Was recently working somewhat close to one their locations (45 minute drive from hotel). I had recently purchased a set of tires locally where I live (Charlotte NC) and had not driven the truck much to notice my tires were out of balance. I had tried to get my truck in somewhere along my drive from Charlotte to Charleston with no luck. I had got in touch with 4WP out in Charleston but they were busy the following day, but reassured me and referred me to a shop that could relate and address my concerns in a professional manner. Please keep in mind, I have 35" tires on my truck..... So I call, make an appt and arrive, I was quick to address my concerns and that I would prefer to have a Road Force diagnostic balance done on these tires. I was assured by staff that it would not be necessary and proceeded to let them balance my tires. Upon leaving I noticed nothing has changed in the ride but became a bit more aggressive compared to how it originally was. I had tried to call as I was trying to return and did not get an answer. I did however get a call from them saying I forgot my wheel lock. I returned, again addressed my concerns and noted about using the Road Force machine to which they replied " the machine isn't any different than the others" and again they pulled the tires off, balanced and done. They did not dispute or attempt to charge me more but I did ask what do I do if this isn't fixed..... Needless to say they were still unbalanced and with a phone call and confronting them I was welcomed with hostility, I expressed my concerns once again to which they replied that mud tires won't even fit on a Road Force machine , my wheels are bad, my tires are possibly bad to even discounting the reputable shop that referred me to them in the first place. I will say they did offer me my money back which is strange because when it was mentioned they said their computers were down..... before they were even closed. With that said, keep the 43 bucks I gave you! You did balance them after all I guess.. I'll take that as a an paid experience with your business. I love local but right now I'm a little dissatisfied with the customer service I received. There were some real highs and some real lows. I got 2 sets of tires from tirebuyers.com and had them delivered there because I use Hay often anyway. There were issues on my side and Hay's and Tirebuyers but Hay could have done better to make it not such a pain. I got 2 sets and they called me and told me one set was in and the person on the phone told me it was for my BMW. I brought that car and had to go trade cars because it was my Suburban. Their fault. I got the Suburban and tires were wrong size(tirebuyers fault). Half a day wasted but ended up getting other tires right away with tirebuyers.com(good service) and returned the other tires. Brought the Suburban in and they got them on but they did take a little longer than I needed but they also made an exception to get me in late on a Friday so good service. 2nd set was delivered on Monday. I called them and found out they were there(they should have called me). I brought the car by and they said they would drive instead of me walking back to my office. After waiting 10+ minutes I walked which only takes 10 minutes. When leaving they verified my number with me and they still had an incorrect number in there he was taking out. I had to call later and they said they were about to call me to let me know not ready because of need for another service. I was ticked off but took an Uber home(I love Uber). I called late the following day and they said they tried to call me and number discontinued. Yes, that was the number they were deleting from system. I don't know if they would ever have called me. In fairness they have a new system that they are not used to yet. And I think that may have caused most of the issues and my tires are awesome and seem to have been put on correctly. So I will probably use them again and HOPE they are used to the system and are a god bit better at their customer service next time. read more

I was in town with a sports car rental. Had the unfortunate luck to drive over a screw and get it lodged in a very expensive run flat tire. Most places won't touch them it seems. The rental place would have loved to charge not only for one but both tires as they're supposed to change them together I'm told. $600. Cut to Hay..friendly phone conversation, respectful front desk operation, and an hour later the tire is plugged and I'm on the road for $60!! 1/10 of what it could have cost had I been raked by the rental company! Caught them on a bad day; highly defensive response. I brought my vehicle in (Friday AM) for new tires and diagnostics for a specific braking problem. At the end of the same day I called them and was told it was ready for pick up. I asked about the brake problem and was told I would be called back immediately with an answer. No call (1). Late the next morning I received a call that it was the master cylinder. I went to get the vehicle and (2.) the tires were not positioned as requested (white letters facing in), although it was written on the order. Also, I had asked for the one good tire from the old set, for use as a back-up spare; not provided (3.). I asked for specifics about the brake diagnostic but was told the mechanic and salesman had a language barrier (4.). When I expressed my concerns, another front salesman began defending the salesman I was dealing with (who was *not* being attacked). The original salesman apologized and said yesterday was just a crazy day. The other salesman offered to waive the $60 installation fee but continued being defensive while minimizing each of my concerns (5.). When I attempted to clarify my concerns, that salesman told me I was 'rubbing his face in it'. I therefore stopped speaking, giving him the 'last word' at which time he lectured me about my concerns for what was an unusual amount of time (during the lengthy payment process). Then, I had to request a receipt, which added to the time I had to hear the other salesman 'set me straight'. The price on the tires seemed like a square deal. Worst costume service. Made an appointment for 10 am. The tires that I ordered 2 days ago weren't there. Had to come back 3 hours later. Still waited around while they serviced other people's cars. If you dont want pissed off customers, show a sense of urgency when applicable. read more

