Always a great time! We love coming here for the family experience. This is trip number 4. The view is amazing! You can almost see dolphin. The new sportsbar they have is delicious! There prime rib is to die for. I was sad to see they didn't have the mind reader this year. I purposely brought my son here to see him. Touches like that, seriously make the difference at Hawks cay. Until you're minds is read and a fork twisted in your hand, you won't have a magical vacation! Plus my favorite bartender Erin wasnt there either. The tennis pro from last year was not there either. The resort is a bit older and the service is not great! They run out of regular things all the time! Like salt, oatmeal and regular stock alcohol. Not impressed and was disappointed of that outcome. If they could step up their game in service that's would be helpful. Needless to say we will be looking for another place to stay in the future. Not impressed. read more

I can't simply say enough about Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys...if you've ever wanted to have a tropical getaway styled vacation and you don't want to leave the US, this is the spot for you! Let me start by telling you the first time we came here we rented a three bedroom townhome which was just spectacular the only thing we had to do was just buy groceries... everything and when I tell you everything was included in the home from towels to dishes to every utensil cooking pot and pan, big screen TVs in every room (but whos got time for TV) free Wi-Fi and the list goes on and on... EVERYTHING! Oh and let's not forget the breathtaking views remember you're surrounded by water on a little island called Duck Key! I won't try explaining more just get there and see for yourself and don't forget to have a margarita! read more

#1) wouldn't tell us if the room was ready over the phone, made us come in and then told us it wasn't ready (this wasted 2 hours of our time on the first day we arrived) and were condescending when I asked about this policy #2) Reserved a two-queen second bedroom, got a two-TWIN second bedroom, was told "sorry sir, there's nothing we can do." -had to arrange another room in town for our remaining guests #3) was told the room we had was waterfront, turned out, you could "see" the water from the room #4) room was never serviced the entire 4 days we were there #5) no extra garbage bags, no cleaning supplies, beat up kitchen supplies #6) had reserved a one hour lake check-out, yet housekeeping was knocking on and opening our door 5 times between 10am and noon. Summary: this place looks nice on paper, but service is horrible, units are aging and noisy (have video), parking was a nightmare (and as a result, someone damaged my fender) and management shrugs their shoulders on issues. First off, we rented in the Marina Village and the room was very disappointing. Smelled moldy and was not impressive at all. After my husband experienced a fall from a hole outside we switched rooms to the Sunset Villas. This room was much nicer. We were super disappointed the Pirate Pool area where all family activities are located closed at 7:00pm. Also it is a walk all the way to the pirate pool area. They did not allow us to bring in juice boxes for the kids either. We asked to open an umbrella and they said they could not due to the winds. It truly was not windy but thats what they said. The worst was when we were accosted over towels. My sister grabbed some towels and I stayed to put them under our room but the pool attendant said he needed to either go to my car and check or follow me to my sister because he did not believe the number I gave him. I have never dealt with such a rude and basically hostile employee at any resort. Management did call me to get more information about my complaint but fair warning we would NOT recommend this resort. If you do decide to go despite this review and you have children, take your own towels to avoid pool attendant. Also take a stroller to get to the pool area. Super disappointing and not what you expect for the price you are paying. Honestly there is better places to stay at the keys which have been way more convenient and a so much better experience for us! read more

We stayed in the Marina Villa (8402). Had a great view of the marina (only two rooms on a floor). Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Two bedrooms each had a bath and king size beds. One bath was a oval tub and other a large walk in shower (had a washer/dryer also). It had a full kitchen with everything; dishwasher, toaster, microwave, oven, stove, etc. Furniture was all heavy duty and sophisticated. Dining room could seat 6. Both bedrooms opened to the screened in balcony, which had a dining table and lounge chairs. Everything seemed top shelf. Parking was nice under the building so car stayed cool. Sunset cruise was nice and we enjoyed snorkeling. At night, we sat in large cushioned chairs with cushioned foot rests, and enjoyed the water fountain with the fire while listening to live entertainment (acoustic guitar) and drinking cocktails. It doesn't get any better. We arrived late at night. We opened the door and saw the lights were on and fans running. It was a fantastic sight. We used the main pool, the adult pool and one of the spas. The water was clean and inviting. We watched the activity in the dolphin area, and it looked like fun. Overall, we had an excellent stay (four full days). Next time, we'll take the kids. read more

