Probably ppl who satisfied not posting their experiences :) Ppl complaining about overpriced, all key west and dock key overpriced so its not a surprise. Not inclusive hotel, you need to pay for each meal, for each drink . Hotel is very low key, jeans, t-shirts, no heel, even in a night , families and kids. Dear Hawks Cay, What an amazing birthday getaway for my love's 33rd!!! We were looking for a quiet, romantic escape and that's exactly what we found. I had made reservations online just a couple weeks before we went, and was glad to have found a great deal and a room at such short notice. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, a bit later than we had intended, but were quickly taken care of and in our room before we could blink. I love great service! The weather teetered between sunny and partly cloudy, but it made no difference to us, as we laid poolside regardless, enjoying our delicious piña coladas! Your resort is stunning and the room was beautiful, although "Island View" was really the view of the valet parking area... But with the windows closed, we never really thought twice about it. The room was quite plush, with a king-sized bed, nice-sized plasma TV, plenty of closet and dresser space, and a small, but nice bathroom, and a desk for "working". The toiletries were all made by Tommy Bahama, which was a nice touch, and the shower/tub had good water pressure. Throughout the resort, you have a no-cash policy, so everything is charged to the room, which accounts for the $200/day incidental fee. Additionally, there are a couple of different restaurants which includes an automatic 18% gratuity charged to all bills. The staff definitely deserves it and their level of service far exceeds the 18%, so we often left a bit more. Speaking of the restaurants, they were definitely great, albeit a bit pricey. But it's vacation and a resort, so the prices were to be expected. Additionally, I will reserve my reviews of them for their actual page. I will say, the piña coladas were some of the best I've had, and better yet with the Meyers Dark Rum (with floater, of course!)!! DELISH!! I think I drank those ALL weekend... No really, I did. And the "Terrace" restaurant, which is where brunch was served, had a great variety of breakfast items and it was all very tasty. The service was phenomenal wherever we went (minus an incident at Alma, with a specific waiter), and I have to say it was definitely a pleasure to stay here. It made the weekend feel like a week-long vacation, and I definitely did NOT want to head home. You have plenty to do for all ages, from adventure trips, to swimming with dolphins (which are located AT the resort - very expensive), to sunset boat rides, and of course the pirate-themed kids area, there is fun for the whole family! We enjoyed walking the grounds (quite extensive) and taking pictures of the beautiful landscaping and sunsets. There's a marina and harbor as well, with an ice cream shop, which made for great people-watching and picture-taking. Overall an excellent experience, no matter what the reason for the vacation. I read multiple bad reviews for this place before our trip and had very low hopes. Everyone who had something bad to say about Hawks Cay mainly complained about the staff being lazy and people were upset that 18% gratuity was added onto everything. From the first minute we arrived I had no idea what those previous reviews were referring to. From minute 1 til the minute we left the staff bent over backwards to try and help where need be. There was one staff member that stood out among the rest, which is hard to do, Donnie from Ohio. He came up to me to see if there was anything I needed. We ending up talking for a good 10 minutes about "The Big Ten" and life. The next day he asked me if we were planning on going to marathon. He then went to get a map and circled the "Must Eat At" restaurants in the area, and boy was he right!! With the staff so nice and the hotel so clean I figured this place was amazing, and then I ate the food.. The Beach Grill which serves food poolside is just awful. Every piece of food we ordered was plain and flavorless and some was even uneatable. The Ocean Grille, which has a breakfast buffet that is slightly below average, alunch that is over priced and average in quality and the dinner is the same menu as lunch unless you want the buffet which is on-par with old country buffet. (not a compliment) The only highlight food wise was Alma, the food there is terrific. It is very expensive but worth every penny. The drinks at both bars are fantastic, they serve the best Pina Colada's I've ever had. But the food cannot allow me to give this place more than 2 stars. Side note, the hotel provided our convention group a free continental breakfast everyday but to be honest, they couldn't pay me to eat it. Three and a half stars is way too generous for this place. We stayed here for a weekend and when I first arrived, I was quite impressed with the look of the place. Well-manicured lawns, clean parking lots, a pristine lobby. All very well done. I arrived early and I didn't expect to be allowed to check in, but they were fine with that. By the end of the first