As many of us do, we will look at the reviews and see it's highly rated only to realize that all the fake/paid 5/5 reviews are distorting the rest of the real ones that will discuss the truth of what you'll get with this stay. You will go to the manager to discuss this putrid smell and attempt to get a refund since you not only can't sleep through the disgust, the beach that you mainly booked for, is completely not usable. The manager will regurgitate a scripted response as she has done many times because there's obviously been a substantial amount of complaints regarding the lack of usability of the beach. It is as follows: - We have a live camera that shows the quality of the beach - I scream from everywhere regarding the sargasm - just check the website - No refunds. I'll credit your stay but you should have known the risks if you just look at the website. - We clean the beach daily. - It will be better when there is high tide. It's just low tide right now. - This all came in last night. All of that are completely erroneous. They have no live camera or mention of built up sargasm/seaweed on their website, and with the ample amounts of trash and literal decomposing seaweed, it is very telling that there is no daily clean up. There is a camera of the patio and far off ocean that conveniently does not display the shoreline but that's a separate Florida website that displays several hotels with the conditions of the property. Again, this camera also does not transparently show the shoreline where tons of sargasm built up is displayed. As a business owner, I understand that company culture starts at the top. A manager who repeatedly makes dishonest claims and responds defensively rather than with understanding reflects a culture established by ownership--one that prioritizes denying refunds over treating customers fairly. That approach may protect a single payment, but it will ultimately cost the business far more in trust and reputation. As more customers share honest experiences like mine, those reviews will speak louder than the questionable stream of perfect five-star ratings, and potential guests will know to stay elsewhere. So, now you have booked to stay here and you are told no refunds - what to do? 1 - document everything (be very honest and show exactly what you got - the truth is on your side). 2 - forget them giving you a refund or Expedia or wherever you booked because they will not try to help you at all. Instead, go to your credit card company and dispute it with them letting them know that literally you are not getting what you paid for. You probably were like us and wanted to use the beach and the beach is not only unusable and gross - it is hazardous. 3 - leave immediately (we left after 1.5 hours) and stayed at another hotel. Why put yourself through torture and pay for a terrible experience? I'm telling you, your stay will get so much better elsewhere. We personally booked at the Hyatt Vacation Homes for less money in Key West and had a FABULOUS time once there. 4 - Again, document all the issues you see in the hotel and follow up with your credit card customer service team. Also, contact the Florida health code and other departments (elevator, hotel ratings, BBB, etc.), so they at least meet minimal standards for operating a hotel. I can't emphasize this enough - DO NOT STAY HERE. You will be miserable. It's gross, dirty, and they have terrible customer service. Save yourself the headache. It is as it smells - like a piece of decomposing sargasm.

There's a welcome lounge before you board the ferry, and then you're transported by boat to this beautiful, secluded private island. Being picked up by ferry just for dinner made the evening feel like such an occasion. Dinner itself was truly an experience, not just a meal. We enjoyed a five-course dinner over about 3 1/2 hours, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was intimate and relaxing, the service made us feel like we could really take our time and enjoy the evening, and the dirty martini was excellent! We even had a surprise visitor during dinner--a little deer wandered by, which made the experience even more memorable. After dinner, we had some time before our 10 PM ferry and were able to walk around and see the fish swimming around the property at night. One of the most unexpected highlights was looking up at the sky. Because the island is so private and secluded, the views of the stars were absolutely incredible. Between the welcome lounge, ferry ride, private island setting, five-course dinner, wildlife, and beautiful night sky, the entire evening felt magical. It's definitely a splurge, but for a special occasion or a truly unique Florida Keys experience, it is absolutely worth it. We even had our own private pool! At arrival and every day the staff at the resort were super friendly. Upon arrival the house had a few issues, when we told the front desk I kid you not, everything was immediately fixed. They allowed free issued of paddle boards and kayaks which the children really enjoyed. The island is in the middle keys, an easy drive to the supermarket and an hour from key west, which I highly recommend! We even were able to rent a boat for the week and dock it at the resort with no issues! I highly recommend the resort!

