I went with some friends of mine last week. The restaurant has tons of outdoor seating space and the wait wasn't too long. I liked their cocktails. I wasn't crazy about the smoking section that they had in the back, but apparently that is a "thing" there. So what can you do. The flatbreads were great! read more

I planned my sister's bridal shower at Hearth and Tap, and everyone was very pleased with the party. The service was phenomenal -- Anya (I hope I'm spelling this correctly!) went above and beyond to make sure that everyone was happy and that all of our needs were met. The portions, especially for such a large group, were huge -- the guests were left feeling satiated and full! Most chose the sirloin and the chicken pot pie, and I did not hear any complaints or concerns. The flatbreads are also super delicious. My fiance and I cannot rave enough about Hearth & Tap!!! The bartenders (especially Bob and Sonny), wait staff, and manager Brian could not have made our experiences any better. FANTASTIC food (especially the flatbreads, brussel sprouts, and stroganoff), amazing ambiance, and friendly employees, what more could we want? We recently moved about 40 minutes away and wanted to check on Hearth & Tap's reviews since we were missing it so much as we searched for a new local place to eat...to all of the people complaining about cigar smoke: we have never had a problem with this, all we had to do was sit in the NON smoking section! While living in Pearl River, NY we went at least once a week...don't let the lower reviews steer you away, H&T is 100%%% worth it!!! We can't wait to make the trip back!!! read more

Had lunch here today and food was fantastic. So good that I decided to take some other items home for dinner. Equally yummy. The quality is top notch and everything was delicious....and I love that the menu isn't like every other place in the area. I highly recommend. Oh and the fun to-go pots are a great touch. read more

I love that they deliver. We wanted to stay in for Valentine's Day, so this was a great menu for that. We got filet mignon, king salmon and mussels delivered and all were cooked perfectly. This was my first time eating their food and now want to go there with friends. The mussels came in a steam pot which you can bring back and get three dollars off of the next steam pot item. read more

My husband and I had an early Sunday dinner. Chill in the air so we sat inside in a booth. We should have taken a table because the booth was tight. We ordered the Brussels sprout appetizer - different but tasty. I ordered a cheese burger - cooked correctly but very dry. My husband had the hangar steak - tough and not flavorful and left half of it. I don't think we'll be back. read more

I've written about Hearth before and I still really love it but I have to get what just happened off my chest. We called at 6 to see if we could get a 7pm reservation. We were told that it was too late to make a reservation but if we showed up by 7pm we should have no trouble getting a table. We arrived at 640pm and were told there was a 30 minute wait. There were empty tables outside, an empty table at the bar, and a few empty tables in the restaurant. My husband asked the host if we could grab any of the empty tables and he told us that they were being held for reservations. We ended up at the bar and the bartender let us order food so we ate our awesome meal at the bar which was totally fine. We were done by 750pm and when we left none of the empty tables had been filled. I totallllly understand holding tables for reservations but the host could have given us a table and said he needed us to be out by whatever time. Poor table management if you ask me. The burgers, pizza and beer are all soooo good that we'll still come back, but that really pissed me off. One side note, the tempura cauliflower was super soggy and inedible, but the pizza was off the hook and burgers were too. read more

Held a private afternoon reception for 60 people here on Saturday dec 23. The place was beautifully decorated for the holidays, the food was excellent and the staff extremely accommodating. Owner was very present constantly checking that we were pleased. I highly recommend this terrific place! read more

I generally don't do a lot of reviews, but I was really disappointed. I plan to give it one more shot, but the menu sounds way better than it tastes! I consider myself a "foodie" and love to try new things. We decided to have 4 different "small" dishes to experience as much as possible. All four sounded great to us, but lacked excitement after the first bite. Avocado Ciabatta Toast- no taste, way to much avocado smeared on bread, zero seasoning (i.e. Hint of lime or spice) Green Garlic & Chilli Cauliflower- absolutely horrible! Was breaded, buffalo sauce poured all over it. Think buffalo chicken wings. Truffle Mac & Cheese with shortribs- All I can say is...NO!! It's literally taste like Kraft Mac & Cheese (i.e. Orange fake cheese looking). They even sprinkle that fake orange powder on top. Short rib meat was tender which was good Chargrilled Octopus- This actually was not bad for a pub. Good flavor and tender. It's no Greek restaurant octopus, but it certainly was the best of the four dishes. Lastly, drinks were Pomegranate Martini (pretty good) and Vodka rocks (which you can't mess up lol). The vodka rocks was served in those really tiny rocks glasses filled with ice, so you get two sips then need another drink. My pet peeve when you're spending $10 a drink. Just give me a normal size glass. After going to Porterhouse for so many years and the food becoming inedible, we were really excited for something new and different. I think we'll try it one more time and stick with more traditional pub fare...burgers for example. read more

