Our first stay out of two visits here we slept in a town house overlooking the Bay Area. It slept 6 people comfortably and had all the relevant amenities including fridge freezer cooker microwave etc. Clean and comfortable place We had a veranda that had a table and chairs. The steps led down to the grass and then to the waters edge. The sun setting behind the arched bridge of overseas highway was beautiful, with an orangey yellow hue illuminating the arches. From gazing at this spectacle my eyes natural dropped down and came back to the table and my friends. Along the way my eyes graced the surface of the water, a wild pod of dolphins breached the surface of the still water with young Dolphins in toe. We thought we were about to here "lights, camera, action!" and we were actually sitting in a movie set. Breathtaking! The second time of staying we stayed in the hotel complex overlooking the pool and tiki bar. We had to wait about 15-20 mins at checkin. All the staff were helpful, really pleasant. The room itself was clean and had a good feel to it. We ate at the main restaurant where our server was exceptional. The food was delicious too. We then headed to the tiki bar for more drinks. The staff there were equally as attentive and welcoming. We drank and played games all evening. It is a family resort so they do close the bar relatively early. The morning came around and my niece and nephew had booked the Dolphin introduction tour. They thoroughly enjoyed it and had beaming smiles they said it was the highlight to their vacation. Which is nice for them. I have my own reservations and opinions about such encounters with wildlife. read more

Fantastic Resort! Here for a conference with coworkers and it did not disappoint. The grounds are immaculate and the service was warm and friendly. Never had an issue the staff wasn't eager to fix. Finding a pool chair? Never a problem. Many beautiful pools, including an adults only one. A lot of restaurant and food choices-- all very fresh and well prepared. Our accomodations were spacious and serene. Overall, this resort should commend everyone who works so hard to make the guest experience so enjoyable. I reviewed what was written about this establishment. I was reluctant to actually book a stay there. Well in the long run I'm glad we did. I appreciated the staff and how they seemed to go out of their way to be pleasant. Also for people traveling through who are disabled I had a great room that accommodated my scooter. I'm sure they have handicap rooms available but I did not ask. I simply ask for a room that was closer to things, like outdoors, restaurants and such. The beds were very comfy and had enough pillows. The food was ample but other than breakfast at Star Bucks we ate elsewhere. I found the menu to be on the pricy side but that's me. All in all the stay was nice. I seen where others had problems with AC but ours worked great. read more

Nice view, good activities, but extremely annoying desk staff/cleaning staff. Arrived early, and was enjoying the kids club with my children, when they phoned me and said my room was ready, early... fantastic! Except after getting keys to room, cleaning staff said the room wasn't ready, so back to the front desk with unhappy kids in tow. Spoke to a clerk who assured me all would be taken care of promptly, waited an hour, and was then told by a new clerk that the room isn't ready, and will have to wait another hour. I'm fine with not checking in early, it was unexpected, but to then pull my kids and I away from a good activity to taunt us with our room availability, and then have it taken away, and then be treated rudely is not acceptable. I will not return. Would recommend you pass on this place as well. For the price, and a four star rating, I expect much better customer service. read more

We had very high expectations for this resort given the amount of money we were paying. Here's my assessment: Employees--at check in, they were rude. Service at the pool and restaurant was friendly. Room- we stayed in a double Queen hotel room, and it was no better than a typical hotel room at any hotel. The sheets were not put on the bead properly, so we had to redo them as to not sleep on the mattress protector. The bath and shower were hard to get into because there was a big glass door on the tub deck, and it was a very big step to get over into the tub. Dangerous. There were 4 of us and only two towels. The walls are very thin. We could hear our neighbors arguing loudly late at night. Food- nothing special. We had breakfast at the one in the hotel. The hashbrowns were similar to a McDonald's hasbrown, and everything was pretty greasy. They did have some gluten free options which was nice but were out of bagels one day. They had plenty of room to seat people most days but would not, so that was frustrating. Food at the pool was decent, but drinks were super pricey. $14 for a basic pina colada with a shot of rum on top. Adult pool and bar- the pool was nice, but the bar closed at 5 which was stupid. The pool doesn't close until 6. Bring your own drinks. Putt putt- boring. No obstacles. Overall cleanliness and appearance- good. The room was clean along with restrooms. They observe Covid protocols with masks and all that. The premises is gorgeous. Overall- I will not stay there again. It's WAY overpriced for the mediocre services and food. Tons of people make it hard to get a seat around the pool bc they are all taken by 9am. Lots and lots of young kids, so a good place if you're looking for that, but bring your extra dollars. I came for work but had down time to enjoy the resort.husband and I checked out all pools ( all great) and played putt putt which was fun, room was cleaned and updated, nice porch, overall wonderful stay!! I just can't give this place more than two stars. The pros: GREAT for kids. I mean, great. So many pools, fun activities- my kids were in heaven. The Cons: I stayed in a waterfront villa. Paid $1800 for 4 nights and the accommodations were less than great. I can get over how small they were but it's hard to get over the fact that it's just dirty. Yes, the cleaners did a great job but the carpets are soiled, walls all banged up, chairs - yep, soiled, as in so bad I didn't want to sit on them. The place needs a paint job and some serious updating. Recycling. What century are we in? There is none on the resort that I could find. When I asked about it, they looked at me like I was the crazy one. Yikes!! Contained dolphins? Is it really humane to house dolphins in a small contained area for their entire lives? It's very sad to watch. Prices. A drink for my daughter (a virgin Tootsie Roll - one menu) was $8.53. Multiply that times the number of kids you have and how many times they will ask you for one - painful. Dinner was no less than $200. The grocery store has a very limited selection, limited hours and is twice the price. So, like I said - if you willing to pay the price, look the other way on most of your stay, I guess you should come here. read more

