So much potential, so many disappointments. Admittedly, we had a large party, but astonishingly, it took over three and a half hours to complete dinner, the vast majority of the time wondering where the staff disappeared to. It took TWO HOURS FOR THE WAITER TO BRING US A CAN OF BEER...seriously! The restaurant was practically empty, I literally only saw one other couple and we had three servers, they had no excuse. I ordered the guava duck, described in great detail as a duck breast with a paragraph of delectable accoutrements. When taking my order, the waitress snidely said, "You know, that is the half duck breast order? If you want the whole duck breast, it will be $10 more." My thought was, that is not what the menu says, so why are you telling me this now? And, why would I want to double the dinner portion? Anyway, I declined and ordered the regular (and only) portion listed on the menu. Well, I got about 4 oz. of food. No kidding. The tiniest portion of meat sitting on about 4 carrot matchsticks surrounded by tiny dollops of sauce. It tasted ok, but it was ridiculous that it took longer to read the description of the "meal" than it did to actually eat it. My friend ordered tomato soup which was thin and had no flavor. Another ordered a focaccia sandwich and said it was so salty she could hardly eat it, but at least the french fries were good. When the bill finally arrived, they were abysmal at splitting the check, it was an absolute trainwreck! Then, we noticed they had charged us TRIPLE for the appetizer and DOUBLE for several drinks. It took two bill revisions and another 45 min. to get it all straightened out. Conclusion: We were hoping for a slightly upscale dining experience with fun food and professional service. We left feeling like we wasted our time and money; and we were still hungry! This place is simply too pretentious for its own good. Response: Their response below is defensive and misleading. While some people arrived early and had drinks at the bar, we arrived on time, and if several rounds of drinks were served before ordering food, IT WASN'T TO US! As I stated before, WE WAITED TWO HOURS FOR THE FIRST BEER...and then we were handed a CAN...like we were at a backyard BBQ. No one moved around the table as suggested. I witnessed the exchange regarding the appetizer confusion mentioned. When the waitress said there was a meat choice (the menu was not clear about that), the gentleman asked if his order could be "half and half with a little of both," and the waitress said yes. He was very clear. Half and half is one order, not two, so it is only fair that it should have been corrected. Also, nowhere in their response did they address the inadequate, misleading menu (if customers spend two hours staring at it and still don't know the options and have no idea what portions they are ordering, something is seriously wrong); or the food issues I specifically mentioned (tomato soup thin and flavorless, focaccia way too salty, etc.). It's also naïve for them to think that one cannot roam from one private dining area to the restroom and see the other empty or nearly empty dining areas from time to time...especially when spending that much time in a place. Perhaps most disappointing was what I did not see...any sign of remorse or regret for the frustration and disappointment they played a key role in...or any sign that they might take the feedback provided and at least attempt to improve future experiences. Potential customers should keep that in mind. read more

TJ at the bar knows his business. We took in some smoked bourbon just passing through and he ensured that we will be returning next week with friend to do the full experience. Also got some fig balsamic which is just crazy good. The smoked bourbon was expected to be some homemade liquid smoke alternative splashed in an otherwise good bourbon, it was not that at all. Hearth on 25th is a wonderful restaurant with a great ambiance. The menu changes some by the season, but everything that I've had so far is to die for. If you aren't looking to spend a whole lot, their salads, sandwiches, and burgers are great. Most of the sandwiches optionally come with truffle fries with a garlic aioli sauce. Definitely opt for these, they are delicious! If you're looking to splurge a bit more, the entrees are amazing. Last October, I tried a duck pasta with pepitas. The portion size was very generous; the pasta was very creamy and the duck was melt in your mouth tender. If you like liquor, then you must not pass on the bar. The Title 32B cocktail is a rye based masterpiece and they also make a mean manhattan. The bar also serves up some of the best local beers that you can find on 25th street. Lastly, Hearth offers homemade balsamic vinegar and oil pairings with fresh baked bread. If you're lucky enough to get the dark chocolate/ blood orange pairing try not to fill up before your meal comes! *Ask for Chris if you want amazing service. I've been lucky enough to have him as my server many times since I started eating here. He's very personal, laid back, and never disappoints. :) read more

