Maybe the bartenders, servers and support staff pool tips- because none of them care. They are all rude, smug, and bad at their jobs. EVERY ONE of them i have encountered. This is not an over reaction. They have the WORST customer service this side of the Atlantic & west of the Rockies. They pretend to try, but arent good at pretending eihter. I used to love the locations in England. I wanted to love this place. I gave them DOZENS of chances and guests and I spent THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of dollars at Hawksmoor over the years and this location has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE how to hire AND TURN OVER front of house staff. Must be intentional at this point. No GM & AGM's in the history of hospitality could unintentionally hire AND KEEP so many people that are ALL horrible at their jobs. Even the back of the house is a shame. This place is dreadful in EVERY way. Except the build out. The restaurant is small, but cool. Thats it. The staff ruins it. Over the years since they've opened numerous business associates and friends etc. have wanted to go here. Of late, against my advice... So we go.... and issues ensue. Mo matter what. I have been told several times that they were out of the boneless steaks i ordered, trying to up-sell us to the bone-in or tomahawk steaks- They are 2 or or more times the weight so they are almost 3X the cost and 50% of that weight is bone, fat, and pre-cooked meat weight. I was there recently with friends and 2 of us ordered the largest steak they had a 40+ ounce steak for 2. I know a 20-22 ounce steak when i see one. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME i have been there and ordered a steak and when it arrived it was HALF the size. A 20-22oz boneless steak could come out medium rare and be 18-20oz i suppose, BUT, that steak doesn't come out 10-12 ounces. MORE THAN ONCE i have gotten 10 oz NY Strip steaks and they were supposed to be WELL OVER A POUND. (greater than 16oz). Last straw, this place is bad on so many levels. This breaks our hearts to write, because we were so excited, taking the train and subway from Northport, Long Island, after seeing a segment on YouTube. The presentation of the bone marrow appetizer was visually spectacular. We weren't sure what to expect from our first bite, but the accompanying sourdough toast added to both the taste and consistency. We also found the Mac-n-cheese side a delight with its drier texture and stronger cheese bouquet. However, that's where the praises run out. We both ordered the Sunday Roast, and were really excited about the Yorkshire Pudding, unfortunately, ours was incredibly dried out and dark in color. The beef dripping potatoes were tasty, but very tough to cut, as were the slices of roast. Our server was wonderful and enhanced the experience. I wished I loved this place more. It was incredibly vibey and the service was impeccable but the food was just ok for the price. For appetizers, I had the scallop and Caesar salad. The scallop was good but wasn't incredible for the price point: you're paying for just two pieces and I was sad by how small it was. I've definitely also had fresher scallops for less. The Caesar salad was fine and I appreciated how it had actual anchovies in there. For the steak, I got their tomahawk and it was decadent. It tasted great but I was disappointed by the bone marrow. It had no flavor and just fell flat. Because the meat doesn't come on a hot plate (which they do warn you about), given the sheer quantity of food, it got cold too quickly. By the time I made it to the little fat chunk and wanted to cut some meat off the bone, it was too cold for me to fully appreciate. Overall definitely a treat. To preface, I'm not really a steakhouse person, but the meat & scallops we got at spot were SO GOOD. I would skip the bone marrow as it was very onion forward, with no other flavor. The rib eye was cooked so well, it had a great char on the outside and was not too chewy at all. The crust on the scallops was 10/10. We came for our anniversary and they were so kind to give us creamed spinach and blueberry cheesecake on the house. Came here for a friend's graduation dinner and left genuinely disappointed, which stings because I had high expectations going in. The vibe when you first walk in is great, and I grabbed an old fashioned at the bar while waiting for my table, which was pretty good. We started with Vietnamese and classic oysters, both decent and refreshing, then moved into the tartar and pork belly as appetizers. No complaints there. For the main event we went big, a 44 oz porterhouse and a 16 oz Chateaubriand, and this is where things fell flat. The quality of the meat itself was there, you could tell, but it was so bland. Just meat. No depth, no seasoning, nothing that made you feel like it was worth what you paid. I expected to be blown away and instead I was just sitting there underwhelmed. The sides, mac and cheese, creamed spinach, and fries, were fine, but the fries were honestly the best part of the meal. The fries. At a steakhouse. Service was a whole other issue. My waiter switched mid-meal with zero heads up, and during that transition everything slowed to a crawl. The first waiter was actually solid, so that made the drop-off more noticeable. On top of that, the second waiter's hair kept bumping into me and my friend, more than once, which was uncomfortable and just added to the frustration. The biggest miss though was the halibut. One person in our group doesn't eat steak so they ordered the halibut, and it simply never came out. We only realized it after we had already finished our steaks. When we brought it up, it felt like they had forgotten about it entirely and were just throwing it on the grill at that point. When we said we no longer wanted it, the response was "are you sure, we're about to plate it," which felt tone deaf given the situation. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. The service was unfriendly, dismissive, and felt like no one had any interest in helping us. We explained that we had a simple timing issue with our reservation, but it didn't seem to matter. To make it even more confusing, the restaurant was mostly empty, yet they still made changing the reservation unnecessarily difficult. At one point, even someone from the kitchen walked away looking visibly frustrated, which kind of summed up the atmosphere. It just felt like the staff didn't want to be there. The bar scene did seem lively and had a good energy, but the dining room was a completely different experience. The crowd also felt a bit disheveled and underdressed, which added to the odd vibe. This restaurant is stunning! I got so excited when I realized that there is a location in New York City, because I heard good things about the Sunday roast in London. I came here for lunch, because a friend had recommended their steak frites, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is stunning inside and super spacious. There's a high ceiling and there's also a lower level which is where the bathrooms are. I got the two course lunch special, which was $40 pre-tip and tax, and I got the Caesar salad as well as the steak frites. Both were delicious, and the service was also incredible. One of my friends ordered a steak that was supposed to be medium well, but instead it came well done, and even though she didn't want to make a big deal out of it, I think that a server had overheard, so then someone came over to make sure that the feedback was sent back to the kitchen. We ordered... - Dozen Vietnamese oysters and they were delicious. I think they got confused and brought out a dozen of their natural oysters (which were better than the Vietnamese oysters). They basically said that it was dropped off so just eat them and enjoy. No charge! - Got the Ribeye and Chateaubriand. They were perfectly medium rare. Super tender and delicious! - Crispy beef fat potatoes were fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. But there weren't too many. One per person (there were 5 of us). - Mash & gravy... nothing special. - Mushrooms Diane were delicious! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. - Boston lettuce and herb salad was very fresh and refreshing. - French fries were like every other French fry. They accidentally gave us this as well. So it was comp. Portions are not that big. Because some of us snacked on Taco Bell a little before, it was the perfect amount. However, if we didn't, we would've had to order more. Winter Restaurant Week Review 4/6- Located "across the pond" from their original spot, Hawksmoor is a large British steakhouse that I've been to a couple of times. The first time I was here was back in August for their excellent desserts, which rotate seasonally and match the British menu, and the most recent time was for restaurant week a few days ago. This spot specifically offers it for lunch from Monday to Saturday, with two courses for $45. The place also offers a comparable express lunch menu outside of restaurant week, with 2 courses for $40 or 3 courses for $55, which is a slightly better deal if you don't mind getting 2 oz less of their rump steak and fewer side choices. The service was friendly, and the place is bright and inviting with a nice-looking bar. I didn't bother with a drink, though someone else enjoyed a glass of wine. As with most of us, I went with the main dish and dessert. However, I decided to start with the Ash-Baked Beets Salad with pickled fennel, horseradish, and hazelnuts for $19, which is also part of that menu. There were plenty of beets, all well roasted, and the hazelnuts were lightly toasted, with a nice occasional crunch. My favorite part was the fennel, which added a sour snap. The horseradish was shaved on top, similar to a prime rib, and thankfully wasn't overpowering. This was tasty and worth it. Another person decided to skip dessert and enjoyed the Smoked Salmon with herbed cream cheese and Guinness bread, which is normally $24. Outside of one person who doesn't eat beef, the rest of us decided to order the Rump & Side as a main. This consisted of a 10oz dry-aged rump, 2oz less than the steak on the main menu, which is normally $45. The choice of sides included Boston lettuce salad, lemon spinach, sweet potato, and beef-fat fries. The steak was simply presented, was surprisingly tender for the cut, and was beefy. I went with the fries, which had a good crisp and came with a very different type of ketchup, which was more the British style, as it was much less sweet and much more tomato-focused, which I preferred. It was a good steak, but I have preferred some other spots. Someone else got the sweet potato, which was quite large, and I tried a bit of the spinach, which was decent. Two of the other people there decided to get the Peppercorn, or rather au poivre sauce, for an extra $7.50. This wasn't necessary, but the au poivre was decently flavored with a mildly peppery taste and was a bit less buttery, similar to the side of spinach. The person who doesn't eat beef got the Warm Lobster Roll for an extra $10 with garlic butter and bearnaise, which she liked a lot and appeared to contain a lot of lobster. This also comes with beef-fat fries, and the kitchen was nice enough to substitute them for regular fries. For dessert, there were two seasonal options along with the Sticky Toffee Sundae. I shared said sundae with the Walnut & Whisky Mille-Feuille, with pear compote, whisky cream, candied walnuts, and pear sorbet. As per last time I was here, I find their sticky toffee sundae a bit too cloyingly sweet, but that comes with the nature of this dish, so I can't fault the place. The mille-feuille was excellent, though with a bit of spice, some pear sweetness, and nicely crusty pastry. I tried a bit of the Brown Butter Orange Tart with orange jam, spiced custard, and orange ice cream. This had a complex mixture of bitterness, spices, and sweetness. He found it alright, but I enjoyed it. Compared to our previous visit, the desserts were better the first time we were here. The mille-feuille was previously