After replacing the batteries in our remote for our Enviro gas fireplace, the remote would no longer display the thermostat control. Assuming we needed a new remote control (fairly expensive) we took it to Hearthside and Home to have it replaced. Due to his extensive experience with gas fire places Aaron Bautz of H&H was able to immediately troubleshoot the issue (don't hold down a button while you are replacing batteries - it inexplicably deactivates the thermostat control and reset the control for us. They could have sold us a new expensive remote, but they didn't - a sign of a company you can trust. Thanks Aaron for saving us money and getting our fireplace back up and running. read more

They have been in business since 1977 for a reason! Approximately 20 years ago we bought a furnace from them at a home show. Believe it or not it's still working but we remodeled our hearth which required a new face plate. Unfortunately the manufacturer went out of business and I was left with a major problem. I needed to swap out an arch plate for a rectangular. I decided to call Hearthside & Home. I couldn't believe they still had all my info and the model we bought and was happy to help us. Lucky for me they have a fabrication shop and had to build me one. It took a few tries as this was difficult in getting all the measurements. It ended up being pretty tricky because of the venting and electrical. In other words it had to be exact. But they back up their work and we finally got a perfect plate! There aren't all that many fireplace stores around Lynnwood, at least not that I could find after a cursory Googling. Hearthside is right in the heart of town, though (such as it is). They've been here for quite a while and the people on the sales floor make it seem like it's probably to some extent family-run. It's not a huge showroom, which probably helps keep costs down a bit. They mostly sell gas, electric, and other fireplace inserts. Not a lot of big fancy stoves and grills and stuff here, though I might have missed them. It's a warm showroom, which is probably unsurprising, given how many fireplaces they demo at any given time. They're patient and they know their inventory down pat, and will answer all your questions. Often, the guy who's helping you on the floor will be the guy who comes to the house to install the fireplace. In the end, their prices were a tiny bit higher than other stores I found farther out, but they have a good selection and I would have been more than happy to send them my business. read more

These guys know their stuff and they treat you like... well part of the family. Clearly there is a reason they have been in business so long! I had a really odd ball fireplace and wanted to get a wood burning insert. Hearthside has exactly what I was looking for. I miscommunications some measurements and I'm sure made a hard job a little harder by accident but these guys were real pros. I was having problems with my gas fireplace due, in part, to a poor design used by the builder. I called a couple of firms to get bids to "redoing" the chimney. Another company quoted $10,000-$12,000. Hearthside & Home quoted $7,000-$8,000, but they gave me an education in how to use my fireplace as-is in a better and much more satisfactory way. We had our gas fireplace installed three weeks ago and have been delighted with both the fireplace and the service we received. We appreciate that they made extra efforts to do the installation before Christmas so that our family could enjoy the warmth for the holidays. When the insert was just a little too wide to fit into the space where the old fireplace was, they had another metal backing panel custom-made so that the fireplace would lay flush against the brickwork (rather than widening the opening). They did this at no extra charge. The fireplace has really made our living room a much more enjoyable space for the family, and we spend more time together there now, rather than being spread out around the house. We bought a Kingsman gas fireplace from Hearthside & Home a little less than 2 years ago. The sales team was great we really liked the idea of a local family owned business. We have had them out 3 times to replace parts on the fireplace, the last time was mid November. The service tech did not have the parts to fix the problem and said someone would be in contact to schedule the repair once the parts were in. 2 weeks later the shop called and asked if it was OK to order the $275 part to fix the problem. I asked if that shouldn't be covered under warranty, nope the unit was only covered for a year even though the same part has failed before. Well it's now a month and a half later and as you can see by the picture, the fireplace isn't working. No call from Hearthside letting us know the part has been ordered, when the part will be in or a timeline on when it will be repaired. read more

We hired them to install a gas fireplace insert, because they had a competitive price, they'd been in business 30 years and their sales and installation managers impressed us. But God were we disappointed! Installation was supposed to take a day, but it turned into a two-week ordeal. The day of the install, I came home and found that a) there was no faceplate or doors on the gas insert, because they hadn't fit properly, and b) the basement was filled with gas. H&H had caused a gas leak and left without alerting us or fixing it. I called the store, and I was told they'd be out the NEXT MORNING! We had to break a window in the basement to get ventilation and called the gas company (PSE) in the meantime. When PSE arrived, we were told we were being "red-tagged" because we didn't have a city or county permit for the new gas piping. H&H had never even mentioned the need for a permit. PSE turned our gas off, locked the meter and left. We had no stove, dryer, hot water or heat that night. H&H arrived the next morning - never apologized for endangering our lives or for the lack of permitting - and then had to uninstall the new (illegal) gas line in order for our gas to be turned back on. That was the second day that one of us had to take off work. While they were there H&H failed to properly re-light the pilot light (and then refused to wait and verify the furnace was working), so we went a second night without heat and had to get PSE out again the next day to light it properly. That was the third day we had to take off - waiting for PSE to fix H&H's problem and also waiting for the modified faceplate to be installed. The faceplate still didn't fit quite right, so the rep said he'd make a new bottom plate and would call us to arrange yet another visit to install it. In the meantime, the permits took about ten days. The installers finally came again on a Saturday morning to re-install the gas line and left in a hurry because they both said they each had to leave for personal road trips. The next Monday, I again took a day off work (day four) to meet up with the installer and wait for the city and county inspectors. That day, the H&H rep admitted to me that none of the employees of H&H had a license to install gas piping, and that they all just used the license # of a former employee! When he left for his long lunch (right before the county inspector arrived), he asked me to jump start the company truck, which sat dead in our driveway. It's been three weeks now, and the faceplate still isn't fixed... but I don't plan to call them again. When I last spoke to the sales manager, he refused to refund any of my money for the troubles they'd put us through. Instead he told me I was lucky I wasn't being charged for the extra trips. I should have listened to everyone's advice and hired Sutter Home and Hearth instead - it would have definitely been worth the extra money! read more

This company has serviced my fireplace for about 10 years and what use to be good service has deteriorated to the point that I will not be using them again. First, the service call increased by 100% from $100 to $200. Ok, I understand costs must increase. Next, they don't do Fridays. Ok, I will try a different day. Finally got a date scheduled, guy came and did the service but didn't remove the flaking paint at the back of the fireplace - on the back firewall. I called and complained. They sent the repairman. He spray painted the back wall, but didn't scrape off the pain that had pealed off the back wall but was still stuck to the wall. Just sprayed over the pealing paint and left. So, I will do it myself next time. I had planned to replace the entire unit next year, but will consider a different company when I buy a new unit. Very disappointed! read more