I am giving this a 5-star for one reason - they go above and beyond. Minutes after checking in, our 10-year-old daughter fainted and hit her head on a rock as she fell along sidewalk. The travel day was long and hard for her. After an ambulance ride, a CAT scan and an IV (she was dehydrated), she was ok to enjoy rest of her vacation. Hawks Cay sent us dinner at the hospital (on them) with plenty of snacks and water for our daughter the rest of the stay. They truly turned a horrible situation into a more worry-free one. I will note prices are high but that's to be expected with a place like this. But it's places like this that are worth every penny. read more

For what we paid I'm super disappointed. First day we witnessed a kid throw up in and outside the main pool. We told an employee and they did nothing which was shocking. After that we told the front desk who also did nothing, but gave us drink tickets smh. The mom of the son ended up throwing pool water over the vomit and that's how it was "cleaned up." We watched several couples walk through it, we were totally disgusted and took our kids to another pool located by our villa which was super quite. The best pool is the kids pool and pirate ship. The staff was friendly and attentive there, the kids had a blast! Our villa 507* had an amazing sunset view, it looked run down and had broken glass on the side of the house. I woke up to make breakfast only to find a COCKROACH AND GECKO in our kitchen cabinet, no I'm not kidding! They offered us a new villa, but we didn't want to move all our belongings so we had them spray. We figured the new villa would have cockroaches too and at least this one was sprayed . Day 3, we had a man setting off commercial grade fire works right outside our villa which woke up my young kids. I was very thankful the hotel security stopped that quickly. Of course the man or staff didn't clean up the firework mess. When turning on the shower black flakes fell into the tub (not sure what that was). For the price this "experience" was totally unacceptable. read more

Went with friends last week. The service and attention from employees is really good. But they don't tell you when you book that the hotel is not 100% open. So that was the first disappointment. Snapshot charters is not recommended at all. They are just not good and they don't care if you caught fish or not. Spa not worth it. read more

We walked in on a male house keeper exiting our condo at 1030pm while our female nanny and two young daughters slept upstairs - which was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Shame on the management for a practice that allows late night entry into villas/rooms, especially when you can't sufficiently lock the doors to prevent it. Beware of this place. read more

We had to cancel this hotel stay 4th of July week this year due to illness. We booked two rooms, the other for our traveling companions. They were still going. We paid UP FRONT for the first night of both rooms. Hawk's Cay had extreme difficulty only cancelling one of the rooms. Here it is September, and they NEVER refunded our money nor charged the other party/room correctly. It definitely appears we were double-charged. We had the same situation in Key West and that hotel had absolutely no problem rearranging our reservations. We are out several hundred dollars and obviously Hawk's Cay does not give a flip about customer service. On every phone call we made to them, they acted so confused, told us they couldn't help us, and could never even get us to the proper person to help with the situation. Since the Key West hotel was so courteous and helpful instantly, I'm giving Hawk's Cay a big fat F. When we reschedule our trip, we will stay elsewhere. In the villa we stated they never came to take out the trash to bring us clean towels. They are very disorganized at the lobby, no one can help you with questions. This is about their Thanksgiving Buffet, rather than the resort. We made Thanksgiving Dinner reservations for 8. The food was actually good, and there were no lines for the various food tables. The issue was (mostly) the service. They were woefully understaffed for a sold out dinner. We saw our waitress 3 times during the entire meal - she took our drink orders, 40 minutes later brought us our drinks (!!!), and then delivered the bill with a required 18% "gratuity" for the (lack of) service. Unreal. We walked around the place looking for water pitchers to fill our drinks. We grabbed other waitresses at various for things like silverware. The automatic tip was the insulting part of the horrible service. Additionally, the resort thought it would nice to bring in live music. Except they placed the singer in the middle of the restaurant and used near concert level volume. For a family Thanksgiving dinner. Absolutely brain-dead decision on management. You literally could not even talk to people sitting next to you. The resort is nice, but whoever was responsible for the entire (expensive) Thanksgiving buffet should no longer be involved in planning events. read more

