They were pretty prompt in responding, getting me an estimate, scheduling, and doing the work. This is in response to Connie B at Powers: 1. We do not have a fire stove, we have a fireplace with glass doors 2. The discount was $10 3. They did call as mentioned, but the technician did not leave a message nor was I able to reach him by him answering his phone or able to leave a message for him 4. His scheduled appointment was from 1-3, not 11:30, when he wanted to arrive. We weren't expecting him at 11:30, we had adjusted our schedule to meet their scheduled appointment (remember they had already made me wait 2-3 hours without a call, for them to arrive the week prior). 5. The metal roof was not wet, nor was it too steep. Many workers have been on the roof doing various work. Furthermore we have tie-downs so a safety harness could be used if needed while cleaning the chimney from above and outside 6. After the technician left my wife she spent 2 hours cleaning soot that was on a blanket, sofa, floors and counters Needless to say we will not use them again and warn others of their poorly preformed job. read more

This company advertises itself as full service chimney contractor ready to help customers no matter the issue, but it could not be further from the truth. I made an appointment for a chimney sweep and inspection more than 6 weeks ago. Their person failed to show or promptly call on the first appointment. Another two workers showed up for the second appointment, spent 15 minutes looking at the chimney before declaring they could not do a chimney sweep the way our chimney was configured at the top. They would first have to do extensive work on it. This made no sense as their web site states they do the majority of their sweeps from the bottom up. After more delay and requests for help, they abruptly announced they could not help us at all as they had a "big job" to complete and could not spare any manpower. We are now into Fall and have to start the process over. If you want a reliable, helpful, and straight forward contractor, you should take a pass on this one! read more

Had two jobs for them: a pillar and an upper chimney rebuild. Both were done in a thoroughly professional manner. From estimate to clean up, everything was done beyond satisfaction. They are the type of company that makes you wish you had more work for them and I'll gladly call them again. Cost was competitive with other bids I received. My house is over 40 years old and the bricks no longer made but they took extra effort to match them and once again exceeded expectations. Selling my house and needed to get fireplace fixed. I had a pellet stove installed 8 years ago. Within 2 years, the stove died and I couldn't get parts for it. We chose instead of replacing it, we installed a stove downstairs which heated the entire house. We left the dead one alone. Now that we want to sell, I wanted to turn it into a regular fireplace. Powers came out to give me a quote. Said it would be cheaper to just install a new stove because otherwise, they'd have to pull out the brick and such. I agreed. They also looked at the cap and components on top of chimney and noticed they were in need of replacement as well. I figured this was the case, I had known it was in bad shape up there so I anticipated the work needed. He went up on the roof, and checked everything and told me what needed to be replaced. I needed a new storm cover and chase collar. Price quoted was $1250. I agreed and paid 1/2 up front. Appointment was set for 2 weeks later. I emailed them a few days before appointment to confirm we were set as I was taking off work. They confirm that unless part that had to be custom made wasn't finished in time, we were still set for 8-9am on Friday the 24th. I emailed them again and they said they were set. The day of install, it gets to be 9:30. I call them and ask what's up. They tell me they tried calling me yesterday and said they had to take care of another issue before mine first thing but that they would be out around 1pm. I said ok fine. 1pm comes and still no sign of them. I call their office again and there's a new girl there who didn't know anything about it and that she only saw the appointment was for this morning. She says she will call them again and find out. She calls me at about 2pm and tells me they are still 45 minutes out. Finally they show up around 3:30. They get to work and install the part. Unfortunately, the collar was made the wrong size so they now have to come out on Monday and install the part again. The guy who came out was really cool and very knowledgeable and thorough. Communication within the office needs to be better. They said they called me to tell me about schedule change when I had been emailing them throughout the last 2 weeks. Why not send an email if you can't get a hold of me? I had stuff to do that day other than wait around for them. Four stars due to the communication issues, they could have done better. read more

We would readily recommend Powers. The brick entry to our home had cracks in a side arch. Ekraam was terrific! Though it took a few trips a solution was found. They gave us several scenarios that may have gotten expensive but the fix was made with least upcharge from the original estimate for tuck pointing. Really appreciated Ekraam's tenacity in solving our problem. Would use Powers again and would ask for Ekraam! read more