Two days into a four day stay and will NEVER come back again. Room clearly was not inspected thoroughly upon arrival as there were HUGE bugs in the shower and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers were empty. Place is run down and in poor condition. Still can't believe how dirty the room was and my husband had to pick up a dead bird that was clearly visible laying right in front of our lanai door. Ice maker on our floor not working-day two of being off even though I let them know. Definitely going back to Tranquility Bay next year. Sadly, we were very disappointed. As our first vacation "after covid", we were ready for a great time. Unfortunately Hawks Cay wasn't the place for that. Either they are way understaffed or just don't care about customer service but we could NEVER find a single waiter at the lagoon or pool area. Adult bar closes at 5? On what level does that make sense? Getting a drink at the tiki bar is a chore and makes you feel like they're doing you a favor by getting you a drink you paid more than a few dollars for. The food is mediocre at best and the staff in the marketplace is so ridiculous I thought I was on tv getting pranked. The woman at Starbucks told me she "forgot" to make my coffee after I stood around waiting for 20 minutes. I mean really? It has to be a joke. No maid service which is fine, due to covid, but they should let you know when booking, not checking in. Overall, very disappointing experience except for the fabulous weather every day! read more

I stayed at hawks cay resort from November 1 to 3. I come every year for a seminar held by my wife's company. We always stay in one of the villas. I have been coming for years so I have stayed at all the different areas that the villas have to offer. I must say my favorite is sunset village. The wife and I love to cook for our family. We prepare a meal (most of the time it's fresh catch from what ever I cought fishing that day) and sit in the porch and watch the sunset while the kids eat play after dinner. We always enjoy a nice bottle or bottles of wine and fall in love all over again. We always talk about renting one for a whole week when we don't have a work obligation. As a matter if fact, one day, I will own a villa. That's how much I love this place. They are decorated in traditional florida keys decór. The kitchen has everything you need just bring the food you will consume. The coach with tv. Some villas have a plunge pool, which is just a little pool to splash in because it get hot in the keys. Some people mistake it for a hot tub but it's not. There is and exit in the back that leads to a large field where the shore is and the kids play and fish. The rooms are nice and clean and the beds are very comfortable. I have never stayed in the hotel but we do spend plenty of time there. I love that we don't have to drive anywhere because there is a team that passes quite often to take you back and forth. We live the pool and the lagoon also provide amazing views of the majestic sunsets. We love lounging around by the fire pit with good drinks and some laughs while live music plays. The food at the restaurant ocean is really good as well. There is also a kids area with a playground and basketball court. There is a marina on site where you can dock you boat or charter one out which is what I do. The is a grocery store with everything you need. The items are quite pricer than in a normal grocery store but you figured that would be the case. All in all, this is one of my favorite places in the world. I live in miami and it's only a 1.5 hour drive. I hope to one day be able to buy one of these so I can enjoy this fantasy when ever I please. read more

Just returning from our visit to Hawks Cay. We had a great time. We arrived on New Year's Eve and the resort pool area was packed and they had a pretty good band playing. The place was decorated very festive! We ate at Ocean that night, it was good! A little pricey but that's resort life. The next day we did dolphin connection which is right on sight by the pool. That was fun too (maybe they could throw in one complimentary picture though? I mean it's one click to send it via email.) The room was great and clean and the service was good and friendly despite some other reviews. I think this resort could use a couple vending machines though...Can't get much later in the night to calm a craving! This place was much quieter after the holiday crowds left, nice and tranquil. All in all, it was worth all four of my stars! We also took a few hours and drove to key west for lunch, that was a nice break from resort life! Hope my review is helpful! read more