It is a nice resort that kids can enjoy with there kids pool to there mini golf, camp that you can drop you're kids of from 1-4, basketball, they have there very own lagoon we're you can snorkel and kayak etc, They have soccer and for the parents they have a tiki bar if you ever wanted a drink. It's right next to the marina and ale house all the staff was friendly. Don't forget you can swim or watch dolphins that they have. The only little factor was they had no heating in the VILLA'S what is up with that! If you ever did not wanna walk they have a trolley system which was a great help! And also they are not closed. We spent a week at Hawks Cay as a family in mid-March and had a great time. The people were friendly and the service was excellent. The all inclusive nature of this resort made it very convenient and relaxing. All charges could be made to our room which made enjoying all of the activities they have to offer very easy, both from an enjoyment standpoint and when it came time to checkout. We very much enjoyed the dolphin experience, snub, massage the lagoon, kayaking, paddle boarding, and hair braiding for the girls. We stayed in Sanctuary Village which was very nice, quiet, and within walking distance of everything. The fire pit in the evenings was wonderful as was the live entertainment. Puglisi's pizza was prompt, reasonably priced and excellent. The ice cream shop was similarly enjoyable. For beaches, we were able to make a very short drive to Marathon and take advantage of a number of nice beaches. All in all, a fantastic vacation location and plan on visiting again. read more

Too bad we wasted time & money to stay here. Should have stayed a few more days in Key West. Not much to do around resort, unless you're into baby sitting other people's kids that are out of control. Eating options very expensive, esp for kids. Snack bar is minimal and many items out of stock. Resort fee doesn't get you much, esp for adults. The area outside of resort is dismal. Some okay places to eat, however, be ready to drive up and down highway hoping to find something interesting to do. Forget this place. PS-reserve a visit to Turtle Hospital at least a day in advance if interested in going to this exhibit. read more

The most amazing place i have ever stayed in Marathon it was awesome loved everything about it and so many people that worked there made it the most enjoyable! Pools were great, food was great and staying out at 1:30AM just listening to the dolphins breathe is so calming you can tell they are well cared for as i was loving just watching them interact with the trainers and play together. read more

We had been waiting to stay here for 20 years! Every time we went to the keys, which was about 5, we said, next time. Finally made the reservation for my husband's 60th, and wouldn't you know, Irma comes along. We of course were cancelled while the resort rebuilt. Came down for another reason to Key West, so we decided to go a day early and at least check the place out for one day. Overall we were pretty happy, almost a Marriott level experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, we arrived at around 12 noon, early for some hotels, but they gave us a room right away. They have a lot of exchange students from other countries working here, Jamaica and South Africa were pretty popular. It was interesting talking to them and hearing about their experiences, and they seemed eager to work and please guests. Most things were newly remodeled and new. The signage around the resort is a little confusing, although there was a map, walking around it was hard to find stuff. The formal restaurant was quite nice and the food rather good with both indoor and outdoor seating. There was a place called the "Marketplace" that had grab and go and 7-11 type stuff, but also offered a breakfast buffet in the am that was quite good. The dolphin experience was amazing, and they didn't fence it off so if you were not participating, you could still watch what was going on with the dolphins. The protected lagoon was a nice clean place to ocean swim, or learn to paddle board or kayak. There was a family pool and a tranquility pool. Our room walked out onto the adult only pool which was nice to sit at in the am before we checked out. Not a fault of the hotel, but we had arranged a fishing guide well in advance from the marina and the guide ended up cancelling due to illness. It would have been nice if they had had another option for us. Fortunately they did not charge us for the trip, and there had been no deposit to refund. Unfortunately we had been looking forward to fishing there since we had seen their resort featured on Sportsman Network. So again, it will have to wait for another time. Will definitely come back and try again. Maybe will bring the adult children. We have a lot of Marriott timeshare, and this resort was was pretty close their quality. read more

Beautiful Place, great setting and plenty of swimming for my grandkids. Not too pricey for the accommodations we had - a three bedroom waterfront condo with plenty of room as well as a great setting! My grandkids swam themselves to exhaustion! Why not 5 stars, you ask? A few things. The brochure touts high speed internet. Not! With 4 pre-teens with iPads, iPhones etc. you can imagine the howls when I told them that dial up speed was the best they were going to get! Not in the condo...not anywhere on the property. I was told by the front desk that they were having technical issues with their wifi setup. They offered to refund the $39 /day facility fee for the inconvenience. At checkout, I had to remind them of the offer. You should check on the progress with the IT department before you book - if this is an important item for you. The cable TV did not work when we arrived. So, just after the wifi revolt, I had to tell the boys that the cartoon network would have to wait too! Here is the good news - literally minutes after I hung up with the front desk we had two techs knocking on our door! They triaged the cable (kids TV first) and made sure all four TVs worked before leaving. Impressive. The food is said to be great. I wouldn't know. Twelve bucks for a cheeseburger is too much for a large group like mine. We left the Cay and ate in Marathon. Speaking of Marathon, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't check out the other Keys. Bahia Honda, 20 minutes to the south is absolutely fantastic if you like white sugar sand and a beautiful setting. The locals are quite friendly throughout the keys. read more