day I found that the air conditioning didn't work in the bedroom I was staying in (in one of the villas), the toilet paper holder was missing the piece that goes through the tube, the phone did not work (and since the place is so remote, I didn't have cell service so the only way of contacting the front desk was to leave the villa and walk up to the main building), and the hotel staff do not know what they are doing. At 9:55 p.m. I finally had time to eat. The restaurant was no longer serving but they sent me to the tiki bar, which serves until 11:00. By the time I found someone at the restaurant to tell me they were no longer serving, it was now after 10:00. I went to the tiki bar, where I was told that they stop serving at 10:00 and I would have to call room service. I can't call room service because the phone in the room doesn't work, so I went to the front desk. They called room service and I placed an order. I was told it would be 30 to 45 minutes for it to arrive. It was nearing midnight when the food finally arrived. The next day I had breakfast in their restaurant. This is a very small island and outside of the resort, there really isn't any other place to eat. The breakfast is a buffet, which is great if you're a meat eater. I had scrambled eggs, two small pancakes, some fruit and a cup of tea. For that small amount of food, I was charged $22. I never ate at the resort again. When I returned to the villa in the afternoon, there were fresh towels on the sofa in the living room and the garbage in the kitchen had been emptied. This is all you get in the way of room cleaning. The beds were not made, the trash in the bathrooms was not emptied and the place was not vacuumed. If you're accustomed to hotel service, you don't get that here if you stay in the villas. All-in-all, I can't recommend this place. There are plenty of places to stay in the keys and there have to be places that are better run than this one. I'll keep looking. read more

Absolutely loved our stay here. We visited last year with our kids in a group of 12 adults/kids. Reservations were made online and checking-in was easy. Decorated in a British Colonial style, our room felt quaint despite it's spaciousness.The bathroom spread included Tommy Bahama toiletries and the room had a large walk in closet. Our water view balcony was great (even if it was also overlooking the adult-only "serenity" pool- cruel joke on us considering the madness of our kids screaming in the background, but I digress). There was a lot to do within the resort. In theory, you can really be there the entire time without having to leave elsewhere. The grounds at Hawks Cay are spectacular and everything is within walking distance. One of the favorite amenities by our group was the night swimming (since the main-heated-pool was open very late). The overall vibe at the resort tends to be quite rambunctious with so many children running around. Even though there is a designated adults-only pool, I do not recommend this resort for couples. There is nothing romantic about it! All the kids enjoyed the pirate splash area and the lagoon. It was easy to relax by the lagoon given it's circular shape and small size. During the day, they have a bunch of activities for the kids as well as paddle boards and kayaks for their use. Ordering drinks and lunch lagoon-side was easy. It always took a little longer than expected, but then again, it's the keys. If you don't already know, SLOW is synonymous with KEYS. IMPORTANT: I do have one huge concern regarding the lagoon. It seems no one is guarding the center platform where all the kids like to gather. You have small kiddies standing next to older ones and no one limits how many can be on at once. There was always a lot of careless horsing around and I witnessed a couple of kiddies topple over or slip because of that reason. One of the dads in our group had to swim up to watch his kids closer when he noticed an older kid purposely shoving the younger ones. 12 kids up there at the same time is just too many. While the shallow beach entrance to the lagoon is wonderful for babies and toddlers, the fact that it gets deep very fast is incredibly dangerous. Given the activities in that middle platform, its depth increases the danger. If a child was to fall, they could easily get trapped underneath and not be able to come up on time. Not only were there a lot of kids on the platform, but also holding on to its edge at all times (limiting swim up access). Some solutions would be to expand the size of that middle platform and add a lifeguard, limit the amount of kids that can be on at a time, or even add a designated lifeguard nearby just for that. Unfortunately, I really think this is an (easily preventable) accident waiting to happen. One of the resorts most memorable experiences for us was dining at Alma. They were incredibly accommodating regarding my son's gluten/casein free diet. I inquired about their GFCF options and the chef was happy to come out and explain it all to us. Then, (because I had asked about it) they surprised us by going out and BUYING him some gluten free spaghetti (which was not on the menu, but a preferred meal by my son). Wait, you mean to tell me that you stopped what you were doing just to do this for us? WOW! They even brought it out for me approve the listed ingredients on the package! Talk about going out of your way for customer satisfaction! Not only that, but everything we had that night was delicious as well. The rest of the other restaurants were also very good. I really loved being able to have my Starbucks from the small lobby cafe. Score! I am looking forward to returning later this summer. We are hoping to try the villas this next time around and explore the dolphins area. This resort is highly recommended! read more