We were delighted in so many ways. We stayed in the Fighting Conch Cottage. It is situated on the man-made beach. There are 3 cottages like this. View is spectacular. Hammocks, chairs and thatch huts for coverage. The cottage is well appointed with full kitchen and separate bedroom. Modern bath and very clean. Great AC. The grounds are so relaxing and they have free paddle boards and kayaks (most places in Keys charge extra). Plenty of parking. All of the other cottages seemed quaint as did the pool area. I have never been so relaxed. I slept for 4 hours under the thatch roof on the first day. For tourists: Remember that the Florida Keys are rock islands. You won't get a white sand beach. That is the norm. Any beach is man-made in the Keys. The same goes for here. The beach is man-made but very nice. It is grassy in the water. This is normal for the Keys. The nearest food is about a 12-15 minute drive to Marathon. We loved being this secluded but do know that you'll have a short little jaunt for food. We will definitely be back.

They try to bait and switch customers into booking into a dumpy motel. I was able to get a refund from hotel tonight because they are booking under a fake listing only to be redirected to a motel with no amenities. Such a disappointment and scam. When i asked the manger to rebook me for the motel with the rate advertised online she ghosted me. They are just looking for last minute bookings to people who arrive late and don't have time to find another place. Buyers remorse!

I've been coming to this resort regularly for many years, and it has always been one of my favorite…read moreplaces. I've recommended it to so many people because our stays were consistently close to perfect. Unfortunately, our last few visits have felt noticeably different, with enough recurring issues and changes that they no longer feel isolated. Housekeeping and room maintenance have become inconsistent. Across recent stays, we've encountered dirty mirrors and sinks, hair and dirt left behind, a stained towel, clogged sink, broken door lock, and missing room amenities that used to be consistently provided. During another stay, housekeeping loudly knocked between 8-9 AM asking about checkout two mornings in a row when we weren't checking out. Most recently, our mini fridge was essentially a freezer, freezing my dog's food and eventually causing a seltzer to freeze and explode around 6 AM, blowing the fridge door open and waking us up scared. Dining has changed considerably too. Calusa has closed at 9 PM instead of 10 PM due to lower occupancy, which makes enjoying dinner after sunset difficult. The dinner menu could use more variety and consistency, although the braised short rib is AMAZING! Bread service has also disappeared, as has one of my favorite amenities, ordering food directly to Hammock Beach. Breakfast may be the biggest disappointment. The old menu has essentially been replaced by a $40-per-person buffet. During our stay, the limited alternative menu went from being available upon request to suddenly not being offered at all. We, along with several other parties, left the resort for breakfast instead. The buffet itself also feels like a downgrade from the breakfast experience we used to love. Another concern is that more things cost extra while fewer extras seem to be included. Overnight parking now costs extra, as do kayaks and paddleboards. I completely understand charging day-pass guests for activities, but overnight guests are already paying for their room AND a resort fee. Charging those guests again for basic resort activities while other included amenities disappear contributes to the feeling that we're paying more while receiving less. Even little touches have changed, like sunset champagne going from acrylic flutes to basic plastic cups. Individually these things may sound insignificant, but together they affect whether the experience feels like a luxury resort or simply a nice hotel. There is still so much I love. The property and sunsets are beautiful, and I LOVE how dog-friendly the resort is. Peter, Stacey, Tashana, Valdez, and Miguel at Calusa have also consistently been wonderful and deserve recognition. I'm writing this because I genuinely love this resort and know how great it can be. Lately, though, we find ourselves leaving the property to eat or find experiences we previously enjoyed right here, which starts to defeat the purpose of choosing a resort (and paying a resort fee). For me, five stars represents the luxury experience we consistently received here in years past. I'm giving four because there is still so much I love, but our recent stays simply haven't been at that same five-star luxury level. I truly hope it gets back there.