I cannot say enough great things about the folks here. In addition to having four new tires installed, I had quite a laundry list of other things for them to complete/check while my vehicle was with them. They never once made me feel like I was being a nuisance. Every single person I spoke to throughout the process was incredibly helpful and sincerely happy to speak to me. I definitely felt like they genuinely valued my business. I went in with a flat tire, and had been told by another company that my "run flats" couldn't be patched. The folks at Hay checked the tire, pulled the screw out, plugged it, found another screw in another tire, fixed it and got me going for not too much money. Went here for a second opinion on my tire. They diagnosed the nail in my tire within a half hour after the dealership couldn't in an hour and a half. However, were unable to fix the problem today. I am moving out of state tomorrow so I need my tire fixed. I had to go elsewhere. They didn't charge me for the visit or their honesty. One of the problems with a local business is that there is no accountability when a problem arises and a manager and front desk help is dismissive. For that reason, I urge you to steer clear of this place. Over the years I have spent thousands here while in Charleston. This week I arrived to pick up a car to find a bill for minor repair far exceeded what I thought it would be, not a vast amount, but a surprise nonetheless. When I questioned the bill, both of the mature desk clerks acted annoyed and bothered, sighing when questioned and staring blankly in their computer screens rather than address a customer with a problem. I paid the bill and asked for one of the owners to call me. To date, no call has been received. Hay Tire needs to refocus and engage a customer service coach. In this age, every customer matters and successful companies recognize this. read more

Recently got my oil changed here. They found that my radiator cap had broke, causing my coolant to run dry. It was a simple fix and saved me money in the long haul. "Hamp" was very helpful in explaining other issues that they saw with my vehicle. He never once pushed or pressured me to get them done. He actually told me not to worry about some of them for now and just to get the major issue of the radiator cap fixed. He was very helpful and honest and I will go back to Hay Tire's in the future. read more

Went in to have my tire patched. I was told there was a nail in the side wall of the tire therefore it could not be patched. Unable to wait for them to order a tire, I went to Gerald's. There have been several times over the last few years where I attempted to leave the house only to realize that I have a flat tire. Normally, this would send me over the edge, but the guys at Hay Tire have always treated me right. I bought a set of new tires from them as well. Their prices are fair (they are locally owned too!!), and the quality of work has been fine. They might not be quite as cheap as a warehouse club or a mass retailer, but I really like the fact that if I had a problem with thier work or with my tires, they would actually try to help in any way possible. read more

I only had to spend a small amount of time with my mother in the waiting room and I got the nail extracted from my tire, if that isn't a two for one deal I don't know what is. The guys were super helpful and really respectful, because after I was lectured by my father for 2 hours to NOT BUY NEW TIRES ONLY PATCH THE LEAK, I was expecting to be bombarded with the service men telling me I needed a new set of tires because I'm a blonde girl who knows nothing about cars, yet is in one everyday. Bought four new tires (Kelly Edge A/STires) for my 2012 Jeep Liberty. When I was selecting what I wanted, the associate walked me through the options based on price/performance for what I was looking for. Of the options presented I selected the mid-range option vice the more expensive options, based primarily on input from the associate. When I discussed and seriously considered the more expensive option, instead of even pushing me that way or letting me go there (I was leaning that way) he instead gave me frank, honest input - indicating he did believe the more expensive option would give an even better ride on highways, at faster speeds, but if it were his vehicle he'd opt for the lesser expensive Kelly Tires and the ride would still be very good. With the money I "saved" I got a needed oil and filter change (100% synthetic) and purchased the extended milage Road Hazard insurance on the tires and still ended up spending less than I would have for the more expensive tires. Oh and now 1,000 miles later - the vehicle still rides like it did when it was new. Thanks Hay Tire Pros and Kelly Tires. read more

