I traveled to Breckinridge, CO with a group of friends for a birthday trip. I decided to have a dinner to close out a great trip and because there was a total of 14 of us there weren't many options that could accommodate us. Ember accommodated is very well! We made a reservation & were given a private dining room on the top floor. The restaurant was very cool & had an abstract look. Our server was very kind and patient, being that we were a large party & the chef came by personally to say hello to us! All this being said, I must add that this restaurant is very unique... particularly in reference to the food & the menu in general. I would recommend for anyone that wants an elevated meal experience & is okay with experimenting with food even if it means that it will not necessarily fill them up. (And to be fair, they are very open about not being your average restaurant. It alludes to it on their website & the menu & the waiter tells as soon as you are seated.) All in all, if you're feeling adventurous definitely go for it! If not & you're just trying to get a solid, standard & filling meal, I probably wouldn't recommend. read more

Absolutely absolutely the worst experience I've ever had in restaurant, every dish was trying way too hard and the server knew absolutely nothing about the menu. No experience in selling wine or any understanding of how to navigate a dining experience. The server ended the night by bragging of how much money he made annually, $100,000, but obviously had no idea what a proper done experience should be. He pulled out a notepad to explain what was on the dish, every menu item was an expression of ADHD, there were probably 10 components on every dish and none of them tied together. I can't anticipate this place staying open, if it wasn't in a tourist town where you didn't rely on repeat customers it would've been closed a long time ago. Best and most exquisite restaurant experience EVER! Ember in Breckenridge was the absolute perfect place to spend Christmas Eve with my brother and dad. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, festive, and welcoming exactly what you'd hope for on a special holiday night. We did the three-course dinner, and every single dish was outstanding. I started with the duck breast appetizer, which was amazing! Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. For my entrée, I had the lobster, and it was incredible. So tender, rich, and cooked to perfection in a butter bath. To finish, the key lime pie was killer! Our lovely server Val was the star of the night with his attentiveness and gave us some great recommendations! This is a special place. Not just because it's in the magical mountains of Colorado, but because the ambiance, the service, the food wove together to make a very special dinner for a group of our friends. We had high hopes for Ember as it was recommend by our friend who lives in the area. The deconstructed dishes were a missed for us. The dishes we liked were the scallops and Toro Tuna. Otherwise the chicken was mediocre and the halibut was not very flavorful and over cooked. My order came out wrong and the waiter indicated that he was confused (which is understandable) although my entire party acknowledged that they heard me ordered the steak and not the lobster - rather disappointed our waiter didn't offer to get it corrected. The four claws lobster dish was slightly elevated by the sauces and plating but was still unimpressive. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience but we will not revisit in the future. read more

What a wonderful experience to help ring in a milestone birthday. We made dinner reservations the night before for a party of 8 and managed to snag a table. First off, they got us in early on Christmas Eve. No easy feat, but much appreciated. The staff all greeted us with a warm, friendly smile and Merry Christmas! The vibe was warm, the lighting perfect, the Christmas decorations festive! The menu was very unique and inviting. I had eaten here about 15 years ago, and remembered the creative flare of the chef. The lamb cheeks were memorable (with lemon couscous), as were the scallops (recommended!) for the appetizers. For the entree's, I had the Halibut which was done beautifully, with a wonderful rock shrimp pumpkin risotto. Very yummy! The other entree's were no less impressive, with a deconstructed lobster (buttery goodness) accompanied with a thai guacamole and rice grits. We finished with a very creative desert of key lime pie and chocolate sesame cake. Incredible finish. Our waiter was very timely with all courses. We were never hungry or waiting! We'll be back soon! I finally made it into Ember after some false starts. The menu approach of choosing a starter, main and dessert from a limited set can