Easy to find, free valet parking (if desired), heated pool, adults only area, very friendly and warm staff, family friendly games/activities held by pool on daily basis, swimming-with-the dolphins held ON location, several grocery stores and pharmacies located within 15 minutes. But now for the negatives: bars close early, restaurants are mediocre (at best), lagoon is a bit rocky... and once you get a taste of the heated pool you gotta wonder if getting into a cold lagoon is really worth it? I'll give this one a fiver based on being the strongest overall resort experience I've had in the Keys. Plus, there's fins right there outside behind the saltwater lagoon (what?!!) and they're extremely friendly. I'm not talking the Ricky Williams type, I'm talking the cool, squeakin' kind that just make you want to dive over the tape that says "premises under video - don't even think about diving over the fence and swimming here" - is that reverse psychology or what? The main lobby is quite posh and has a quiet Keys elegance. Well-designed with a nice waterfall wall, very clean and modern guest services area, great, semi-private sitting areas and decent separation overall within this space. This is the kind of lobby in which you can sit on a comfortable couch or armchair and just enjoy people watching and the smooth ambiance music for hours. Bar to the back right. Pools: very clean and beautiful. 3 to choose from, if you are over 21. (Adults-only tranquility pool and associated hot-tub.) General 50 meter lap pool, very well-managed and laid-out with 2 associated hot tubs. Hot tubs are hot. That's a strong plus. Finally, the saltwater lagoon. (don't go swimming in the boat channel or in the 'fin pool unless you are trying to make your stay short.) Aforementioned 'phins are kickin' it off to the side, stage left behind the capilla (one of two) and the mega restaurant. They must like the mood music because they are always leaping and frolicking around having a good ol' time. Big area. The signs mention that the 3-dimensional pool is roughly 16-18 ft deep in case you feel that the surface area to their pool does not allow for enough freedom to roam. Rooms: good, Ritz-Carlton standard in a paradise setting. Not to be sniffed at. Special accoutrements, nice touches like high-quality lamps, Gilchrest and Soames (sp?) products and mega-hurricane safe sliding glass doors (think that Jim Carrey movie where he whips them open and shut, screaming) block out not only noise, sun's rays but also add to the privacy of the cocoon... The staff is very helpful and attentive. IE: call ahead for your valeted car to be waiting for you. IE: don't want to walk to the gym or spa? golf cart call-ahead and they'll be waiting. Luggage to the room promptly, unpacked, etc. That's the good. HOWEVER, the food here needs a major upgrade. I would like to see a Gordon Ramsey show (Kitchen Nightmares) on this place and see a total turn-around, complete with a menu facelift and scrapping of everything that they have on the menu. The only thing cool about the food is that it all comes in these little bamboo steamer baskets, I guess so that they can sneak it in and out really fast without showing any other diners how little was actually eaten. So, don't come here for eating. Well, breakfast buffet is ok, but not a good deal at $18.95. I'm talking dinner and lunch aren't worth sticking around for - but don't expect too much on the roads close by. Make a drive to Marathon for some real grub. read more

