We had a partial kitchen renovation project in early 2025, and gathered 5 bids. We decided to hire Istvan and Damien from HBZ for our renovation project, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From the very beginning, they ran a very professional operation. They were consistently on time and showed great respect for our property and schedule. They worked with us to help gather all the materials even before accepting any deposit or setting any work schedule; we appreciated them waiting to schedule the work until we had everything on site. We especially appreciated their reasonable attempts to contain dust throughout the project and their consideration for our pets and young children. Communication was excellent; they were always responsive to our texts and emails. The initial estimate of cost and timeline was accurate, which we greatly valued. During the decision-making process, Istvan and Damien worked well with us, even when our amateur homeowner ideas were a bit unconventional. They offered combined suggestions and problem-solving without ever being condescending. While HBZ provided valuable advice, they were also respectful of our choices and not pushy about which solutions to implement. It was a bonus that they were able to perform electrical work and recommend improvements, streamlining the process for us. We were particularly impressed with their creative problem-solving when we presented them with a nonstandard countertop idea for filling the void left by the range removal. They carefully listened and discussed how to approach the installation, and the beautiful butcher block they merged with the counter looks like it was always there. Their ingenuity extended to reusing reclaimed cabinet material to build a perfect endcap that seamlessly matched our existing cabinetry. When we realized we had purchased an upper cabinet that was too small after it was mounted, HBZ was incredibly accommodating of our mistake and re-did the work with a larger cabinet without losing any time on the overall project delivery. We also appreciated their commitment to sustainability; HBZ worked to reclaim as much material as possible and gave us the opportunity to keep usable materials. They left the work site quite clean upon completion. Beyond their excellent workmanship, Istvan and Damien were interpersonally easygoing and kept the job upbeat. I have done several renovation projects over the years and have never been more pleased and satisfied with any other contractor. Look no further than HBZ LLC. We couldn't be happier with the end result of our project. To many contractors, I would have been a nightmare customer. I had to completely renovate a rental condo that was ten years past the time it should've been done. What started out as a fairly straightforward project turned into a nine month ordeal due to discovering more and more things that needed work while managing unanticipated demands and conflicts from the Homeowners' Association board. From cutting in to the concrete to framing the room to pouring concrete and self-leveler to drywall and paint, Istvan delivered stellar work and we could not be happier. PART ONE: Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with this company and I had to fire them from the project due to UNSATISFACTORY work as well as this company being very unprofessional and disrespectful to me, my home, my belongings and even my neighbors. I hired HBZ to install an IKEA kitchen, remodel 1.5 bathrooms, put in new tiling in the entry way and laundry room, remove old washer/dryer, install baseboards, and renovate gas fireplace with tile surround and new mantel. I asked HBZ if they were familiar with IKEA kitchens as many contractors I had talked to declined to do IKEA kitchens, but HBZ told me they were familiar with IKEA kitchens. Unfortunately HBZ lied to me about what their capabilities upfront were as it was pretty apparent that they had no experience with IKEA kitchens and their nuances with drawers, cabinets and various cover panels. I had to make multiple trips to IKEA to get their assistance and take photos of how the kitchen was supposed to be done as HBZ was absolutely clueless. They made multiple mistakes in assembling the kitchen but had they been familiar this wouldn't have occurred. HBZ was very messy and they basically trashed my home-there was food wrappers, candy wrappers, melted chocolate on the hardwood floor, leftover lunch bags, empty cans, drinks, cups, bottles and food and coffee spills ALL over my home. Really gross. One time I went over there and there was smashed garlic all over the kitchen during install. The days that both the new toilets were installed, I went later and there was poop sprayed all over both the toilets, on two separate days!! Disgusting! I had to go every day and pick up their mess. They can trash their own home, but very unprofessional to be trashing their clients home. Their excuse was that I wasn't home which is very unprofessional seeing as this is my home and not theirs. HBZ was very disrespectful of my belongings: they opened up every single box that was delivered to my home, so parts went missing, became damaged, or they were strewn all over. I even texted or sent an email, don't open box please! Or FYI, other furniture is being delivered with the kitchen boxes. Then I go there later in the day to find said box is open. Very poor communication. If they were familiar with IKEA kitchens they would understand that PAX and HEMNES are not part of an IKEA kitchen but they still opened the boxes. I changed my mind on the sink (basically because I was not confident they could install it properly!) and told them that it was being returned. I go later and the box for the sink to be returned is opened! They even assembled my brand new desk and were using it as a work table so it ended up having lots of scratches on it. I asked for them to bring the washer/dryer outside so I could donate it. They brought the dryer outside, but they ended up using the washer instead as a work station for the saw and got sawdust all into the washer to be donated :( I asked multiple times for them to bring the washer outside for donation, but my request was ignored. At one point, they told me that they would be using the washer for parts! Luckily I was able to ask the new appliance company to bring it outside for me. I even had to request they not use the new fridge because I was worried they were going to get food all over my brand new fridge based on their past messy behavior!! We hired Istvan and Team for a complex project including kitchen, bathroom renovation and general handyman work. HBZ was able to efficiently problem -solve, work with materials providers, and get all varied work done in a timely fashion! 1. We had had a kitchen leak and the team was able to restore cabinets and retile the floor, ordering custom cabinet parts to match the rest of the kitchen. They replaced insulation in the crawlspace. Once completed, it looked exactly like before and you couldn't guess there had been any damage. 2. In a bathroom, they removed existing tiles to enable drying of the area (by a drying company) due to water getting trapped under tiles. Once the drying part was done, HBZ installed new tiles of our choice in a stylish arrangement. They'd offered a few options for tile placement and we were delighted with the outcome! They also gave feedback while we purchased the tiles so we felt more confident with the process. 3. They moved our new washer into a pan in our upstairs laundry room as it had been sitting outside of the pan, and they had to move piping to reinstall the applicance. This was something the appliance seller had been unable to do, but HBZ figured out an efficient way to do it. 4. Istvan, Damien and Albaro did other handy jobs like replacing the bathroom baseboards with water-durable PVC baseboards, installing new fans in the bathrooms, and replacing the transition strips between wood and tile in multiple rooms with better-looking and better-functioning strips. Overall we liked that they demonstrated accountability, care and versatility in their work. We appreciated their work so much that we've hired them for replacing some damaged wood flooring in the master bedroom. Highly recommend! read more