be a little imposing. I found there were many things on each list that looked interesting and will be back to try some others later this season. Jess did a great job and made sure everything came out as it should when it should. The soup with a rabbit taco was very tasty and not too much food to start one off. The Elk was HUGE and really nice. I live more in medium rare+ land so I'd probably recommend medium for most folks unless you really go rare on your meats. It's a lean meat so you do have to be careful how well done you go. There just isnt a lot of fat to cook off. Then the blueberry pie for dessert was really nice. The whipped cream, hazelnut, lemon curd and maybe one other thing on the plate let you really experiment if you are a perfect bite eater--you know who you are. Disgusting. One of the worst meals of my life. Ember describes itself with words and phrases like "creative" and "poetry in food". I think they forgot that if the super creative ingredient mash up doesn't actually taste good then you shouldn't serve it. The place has a nice atmosphere. A converted house. A little dark. Service was nice enough, also. The service was somewhat slow, but there was a really large party, and at least our waitress kept us posted on the kitchen. Honestly, the food was so bad that any ding on slow service could not have brought this down any further. They are only doing a three course prix fixe menu. Appetizer, entree, and dessert. $75. I should have known that something was up when the waitress brought out some sort of flatbread/cracker. I've had this sort of thing before, but this one tasted bitter, and we discovered that Ember seemed to be using old frying oil for everything, as this theme continued with other dishes. The cracker also apparently had a sheen of oil to match the taste. It was served with some sort of dip, that my kids said tasted like lemon yoplait yogurt (it did). Like most dishes that day, if just didn't work, and I don't know why someone at Ember didn't realize that. On to appetizers. I had the Mac and cheese piquillo pepper. Utterly disgusting. I tried to eat some, and looked over at my daughter. She was not enjoying her dish either, and said "like you're eating to be polite". That's exactly what it felt like. There was a sort of salad with olives with it. Nothing good. Should have gotten the scallops, which my wife had, and which may have been the only good dish of the night. Two of my kids had the lamb tacos. The shells were more evidence of old and bitter oil, as they had the same flavor as the chips. My main was the wagyu New York strip. I'm going to list everything with it: tamari-fig potato hash . bok choy . edamame hummus . miso mushroom brown butter sauce. None of it remotely enhanced the below average steak, which had a cap of fat I've never encountered with Kobe or wagyu beef. In fact, all components were practically inedible. Looking around, no one else had it any better. The presentation was completely off putting, especially of the Brie and crepe lasagna, which looked it was the scene of a violent crime. Did I mention slow service? We had been there two hours by now, with plate after plate of disgusting food. Very big party, but they should know how to manage this. Plus I just wanted out, so we took dessert to go. I got the espresso cinnamon roll. Sounds good, right? Opened it up back home, and it looked like the inside of a diaper. I've been dining at Ember many years and I thought it was time to write a 5 star review to support this chef owned restaurant. While I have dined in the restaurants dining room many times and always thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and service, I now find myself enjoying cocktails, wine and great food in the bar. Warning, the bar can be very busy and sometimes a little loud during happy hour, but it has a great vibe. If you want to be assured a seat, come after 7 or be there right at opening. That said, happy hour offers a 2 for 1 deal on appetizers. I'll start with Scotty, the owner, an incredibly creative and talented chef. Each dish is an adventure and meticulously plated. There's always a lot going on with flavors that are always uniquely paired with the dish. I always ask what the soup is as it is never the same and always a delicious adventure. If I'm not in the mood for soup, I'll jump to my default starters - the boar tenderloin medallions (the best I've ever had) or the mouth watering hamachi crudo. The short rib empanada is also outstanding. My go to entree is the wagyu New York steak - incredible flavor and truly melts in your mouth (at under $50 this is an incredible value). You won't go wrong with the lamb, snapper or scallops either - each uniquely prepared as a culinary adventure. This last Friday evening I had a