5.11.2012 I have raised my review from 2 to 3 stars. Nothing below has changed except I have heard from the resort manager. He was deeply apologetic and, after frank discussions, I was impressed by his willingness and intent to make needed improvements in staff and room conditions. I will give them another chance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- We stayed in junior suite for 6 nights. All in rate $500.00/night (taxes,25.00/night resort fee[tips]). The grounds were beautiful. However, the adult pool was much too warm. Nice size room, huge balcony, but the layout was not done well. The bed was great, but going to one side would either cause you to be impaled on the bed post or entertain hip bruises from the small dresser that created an opening that would only allow an anorexic to pass freely. Some of the worst lighting I have experienced in a hotel. Natural light was limited due to trees. Low wattage, eco-saver bulbs would lead eyestrain. The whole affect was gloomy. But perhaps not gloomy enough! Lincoln did not sleep here, but some of the carpet and furniture stains dated back to that era. We came in late and unpacked. The next day we noted a paper match on floor; we did not have any. Stains were numerous on the carpet. Management did offer to change rooms but would do nothing to at least spot clean carpet. TV reception was TERRIBLE - especially in the bedroom area; seemed like 1960s rabbit ears would have been an improvement. The front desk's response: that is our cable service ... live with it. No in-room movies; no DVD player available. Room service ends at 11:00AM restarts at 6:00PM ending at 10:00PM ( maybe a sandwich available until 11). One morning we called to have room service pick up and asked for housekeeping service. Housekeeping put the room service remnants outside the door; 12 hours later it was still there! Housekeeping had their own issues. Besides thinking that one wash cloth/day for a party of 2 was adequate ( I later called and asked if the hotel had a shortage); they were so sure of hotel security that they left our door ajar for over 10 hours! I saved this for last. The next morning I met with Lisa the day manager. I reported some of the events above and specifically the "open door policy". I stated that we could have asked the hotel to replace my 17" Mac Book Pro but that was not how we worked; we did not lose anything. I also stated that I thought $500.00/night was a lot for such poor service and amenities. She asked what she could do. It was not until we walked away that I realized the final element of poor service--- she should have offered something, not asked! We left, paying our bill in full. We did nor receive so much as free bottle of water. read more

Hawks Cay Resort has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever experienced in my years of traveling. The lack of customer care, time management and lack of complaint follow ups were mind boggling to say the least. The food would take over an hour and a half to be delivered to the table with not even a blink of an eye as if this was reasonable. When the food came, the side dishes that came with the main course were placed in front of the wrong person not to mention the wrong side of the table. Drinks took 45 minutes to be served at the dinner table. I ordered a drink along with some else at the same time and their drink came 30 min after we ordered and mine never came. I finally asked after 45 min where my drink was and the waitress very casually said, "Oh, it is on the other side of the table", as if I am a mind reader. Not even an I am so sorry or please let me get you a fresh one. This is the service we received for three days. I had lost my keys and called the hotel 3 times with not one call back to let me know if they had found them or not. I am disgusted on how poor their customer service ALL around is at this very overpriced hotel/restaurant. I will never return nor will I ever recommend this to anyone. There are plenty of expensive resorts with great service that can be enjoyed! The beds were uncomfortable and the decor was lacking to top it off. This place is mammoth, and perfect for a couple day family or group two day trip. If you want to stay longer than a Friday to Monday you are going to want to have a car to explore other parts of the keys. Other wise you will be happy to spend all of your time here. The main road to the resort takes you from US 1 into the complex which is on the left, while actual neighborhoods are on the right and also on small Islands further down the road. (The founder of papa John's lives on one of these small islands and his famous car is often in the drive way). We have always stayed in the town houses when we go, which have three bed rooms, a big kitchen, decks, up stairs and down, three bathrooms, and a large family/tv room. From any of these town houses it is a short walk to the harbor, with beautiful views, boats, as all ice cream stand and of course the standard pub. A nice place to take a stroll in the dark hours. There is a pool and lagoon area just outside the main building, which sports two pools, a family and an adult pool for quieter swimming. There is also a small lagoon, surrounded by sand but filled with rafts, kids, and staff. Just past the lagoon is a dolphin area where you can get close and watch them swim in their pens. For a bunch of money you can swim with them but I have not taken that plunge. Through out the complex are tennis courts, mini golf, a volley ball court, all free to guests. You can also rent bikes cheaply and go explore the above mentioned islands. It is fun to go look at the giant houses, and all of the islands are loop roads, so you will not get lost. Be aware that the entrance and exit to each island is a little but very steep hill. Have strong quads or walk you bike. In the early morning hours I have gone for long runs out the front area and along US 1, and have felt safe the entire time, even over long distances. Just head south first. This is an awesome group get away. Bring your own groceries and drinks, and enjoy. read more

