Two years ago all I ever heard frost EVERYONE was how small my now 2 year old was, I couldn't explain it other than he's just a small frame person. He was healthy, aligned with the growth chart, and as of today that still remains true. Fast forwarding to today I hear the complete opposite for our daughter, almost everyone ask me "what are you feeding her?!" McKinley has only consumed breast milk, but is larger than her brother was at 3 months!! If I could , I would give Dr. Thomas 6 stars. This is a review for all those parents who don't know what to do when their **new borns** are been breastfed and the latching is not ok, or if your babies are jaundiced without apparent reason after a week or days of been born. Tongue and/or lip tie might be the reason (of course it's always wise to ask you pediatrician first) Allegro Pediatrics and Overlake OHMC recommended us to seek help from Dr. Thomas four our little one. Best decision ever! (Note: no referral is needed to visit health:latch) Other pediatricians use the old fashion way by clipping the tongue, but not all of the pediatricians will take care of lip tied. This is when Dr. Thomas magic takes place since he uses this unique technique: laser. Dr. Thomas patiently explained us that taking care of this condition not only helps with latching but also will avoid long term problems with speech, breathing, and even potty training! I also have to mention (and Dr. Thomas will also tell you right away) they don't work with any insurance. This means you have to pay upfront; however they will provide all the codes and invoices needed so you can request your own insurance reimbursement. We had an amazing experience with Dr. Thomas and his team for our sons lip, cheek and tongue tie release. Tongue tie was a terminology that I've heard for children with speaking challenges. I've now learned that most of us have tongue or lip ties. That visible frenulum is called tongue tie and it can impact in many ways your body. It is where the fascia meets and it could lead to hunched back, headaches, teeth grinding, etc. For babies, this could mean a bad/painful latch and because of that, low milk intake. I think we all must be educated more about this point. It would probably help us understanding pain roots. Maybe tie is not that noticeable and you might think there's no problem. We decided to take our baby and the procedure was super super fast! Everything the very same day! We thank it nowadays with this pandemic. You get a consultation where all your questions and concerns are answered. Then the procedure is done. Afterwards, a Lactation Consultant helps you with any latching observations and mouth massages that must be performed daily by parents in order to avoid any scarring. These are the hardest part of the whole thing. It seems that the procedure doesn't hurt as it is done with laser and there were no more tears through the day but baby was asleep the rest of the day. Four months ago we took our daughter to health:latch for an oral tie assessment and they were wonderful! I'm a first time mom and had my son 12/24/2021. We exclusively breastfeed but it was painful. After seeing a lactation consultant she mentioned he "may have a lip tie but his tongue looks fine." I had trouble trusting that statement but she got him to latch on well so I assumed she was right. Two days later he went back to a shallow latch and I started to notice other symptoms that all pointed to a potential bigger issue. Lots of gas, spit up, falling asleep almost immediately at the breast, nursing for sometimes an hour or more and of course the nipple pain. After almost three weeks of this, I started doing some research and found Dr. Thomas at health:latch. With the convenient texting system I was able to text with him directly, which is so nice being a busy mom! We had our appointment two days after I had messaged him which is very impressive, I thought we would have had to wait a couple weeks! Our appointment was 01/18/2022. Dr. Thomas and his team are some of the most amazing people my husband and I have met. You're more than just a patient at health:latch, you're family. At our first visit, Dr. Thomas and his assistant Britt spent about 40 minutes educating us on the background of health:latch, all about oral ties and the issues they can cause. They took pictures of the inside of our sons mouth and explained that he was both tongue tied but also lip tied and told us step by step how the frenectomy would be done. My husband and I decided to have the procedure done. Dr. Thomas and Britt told us it would take just a couple of minutes and for me to get ready to nurse. They gave me a nursing pillow and had a rocking chair to sit in. Sure enough, within two minutes our son was back and wasn't even crying. We got him on the breast and he was able to nurse right away. I spent about 30 mins nursing him when it used to take an