We had been scared off since it had a rep as a stinky cigar bar but, we were pleasantly surprised that there was no odor at all. Excellent food (flatbreads are a must) along with a interesting craft beer selection. We will go back for sure. read more

The food was excellent, so many things looked appealing that we will have to go back. This is not traditional pub food though there are some items you would expect like herders pie and fish and chips. Grilled octopus was extraordinary and the pork belly perfect. We knew the chef from a previous place he owned and his touch was evident in everything we had. We have been looking for a casual, non-chain go to place that is local and happy to say, we have found it. read more

Had a great time at Hearth & Tap last night. It was a great night/weather for outdoor dining. We sat on the front patio. They have two indoor dining rooms and a bar. The bar is not for me. You can smoke in there and there is a whole cigar program with humidors and rental lockers and the like. I just don't care for smoking and it irritates me. But it is like two separate spaces at H&T. I barely knew the smoking section was there. If that is your thing then this is your place but if it isn't you will be fine too. We had a bunch of appetizers and they were all completely on point. The buffalo cauliflower tempura was awesome everything it should be. There was a pork belly appetizer on special and you can't go wrong with pork belly. Mac'n'cheese with Filet Mignon was really good we cleaned the plate. If you are into Mediterranean flavors there is a grilled octopus over some hummus with olives which was executed perfectly. My wife had a fresh mozzarella flat bread. It was great. I had the pork chop schnitzel and it was amazing. More than I could eat (maybe the huge round of appetizers had something to do with that) but it is a large portion and comes with a fried egg and full frisée salad. The other couple we were with had burgers and they looked amazing. I tried the fries and they were great. The onion rings that came with them looked epic. Kinda pissed I didn't get one but I was so full. Desert was also ridiculous but I would recommend the chocolate chip cookie in the cast iron skillet a'la'mode. I had two bites and it was also ridiculous. I can't say enough about this place. Everything ran smoothly. They dealt with a huge party of 20 professionals from a local hotel (there are a bunch of corporate parks in the area) while we were there and made a really special evening for a couple who were getting engaged two tables over at the same time (it was obvious they were getting engaged, photographers and down on his bended knee, everyone applauded them it was so nice.) Bravo to the management and staff. I was impressed. It will be something they can cherish and the pictures should be awesome with the picturesque setting. Also forgot to add that the table next to us ordered some type of savory pie (shepherds or some other thing) and apparently they have two types of these dishes, she got the wrong one, almost a typo at this point, it was corrected for her in under five minutes. I really want to like this restaurant, I think this restaurant is more of a 4 than a 3 so I will give it another try again shortly. I love the outdoor seating especially in the summer and my kids can be a little loud an no one would notice. The staff was excellent, our server was one of the best, he anticipated everything and made it so easy for the kids. Its the little things like offering extra plates and wet wipes for the greasy hands, he was truly considerate and it was very appreciated. We ordered the Pimento and lump crab which was good, my husband loved the Hatco croquettes however the Flatbreads were just ok. I think they sounded better than they tasted. The Farm egg and porkbelly was disappointing, the egg was sort of scrambled/fries, the pork belly tasted and looked rather bland. The meyer lemon flatbread was ok but missing something. I think once you know what to order if will definitely be a better experience. I don't think they need the valet parking (kinda pointless). read more

We hosted a Rehearsal Dinner for 38 in the Rectory Room. The cozy room was just what we wanted before the Big Day. The food was delicious and the staff accommodating. We set this up from out of state and were not disappointed. read more

My group really enjoyed eating outside on the patio. The food highlights were the Brussel Sprout small plate and the Sausage Flatbread. My Kobe burger was medium rare and delicious but the rest my group ordered theirs 'medium' and it was too well done and dry. Service was spotty but I would definitly go back. How happy am I that live 5 minutes away. When I read that Hearth and Tap was farm to table I was very excited to try. This place did not disappoint. The cocktails were great and the food was amazing. We started with the corn chowder and chorizo, fig and bleu flatbread, burata and tomato, croquettes and the brussel sprouts (the bomb!) For our mains we split the steak special that was cook to perfection I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu! read more