As I didn't get to enjoy my Memorial Day weekend this year, I opted for a relaxing end-of-summer getaway instead in August. Destination: I chose Key Largo, FL as I wasn't interested in driving all the way down to Key West this year again. Friends of mine had visited Hawk's Cay before and I liked the idea of the villas, so that's what I chose... I rented a Premier Bungalow Villa with 2 bedrooms and a pull-out couch for 3 days. I made the reservations on the internet through the website and didn't have any issues once I arrived. The villa comes with a full kitchen (microwave, oven, toaster, blender, refrigerator, dishwasher, and all the pots/pans/glasses you could want). As we were trying to save on some things, we brought more than enough food and/or drinks to last the weekend. We were able to store everything in the refrigerator/cabinets and cook our breakfast every morning. Six of us stayed and we were all very comfortable (2 on the pull-out downstairs) and 2 in each bedroom on the 2nd floor. For comfort, we had a half bathroom downstairs and the full bathroom upstairs. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean and we even had a nice balcony, both on the top and bottom floor to enjoy. Our villa had a view of the water and you could even watch the sunset. During the day, we called the shuttle to take us to the main lobby area (where the hotel is) so we could go to the pool and/or man-made beach. We remained here all day in the water and at night went back to the villa to watch TV, shower, and eat. If you get bored during the day, you can go rent a kayak or canoe or even a boat; and if you have kids, they can enjoy swimming with the dolphins (of course there is an extra fee for these type of activities). All in all, great vacation! Definitely didn't want to leave. read more

Visited the resort with my family over Christmas break. Unfortunately, the hotel was not equipped to handle the crowds and overlooked many details. For example, there were no glasses for water in the rooms, no trash in the bathroom and the cleaning crew made a ton of noise early each morning (their equipment closet was next to our room). Quite disappointed. Not work the $$$$ that you are being charged. Nothing included for an all-inclusive price. Crazy! Main issues were the following... The pool and surrounding chair areas are just plain dirty. There are other peoples food crumbs and debris on and around chairs and we didn't see those areas cleaned in the 3 days we were there. Water from the pool splashes onto deck creating puddles of grossness that you have no choice but to step in. Pool and lagoon get filthy throughout day with people's hair, snots, and whatever other grossness - which made me not want to even get into them. The bar cocktail drinks are horrible - every drink we ordered was bad, especially when they put their little added alcohol topper with cheap rum - this ruins whatever drink it is. The group of young people that you have singing everywhere you turn are really not good. The simply don't sing well. It was unbelievable that they were the singers for all different shows and performances that you offer. Every time we turned around, there they were singing again. I am both a singer and piano player, and I can tell you - they are not good singers. These issues really need to be fixed because they are your MAIN attraction! Otherwise, we enjoyed our junior suite room overlooking pool and lagoon - very nice. The dolphin swim was a great experience for our family. We also really enjoyed the kayaking. The fireworks on 4th of July were wonderful. The 61 prime restaurant was very good for breakfast and dinner. read more