My husband had a conference here, and on our way I read the reviews. The negative reviews scared us a bit! However, we got here to find a pristine room as well as grounds. The pools were exquisitely clean! Everyone here was extremely polite and friendly. I spoke with several folks from the electric cooperatives, and no one had a single complaint! Our rug had big stains and the bathroom was out dated in its design.The Cottages are very cute, large and a great place for families. You can cook (skipping the high priced restaurant) food. Love this laid back yet upscale resort. It's huge and has lots to do. Because I have 2 small children, we stayed at the Indies Club (the children's area) a lot. This is where they have have bicycles to rent, mini golf, basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer field, playground and 2 of the 5 pools. This place has something for everyone! Every evening we would enjoy the bonfire by the main pool. It was so relaxing, just sitting under the stars, enjoying the music piped through speakers around the resort, and enjoying a cocktail. We ate at 2 of the 4 eateries at the resort. The food is good overall but expectedly overpriced. Service is "island-style" which is a nice way of saying slow but friendly. This time around we had a standard hotel room which is generously sized and nicely appointed. The rooms have tropical dark wood, fresh white linens and large bathrooms. Everything felt new and fresh. Two bonuses in the room: Keurig coffee machines and refrigerators. Last but not least, my family and I loved seeing the dolphins at the resort - possibly one of the highlights of the trip! The grounds are pristine. You'll be happy. We did not stay in the rooms at the resort, so I can not rate the rooms; however we did stay on the resort in a private villa. I am writing this review lagoon side! We checked in for the first few days of our honeymoon and the service was great! We arrived around 5:30 and went straight to our room and slept until about 9:00. Completely exhausted from traveling all day.. We woke up and looked around and began to panic. Yes, we were aware we were on the first floor.. However, the "garden view" is the parking lot view. Seriously, I could keep an eye on my rental car. I went to the front desk to switch rooms and was told they only had a two queen bed room. I must have looked a little disappointed because the guy behind the desk gave it to us for no extra charge. The entire stay was amazing. Customer service was great and the property is beautiful! If I could redo my honeymoon, I would have spent the entire trip at Hawks Cay. read more

By far the best resort in all of south Florida not only the keys! The resort itself is beautiful beyond words. The pools are so convenient with the bar side service and restaurant. The adult pool around the corner for piece and quiet. The new upgrades after the reopen do to hurricane Irma. This is my fifth time back and we rent the sunset villa every time. What a pleasant surprise. Living in Miami, I don't typically stay south of Islamorada and I never plan where I stay - I make my reservation when I'm ready for a nap. I saw Hawks Cay had a good rate on Travelocity but my app wasn't working. I called and the woman who took my reservation was wonderful. She provided me recommendations for activities if I arrived before 4pm check in and was very friendly. The resort is lovely and well maintained. All of the staff was friendly. I will definitely return and would recommend to others - great place if you have kids As well. I may even book a room in advance from now on. read more

My wife and I came for a conference. The conference facilities were nice and comfortable. The food for the conference was ok. The eggs were a little watery most days. The room we had was nice and spacious. It was off the pool. The cleaning crew did a good job daily. They have a lot of activities for kids. There is a separate kid pool and pirate ship waterpark for them. They rent bicycles as well for the family that you ride around the island. There is a craft room, game room, and even a putt putt course. There is an adult only pool and hot tub. There is a saltwater lagoon that you can swim and kayak in. They also have dolphins that you can pay extra to swim with. There is a resort fee that you have to pay to have access to the extras but it does include valet. Most of the staff are friendly but there are a few that need an attitude adjustment. They need to have some better al a carte options for meals. read more

Check in was smooth except the his you with a 200 a day hold just in case you use room service but it will be refunded if you don't. Went to our room which was ocean view and the bathroom was so small for the price of the hotel it was ridiculous. No double sinks. I thought I was in a holiday inn express but that probably would've been better. Pools were small for the amount of people at the resort. My room had mold down the wall from the a/c and on the lamp shade and paint was peeling from the ceiling onto the floor. Due to Covid they don't clean rooms but I didn't even see them clean anything else anyway. Elevator was slimy with fingerprints so just guess what was sitting on the elevator buttons. Ewwww. We were only there for a couple days and the hotel was full so they couldn't change the room. Not a lot of activities for kids if the weather isn't good. Good situation was disappointing. $18 plus for certain drinks. Be prepared to pay here. When we went to check out I had things on my bill I didn't charge. That took a half hour to fix. Here they have the same room numbers in the hotel and villas so the villa charges were on my bill. That just seems like poor management. So needless to say I won't be back. read more

