When I eventually got to the front I was rung up by said younger lady, she has several facial piercings, dark glasses, and despite the obvious stress and chaos going on around her served every customer with a smile. I had a few questions when I eventually made it to her and was worried that I would be rushed or brushed off but she answered every one throughly and even made some small talk about my plans after which is a dying art in restaurants nowadays. Ordered the French dip with an iced tea, food did take a while to come out but the cashier did let me know they were a little behind which I didn't mind. Sandwich was delicious and was actually bigger than I was expecting which is never a bad thing. Fries were a little lacking, definitely tasted like they were frozen so probably going to try a different side next time. Honestly my entire time in the restaurant it felt like every person they hired was truly focused, no one was sitting in a corner and talking. From the bussers to the bartender to the cashiers to who I assumed to be the manager, everyone was trying their hardest to make sure the guests were happy which makes a 20 minute wait for food feel much better. On my way out I got a "have a nice day" from the cashiers which was truly the cherry on top. The second round was better, with a nice crispy edge that made that satisfying crunch when you squeezed it. Really good with the butter, though if the butter had been just a little saltier it would have been perfect. Beef Carpaccio ($32): Good but average. The individual components were all there but the dish felt like it was missing cohesion. The black sesame parmesan tuiles were a standout though. Georges Bank Seared Sea Scallop ($49): Three huge scallops cooked phenomenally. The mushroom risotto was a bit al dente and on the saltier side, and the mushroom flavor didn't come through as much as I would have liked. The squid ink beurre blanc was lovely though and really brought the dish together. Despite the risotto I would still order this again just for those scallops. Duck and Foie Gras ($46): The duck was cooked beautifully and the foie gras wasn't too heavy, just the right amount. I loved the strawberry arugula salad that came with it. The pairing worked really well overall. I personally didn't think butternut squash was the right puree choice but my husband disagreed and absolutely loved this dish. Wait, what??? I thought to myself, nobody offered us (a black couple) any complimentary champagne. A different person came to the table to take my credit card and I asked him about it.