Stayed here overnight for my best friend wedding for one night this past weekend and wished that we were able to stay a longer. Living my whole life in South Florida, I rarely head south to the Keys since the beaches are not as accessible as the ones in Miami or Key Biscayne. The hotel was super clean and the staff were very friendly, while the rooms were spacious. The bed was one of the most comfortable I had the pleasure of sleeping on. There are several pools, the main one is the family one, while there is an adult only pool on the side. Also you rent a kayak roll out with a friend on the man made lagoon. One of the biggest highlight of the resort is a pool where you can swim with the dolphins. My wife and I are already making plans to return to this hotel because it truly another world from Miami. read more

Great Resort for Both Families and Couples I have visited this resort many times over the years. It is a great resort for both families and couples. The resort does a pretty good job maintaining peaceful, adult only environments for couples seeking a romantic experience while maintaining family environments for children and young adults to run free and have fun. There are so many activities such as the Dolphin Experience, the Spa (book your reservations early to ensure availability), paddle boarding, etc, that I would refer you to their website. Many of the popular activities may book early especially during season so recommend making reservations up front. Amenities. I have enjoyed the spa many times (even through name changes) and have had many relaxing massages with my husband however not this trip since it was a trip associated with a small fishing tournament with an industry trade association. Generally though, we always book our massages at the same time we book the room because we have missed out in the past. I have also enjoyed all five of the pools but we especially enjoy the Serenity Pool which is very quiet and peaceful (this is where to head if you are on a romantic trip without the children). There is chairlift in the main pool which I am seeing at more and more resorts in Florida. Besides the pools, there is also a very nice lagoon now to hangout at. A nice fire put to hangout at night. Very pretty at night with all the tiki torches lit. Rooms. They have rooms and townhomes. We have stayed in both. This trip was a room in the main building. There are robes, and the bath and shower stuff are from the Spa. Plenty of outlets. Coffee machine in room. Nicely decorated with a tropical flair. Typical room otherwise. Food. The food is good however this trip, since we were with a group of 400 for the fishing tournament as mentioned above we ate in the conference center, not the restaurant. We ate one meal off campus which I will write a review for (as well as review a restaurant we ate at on the drive down). Valet. We do not always valet here (we typically arrive in the boat or sometimes the motor cycle). This trip we valeted the first day but because of some of the confusion my husband saw the first day, he was not comfortable valeting his sports car the second day so he self parked. We did not have much luggage so it also expedited our departure not having to wait. They were friendly though. Service. I can best describe this with a common saying down here, "changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes". It is VERY laid back so if you take that into consideration, service was not bad. In fact, better than many other places we have visited in the Keys. Management. I probably should have waited to write this however I have noticed a number of times, having difficulty with our bill and this time I have a couple of charges on the bill I did not understand and have yet called about it. In fact, there was even confusion when we checked in when there should not have been --this trip was a company trip (the company was paying). Complaint (?). I was a little miffed that the water in the shower was not very hot. Just because it is hot outside does not mean that I desire a cold shower. Also never saw such a cheesy luggage stand (in fact two good stands would have been bonus). Again, I would remind the reader about the very laid back atmosphere mentioned previously which could affect your rating of service (I know to expect it so it does not disappoint). Lastly, still have not resolved my questions about the bill as mentioned earlier (hopefully it is okay but will update if not). Overall, I recommend this resort. This was our first time visiting the resort. we were traveling with our 2 children ages 8 and 11. The grounds were beautiful and there was lots for our children to do. They especially enjoyed the lagoon where they could kayak and stand up paddle board. Donnie at the lagoon was amazing. My family really liked talking with him and he helped my kiddos with there kayak and paddle boards. He was so friendly and was very knowledgeable on the resort and things to do! I also highly recommend the dolphin encounter. Our 8 year old did this encounter and can't stop talking about it, also they have a photographer and all the pictures were included in the price. The marina on property was also fun. Head over in the evening when the charters are heading back and you can feed the tarpon and see so many sharks and fish right off the dock! i could go on and on!!! read more