We booked a three night stay at Bakers Cay Resort and found it to be an overall good experience. VIBES - This resort had a boutique resort feel. Loved all the lush tropical plants growing throughout. Everything was bright and airy and really leaned into the Florida Keys vibe you'd expect. At Dry Rocks, the Mexican-inspired beach restaurant, there's even swings and couches to dine al fresca! POOLS & BEACHES - Hammock Beach was particularly neat because it was more of secluded spot with mangroves covering the majority of it. This gave little hideaway type areas to relax without feeling like you were right on top of other guests. Loved the waterfall at the family pool. Lounging there in the morning before the sun was bearing down was definitely the way to go. The main beach offerd up a tiki bar and plenty of louge chairs. AMENITIES - There's a wide variety of activities to do. After you check in they will ask if you want alerts about the happenings at the resort. From movie nights, to morning yoga, to champagne toasts - there's a little something for everyone. There's also self scheduled activities like kayaking and paddle boarding. BONUS - It's dog friendly! So bring your behaved furry friend. They have plenty of waste stations throughout the resort and everyon seemed to do a great job cleaning up after their pet. Loved getting to see all the furry friends. Even if it made me miss our girl. There were a couple drawbacks unfortunately that kept us from giving Baker's Cay Resort the full five stars. Everything was super expensive. Even counting our food and beverage credits it felt like everything had been priced to ensure that truly made no difference. I mean it was $100 for us to eat at a self-service breakfast buffet that I swear said it was included in our stay. Yikes! Next, the adults only pool was undergoing maintenance during our stay. Luckily it wasn't too crowded at the family pool. Lastly, someone brought a dog that just wasn't the best behaved and barked incessantly when it was down near the water at Hammock Beach; which unfortunately for us was right under our balcony. Baker Cay Resort definitely fit the bill for a fortieth birthday celebration splurge. So if you're looking for boujee with solid amenities Bakers Cay is for you - just call ahead to verify if the pool is open and save your pennies to ensure you can afford the room charges at the end.

We chose to rent and drive from the airport because we had a trip to Key West planned. It's about a 90 minute drive from the airport so, an Uber would have been pretty costly. The valet takes care of your luggage and places it on a golf cart while you check in. The check in process took about 10 min. The front desk staff wasn't super friendly but they weren't rude either. They are supposed to offer you a drink, but we were not offered one by our receptionist while the couple next to us were offered one. No biggie. One thing to note: when you book, 50% is due. Then the other 50% is due thirty days prior to your arrival if you switch your source of payment, they charge you 10%. That same card has do be used for gratuity or add ons. Keep this in mind when you plan. Also, they put a $100/day hold on your card when you check in. After check in, the valet takes you on a tour of the property and then brings you to your room. You'll want to have cash for gratuity for the valet. The Bungalows themselves are gorgeous and offer an outdoor area and outdoor shower. I don't think the beach view bungalows are worth the upgrade. After that, you're on your own for the most part. They schedule your dinner, but other than Bogie and Bacall, they are pretty flexible. Fish Tales is the main restaurant. They offer a four course meal. The food was great. I wouldn't say "amazing" but really well done. The service is impeccable. This is an all inclusive bur gratuity isn't included. This was annoying and probably my biggest complaint. At the end of your meal you are handed a check of all you consumed with a recommend range of gratuity. You put in what you want to leave and sign it and leave. The issue is, it's hard to keep track of how much you're spending. So if you're on a budget, that can be a problem. At night everyone gathers around the tiki bar to enjoy the entertainment. There is only one bad and it fills quickly. The bartenders are also filling drink orders for the pool, and in some situations, Sea Seniors next door. You can also order food at the tiki bar if you choose. It's basic bar food and pizza but quite delicious. There is live entertainment daily from 11-11. There was trivia one night, and karaoke another. But there were no real events offered. In the mornings everyone heads to Fishtales for breakfast. There is a good variety of choices, including a buffet. They do not change it up at all though. So it can get a little boring day after day. They also have a mimosa and bloody Mary self serve bar. Pro tip, bring your own yeti and take two plastic cups of minosa and some ice and put them in your yeti for the pool. There are no drinks served until 11 am at the pool which was pretty odd in my opinion. The tiki bar also doesn't open until 11. It was off season but I will say that the pool didn't really get busy. There are two pools. Ok is a zen pool with little cabana beds. It's more quiet there but the main pool was described as the party pool and he was really chill too. There are about 12 pairs of lounge chairs and umbrellas and two big cabanas with couches. It didn't seem like there would be enough but it ended up to be plenty. We w They have servers come around the pool but it takes quite a bit to get your drinks so pack your patience. They also give you a bill at the end with what you ordered and suggested gratuity. It was easy to forget and just leave so I hated this process. I would have rather been charged a daily gratuity to be split between the staff but that's not what they want to do. Bogie and Bacalls: you get a free night there if you stay for more than 4 days. If you don't it's $300 plus gratuity. This was their high end restaurant and it wand spectacular! You get a ton of food and premium drinks. Expect to tip about $100 here. There is an indoor bar/speakeasy called Hemingways. This is not included in your stay. It's premium cocktails and liquor. There is also the "Family Room" which is a giant indoor/outdoor game room. There are no servers there. If you have a yeti, you could grab a few drinks from the tiki bar and keep it cold. There is a huge TV so we were able to watch the USA game on it with a few other guests. I chose to get a massage. It's a beautiful area of the park but there's no way that 50 min massage was worth $300 + 22% gratuity. They offer water activities. No one was using them. There are some other ads ons but very few guests chose to do them. Overall this is a wonderful, very chill spot and I can see why many guest come back year after year. I wish there were more dining and bar options, and more events offered. The cost was pretty high for what they offer. But we had an amazing time and I'm so glad we did it!