I've tried this place multiple times and I appreciate the use of fresh/local ingredients but they fall short in transforming them into memorable dishes. The Lavender Sparkle is good but again not mind blowing. The entire staff seem like they'd rather be somewhere else and the speed of food delivery is very slow no matter what time of day. This was my first experience eating in Ogden. I would not have listed Ogden as one of my first choice foodie towns, but The Hearth on 25th did not disappoint. Every morsel of my food from the pig and fig appetizer to my entrée and salad was inventive and well executed. The pastas are all homemade here and you could tell. I got the raviolo with duck breast, and my friend got the rigatoni primavera(?). Both pastas were so tender-- you could really taste the difference. My husband got the filet and said he did not care for it. He found the cut a bit flavorless. And the au poivre sauce was not done like I believe should be. It was not creamy; it was more like a demi-glace. The flavor of my duck dish was amazing, but I will admit the duck was a bit tough. Still I would come here again in a heartbeat. At 40 a person that mean would have been disappointing. At well over twice that, it just kind of pissed me off. 200 dollars for two people, it left me feeling cheated. I had heard such good things. Seen such great reviews. I was excited. The waitress was pleasant. The staff accommodating. The food, not just not good but bland and terrible. We ordered the amuse bouche. Or a little of everything. I'm a foodie, and a cook myself. The salmon smeared bread baguette was dry and flavorless. The rabbit ravioli, was cold clammy and flavorless. Rabbit stew was just empty. Leaving me feeling like someone put those things on the menu just to have the shock factor of serving them. I was excited to try a new chef inspired thing. But the only inspiration was, what happened to the real chef? We kept coming up with stories of where he had gone. And why? Dry flavorless tenderloin, and vegetables that were soooo salty I couldn't finish more than a few bites. Followed up by a bread pudding that had no texture. Very little flavor. And layered in Sauces that has no business being on that plate at all. All in all I would and never will return. I feel bad. But at the fact that myself and my wife were one of 3 tables with people at them on a Tuesday night at 7 o'clock, I don't imagine it being much longer before they drive their client base away. read more

My husband and I came for our anniversary dinner. The ambiance is lovely, but we chose to sit outside on the balcony and it was great. The bread and oi/vinegar was delicious. I will need to go back and buy some unique oils for gifts during the holiday season. My husband ordered the Yak ($44) and I got the Stroganoff ($28). The Stroganoff was perfect. The seasoning, the portions, the noodles, the meat. All of it was excellent. My husband enjoyed the Yak as well. This was definitely a special occasion place for us if we go back. I ordered the pork chop and once I started eating it I noticed that it was not cooled through and nearly raw in the middle. This was the absolute WORST meal I've had in a long time, if not ever. The stroganoff tasted like someone squirted an entire bottle of Dijon mustard on it. I think it was only Dijon with some dried out meat. Disgusting. The Burrata salad was nasty, they actually took mozzarella and filled it with goat cheese mixed with dill and fennel, NOT BURRATA at all (if anyone has ever tasted Burrata). The ice cream was sour. I think by this time they were trying to kill us because we called them out. The only edible thing was the house carbonated bubble water (which they charged $7 for)! To clarify, we couldn't eat the meal and the manager tried to give us dried out cheesecake for dessert. No thanks! The waitress was super sweet. We still paid our $80 tab. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! We liked this place. The prices were a bit steep, but the burger, the excellent pear salad, and the butternut squash ravioli were honestly worth it. Being a baker myself, I'd say the bread offered wasn't very good and rather strange- white bread that didn't seem to be flavorful. The ambiance it a bit strange being on the second floor and sort of split into two seating areas, but it was quiet and nice. If they improved their bread, which to me would be rather easy to do, then they'd definitely have a 5 star. read more

I dined here a few times over the past few months and had a few wonderful evenings here. The service i received from Chris was impeccable. I have read a few reviews below me, one in particular and i have no idea why someone would insult a server in any establishment, let alone this gentleman. His hat, is fantastic. And his personality (if you have one as well) is witty and comforting, also if you were to understand anything about style you would appreciate his appearance. Moving forward. We received the pork 2 ways and the Yak! Both fantastic dishes! The cream of asparagus was to die for. Garnished with blue cheese, really?! Awesome. All around a great fine dining establishment. Keep your head up and your ears open, get out of that Ogden mindset, you might be able to learn a thing or two from these servers. Maybe try some oil and vinegar while your at it. Amazing. I was passing through town and this place caught my eye. Although I didn't get something from the hearth, the clam chowder and short ribs I did order were surprisingly well prepared. I'm sad I don't live closer. I'll definitely make it a point to come again though. Also, the service was top notch. The hostess and I chatted for a couple of minutes and that was welcoming right off the bat. My server was on point and never delayed in his friendly and professional service. We returned to Hearth on Monday for dinner. We ordered sweet potato soup, yak tartare, yak steak, and venison chops. The sweet potato soup was well executed, very creamy and yet still light. The yak tartare was described as being topped with a quail egg yolk but came with a standard chicken egg yolk. I really don't care, as fowl yolks tend to taste almost indiscernible from each other. The tartare was tasty, the meat was well handled and seasoned minimally with nothing more than black pepper from what I could taste. It was served with homemade tortilla chips that unfortunately did not get the fry job they needed. Some chips were slightly under cooked, with moisture remaining in the tortilla, which creates a chip that is quite tough and chewy at times. Most of the chips were fried through, just a couple off ones. The yak steak came out mid-well, which is problematic for lean and tougher meats like yak. It was unfortunate, but the waiter and owner were absolutely willing to fire a new one. We would have had them do so, except we had also already started digging into the venison chops. The venison chops were ridiculously awesome. Cooked absolutely perfectly. Rare in the middle, crusty and well seasoned on the outside. The venison chops were so good that we ordered a second set. All considered, we had very enjoyable food. The service still left a little to be desired. Not getting into the details, but there were more than a few rough edges along the way. But, as long as you get a good meal, rough edges can be overlooked. read more