Extremely disappointed with our stay. I agree with other reviewers, the front desk (once they actually showed up, the desk was unattended for several minutes) was rude and not helpful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa that was in need of significant repair - dry wall damage that was poorly spackled, not even painted, ceiling fans didn't work, tv didn't work, air vents falling from ceiling held up by towels, drains broken, shower curtain ripped, stained and with a terrible order, dryer also had a terrible odor (see pics). We called engineering twice to address the lack of hot water but no one came. I got fed up and asked to change rooms and was provided keys that did not work by the again unhelpful front desk staff. I was told new keys would be brought to my room but after waiting over an hour, I gave up. Needless to say we will never return. Last year we went to the Índigo Reef resort in Marathon and the villa were MUCH better. Don't waste your time or money on Hawks Cay. read more

We had a great time this weekend. the staff is always so welcoming. Radar, a server, and Lemar, a valet, were 2 notable staff members who provided excellent service. The villa itself was only satisfactory. The shower water never got hot, only lukewarm and the walls look like they needed some repairs along with the carpet on the stairs needed cleaning - even the banister was sticky. The ac vents in the master bedroom were broken and closed so we were unable to open them. Overall, we had fun and enjoyed the pool and staff. read more

This wasn't my first time at the resort but it was by far not the best time. I've stayed at this amazing resort a few times because I live so close to the Keys in Ft. Lauderdale and it's nice to head down for some R&R. I've stayed in the regular rooms, the presidential suite and in the townhomes/villas. After IRMA, this resort is now under new management/ownership and is still going through a major renovation. Key word here is " still". My partner and I recently booked a 2 night 3 day stay because we attended a charity event and one of the auction items was a stay at Hawks Cay. I bid and won the vacation knowing I had stayed here many times in the past and loved each visit. Needles to say, they told me everything was open and ready except the marina so we made our reservation to enjoy the new remodel. When we arrived, it was a slightly different story. They are not fully ready for business. There was still packed up art sitting in our room waiting to be hung on the walls, a hole in the ceiling with wires hanging out as if a light was supposed to be hung there, bedding in a ball in our room closet and more. The rooms are very well decorated but you can hear every single word spoke in the rooms across the hall from you. There is no sound proofing at all. We heard kids screaming and yelling across the hall, people above us dragging stuff. We could even hear an elderly couple next to us at 6am talking in there rooms and waking us up. There were contractors crawling all over the place from 6am till evening, making noise, banging and even making it impossible to enjoy the adult only area or site on our private patio because we felt as if we were in a cage being watch. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. Plus all the noise and such made it almost impossible to get a good night's rest there. FYI: Their pillows are not comfortable either. They are stiff. We will give extremely high marks to their service staff. The bar staff like the bartender Scott , marketplace staff and so forth are amazing and very friendly. I will say we felt disappointed when we brought these issues up to the main desk and the female agent working stated " well you used a gift certificate". Yes, we used a certificate, from a charity auction that Hawks Cay donated and we bid on and won after paying nearly a thousand bucks for!! So in effect, we actually DID pay to stay there plus we ran up nearly 500.00 in charges for food and beverage in 2 nights that we paid for. I was offended by her comments. While it was nice that Mr. Dorsey interjected and had her remove one of our lunches from the bill, we still feel for all we paid, we didn't enjoy our stay very much which was a shame. Oh and while the morning breakfast is very good, fresh and well laid out.. it's not worth 50.00 for 2 people. There isn't even a meat and or omelet station nor do they offer mimosa or