hour plus! We were already noticing a difference. We were instructed on oral exercises we had to do 4 times a day for 4 weeks. These take maybe a minute and I'm able to nurse him after each time which really helps calm him down after! Later in the day after we were home, our son was fairly fussy and hard to calm down which isn't like him. We were given the okay and dosage for infant Tylenol which helped him so much! He nursed most of the day for comfort and took a lot more naps than normal, which is to be expected. The next morning he was back to his old self and still nursing so much better! We had our day two follow up 01/20/2022 where we met with Katie who helped with his latch and gave me some tips to try at home if we have troubles! She did a weighted feed with him and said he is eating well and gaining appropriate weight! There is usually this follow up and then one more day 6/7 but our little guy was going so well they graduated him from the clinic! We were told if we wanted we could do a video appointment later on or could text any photos or videos with any questions we may have! Overall, I cannot recommend health:latch enough. If your instinct is telling you something is going on with your baby, you're probably right and Dr. Thomas is here to support and listen to you in that! Don't let the other 5 star reviews fool you - 5 stars is NOT enough for Dr. Thomas and his practice. I wish I could give him all the stars. We have a just-shy-of-1-month-old who within the last week and a half suddenly became a failure to thrive baby due to his tongue tie and lip tie. He was losing weight, nursing was painful - and not productive for him - and my supply quickly began dwindling. Once we figured out what the problem was I called Dr. Thomas in tears begging to come in on the advice of 2 different lactation consultants. He was able to squeeze us in incredibly fast (actually kept his office open late just for us) and was so warm, caring, and best of all - INCREDIBLY knowledgeable. We learned so much during our visit! He and Terry were awesome, the procedure was super quick (and very thorough - he also found 2 small buccal ties on our child that he quickly took care of while he was in there), my son's latch was IMMEDIATELY improved and Terry's lactation consultation directly after the procedure was beyond helpful and much needed. As a certified craniopath and pediatric chiropractor I have been treating my daughter since she was born. Structurally she was doing fantastic, but she did have a lip tie and was continuing to experience issues sleeping (restless sleep, light snoring, clenching her teeth, needing excessive amounts of sleep to feel rested, etc.). Having met Dr. Thomas previously through professional channels, I decided to have him assess my daughter. He found that her lip tie was interfering with her ability to create a lip seal, and potentially causing some other issues. We set a date for the revision procedure. My daughter is 4 so they did a conscious sedation (not fully knocking her out, but close), and the anesthesiologist found that her tonsils were also blocking her airway, which made sense based on what I had seen and heard when she sleeps. We were able to get a appointment with Health:Latch the same week that we received the information that our baby was tongue-tied. We arrived to our appointment with a folder filled with documents from all six laction specialists and doctors we had seen. Along with this; we brought all of the supplements, feeding and pumping regimens, and our medical grade breast pump. Dr. Thomas and his nurse confirmed that our baby had a very slight tongue tie and a more substantial lip tie that we had no idea about.  After talking to them and hearing more about the simple procedure, we felt comfortable letting Dr. Thomas take our little baby boy to the operating room without us. This was a big thing for us as first time parents of a two week old infant who had never let our baby out of our sight. The procedure took all of 90 seconds, and our baby came back to our arms hungry. He latched right away and I instantly felt a difference when he suckled. It felt like it had never felt before. We were referred to Dr. Thomas by our excellent midwife Susan Lawler at the Birthing Inn due to her seeing a severe tongue tie during our lactation consult for my five-day old LO. Health Latch was closed for the afternoon so I submitted a contact form online and within 30 minutes Dr. Thomas himself called me and offered an appointment the very next day. In fact, he even checked us in at the appointment! He and nurse Terry were both awesome- passionate, informative, transparent, and certainly helpful. We took our two week old son in this morning for evaluation and treatment, and Dr. Thomas and Terry were incredible. I appreciate so much a) the transparency of their business/fee structure; b) the specificity and simplicity