Sat at the wine bar and ordered appetizers - grilled octopus was excellent, as was the portobello flat bread. 5 stars on those off the bat. Where this place comes crashing down is the service. The bartender was too busy talking to a specific group down at one end the of the bar and left the other side to have to wave him down in order to get service. Should have known the place wasn't for us when the hostess asked us to wait at the front, outside door to be seated but then went to seat two people who walked by us while we were standing outside and went to the hostess stand and got the last table for 2 which should have been ours. read more

First visit over the weekend, and a so-so experience overall. Excellent burgers, the rashers and fig flatbread pizza was tasty, and the buffalo-style cauliflower was also quite good. Service, not so much. We were a group of four for a late lunch around 3pm. The place was empty, yet our server still managed to forget one of the three apps we ordered. She came by at the end of our meal, realizing her mistake, and asked if we still wanted her to put it in. Uh, no thanks. A forgivable mistake if the place is packed and your server is crazed, but when you're one of the only customers? Not good. Our only other big complaint is with the beer prices. I would expect to pay $8 for a microbrew bottle in Manhattan where rents are sky-high, but not in a sleepy Jersey suburb. Honestly, the prices are absurd. Had a wonderful evening at the Hearth & Tap yesterday. So nice to have somewhere like this so close to my home. The food was excellent, I had a great orange crème beer. The charred octopus was amazing, as was the rhubarb crumble we had for dessert, will definitely be coming back, many more items on the menu that I want to try. read more

I had the misfortune of trying out this new restaurant last Sunday and was very disappointed. We were a party of four and were seated into a corner table with absolutely no room to exhale, the table top was too large for the space and we felt crammed and uncomfortable. After sitting unattended for over ten minutes we finally got water and asked for the waitress. We gave her our order and went to the front to ask for a different table. Both couples ordered appetizers but only my friend's showed up. We had to sit and watch them eat while waiting for ours. When we finally got the waitresses' attention, she went to find our appetizers.. but by then we had already been served out entrées. So we ate the appetizers like a side dish. Although she removed them from the final bill we felt the lack of attention was unacceptable. I ordered the braised short ribs. Two small ribs were presented with potatoes, two of the scrawniest thin asparagus spears I ever saw and two miniature carrots that were hard and hardly cooked. They must allow cigar smoking in the bar and there were certainly a few being smoked ion the terrace.. enough that we were able to smell the aroma in the place. Not my idea of a great meal or a good first impression. I don't think we will be back. read more

I have mixed reviews about my recent visit.....For starters, I greatly dislike restaurants that require you to use valet parking, even when it isn't crowded (as was the case during our visit). When we did go inside however, we were promptly seated. My husband and I ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer that was very good. We also ordered the wood roasted baby carrots. Don't order these! They were very disappointing- the figs in the dish barely perceptible, and overall nothing special at all. For entrees my husband ordered the HATCO NY Steak Frites. He said it was good, but not noteworthy. The biggest travesty of the whole meal however was the Blackened Fish Tacos! Firstly, for a "Large Plate" dish, there were only 3 little tacos with a single small piece of fish on each (yes there was blah rice and beans served on the side), but this didn't turn out to be such a bad thing anyway as the fish was SO spicy, it was inedible. I am very familiar with blackened style of cooking, as I have had it numerous times in various restaurants and I like spicy food, but this was a massive mistake! Additionally, the tacos were so soft that they disintegrated in my hands as I tried to eat the taco remains (fish removed). I mentioned to our waitress that the fish was too spicy. She offered me more water-that was it. No concern, interest, or communication about passing my remarks back to the kitchen. I wasn't looking for reimbursement, but a good establishment would want to hear patrons feedback (good and bad). I wanted to really like it here, but unfortunately won't be returning.......on a side note, the cigar-bar was really cool-it almost reminded me of a movie set! It's a shame this very large space (that only had 5 customers in it) can't be enjoyed by patrons who cannot tolerate cigar smoke. It didn't seem like a good use of space... read more

My son suggested this place, so decided to give it a try by joining him for late lunch. The people who work there, quite pleasant and accommodating. The hostess recommended the second floor since there was a big even taking place downstairs. The upstairs was very cozy with nice views of Kinderkamack Road. I thought it would be very nice to dine at this place when it snows, when the weather is very cold.. I asked the waitress a bit of a specialized question about beers, was basically interested in trying a beer that resembled yuengling, and of course she knew the answer. I always wanted to find a place I can really enjoy near home. We tried their burgers. Delicious! We had a green salad, not a lot of stuff in it but it was enjoyable, it's sauce definitely qualified. There will be a next time so will have a chance to try other things. But based on this first experience, I recommend this place, unequivocally. read more