an outstanding tropical version, and I slightly preferred that texture and presentation. The Pavlova last time also had a citrus base, but was with raspberry and strawberry instead of lemon, and was excellent. Lastly, for non-changing desserts, the Peanut Butter Louis was a bit rich but very tasty. At least from what I have had so far, I would recommend this place particularly for its appetizers and desserts, which are a bit different from those at other steakhouses. Let me start by saying that we were just in London last year and had the most spectacular lunch (dare I say "life changing") at the Air Street location. The food was overall great, but the CHIPS!! Those chips made all other chips/fries in London pale in comparison to these Hawksmoor chips! We talked very highly of those chips in London and recommended Hawksmoor to anyone who asked. So when the hubs and I had the unexpected opportunity to go to NYC for 2 days, we bypassed Luger or Gallagher's to go to Hawksmoor...for those chips! Overall food was great. Caesar salad and scallops for appetizers were great. Ribeye was great, creamed spinach was great, sticky pudding and peanut butter Louis for dessert was great. The chips....not so great. We started out by asking our server if the chips on the menu were the same ones that were in London and he assured us they were so we made sure we ordered the right ones. The other potatoes on the menu he described as "hash browns". London chips were fat, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. NYC chips were just thin cut fries! McDonald's fries were better. The disappointment in my face stayed on the whole day! For the record, this review would've had less stars had it not for (who we think was the manager) come to us after our meal and discuss how the NYC location did change the way the "fries" were made. If I could give this place a zero star review I would. I visited the restaurant twice. The first time everything I ordered was sold out for the night. The waiter didn't let me know until the order was put in. I let the waiter know that I had a specific food allergy. After they gave us the food the waiter came back five minutes later to let me know that what I was eating had my specific food allergy. The second time I came, we ordered a 34 ounce portion of steak. When the food arrived, the portion looked more like a 28 or a 26 ounce. I ended up going to a restaurant afterwards with the people I came with because we're still hungry for our meal. We spoke to the waiter and explained to them that we ordered a 34 ounce and they claimed that it was a 34 ounce. As we're leaving the assistant manager said the next time you'll come will give you free drinks. There is never be a next time. We ate in a private room in the back which was comfortable and presumably less noisy than the main dining room which was packed. The steaks were amazing. Great meat, cooked to perfection. First time dining here, in my neighborhood, not a big red meat eater. But having a Restaurant Week Lunch at Hawksmoor after viewing the Bourdain biopic sounded like a great way to spend a day. This lunch was the best meal I've had all year. Nice room and bar, not noisy. Comfortable seating. A generous RW specially-priced cherry Negroni was exceptional (and I'm a vodka drinker). Why not have a cocktail midday, we asked. Why not, our server said, and we all laughed. Best scallop (appetizer) I've ever eaten. Perfect medium rare sliced steak, tender, flavorful-- I want this again. We shared a dessert but the friendly Julian brought us a second, a pudding that was addictive. Servers Ornela and Julian were perfect, comfortable, helpful, generous. Love this place, and I love only a few restaurants. I think Hawksmoor offered the best of what Restaurant Week is all about. So glad we tried it. We'll definitely return. And they restored my affection for RW and steak. read more

Went back for the Notorious B.E.E.F burger deluxe (that adds fries and a sneaky Pete ginger drink). The burger and fries were good (fries are aiming for the MacDonald's flavor and are very close to target) and the burger is substantial and close to a Big Mac in structure and taste. I plan to go back again this week with a different friend. My only complaint is the significant charge $7-$10, for bread. The bread is ok but not worth the cost especially for the initial basket. The decor at Hawksmoor NYC is on point; warm lighting, rich wood accents, and a classy atmosphere at first glance. Unfortunately, that's where the positives mostly end. The tables are packed so tightly together that it feels cramped, and the noise level is so high you practically have to yell to hold a conversation. The steak was lackluster, with uneven fat distribution and very little marbling. Presentation was also underwhelming. The creamed spinach had an odd rosemary flavor that didn't really fit, and the mac and cheese was heavy and extremely stringy. Some might enjoy that, but it wasn't for me. The Vietnamese oysters were a bright spot with unique flavors that complemented their brininess nicely. The scallops were over seasoned but still decent. The bone marrow was disappointing, too fatty and buried under caramelized onions, which completely overpowered the marrow flavor. The accompanying toast was burnt and hard. The Old Fashioned was weak on bourbon, and while the lobster tasted good, it was heavily seasoned and overpriced at $140 for about a 1.5-2 lb portion drenched in rosemary garlic butter. For a $650 dinner for two, I expected far more. Between the noise, uneven execution, and inflated prices, I'd rather stick with the classic NYC steakhouses that consistently deliver. read more

We've visited Hawksmoor over 5 times both as a couple and with friends. The vibe is always great- especially on weekends when it's less corporate. We decided to change it up most recently and ordered the surf and turf which was delicious. The black toffee pudding is a must have dessert every time. Overall Hawksmoor is consistently excellent for atmosphere and food. read more