bloody mary. Sadly, my partner and I were looking for a nice relaxing time during the week when we really needed it but Hawks Cay just couldn't deliver. We asked very specific questions when making our reservation and we had been assured that the hotel itself was fully operational and open. Instead, we were placed in the middle of a construction zone with workers crawling all over the place. We feel as if we wasted our trip and wasted the money we spent on the auction and our money spent at the property. Everything Hawks Cay ever was to me and my past visits is now diminished. Sadly, I'm not sure I will revisit my fav resort in the Keys after this huge mess. #sad The old Hawks Cay would have taken every possible step to ensure we either left happy or attempted to re-book us for a do over. I fear this new ownership and management team won't do that. From their review responses and the response we got at the front desk, it's more like " thanks, sorry.. see ya" and they move on. ** update.. as expected the typical response from them to my review is posted.. " thanks for the feedback and bye" I was really expecting much more in terms to trying to correct the issues and make an attempt to rectify the poor issues we experienced our entire trip. Pilar Bar- Our room wasn't ready yet and we found ourselves at the Pilar Bar- in between the adults only land and the family pool. Jason, a true mixologist, was on duty. He made the best dry gin martini that I have ever had. He loves the history of the cocktail world and takes pride in creating the perfect refreshment. So far, 10/10 on the martini alone- absolutely delicious. I can't wait for tomorrow to get another martini for myself and an old fashioned for my husband! Grrrrrrr --------Zero Stars ----- First of all, I've been here several times, to include a very lovely wedding (without being a guest). 2) Tom (from Conch Key), who ate there a month ago, suggested grabbing a quick bite from the grill (without having to schlep over to Marathon (again!!!!) 3) The valet and the information gal, both said it was ok and "go around back to the bar." BUT ********** (Wait for it) ********* The waiter advised us that he "cannot except cash or credit card". That we must be a guest to dine (outside by the bar). Fine!!!! How is this for size. NEVER!!!!!! Ok. Not only Never but for ANYONE who ask......hears that Hawks Cay is "simply not worth it. (and for anyone who may wonder...our group was dressed for the location and as sweet as pie. I so wanted this resort to be a nice relaxing stay. We decided to do a quick trip sans kiddos. Room service/housekeeping was not running due to Covid. We were not made blatantly aware of this information when we made reservations, and honestly, that may have skewed where we stayed. If I would have known we were paying full price and not getting full service I would not have stayed at this resort.That is not my big issue. I understand precautions need to be taken during a pandemic. This resort has no "back up plan" for lack of housekeeping. They ask you to call the front desk (90%) of front desk staff were also rude. When you ask for washcloths/towels/coffee cups you most likely won't get them.... when you call back to ask again, they're ruder and you most likely still won't get what you called for. When you walk into the gift shop the lady that works there avoids eye contact with you. Even if I wanted to purchase the overpriced items in the gift shop I would not do so because she is so rude. It's like people are being forced to work there......It seemed as if the only staff that were kind were the ones that were expecting a tip. Our refrigerator did not work the first day and the two maintenance man that came were very rude. Our hot water also did not work the first day so when we had to call back down to the front desk to have someone come the lady at the desk was rude as though it was our fault that their resort did not have hot water flowing in our room. No one ever apologized and we were treated as though we had done something wrong. On a positive note the waitress we had by the pool for our stay could not have been sweeter. She was attentive and genuinely kind and happy to be there. If you're going to eliminate housekeeping you should have a back up plan. Put towel carts in hall way, have a place to empty trash (no one comes to get it.) make sure you advise guest that you are eliminating part of your luxury in their stay. As beautiful as the resort is I would not recommend staying here to anyone and I will not be coming back. Even after advising the front desk staff that we had issues with no one bringing us supplies and their rudeness no one ever offered to get a manager. In fact, the day we did ask for a manager to give us a call no one ever called. 10/10 would not recommend They definitely need to have a come to Jesus meeting with all of their staff. read more