Hawks Cay is an amazing resort with beautiful and lush landscape, lovely pools that are just the right temperature, live music entertainment, great food at the restaurant Angler and Ale as well as the pool Tiki hut. And, fabulous staff everywhere who are helpful with assistance. Jacqueline checked us in for our stay in a Harbor Village 2 bedroom 2.5 bathroom villa; Jacqueline was delightful and friendly as well as helpful. The food and staff at Anglers and Ale and at the Tiki hut by the pool were wonderful. We love walking the property along the docks by Harbor Village villas. Marsha at the fitness/spa facility was wonderful too. We are coming back often and will bring the grandchildren with us. So much to do with man-made salt water lagoon, dolphin connection, 5 pools, free bikes to ride, free kayaks and paddle boards in the lagoon, snorkeling trips, sunset cruise and I can even get my "steps" in everyday walking along the waterways. Had a wonderful time at the resort. We left at the end of the week and we're charged twice for our stay. Since the cost of this resort is not cheap it was an additional $5,000 charge. Now when we are calling about our issue an overcharge no one is around or calls back. My wife and I have called over 20 times on the last week and our issue is still not resolved. Now why would I chose to stay at any place that overcharges you and then doesn't have to courtesy to return or answer calls. read more

Hawks Cay is located on Duck Key in the beautiful Florida Keys. On the outside, Hawks Cay is lovely. There is an adult pool, a family pool, and a little pond that they've made into a beach (for those unfamiliar with the Florida Keys, there isn't much in the way of 'California-type' beaches. There are some beaches, but they aren't really the type where you're going to pull out the beach towel and umbrella.), which was nice. The main check in and out areas are nice, but honestly that's where it ends for the property itself. We stayed in two different rooms. One was a suite--they had apparently had problems with the A/C in the room we originally rented so we had part of our stay in this room, which was nice and they gave us some money off for the inconvenience. The suite was very nice, with a large balcony. There were some little flaws like there being no wash cloths and very little in the way of towels and drying cloths. There was also the matter of 'old dirt'. The room was clean enough, but when you really looked at it you could see that the walls, trim, and doors were in desperate need of a cleaning. The other room we stayed in was a floor level room with a veranda that led out to the adult pool. This room was reminiscent of a mediocre hotel room. The bed was lumpy, there was another issue of 'old dirt', there was a wall or two in the bathroom in desperate need of being repainted, and the worst thing of all was that I could hear our neighbors very clearly. There is a door between this room and the next and it is not meant to keep any noise out at all. I definitely did not want to listen to our neighbors talk about their personal bathroom habits, nor did I wan't to be woken up at the crack of dawn because another set of neighbors were packing and getting ready to head out. These people were not talking loudly, they were talking in normal voices and needless to say I spoke very softly the whole time I was there. Before I move on with this review I would like to mention that we did talk with someone at the resort about these problems, so they can fix them, and they did give us some money off for the inconvenience, so I was impressed with their desire to be proactive in trying to address any problems in their guest's stay. Some of the staff were pretty slow and lackadaisical, but there were definitely some gems. DARCY at the Alma was very friendly, yet professional. PATRICK at the tiki bar was also extremely well fit for his job. Those are the only two I can think of off hand, but I would say that there was a good mix of so-so staff and great staff. I did not mind the automatic 18% gratuity on most things given that I would have tipped them well in any case. The Dolphin Experience was very good and really well put together. I definitely recommend doing this while at Hawk's Cay or even if you're not staying there, still doing this. The dolphins are well cared for and expertly trained. The pools were really nice, and you can get poolside service if you want. I liked that they had an adult only pool to get away from the kids. In the evening you will want some bug repellent. As for on site eating, the Alma had good food and service. The Ocean restaurant as good and not so good. We went there twice. Once to dine in, which was nice and the food was good, though the butter tasted like it had been in the fridge too long. The second was for take out and the staff acted as if we were bothering them with this and when we got back to our room, we realized our order wasn't even made right. We were able to get last minute pizza at the tiki bar one night, though that might have come from the Ocean, I'm not sure. The pizza was nothing special. We went to the Beach Grill for an early lunch. And the food was edible, but not amazing. I was surprised that for a resort there was no place to grab a snack in the middle of the night. My suggestion here would be to have some sort of shop that is only open when the other eateries are closed where people could pick up sandwiches or packaged food. Just a thought. Overall, I would say to try some of the local places over what the resort offers, but if you don't want to leave the resort, they'll do. We also booked a sunset cruse at the Marina, which was nice. The boat captain was friendly. Honestly, I was debating between 3 or 4 stars on this place, but after our concerns were addressed with the resort, I decided to give it 4 stars. My advice would be to shell out more for a nicer room, do the dolphin experience, do something at the marina, go to the tiki bar, and go off site for the food if you can. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would! Do NOT waste your time or money here!! It ruined our ENTIRE vacation. Upon arriving, we walked up to our 2 bedroom harbor villa, to see trash littering the front yard. We entered the villa, and determined they accidently gave us the key to SOMEONE ELSE'S villa, that was still being occupied!! Shoes at the door, beach bags inside, breakfast on the table. Completely dismayed, we went to the front desk and was given a second villa key. Again, we arrived to trash littering the yard of this 5STAR priced hotel. We went inside to let our daughter go in the plunge pool, that she had been talking about the entire trip, to only see the palm limbs and dirt covering the inside of the pool. We called guest services to ask them to clean the pool and trash, and they said they'd send someone right over. Nothing else could go wrong, right? WRONG! We decided to visit the lagoon, the entire reason we booked this hotel, seeing that it was so gorgeous in the photos. Evidently, the photographer forgot to take photos of the trash floating in the lagoon, trash bags in the water, condiments squished in the sand and bottle caps on the shoreline. This place is a JOKE. A COMPLETE JOKE. We went back to the room, 3.5 hours from our initial call to clean room, 4 hours since arriving in the first trashed room, 8 hours of driving to this 'supposed' amazing resort....and nobody had cleaned the trash or pool. We left. Our 5 day reservation cancelled and we headed back home, with a 6 year old crying because she never got her vacation. Hawks cay is AWFUL, DIRTY, CHAOTIC BUSY, and for that price, is a complete JOKE. Do not stay here!!! read more