HBZ and Damien did an amazing job replacing a bathroom floor and subfloor after a toilet leak caused a lot of damage. He was responsive and took the time to really investigate the cause and amount of damage we were looking at dealing with before giving his estimate. The costs were very reasonable and came in as estimated. Other contractors were out to take advantage of my 85 year old mother's situation, with bids and attitudes that were outrageous. I had an urgent need for furnace repair when I woke up on a cold December morning. Damien and his brother, who are HBZ, were super responsive when I called and extremely competent. This was not a quick fix as Damien was quickly over diagnosing the issue (less than two hours later) in the furnace for over an hour until he found the problem. The heating was restored and I left a happy customer. HBZ does all sorts of home remodeling and restoration and as I walked Damien around my 100+ year old home, he had a rare knowledge that most contractors do not about older homes and their construction in bathrooms, ventilation systems, etc. my home has undergone several renovations and I have worked with 10+ contractors and I would not hesitate to use HBZ for larger jobs as well. One other point that I believe is super important. HBZ could have easily gauged me given my urgent need and the fact they knew I lived in Queen Anne. They did not take an easy mark-up on my job and instead created goodwill via professionalism and a very fair price. Most contractors try to screw you when they find out you live in a nicer area. Much like all the reviews I had a great experience with HBZ. Istvan was the first to respond to a window replacement request, came to take measurements soon after, and sent a quote in a timely manner. Before they even started on my windows I had them come back for a quote on a bathroom install. They spent over an hour going through ideas with me and doing a full inspection of plumbing, electrical, etc. to understand what the project was going to entail before giving me a quote. I was impressed with the time given and thoroughness shown. I felt like it decreased the likelihood of surprises later in the project. I found the team to be easy going but professional. They showed up when they said they would. Projects were completed in the timelines they quoted. If I added items on after the initial quote, I was given what it would cost so there were no surprises on the final bill. They were fantastic at communicating when any issues came up during the process and they responded quickly to all questions and concerns I came up with along the way. Additionally, as others mentioned, I feel like they were very good at problem solving unique situations. My new bathroom is small but, working with my perhaps less than ideal sink and toilet choices, they managed to fit everything in perfectly. Thus far they have installed a bathroom, windows, and fixed my gutters. Everything has turned out great. I'd highly recommend them and will have them back for my next project. read more

Rental house window install, asked for a call to discuss installation plan. Did not get that discussion. I got a surprising install. Older home with aluminum frame window with siding right up to the frame, no trim. The old frame was left and the new custom size vinyl was installed inside the old aluminum frame. Looks a bit odd... but I get the fact that messing with the siding would have been more work. Still, I would have liked the call. This was about 600 for window install labor, I suppose my vision would have been triple that. Otherwise all good. read more

We had bought a nearly brand new townhouse a year ago and quickly discovered that many of our larger picture windows on the top two floors were making significant banging and rattling sounds whenever there was wind. When winds were strong enough, it sounded as if someone was on the other side of the window smashing on it. We had met with a number of other contractors and window companies (including the manufacturer) prior to connecting with HBZ and were told repeatedly that due to the difficulty of the job (high up windows on upper floors combined with narrow spaces outside), they would be unable to help. Additionally, we were told that the only help any company could potentially provide would be to do a full and costly replacement of all windows, even though the windows were no more than 3 years old. When I had met with Damien and Istvan at HBZ, I was almost ready to give up on finding a company that would be willing to help. However, when I met with Damien and Istvan, to my surprise, within minutes they were already coming up with a plan on how to help. Rather than replace all of the troubled windows, they suggested the issue could be more of an installation issue and offered to test out properly re-installing one window pane to see if that fixed the issue. To our amazement, it worked and we asked them to re-install five of the other noisiest window panes. Both Damien and Istvan were extremely professional, knowledgeable, helpful and responsive. They talked us through each step of the process and were always prompt at answering any questions we had. We've already recommended them to some of our neighbors. read more