This one is a hard one to rate. This is our second visit to this resort. This time we stayed at the private "townhouse" like residences. Upon check-in, I asked about possibly extending my stay by a half a day, thereby checking out at 6pm rather than 11am. Upon check-in I was told residence was available and that I would get a call with the rate. I asked if they could at least reserve it so that someone else didn't rent it by mistake and was told "done deal." We proceeded to our residence. It was basically as per online floor plan, a 2/2. Problem #1? Much smaller than the floor plan depicted. In one of the rooms, the room was so small you couldn't walk around the queen bed without "squeezing" through. It's as if they used doll furniture in the online floor plan. Problem #2? Disgustingly dirty. The point of staying at a residence is the ability to take advantage of the kitchen. Problem is the utensils, plates, cups, etc were disgusting! I mean I would obviously rinse or even wash anything I intended to use anyways but this was bad. I'm talking food still on the fork, in the drawer, yuck! Also, the dining room table was unusable due to the amount of "ant activity". Yuck yuck! Going for a triple yuck? Yep. My 5 year old walked around the residence in his white socks for a few minutes while I unpacked the car. They were black within minutes. Yuck yuck yuck! Three to four hours after we checked in I realized I still hadn't gotten a call regarding the 1/2 day rate. I tried calling the front desk from the residence phone. Problem is NONE of the phones worked. So I called from my cellular. Again promised it was not gonna be an issue but they would have to call with a rate. The next morning we convened at the pool. While the girls got comfortable poolside, I went to the front desk. Surely by now the hotel would have figured out the 1/2 rate. Good news is they had! Bad news is they rented the residence that morning to someone else. Yes. They. Did!!! After a few hours at the pool, my 5 year old began getting hungry. So we proceeded to Ocean to have lunch. They were closed... Opened at 12pm. Closed? This is the only poolside indoor restaurant and they're closed? At a family resort? So, I proceeded to walk around the property, 5 year old in hand, waiting for the 1/2 hour. Ridiculous! Lunch was ok though I hardly touched my over peppered grouper. When asked if I liked it I explained why not. Didn't get a single "oh so sorry" comment. Instead I got billed. Nice! Back to the pool. Pretty nice pool. Somewhat dirty but with the amount of guests I guess they can't do anything about it. The pool surface was pretty bad though with the hair and all... Yuck again! Another issue is pool service. 2 maybe 3 servers for the entire pool? I mean it took forever to get service and once we did it took even longer to get the drinks and/or food. So much so that on our second day I went straight to the bar to order. Not best case scenario but it did go faster. Overall this is not a good vacation resort... Except for the unique ocean like lake in the back. If your kids are into that then I guess this is a "must visit" place. For us this unique area did not matter. Thus, the likelihood of us visiting Hawks Cay ever again are slim to none. Thankfully we have friends that got us a great rate and thus, the experience hurt a bit less. Plus our group was lots of fun and so it was easier to overlook the lack of service this place provides. Note: best part of hawks cay for me is Alma, the restaurant. We went with a groupon special we bought a couple months ago. The resort is beautiful with great pools for the kids and the beach-like pond where the kids can rent kayaks. The room was very clean and cozy but beware we bought and "island view" room but there was no view of the island or water view. When I asked the receptionist she said "oh that's a trick". The service was not great considering the hotel price and rating and the food on the resort is horrible tasting and ridiculously expensive so if you venture just a few minutes drive like we did you can actually eat some great seafood without having to break the bank. Overall we had a great time and would definitely come back again! read more

Outstanding resort on a best location but was very difficult to get both phone or later walk in reservations. Poorly executed management, although some of the staff are very kind and proper but in contrast to them they were a few including the desk supervisor were non responsive and indifferent. We requested to see him but he refused our request to talk to. He seemed to be protected by his staff. We hope these coments help the organization to improove things. read more

Pros: Very clean, well appointed, friendly staff Cons: Food expensive This is my first trip to the keys. I am glad we found Hawks Cay Resort. We stayed in the hotel (the resort also offers vacation homes). Rooms: Our room was clean and well appointed. Rooms have a mini fridge and safe. The bathroom was very nice. Our room only had a shower (a very nice one I might add). The Kurig coffee maker in the room was a nice touch. The hotel supplies the coffee pods. Staff: The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. For instance, I am sitting out on the front porch of the hotel and a bellman walks over and offers me a bottle of water. Activities: There are two pool areas - one for adults only and one open to all. There is also a large saltwater lagoon. We stayed in mid week and never had problem getting beach chairs. Other activities include tennis, volleyball, kids pool area, gym, and spa. You can pay to swim with dolphins, fish, parasail, kayak, snorkel, and other water sports. Food: We ate at Tom's Harbor House for dinner and the breakfast buffet in the morning. Almas is a nice full service restaurant on property that serves dinner. We did not eat at Alma's due to the cost ($40+ a plate). Tom's has a nice view but the food is just so so. The breakfast buffet is very good but expensive ($23 including tax and service). The buffet became breakfast and lunch for us. There is a sub shop close by that is not part of the resort. It is called Deep Dive Deli and is located at the marina a short walk from the resort. Overall the resort is fantastic. We had a great stay. read more

They are either catering to the type of crowd that doesn't care, or management is asleep at the wheel. What could be a great place is marred by the poorly trained staff and facilities that have seen better days. The rooms are large, and there is one bright spot: an adult section of the hotel. Our room and the pool next to it were for adults only. A big bonus since there were lots of children on the property. This is a solid middle market hotel half way to the Keys. Restaurants on the property and the surrounding area are not that great. We ended up driving from MM 61 to MM 88 for a decent meal. The breakfast buffet is nice, but nothing to write home about. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable, although a bit soft...noisy AC and you can hear your neighbors flushing their toilets. Bring ear plugs. read more

Great place to stay. Clean and friendly staff. Pools are nice and food good. The only downside is place is a little small.