At night, there was live music, making it a wonderful place to sit, relax, and enjoy the view. The resort has a lot to offer, including oceanfront family pools, an adult relaxation pool, a swimming beach with loungers, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing rods and reels, and a beautiful 525-foot fishing pier for catch-and-release fishing. There is also a 9 hole executive golf course, tennis courts, pickleball courts, sports courts, and beach cruiser bicycles. Families can enjoy the kids' game room and Camp Cheeca, which provide fun activities for children. Adults can relax at the full-service spa, fitness center, sunrise yoga classes, and water aerobics. The resort also offers Wi-Fi, concierge service, in-room coffee and tea, bottled water, EV charging stations, and shuttle service within 2 miles. Some areas of the resort could use a little restoration. For example, the jacuzzi next to the family pool looked like it needed some maintenance. We also noticed a slight seaweed smell near the beach, but this may be normal during the high season and can depend on the weather and ocean conditions. On our first day, we ate at Nikai, the resort's sushi restaurant. Guests can sit outside and enjoy the view, which I really liked. There is also indoor seating, but the restaurant is fairly small. We ordered the Salmon Aburi, Dragon Roll, and Matsuri Roll. The outdoor seating was definitely my favorite because we could enjoy our food and drinks while taking in the beautiful surroundings. Cheeca Lodge has several dining options besides sushi. Atlantic's Edge offers oceanfront dining with beautiful views and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mia Cucina serves Italian style dishes in a relaxed setting. Tiki Bar and 25South are great places for drinks, snacks, and casual meals. Guests can also visit Morada Bay Beach Café for a relaxed beachside dining experience. Pierre's is another popular nearby restaurant, known for its elegant atmosphere and beautiful waterfront setting. At night, the front ocean view fireplace area with live music is a great place to enjoy a drink after dinner. The combination of the fire, ocean view, and music creates a very relaxing atmosphere. Having so many restaurants and dining choices nearby makes the resort very convenient. You can enjoy sushi, Italian food, casual drinks, beachside meals, or a more elegant dinner without traveling far. The resort has a beautiful Florida Keys atmosphere and offers plenty of activities for both adults and families. I especially liked having so many options in one place, including the beach, pools, water activities, fishing, golf, tennis, pickleball, spa, restaurants, live music, and our comfortable ocean-view room with a fireplace. It is a great place to relax, enjoy the water, dine, and have everything conveniently located at the resort. The champagne welcome, included valet parking, ocean views, fireplace, and live music were also nice extra touches. Although a few areas need a little restoration and there was a slight seaweed smell during the high season, these issues did not ruin our stay. I would definitely recommend Cheeca Lodge & Spa if you are planning a trip to the Florida Keys and want a resort with plenty of amenities, beautiful views, comfortable rooms, great dining options, and a relaxing atmosphere.

They have a great menu for lunch options that they bring out to you. The room was very clean, modern, and spacious. You can request a microwave if you need too! There are bikes, paddle boards, and kayaks for rental for free. Lots of things going on in between the three resorts - we wish we'd had a chance to try the yoga! We will be back for years to come.

Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing. The day before my trip, I came down with a cold and decided not to travel. At the same time, I accidentally dropped my phone in the pool and could not make calls. I immediately used my tablet to email both Booking.com and Amara Cay to cancel my reservation. Despite my efforts, the cancellation was not properly handled. When I finally got a replacement phone and called 24 hours later, I was passed back and forth between Amara Cay and Booking.com with no resolution. I was ultimately charged for both nights as a "no-show." Even more frustrating, according to the stated policy, a no-show should result in a charge for one night, not two. Amara Cay later emailed me twice saying they would look into the matter, but no one ever followed up. After more than ten years of being a loyal guest, I am very disappointed. Unfortunately, this experience has caused me to cross Amara Cay off my list. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this hotel to others.
