other dressings. Super delectable. As for the loco moco, the patty was extremely tender and the rice was cooked soft (I prefer soft rice). The gravy was a typical loco moco gravy with mushrooms, and I ended up eating the whole thing. It had a small side salad and macaroni salad, with a piece of pepper and grilled pineapple. Highly recommend for something that'll fill you up. The fries unfortunately were soggy, but it was for my son who just started learning to eat solids, so that wasn't an issue. They also gave us free complementary drinks for the long wait, but I didn't think the wait was long at all. My cousin wanted to eat at a Hawaiian place for his birthday and this is one of the few places around that had everything he wanted! Pretty surprised to find it just off Liberia in Manassas. The place was on the smaller side, seats around 14-16 people. Their menu isn't super big but it has all the stuff you could want if you're looking for Hawaiian food. The 9 of us ordered most of the menu but me and my girlfriend got the Loco Moco platter and the Bulgogi Loco bowl with two of the special lemonades (mixed berry I believe) and two spam musubi. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is but the food did not disappoint. You can't really mess up loco moco but they really killed it with all our food. The egg was nice and runny, gravy and beef were hearty and the rice was perfect. Musubi serving was big (we got two though) and also made perfectly. The lemonade wasn't too tart either which was a plus. The staff here was super nice and accommodating to us and even got lollipops for the kids and took a family picture for us. I don't often crave Hawaiian or Asian fusion, but this place is the first spot that kept me wanting more. Even after visiting Hawaii and trying their spam musubi's there, I like the ones here much better. I ordered a regular spam musubi and the chicken teriyaki bowl. The chicken came out so tender and the teriyaki sauce was so savory, perfectly complimented with the classic sides of mac salad and sliced cabbage slaw. Of note, it took a long time to get my food. Only one person in line before me but took my order almost 25 minutes. Not sure what the delay was, but honestly, once I tasted the food, it didn't matter. I haven't had the taste of "home" in over a decade but sitting here with the Loco Moco and Chicken Katsu took me back to the L&L and Rainbow Drive In days. I personally have been waiting for more of a food variety in this area so I was very excited to try it out once I heard about it's opening. I ordered spam musubi, popcorn chicken, and chicken loco. I tried the orange sauce and red sauce. My favorite was the spam musubi- that was very good and very filling. 1 spam musubi is cut in half to give you two 'rolls'. It's topped with orange sauce and that combo was my favorite! Super delicious! I didn't enjoy the red sauce too much, I like spicy so that's why I got it but it just didn't seem to fit the meal flavor palette too well, in my opinion. The popcorn chicken and chicken loco have the same fried chicken in it which i'm not sure why I expected different but they are the same size and taste from what I experienced. They both taste great and serve large in portions! My overall rating is a 4/5 with great food and a great experience (they made my food quick!). Ever since coming back from Hawaii, I've been craving loco moco. I had it almost every day there, and I can't believe it's not a widely sold item here. So, I've made it at home a few times. When I heard there's a place near my house that sells them, I went to try it out right away. HawaU offers the classic loco moco on the menu as well as more fusion flavors like using bulgolgi and katsu as the protein. The block of stores felt like industrial or warehouses but inside the store was comfortable window seating at stools, self service tables, fun music, bright and clean. They even gave us a free sauce on the house since we were deciding between a couple, and they gave great recommendations. We also enjoyed the special drink of the day (Blueberry Lemonade). They use fresh fruits! It was perfectly tart and sweetened. I got a Loco Moco bowl and 2 musubis to share with my partner. Everything was so delicious and filling. The bowls come with a refreshing and light mac salad and cabbage salad! We didn't finish it all, but musubi was an excellent late night leftover snack. We got the hot pepper green sauce (recommended) and then the red sauce on the house :-) Both were so good with our musubi... and housemade!!! From the outside it looks like a regular shop in a plain shopping center. I came here for the first time to try out the food and everything was amazing! We had the berry lemonade which was extremely refreshing. It had the perfect balance of sweet and sour with real blueberries in it! My friend and I got the tonkatsu and chicken dish and both were cooked perfectly. The cashier was super nice and informative describing everything. He let us have all four sauces to taste! The spam musubi is amazing, but so filling. I can see having an order of musubi and the lemonade for a special lunch. Doesn't look like much as you drive up or drive passed it. BUT you need to make a hard right or drift a U-Turn to try this place!!!!! It is a Korean x Hawaiian Fusion and the flavors and preparation are impeccable. I just came back