I truly wish I could give this resort a higher score, but I cannot. The disappointment began the moment we checked in, as the front desk employee was rude and unhelpful and seemingly wanted to be anywhere else but there. I wanted to send her to the Disney business course. The room was very nice, but they have no room service, and made a clear point to us that we would have to ask over 24 hours in advance for any service whatsoever, and would have to be gone for the safety of their staff. So welcoming. We have a room with an additional veranda by the adult pool. I truly love the poison sumac growing up the stair railing, and the lighting that failed to work for the entire stay so that we tripped on the stairs at night repeatedly. Two days into the stay they decided to repair something on our pool. They wrapped the entire area in beautiful yellow caution tape that remained until our last day, but they did not return any pool furniture. What service. For six days, we had only one pool service employee (there is a nice family pool area too) approach us to see if we needed anything. Amazing. Most employees seemed annoyed with any question posed to them, although there were three that were friendly. Oh! The food at the available venues was mediocre at best, except for Angler and Ale, which was delightful. Anyway, there is a sign at the front desk declaring this establishment a four diamond resort. Stayed half the week at Cheeca Lodge and half the week here. The differences are quite stark. This resort has lots of potential but it's not there yet. The service was lacking throughout. Plus it's a vastly different crowd. We had our pool toys out every day and shared them with whomever. The kids are Cheeca Lodge were respectful and asked to play with them and returned them when done. First day at Hawks I saw an older kid take our water ball- alter it and take the casing off, then sneakily drop the casing down the drain. Of course he denied every bit of it. FISHERMAN's & BOATERS NIGHTMARE!!!! What an ugly unpleasant experience I had with my family & my two boys this weekend. We stayed here from Sept 02-05 2016 to visit our potential future home, in which we have a contract on what we thought would be our dream home. Make a long story short "I voided my contract this morning to buy here". I do not recommend anyone to come here who values a family oriented place with respect, morals & service. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, I'm sure another venue will appreciate you as their guest. Be aware of the person Hawks Cay hired as the face of their product called their "Dockmaster". I believe his name is Ed. This individual charged me $20 to launch my boat and $20 to take it out of the water?! What Marina in the world charges you twice??? As I stated that to him he screams in front of my family and kids "Then don't launch your boat here! What a rude, unprofessional staff member you have as the face of your product. I'd never let my family and friends ever go to such a NEGATIVE place again. You guys have no core values and shows that your HR dept is a joke by the feedback of yet another unhappy client. He then calls the police to make us feel uncomfortable & hostile as we were trespassers making the situation even worst for us "the guest" because he didn't like the fact that I told him he's robbing people's money. Or maybe he's just stealing and nobody knows. It's my right to say what I feel and my 1st amendment. Are we still in America or did I land in Cuba? To make matters even worst, he and an another employee that is a blonde young lady that was there on marina duty both kept laughing and celebrated as if victory was won of making your guest feel bad. You know what? That's the only thing you guys did right "make your guest feel like shit" . What an ugly experience lady's and gentleman on behalf of Hawks Cay finest. You guys are no where near a 4 star ratting with these kinds of feedbacks. I actually feel sorry for you guys for delivering such a mess of a product. Is it not the job of staff members to make guest feel special? Enjoy their stay? Address them as sir, mam? Maybe even say "I apologize for the inconvenience as hotel policy? I think someone else should be appointed a job with better knowledge of Hospitality. I as a business owner myself. If I had one of my employees talk and make my clients feel that way would be grounds for dismissal. My clients are special to me. They provide the shelter and food and clothing for my family. I never take that for granted. As organizer and owner of many fishing tournaments I will address this issue at all our Captains meeting & Anglers to void coming to your facility. I will share my experience, fees and overall negativity being at your premises. No one should have that experience. We were here for the Park West VIP event. Due to my food allergies(which I spoke to them about the first day) I could not get food that was safe for me to eat. Even plain salad had shrimp piled on it. When asked about ingredients was told chicken skewers were safe. Spent that night sick. The event provided an open bar unfortunately they couldn't find them a blender. day one was scrambled eggs and scrambled eggs with peppers for breakfast with bengals and mint fruit. No cheese or ketchup was provided. The eggs were cold. We ended up going to Publix for pop tarts. The next day was quiche which I could tell had one of my allergiens in it. I asked for something I could eat. The staff member said he