Not a cheap fix, but he figured it out and stayed here an hour trying different things for us. We will use them for all of our future needs. In February 2015 water began to drip below the roofline along the brick chimney on my Lynnwood, WA house. After several estimates I hired Powers Chimney & Masonry to repair the damage. According to their statement, work included a chimney rebuild to the roofline, new crown, new counter flashing, new 12" x 12" flue tiles, 12" x 12" stainless steel chimney cap, seal chimney from roofline up and open faced sweep and inspection. The total, including tax, was $1,773.90 In February 2017 water was again dripping below the roofline. Powers inspected the damage and sent me photos showing cracks in the cement top, apparent cracks in a brick, loose flashing, etc. Their estimate for repair of their 2-year old chimney job was $988.20, including tax -- more than half the cost of their original work. (Naturally they only have a one year warranty.) New work would include repairing the crown using crown coat, removing and installing upper piece of roof and counter flashing, and an acid wash and reseal on a dry day. I asked why a new chimney would need this much costly repair after only 2 years when the original chimney lasted 50. I was told this was a very wet and windy winter. Really? The house is located between Seattle and Everett, an area of the country where rainy and windy weather is the winter norm. I can't afford $1,000 every 2 years for chimney repair, so I'm going with another contractor, Premier Masonry Restoration. Their work will include a custom stainless steel chase cover over the top of the chimney, remount of existing cap, repair/reseal of all counter flashing and "breathable water repellant" for $900. Premier does not guarantee the chimney work done by Powers, but apparently neither does Powers beyond their one year warranty. A neighbor called a week ago asking for my chimney repair experience and any recommendations. She's having a similar water drip problem, so I'm guessing the original chimneys in this development have a 50-year life expectancy. I explained the problem I was having, and unfortunately Powers lost my recommendation. read more

I have plenty of projects to tackle as a new home owner of a home that is over 75 years old and previous owners who lived here for 60 years. The home inspection indicated both chimneys (fireplace and furnace) needed TLC and recommended a professional complete a more thorough inspection. After the first guy came out to quote the work I realized there was a lot to do so I shopped around for more estimates. Out of 4 quotes Powers Chimney & Masonry was the best price for the most service, which at times can make someone skeptical, but Zach and his crew delivered. They repaired both chimneys, removed a wood burning insert from the fireplace and completed the work quickly and courteously. After asking permission, his crew even sprayed dust from the neighbors siding after they were done. I plan on working with Powers Chimney & Masonry on future projects and will set a defined directive for the project. Zach is eager to grow his business and comes to over-serve. In my case he removed some building materials that I did not want removed. He is returning them, but I felt they should not have been removed in the first place without asking first. You will get more than you are expecting with Powers Chimney & Masonry, just make sure it is not too much. read more

The technician explained what was likely going in the base of my chimney and then it turned out they had to demo a portion of it and rebuild it once the water heater was removed so they could see everything going on. They rebuilt the chimney above the roofline. The quote was less than Excel Chimney for a similar assessment. read more