of diagnosis and treatment; c) the lack of pressure to treat that same day (could pack a financial punch depending on what they find); c) and most of all, the comfortable professionalism and excellent education from both of them as to why releasing the ties is important now and for down the road, help with nursing and the latch, and exercises to do to help baby in recovery from the procedure so he doesn't revert to old bad habits. We had a great experience here! Baby boy had a tongue tie which our pediatrician diagnosed as "mild" and opted not to fix. However after 2 weeks he was still getting nothing when he nursed and was still completely dependent on the bottle, so we decided the tongue tie wasn't mild. We went to Dr Thomas on our own to get the tongue tie fixed and we are so glad we did! We saw some improvement immediately - baby went from getting nothing to getting 1-2oz per feeding - then about 3 weeks after the surgery he turned a corner and began taking everything he needed via nursing - to the point that he would refuse the bottle in favor of the boob! If we have another child with a tongue tie we would go here even sooner! read more

After a failed clip at another facility (that does high volume), our baby girl needed a revision. We battled between going to another well known center for clipping, or laser with Dr. Thomas. I'm so glad we chose this route. Dr. Thomas has such a gentle, kind demeanor, and you can tell immediately you'll be in great hands. Terry, his lactation consultant, is the best I've seen in my breastfeeding years (I've seen four). Being my third child, this was our first experience with ties. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Thomas. We received the most amazing care while in his practice. We referred for posterior tongue tie revision on my 7 week old. He was so kind and professional and he was amazing at getting us in quickly as we were on a time crunch since we were moving out of the area. He was able to quickly diagnose her tongue tie, lip tie, and two buccal ties that needed to be treated. He used CO2 laser and explained the whole procedure in great detail. We timed him, from the moment he walked out of the room to the moment he brought my little one back to be breastfed following the procedure was just under 4 minutes! Not going to lie, I cried. My sweet little babe came back crying, with a red, swollen mouth, but she latched immediately and calmed down quickly. Dr. Thomas gave us the instructions for Tylenol, if needed, but she never needed it! She slept well and most of the day of the procedure. She seemed a little bit uncomfortable but nothing too intense, and the very next day she was already back to normal as if nothing had happened! It took about three weeks before we noticed a real difference with her latch, but oh my goodness has it made a world of difference! At one month old, I discovered that my son, my first child, needed a tongue tie correction. I did research and found out about laser frenotomy. Because a laser frenotomy would be performed by a specialist dentist rather than a general practice pediatrician, it would likely create less scarring and better outcomes. I went to another dentist in the area who corrected the tongue tie via laser; however after a few weeks, my son was still struggling to latch properly. When I contacted this first dentist about my struggles, they told me to wait it out. I did as they suggested, but I still felt something wasn't right. One month later, I called Dr. Thomas and made an appointment for an evaluation. I wish I had seen Dr. Thomas first. Terry, the lactation nurse, took a COMPLETE lactation history from me (I've seen a few lactation consultants and this is more rare than you might expect). She gave me excellent, and personalized, lactation guidance, and ultimately Dr. Thomas performed another, more complete, tongue tie revision for my son. He took the time to describe to me how he performs the procedure to produce the best tongue tie release with the least scarring. After this procedure, my son was finally able to latch properly. I had struggled for weeks with poor latch and poor milk transfer. Seeing Dr. Thomas made all the difference. Dr. Thomas isn't just another doctor. He is so incredibly passionate about his work, and it shows. He isn't another jaded doctor who shows up for work in person but not in spirit. We had a phenomenal experience - health:latch is surely changing the game with tongue & lip ties, but more importantly with breastfeeding and health in general. Breastfeeding was painful & my son was unable to latch without a nipple shield. Our lactation consultant referred us to health:latch. Our newborn was diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie by a lactation consultant who referred us to Dr. Thomas. He was able to see us right away and saw both a posterior tongue tie and an upper lip tie. He