This is our go to for when we go down to the keys. Very kid friendly and lots of activities for them to not ever be bored. You can rent bikes for your stay. Highly recommend this resort if you're going with kids to the keys. Food is good and they have a few options at the resort. Also good restaurants about 20 minute drive away. read more

Great resort! After driving around the area, it's easy to see that there is no reason to leave the grounds if you're staying here. There was a singer playing guitar last night and after a review was written about how he was in the dark, there is another singer today who is lit up and is front and center! Great night time entertainment while eating, amazing views, great restaurants and service. The lagoon is a bit rough on your feet, I think a bit more soft sand would do the trick. I stayed over at Hawks Cay this weekend and it wasn't what i expected. The staff was really nice. Marquis is the best staff member at Hawks Cay he treated us like family and was very friendly. He definitely needs to be gifted. But everything else except the staff was horrible. The rooms were messy and nasty one of our friends Villa pool had mold in it. Our neighbors weren't friendly at all. We were all having a good time outside our villa at 4 playing music at an acceptable volume and we got the cops called on us 5 times by the same people and the cops said that we were fine and weren't doing anything. read more

Wonderful family vacation! This place is relaxing and beautiful. I don't understand the bad reviews! We came here for a week over thanksgiving with a family group of all ages. Everything was perfect. Yes most of the staff was in training because they were closed for a year due to damage from the hurricane but everyone was nice. We stayed in the patio rooms next to the main pool which were spacious and clean. The fire pits are lovely at night. It would be nice if they offered more breakfast options. The buffet is 24$ a person and there is no a la carte menu. So if you wanted to go in and have just a bagel or a yogurt for breakfast you have to pay 24$ which is crazy. In general very reasonable per night price to stay at property with so much to offer. We would love to return. read more

We stayed from 10/11-10/17. We had a harbor villa floors were dirty one broken TV no dish towels. We asked for towels at least twice before anyone would think of bringing them. We met Don that helps with paddle boards and life jackets by the lagoon, great employee very friendly. Don made our trip. Now for the lady that hands out pool towels by the lobby she had to be worst employee of the place. Always mad about something and VERY VERY rude at all times. Rented an expensive villa ($800 a night or something) and its 5:30PM. Over an hour and a half after check-in time (which is 4:00PM, already late for a hotel). We have two infants in-tow with bath and bedtime looming and still no ready villa in sight. Property looks nice, but I'm not sure how they don't have this figured out. First impressions matter. read more

Awesome place for family vacation or romantic gateway! Lots of fun things to do, great place to relax and make lifetime memories! Very good breakfast at the Ocean restaurant but the other restaurants inside the place are just average! Will definitely go back!!! read more