from Hawaii. Being an Elite yelper, there was no doubt I scouted the most highly rated places on the Island including local favorites! I had my fair share of Musibi in Hawaii from 7 Eleven to specialized shops around the Island I believe Musibi to be a dish where every piece of the dish matters. If one part of Musibi is bad it can easily go down hill. The Musibi I had here was some of the best I've had even in comparison to Hawaii local favorites. Rice: Executed perfectly to sticky but some how almost Al dente rice with a lovely texture. Seaweed was just right. Not too dry or too moist. The spam (the part I was worried about) tasted like it just came off of the grill still warm, salty, and juicy. The egg: fluffy!!!! MOIST!!!! BOUNCY!!!!! (You see where this is going) Seasonings: aside from Furikake which gives it the extra umami and addition textures. There was a sauce on the Musubi that just mixed so well with the rest if Musibi pieces. The sauce balanced the saltiness. Filled the gap where the rice can get boring at times. Then the seaweed pulls you back reminding you of the fresh ocean flavors. This little oomph of flavor boost really sets many of the Musibi apart but it's also the preparation of all the parts of it. The Loco Moco...such a simple comforting dish. They execute with the same level of care for every part of the dish. The grilled pineapple gives you relief and contrast from The gravy which has great umami. The beef is juicy and SEASONED. The pickled jalapeños and cherry tomato was a nice touch. I appreciated the lightness of the macaroni! The rice was again cooked to perfection. This is place that should all over the DMV. There are not many Hawaiian places in my opinion that can give you that repeated experience you wan to keep coming back for. I highly recommend trying this place! I was running an errand with a friend in Manassas, VA and we decided to stop by HawaU for lunch! We had been hearing about it and seeing friends post on the 'gram about it so we were excited to try it for ourselves! We were pretty hungry so we ordered a decent portion of the menu - and here is what I think about them below: Loco Moco Platter - Beef & Pork Patty with Gravy - The meat was extremely soft and melted in my mouth, and the gravy has great flavor and perfect consistency! Ordered this on recommendation of the friendly staff. It was served with an egg on top, as well as a ring of pineapple. It also came with rice, Mac Salad, and Cabbage salad. Chicken Loco Platter - Fried Chicken with Choice of Sauce - This was my favorite dish of the day! The fried chicken was crispy and crunchy. We chose brown sauce (teriyaki base) for the sauce choice, which I liked. It was also served with the same rice, Mac Salad, and Cabbage Salad - all of which taste great, and complement the dish nicely. Spam Musubi - I was pleasantly surprised by the Spam Musubi as the portion size was better than expected. We ordered 2 for $7 in the picture included. As you can see, ordering 1 comes with 4 multi-bite-sized pieces of spam musubi, which has sauces and seasonings sprinkled on top - with a slice of egg and spam in the middle, along with rice and seaweed wrapping. EDIT: Apparently we ordered 4 for $14! Popcorn Chicken & Fries - Comes with pieces of popcorn chicken mixed with Fries. The popcorn chicken goes well with the house sauces and it is crunchy. Special Drink of the Day - Blueberry Lemonade - The drink of the day on the day we went happened to be blueberry lemonade. It was sweet, cold, and refreshing but ran out quite quickly between the two of us. Overall, I enjoyed eating here, visiting, and experiencing the food. The staff at the front was friendly. We splurged out and bought a bunch of the menu so we definitely had to take home leftovers to finish it. New restaurant alert!!! (Long review) So today (4/27/2022) I had to head back to Charlotte, NC to finish cleaning my old house. Since I woke up late, I decided to go eat somewhere but didn't know where. Didn't want any fast food and I wanted to support small local business. I was driving by Manassas area and looked up where to eat. A restaurant called HawaU popped up so I decided to try them out. I walked inside and everyone was super nice. The cashier told me they had just opened up on Monday (4/25/2022) and are still doing a soft opening. They serve Hawaiian food with a fusion twist! Since they're in their soft opening phase, they didn't have much on the menu. But still enough to get full!! I ordered the Loco Moco which is what they're known for and also the chicken bites! Both dishes were amazing!! I wanted to try other plates but didn't want to get food coma since I had to drive 7 hours lol. I'm pretty sure the place that used to be here was a korean deli but now they are a fusion korean x hawaiian joint which is awesome. I came to try the chicken loco and it was amazing! It's sorta like popcorn chicken covered in delicious sauce over a bed of rice with some salad on the side. You choose what sauce you want. I tried the sriracha mayo but it wasn't that spicy. Gonna have to try the red sauce (spicy -- I suspect it's gochujang) next time! Also tried the spam musubi. One order gets you 2 of these things and they are super tasty. I could see myself getting something else for lunch and still popping by here just to get a quick order of the musubi to complement my meal.
