So these guys did a beautiful job on my nails. I have no negative things to say about the quality of their work. However, I called and asked what a set of acrylics would cost me before I came in. They told me $50. But when I went to pay, $95 is what they asked me for. So with tip I spent over $100. I'm sorry, but this is WAY beyond misleading. I literally paid double what they told me it would cost me. I feel like that's borderline criminal. I felt like I should tip my nail technician because she did a very nice job. But really I'm upset with myself for tipping anything after having to pay twice what I was told I would pay. It makes me feel like an idiot. So please just know that asking them anything about their prices is not a good way to determine what you're going to end up paying. read more

Overall I really enjoyed how my nails looked, the color, the shine, and the length. What I did not appreciate as much was the service I encountered during my time at the salon. The worker who did my nails, I believe their name was Anna, was rough, Intense and not upfront about the price of the service. I do want to include that I am no stranger to getting my nails done, I have been going to a salon once or twice a month for almost 10 years now. However, with most salons they are transparent about the price of the service or tell you about extra costa before you begin your service. When I walked in I asked the person at the counter if I could get a full set. I have gotten a full set at other salons in portland and not been charged extra for gel or not gotten gel. Typically with gel they give you a specific board of color options or a key ring of colors that are different from standard polishes. The color I picked was among all the options and so I didn't know, nor was I told, it would be gel. Once I landed on my color, Anna started doing my nails. It was going well and felt normal until she started to hold my hand flipped from me, essentially twisting my arm for long periods of time while she filed, cut or put the nails on. The service in total rook 1.5 hours, which is fine but felt longer than necessary. At some points when she was drilling my nails down (a process done before applying the glues and fake nails) she drilled so close to the tips of my fingernails it was pressing into my skin. I flinched because it hurt, she didn't ask if I was ok and then kept doing it. I even told her "ow that hurt after she did it for a 3rd or 4th time. After we were done with nails, they made me buy a nail file and buff because that's standard in Portland and I was fine with that. What I wasn't fine with was the fact that there was a hair in the bag they gave me. The nail tech opened the bag multiple times ro use it he file and never even tried to remove the hair before giving me the bag. Again, my nails look great, there was nothing wrong with how they came out but being charged $20 more than the listed price, having my arm twisted and my pain not being acknowledges really dampened my experience at the salon. They made me feel comfortable and welcome (even though I was pretty late- ) I was given a complimentary bevvy upon arrival- which is always a nice way to start self care. They have an awesome array of colours- I got a 'chrome' pink and it's seriously one of the best colours I've ever had The first pic is at the salon, the second about a week later when I added some cute decals- notice my nails look like they were just done. There's a little crack in the thumb, but that's because I am a total klutz and shut my thumb in a door. It's actually amazing it held up as well as it did Anyways- high recommend- 10/10- will be back. Oh! I wouldn't recommend as I paid for a full service deluxe pedicure $62 and I didn't get my own technician the lady went back and forth between my friend and I so I feel like I didn't get full service and periods of being too hot or too cold and there was a deficient language barrier so I didn't get answers to questions and my hang nails didn't get trimmed off my polish job was less than perfect. read more

Came here excited for my first manicure ever. I don't think the owner realized I was Vietnamese and understood Vietnamese. She made comments to the other workers about my sexuality and made a comment about how cheap I was on my tipping despite tipping 20% after hearing her comments. The other workers were lovely and pleasant and did a phenomenal job on my nails... but the owner really disrespected me and was unpleasant. This place has gone downhill and I'm upset. I've been coming here for nearly 3 years but recently they don't honor appointments at all!!! Recently they had me wait over 20 minutes. Yesterday I had a 4 PM appointment when I arrived they weren't ready for me so they talked me to getting a pedicure. This person who did my pedicure cut my cuticle so short on one toe I was bleeding and I'm in extreme pain and limping. After the 45 minutes it took for my pedicure they told me I have to wait an additional 40 minutes for the person I had an appointment with to do my nails. Why didn't they call me and tell me that they were running late? Why didn't they tell me this rather than buying time by having me invest in a pedicure I didn't need which ultimately injured me only to have me waiting additional 40 minutes that's almost 2 hours of running late???? Bad management! And zero integrity! They collect your name and phone number when you make an appointment but appointments mean absolutely nothing. That's because they take a walk in appointments off the street and if you had an appointment well that's just too bad you're gonna have to sit there and wait. I'm really disappointed that I'm gonna have to find other places to go and get my nails done. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing of a job they did here !! I got a gel manicure, it's been six days, and it still looks brand new. I picked this place because it had good reviews, these people must have been paid for their reviews. I made a 530 appointment for my friend and I to get mani pedis. She had to wait over 20 minutes for a tech to get to her, and then another tech realized that the original tech who did my pedi did regular polish not shellac. She redid it and apologized, not a huge deal because my friend and I then finished at the same time. However, it was well after 7pm by this point and I said I needed to get going. The tech insisted the manicure would only take 30 minutes, it's now 830 and I'm just leaving with the worst dip job I've ever received and will be going back to my original salon this weekend to get it removed. The tech clipped way too close to the nail bed and didn't clean up the dip so my nails are stuck to the skin. I asked her to clean them and she looked at me like I was crazy even though that's part of the normal process. Steer clear, this place is a MESS. Would give negative stars if I could. read more

As soon as I got there the person I was working on my pedicure made my tub of water too hot and then to cold and kind of gave me a vibe that wasn't very comfortable or friendly. She kept talking to the owner and was not very friendly. I'm sure there's a language barrier however I had a guide her and how to address my toenails and it just seem that she was more focus on massage than actually working on my toes. She took way too long working on my calves I asked for a pedicure not for a calf massage. By the end I was it was so rushed she kept messing up my toenails by putting the light lamp on the wrong way and i insisted it was it was my fault. I know where my toes are located. I had to keep moving my toes because she kept messing up like I know where my toes are. It was such a waste of my time I wish I never went. Offering to redo to my toes again is taking too much time it's been along time since I got a pedicure and it was just too much time to go back to someplace that I wasn't comfortable in. read more

Just went in today after far too much time reading reviews. I'm really happy with my decision to go here finally. I got a mani from Hannah and she did an amazing and quick job. Not only that, but she was precise and took so much care the whole process through. She was often stopping to grab or snip a loose piece of nail or carefully touching up the parts of polish that bled over my fingers. Excited to have hopefully found a place to return to! I recently moved to this area and decided to get a mani/pedi here based on Yelp reviews. I am so satisfied! Hawthorne Nails is a small, hole-in-the-wall shop, but don't let that discourage you. Seriously, the employees are wonderful. They paid a lot of attention to the work they did today, and I received quite possibly the best foot massage of any nail salon I've been to, and that includes here in Portland and my hometown of Indianapolis. Another reviewer said they didn't have a large selection of color, but I thought they had a normal selection with plenty of colors to choose from. They also have gel polish. Their chairs are comfortable and look newer. The spa-like music they played was relaxing. The prices were right, which made me very happy. They gave me ample time to dry and I did not feel rushed.