wonderful time dining at the bar and enjoyed the empanada, rack of lamb and finished with the over-the-top strawberry stuffed French toast with miso-banana mousse. If you are really in the mood for an adventure ask about the current offering of their homemade ice cream - I guarantee you will not find anything like it anywhere else. In addition to great food, Ember has a great cocktail and wine list that has been carefully curated by Sam, Ember's bartender. Sam is personable and goes above and beyond to create a "Cheers" type atmosphere in the bar, making sure her guests feel warm and welcome and takes pride in trying to know everyone by name. She also makes a killer Old Fashioned. If you enjoy Manhattan's ask about the "Gentlemen's Manhattan" (not on the menu). Be sure to take a peek at the wine list, it includes some real gems. If you are ever looking for an after dinner night-cap, stop in and see Sammy! She's great! Came here for a big group dinner for my bachelor party - it was AWESOME. Forget the fact that we were in Breckenridge for skiing, this could be a fine dining hotspot in any major city. The service was impeccable, especially given we were 10 rowdy guys between 2 tables with short staff. They have papdum as the bread they bring out with raita, so good. Everything is prix fixe, I got the boar phyllo dough, cod with hollandaise, and cinnamon roll coffee cake. The boar was out of this world, so glad I got it. The cod was perfectly cooked and everything that accompanied it was delicious. My favorite thing of the night was what my brother ordered, the chorizo stuffed quail. Absolutely delicious. Ember is my favorite restaurant in Breckenridge. Over the years the food scene has improved dramatically in Breckenridge and Ember is at the top of my list. The cuisine is not what you expect to find in a mountain town. The creativity of the chef is beyond compare. The mixture of ingredients, textures and flavors makes Ember a special dining experience. This is true, not only for the entrées, but also for the appetizers and desserts. Not only is the dining experience one of the best in Breckenridge, the happy hour is the best in town!!! I will admit that this is the only restaurant I have been to and sat in since the pandemic started. I was in Breckenridge with Eric R.'s family, and his uncle wanted to treat us to a nice meal. Both his uncle and I are the two least interested in eating at a restaurant right now, so we were able to secure the top floor private room of Ember, which has its own outside staircase entrance, and the doors were wide open to the outside. We had a party of 9, and in Colorado, 8 is the limit per table, so in the private room, we had three adults in 2 kids on the wall-side of one table and four adults on the other so we could face each other across the small room. Uncle and I sat at the heads of the tables next to the open doors, and our 8:15 PM reservations meant that at 9:00 PM as the restaurant closed, the tables down the staircase that were visible emptied soon after. We had great service in our space, and I felt quite comfortable considering it was a new experience for me during the pandemic. I started with a glass of champagne, and the rest of the adults got either the blueberry crush or pear-tini. We were given pappadums and raita for dipping sauce, and they were delightfully addictive. For apps, I started with the clam ramen in kabosu broth with conch rangoon, and Eric R. got the short rib bao. Both were excellent, as his beef was meltingly tender but crisp at the same time. My broth was delicious and the rangoon was piping hot. For entrees, I got the scallops with kosho polenta, yuzu pearls, and colorful cauliflower. Eric R. got the lamb osso bucco with kimchi, bok choy, and mochi dumplings. We enjoyed each other's dish. I shared a scallop with my mother-in-law who loves them, since she opted for the halibut. My nieces enjoyed lemonades, and one had fried chicken from the kid's menu (the other brought her own cheerios). We thought that was filling enough until the dessert menu came out. While the others opted for cakes and whatever, my brilliant niece and I perked up at the ice cream special of the day: chai! No joke, just hours earlier I had attended the Yelp Sweet 16 chai event from Houston, and my mind was on chai though I could not make it on vacay. I was SO glad I ordered the ice cream, as it was freakin' delicious. It seemed to have some cake and white chocolate on the bottom, and the flavors were so good together. Eric R. tasted all desserts and declared the ice cream to be the best. I ended the evening with a class of brut rose sparkling. I am glad the restaurant made us feel comfortable, arranging us in a way where we could be in the same room and away from other people. Don't be fooled