My son graduated from CofC and stayed in Charleston to work. On 28 Dec 2015, my son truck's brakes were completely gone, which required a tow and complete rebuild. I'm in Virginia and I spoke to the gentlemen at the Mount Pleasant location. It's after the holidays and money was tight. Hay tire understood our situation. Not only did they keep it under budget, but I was able to get the oil changed as well. They even took the time to mail me the receipt to me in Virginia. This is an absolutely true story and just happened to me March 23, 2009. Hay tire is probably OK for oil changes but that's about all I would take my car there for. Last week one of their sales team claimed I need new rotors, pads on my Honda Odyssey. This sounded suspicious so today, March 23, 2009 I went to Jerry's Automotive (the only place I trust in Charleston) and bottom line, the guy from HAY wasn't even close - they we're totally trying to sell me COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY WORK. HAY asserted my rotors we're 85% warn and I needed new pads. When the guys from Jerrys showed me my pads and rotors we're absolutely fine, I had to report this online so others know about it. read more

If you want tires, break work or an oil change this place is alright, but do not let them do anything complicated. Their work left me stranded once more than two hundred miles away. When I went back they reimbursed me to my satisfaction, but they could not make up for all the inconvenience. Another time they misdiagnosed the problem and told me it would cost me almost $1,400 to fix it. I went to a hole on the wall that was recommended by a friend, and I showed them the estimate. To wish they reply: "If that is the problem we can do the work for less than $1,000." They checked the vehicle. They told me it was something else, and that it would cost me less than $300. They did it. No problems and it has been two years. read more

Got low pressure warning light coming back from Mt Pleasant and pulled into Hay. Picked up a screw in a tire and wasn't repairable (plus greater than 49k miles on tires) so needed to put new tires on. They were "run flat tires" and would take a couple hours to get in store. We figured we would take in a movie and when the owner found out that the courtesy vehicle was out and wouldn't get back in time to drop us off at the theater in time for the movie start he actually gave us the keys to his car and told us to enjoy the movie. Got back a couple hours later and a short wait while the car was finished up. Unbelievable courtesy in this day and age for any business. Felt like a member of the family and received great treatment from everyone there. Service writer even put in an extra call to make sure the tires had been put on the delivery truck before we headed off to the movie. read more

Picked up a nail in a tire. One well known local tire store, Gerald Tire, looked at it and said they could plug or patch it, but were very busy and it'd be a while--Saturday. I went down the road to Hay where I've done some business in the past. Hay said I needed a new tire because nail was too close to side wall. Took the car to place I've bought tires for over 30 years in West Columbia on Monday. No problem, no charge. Two out of three, tire companies were willing to fix the tire while Hay wanted to sell me a tire. Not much incentive to to use Hay. read more

Stopped in yesterday to have an alignment done on a dodge charger. Steering wheel was pulling slightly to the left. The work was done pretty quickly. I asked to see the printouts before and after they did the alignment. The person at the front desk didn't show me either. He told me they couldn't get the printout after the alignment was finished, he said the computer wasn't working right. Something sounded fishy too me. When I left the vehicle's wheel pulled even harder to the left. I called back and told him the issue I was pretty upset. I went back and he told me the techs that do alignments had already left or something and he didn't mention it too me. I spoke with the tech that did too it. looked like they put the slacker on the job. He told me the car needed a part to really get it aligned well and dodge didn't make the part. I looked up the camber adjustment parts in two seconds on google when I left. The whole experience left a terrible taste in my mouth. Seems like I was b*ll sh*tted 2-3 times in one visit. I will never go back. I will say they did give me my money back. They probably do a good job on easy to deal with vehicles and with easy jobs like changing tires I wouldn't bring anything tricky in too them. read more