and his lactation consultant Terri released both ties that day, which took less than five minutes. Dr. Thomas uses a laser instead of a knife, which resulted in a smaller cut and no bleeding. Terri helped us latch him immediately after the procedure and he ate well. We did the exercises prescribed by Dr. Thomas, and although our baby didn't like them, it didn't seem like he was in pain. For me, my pain while breastfeeding went from an 8-9 down to a 1-2 in the first week and is now at a 0 every time, and our son is gaining weight like a champ. Dr. Thomas took the time to answer all of our questions and followed up the evening of the procedure via text to make sure all was going well. Terri spent lots of time with us making sure his latch was right and he was transferring milk. We were so impressed by their professionalism and care for both me and our son. Dr. Thomas and the team at health:latch are AMAZING! It took about two months and a handful of lactation consultant appointments before someone suspected a tongue tie. I called health:latch on Thursday and had an appointment first thing the following Tuesday morning. Dr. Thomas diagnosed both a posterior tongue tie and upper lip tie, and treated them both within minutes. Breastfeeding pain went from a 9/10 to a 1/10 moments after the procedure was done, and went down to 0/10 within a week. I'm convinced the work the health:latch team did, as well as their support, is the main thing that saved my ability to breastfeed successfully. Dr Thomas and Terry are amazing! I have known Dr Thomas for a couple of years (from his former pediatric dental office). I just had my second child about two weeks ago. I planned on bringing her in for him to evaluate to see if he recommended a tongue tie release because I value his opinion and trust him thoroughly. (My 6 year old daughter could have benefited from the procedure as she was very gassy, although we didn't know much about tongue ties back then). Beyond grateful to have found this team. Dead end, after dead end led us to health:latch where we received clarity, kindness, and the support we so desperately needed. Our son Nico struggled with breastfeeding since early on, ultimately being diagnosed with reflux and prescribed medication which I very reluctantly gave him. After months of asking doctors to check for lip and tongue tie, seeking guidance from lactation consultants, and numerous appointments for low weight/failure to thrive we landed in the office of Dr. Thomas and things finally began to make sense. Sadly, Nico was already 10 months old by this point, refusing my breast which lead to my milk supply going away, and already relied solely on donor milk and formula. This "failure" that I felt (after being able to breastfeed my older son for 22months) led to depression and severe anxiety and although my intuition was telling me something was up, the doctors I saw continued to confirm he did not have a lip/tongue tie that needed to be addressed. When my son was first born, breastfeeding to say the very least was extremely challenging. I was unable to feed him without a nipple shield and he just could not seem to get more than 1 ounce when he fed. After three lactation consultant visits later, my son was diagnosed with a tongue tie top and bottom. My husband was adamant he "did not want someone cutting inside our son's face." Our pediatrician suggested Dr. Thomas at Health Latch who is using innovative laser treatments for frenectomy. We just knew this was the right treatment given the laser is so exact in such a sensitive area, and with absolutely no blade cutting the procedure is completed with no open cuts or any bleeding. No nipple shield needed and he latches with no pain for mom and is able to feed and get 3 ounces now! If you are trying to decide where to go to resolve tongue and/or lip tie issues go here first and immediately. Sadly we did not find Dr. Thomas until our baby had already had two procedures: 1. A tongue clip by a pediatrician which every professional we saw after said they really wished pediatricians would stop doing and 2. A ped dentist using a diode laser which literally burned the inside of our baby's mouth, with smoke coming out -neither of which resolved the feeding issues. Finally we ended up here, where Dr Thomas both personally consults with you as well as having a lactation specialist get your story. He uses a CO2 laser which cleanly cut a small diamond out (no burning) and also removed scar tissue from the previous procedures. He also sends you to an OT for follow up- which you need. After being unable to continue breastfeeding I was able to start again and it has been going strong for over a month. We have since randomly met many people who went through their own tongue tie sagas and everyone ended up at Dr Thomas- so save you an your baby a lot of pain and distress and start here- I wish we had. read more