would get me scrambled eggs. When he came back said management said I would have to go pay for food at the restaurant. Back to the room for more pop tarts. They also failed to inform the convention hosts that all of the villa rooms have only upstairs bedrooms. As a result Individuals with mobility issues were left sleeping on pull outs in the living room. There is no handicap parking for the convention center. The first day the wheelchair access was blocked by a wedding party. The rooms are a significant distance from the convention center. They offer golf cart transportation, however you have to call from your own phone to have it come. 3 calls and 45 min, having to stand outside, later they finally arrived. This is a late review... we had a large group where most of us stayed in a villa and a couple stayed in the hotel. Our rooms were very clean. The villa had 2 bedrooms, one was really nice with a balcony and a really nice view, mine was incredibly small, window view of parking lot (however not complaining, as to I didn't come to hangout in the bedroom). The downstairs there is a deck with the same view as the upstairs balcony. It is a little bit of a walk to get to the main resort, and you have to cross a busy street, but the landscape is nice. Loved the adult pool, clean and very relaxing. The main pool was a little crowded, but everyone appeared to be having fun. Food was really good, staff was friendly and helpful. I would absolutely go back. read more

I stayed here in 2001 and hated it - but some places actually improve! I got invited to stay there in 2008 right after they finished the renovation. As somebody who stays ~200 nights per year in a hotel, I wasnt that inpressed with the room, although it was a large and nice corner room - still something was missing. What was missing, I discovered while staying in a brand new 2 bedroom conch style town house. Beautiful inside and outside with full sunset views and a lot of style. The food improved as well compared to 2001. The grounds are beautiful and finally there is an adult pool. Besides the hotel premises, loved the little island community, Duck Key. We will come back for sure and already booked the next little vacation in a 2br villa (stay at the preferred villa, ist worth it). read more

My time at Hawks Cay Resort was a short lived glimpse of Heaven. Thanks to Daisy S.'s invite we got to spend a few days in Paradise. The rooms average $300 a night but are comfortable and worth with the price if your vacationing in groups. Our villa was a spacious two bedroom townhouse with a full kitchen, balcony, 2 1/2 bathrooms, flat screens. All the comforts of home. As to the resort, the grounds are beautiful. The pool area is a perfect relaxation spot. There are lots of lounge chairs, palm trees blowing in the wind and of course the ocean!! Plus a wait staff at your beck & call...Miami Vices anyone?!!?! The guest occupancy for the hotel is more than the pool and recreation area can hold, making it uncomfortable and unlikely to get to use the resort fee accommodation, like water sport equipment. Current staying in one of the marina villas, this place is an absolute joke. After 8 hours or traveling our party of 9 arrived and checked in, we drove to our rooms and unloaded before realizing NONE of our keys worked. Once we loaded back up and exchanged keys we walked into a disgusting room. The shower had a huge grey hair ball strung across the wall. And clearly it hadn't been cleaned well. We only had one bar or soap in the whole villa and 2 towels per bathroom. We talked to Christina, the manager, she assured us she would have house keeping come clean "again". We came back hours later to find nothing had been cleaned. when we called and spoke with Christina yet AGAIN she insisted that house keeping DID clean. Come to find out house keeping cleaned the wrong room. UGH. This place looks absolutely nothing like the pictures and is much less than mediocre. To say the least we're extremely disappointed. (If you're looking for a nice place in the keys to stay I recommend checking out the bungalows or playa largo, both we have stayed at and are exceptional.) read more

We stayed here with two older teenage boys. We were in the villas. We loved our location-right by the sunset pool which was seldom busy. The villa was clean and attractive. There were some minor maintenance issues (the bathroom hand towel holder had obviously been removed and not replaced) but that was negligible. We went to the main resort part a couple times. It appeared nice but we didn't use those pools since we were so close to another one. The Angler and Ale was the only restaurant we tried and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service. My husband and I loved the slower pace. I think the two teenage boys might have liked some more excitement but they enjoyed the water activities we did during the day-scuba, jet skis, etc. We had no issues with check-in. Prices are a bit high for food but no higher than a lot of other local restaurants. We did use a travel agent to book so that may have negated some of the problems others have mentioned. read more