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. You have other companies that are rated higher and are comparable in price and schedule availability. Here is the story if you are interested: I have used Powers three times. First time was summer 2014. They cleaned and inspected the chimney and fireplace. Same in summer 2015 for the second visit. Except, this time they said that we MIGHT have had a chimney fire. The technician said it was ok though - he said we should have it cleaned twice a year and this would keep us okay to continue to use the fireplace normally. He said we should consider letting them install a flue liner to the tune of around $4000. So the next time I scheduled a cleaning was for 6 months later. The third and final visit was in December and a new technician showed up. He was just finished with his 'apprenticeship' but I was reassured that he was qualified. He performed a cleaning and inspection. He told us that we have now had multiple fires in this chimney and that we should not burn in it or we might burn our house down. By the way, he thought it was smart to say that in front of my 7 year old. Thanks, it took me an hour to calm her down and now she is scared of the fireplace. How could burning a quarter of a cord of seasoned wood have caused this much damage in 6 months? We never let it burn when we are not around and have never noticed any of the many signs of a chimney that is on fire. You can google what happens. It is impressive and very noticeable to say the least. Because of the experience we had with this technician and because I am not a new homeowner, or an idiot, I decided to call other Chimney companies to get at least 2 more opinions. I called Emerald City Chimney and Chimcare. Both are highly rated companies and were WONDERFUL to work with. Emerald City: They were the first to come out. The technician has been doing this for 20 years. He worked with the owner of Powers Chimney at Emerald City in the past. He saw no evidence of a chimney fire in the fireplace. I was assured that what he saw was pretty normal. He regularly sees worse. He also noticed that the cleaning job that Powers did was horrible. He offered to clean the fireplace the right way. I approved the cleaning. Chimcare: Next, these guys came out and inspected everything. They were of the same opinion that Emerald City was. Really professional and also in agreement with the fact that there was probably not a chimney fire. He then proceeded to show me why he thought there was no fire and to explain what happens in a chimney fire. A chimney fire is a big event. There would have been more evidence that this happened. When confronted with all of this information, this is what the "Professionals" at Powers Chimney did: 1. They refused to offer me a refund. They say that there technician did a good and thorough job. I was shown evidence that he did not. 2. They refuse to apologize or even acknowledge their technicians behavior. Would have been a nice thing to do. 3. They actually claimed that the reason these other companies don't see any evidence of fire is because of how good they cleaned it. Emerald City and I had a good laugh about that one. 4. They continue to threaten that I am going to burn my own house down. Their people skills are atrocious. 5. They refused to take my word on any of the information from the other companies, they insisted on speaking to them and seeing their invoices. Both companies welcomed that. Not the end of the world, but I didn't appreciate that. Last but not least: The owner of this company used to work with Emerald City and went out on his own a few years back. Emerald City's take on the situation was that they were not surprised to hear this happened to me when working with Powers. I think he ripped me off, was inappropriate and has some unthoughtful and unprofessional people working for him. He can keep the cleaning fee. Keep treating people like this and he is going to need the money anyway. I absolutely welcome a rebuttal from Powers to this review. read more

They did it right away, explained the estimate in detail, sent us pictures and a typed up estimate immediately. They called at 8am to say that they were going to be about an hour and a half later than I was expecting them to be here. Original time was 8:30am he came at 10am. The person who did the work cleaned the main floor chimney and then I had him examine the chimney in the upstairs bedroom to see if it was dirty enough to warrant cleaning. He said it could definitely be cleaned and said that he would give me $20 off for this chimney sweep. I said that was great and let's get it cleaned as well. Original cost for the first chimney was $99 so I expected it to be $79 since he offered the $20 discount, well this is not how it went at all. I was charged another $99 for the second chimney sweep and when I called to talk to Melody the office manager to let her know of the situation she said that I actually did get a discount because normally a chimney sweep is $129. I told her this was unfair since the gentlemen knew I used Angie'sList to pay a total of $99 and $20 off would be $79. she said that's inside sign the paper for total charge of $99 it was against the law for her to change the price. Very unprofessional, very upsetting, I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

I had a chimney liner for my wood insert cleaned out by this company. Since the cleaning, 16 months ago, my insert has not been drawing the proper amount of air to the point that when I open the door to the unit my living room is filled with smoke. The guys that came out were very nice, however I don't feel they used the proper equipment for my home. They used a very hard looking chimney rod for the work. At one point it got stuck and they pulled so hard that my unit was lifting up inside my house, and it weighs a couple hundred pounds. I was yelling at them to stop and they said it was totally normal. It did not feel normal to me. It could have damaged my insert which I paid $3600 for. They were also supposed to do an inspection. They failed to disclose to my my chimney was not at the proper height for code and that some of the bricks had issues. I just had my chimney cleaned by another company 2 days ago and I was appalled at the amount of soot that fell out after just starting the cleaning. I have 3 children and my chimney was so full it could easily have started a fire. The owner argued on the phone with me and did nothing to try and resolve the situation. He interrupted me several times and made absolutely no apologies. Integrity and hard good work is something I value. The response from the owner makes it clear to me that customer service is not valued. read more