This hotel is in serious decline. Think they are waiting out the next storm to sweep it out to sea so they can collect the insurance. Room was horrible. Small, cramped with terrible beds and pillows. I stress that the beds are terrible and cheap. Bathrooms are 1980s disgusting with a death trap 2' drop from the bath/shower to floor. All our water splashed up against the wall and flowed steadily onto the bathroom floor. Moldy and gross. And our toilet just constantly ran after reaching out to hotel staff to fix. Pirate pool is best. Yet avoid this place. We went 7 or so yrs ago and thought it was nice yet it is in serious decline and disrepair. No laundry as well for those with families even though we called ahead and we're informed there was. Nothing like spending part of your vaca in a local laundromat. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Oh yeah, and your bathroom sliding door won't shut all the way which was a nice bonus. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some air quality issues in our room as well since my daughter constantly coughed our entire 6 day stay. We stayed here for a family reunion just before Christmas, and the resort was great. The Pirate Pool children's area was especially enjoyable since we had 8 children with us. Donald, who works in the activity center, was particularly helpful, and he even made a point to memorize all the children's AND ADULTS names (15 in all)!!! Refrigerator has she elves broken out if it. Does not keep anything cold. Hot tubs are not hot and jets don't work. Could not check in on time and no callback like promised. Third time in line to complain ( no one answered phone 1 person working front desk 4 deep. Women in front of me was getting new room. Here had cockroaches and not cleaned. Women behind me also had cockroaches and said this was her 5th time at front desk to complain about service. We have 5 more days here I sure hope our food dies not go bad and things get better I went back to complain again she went to shift leafy or whatever he is . He said we will get a replacement refrigerator Upping to 2 pending replacement U to a 3 refrigerator taken care of Internet problems this morning and went to call front desk No one answered . 100 percent at not answering for customer service. 2 of 3 hot tubs don't work. Staff claims they didn't know. 3 days later they still don't know. If u eat here food sub standard and priced extremely high. Leave resort to eat or drink. read more

The room was disgusting when we got there and it was very obvious that there was no maintenance done in the past few months. The air filter was so dirty that it had sucked into the duct, there were live roaches in the bathroom, and the tub would not drain so I had to pull an enormous hair ball out of it. The resort itself was nice and the majority of the staff was pleasant with exception to the toll troll at the front desk of the 1961 restaurant who proceeded to tell us that: "We did not have a reservation and that all reservations came through him and him only!" meanwhile there were literally 2 people occupying the entire restaurant. The wifi in this resort is absolutely terrible. I can't get any sort of work done or anything when I'm here. We pay so much money to stay here multiple times a year and they can't get their guests better wifi. I know they are able to because I'm very familiar with real estate and internet providers in this area and management in this hotel chooses to give their guests the crappiest service ever. read more

I have stayed here many times and am surprised by the negative reviews. This place is amazing and full of great activities for the kids. It's true that they are severely understaffed, but they are not alone in this as the service industry, in general, is struggling to find people who actually want to work right now. I just returned home from my stay at Hawks Cay Resort a few days ago, and I must say I was impressed. I'm a NYer who now lives in Florida, and I wanted to vacation in state somewhere nice. I took a friends recommendation, and I was not disappointed.... Firstly, Fábio Moura went above and beyond to make sure we were happy during our stay, making sure everyone and everything was wonderful! It was my partners birthday and he made sure there were balloons and a special treat waiting for her! She was so happy! The staff, they were spot on, I love the fact that besides their names on their tags, you added where they called home... a special touch. I jotted down a few names because people that treated me extra special, and always had a smile on their face, and gave extra attention to us deserve recognition for a job well done.... Tirshira, very sweet friendly, Tyler, Will, Alyssa, they were as well... Stephan from Macedonia, great waiter/bar guy soooo helpful, Both ladies at Starbucks forgot to write down their names, (during the day), Michel, Hyacinth, Caridad from Housekeeping stopped what she was doing to help us, Bobby doing Bellhop & Jimmy from Jamaica, So sweet when he grabbed our luggage, his smile, his whole demeanor. The entire staff was extraordinary there, they made our stay there fabulous. The resort was very nice, loved our room facing the steps leading out to pool. Very clean.