by other reviews like we were! I truly cannot describe how awful this meal was. Intricate plating does not make up for poorly thought out combinations, terrible finishes on the food (everything was massively overcooked), and an extremely high price point. Nothing about this meal was good. The textures, the flavors, the price was all insane. I have had the privilege of living in this area and trying many very good restaurants from Modis to Hearthstone. However last night on a whim I walked into Ember with my partner for dinner without a reservation! You could sit in the main dining room with a prefixed 3 course or the bar for A La Carte which we chose the bar. Will was the bartender for the evening. He handed us menus as well as a full Gluten Free menu upon request. For a drink we went with the He-man which was perfectly balanced and delish. For all three choices, app, main course, and desert, we narrowed down to two choices and asked will to make the ultimate decision. He was spot on! The boar phyllo was amazing to start! Everything complimented one another and worked very well together. For our main, he chose the Buffalo Steak for us! Wow. That's really all I have to say. !Warning to customers with life threatening tree nut allergies! At Ember on the Saturday before New Years Eve 2023, my family member was exposed to a tree nut allergen despite our advising our lovely waiter specifically about the details of the allergy and receiving assurances from the kitchen that the dish had no Walnuts, Pecans, Pistachio or Brazil nuts in it nor could it have been cross contaminated. We alerted Connor immediately after the symptoms of exposure began and removed ourselves from the dining area to administer an Epinephrine injector. One injector was not enough due to the amount of cross contamination in my family member's soup/soft shelled crab. Our entire party had to leave after just the appetizer to spend the rest of the evening with our family member in the Frisco hospital ER. It was an absolutely horrifying experience. It's been especially disturbing that a manager never came to our table during the 20 min from the first symptoms and the 2 episodes of removing ourselves from the small dining room to go outside to use the Epinephrine injectors. No one has called over the last 3 days to check on the status of our family member and I have not received a response to my contact email requesting to speak with a manager or the chef/owner. This is appalling as this tree nut cross contamination threatened my family member's life. read more

My husband and I spent the weekend in Breck for our anniversary. It was an impromptu trip so I didn't book any reservations ahead of time. After reading many reviews for $$$ or $$$$ in Breck I decided to try and get a reservation at Ember. We were able to get one and looked forward to a fine dining experience in one of the best towns in Colorado. FOOD -The restaurant was only offering the pre fixe menu of two courses for $50 or three courses for $60. I knew this going into the meal and had an idea of what I wanted to order. Kindle (Appetizer) - Gluten Free Arugula Salad: fuji apple crisps, truffle tremor goat cheese, crystalized macadamia, smoked soy balsamic, edamame and polenta croutons. I opted to skip the edamame and polenta croutons because they are prepared with gluten containing foods (I can't remember if it's a shared fryer or a shared prep area...). Without the croutons, I paid $25 for lettuce, cheese, apples, nuts and a sauce that lacked any unique flavor and balance (likely missing a salty flavor from the croutons). Blaze (Main Course) - Gluten Free Iberico Pork: golden raisin chutney, cauliflower, apricot and madras curry sauce. The pork was chewy. One piece was seasoned well (salt and pepper) the other was not. The lemongrass and curry flavors were not my favorite (preference). -------- Kindle (Appetizer) - Not [prepared] Gluten Free Lamb Cheeks: wasabi beet gnocchi, shishito pesto, garlic molasses gelee', cucumber salad, miso butterscotch sauce. AMBIANCE -The restaurant is dimly lit and from the outside and entryway looks like what I would expect of a fine dining restaurant. As we were escorted to our table, nestled quite closely to the other tables, I sat on the bench seat and immediately noticed that my view included a window that looked directly onto a garage (or something similar) and a DUMPSTER. Every time I looked over my husband's shoulder, I saw a dumpster and was taken out of the "mood" of the restaurant. The art and general decor is interesting and a good topic of conversation. They had one small candle on the table, no music, no real ambiance...nothing that made it stand out. The dress code seemed to be "Colorado casual". A few people were dressed up but only if their whole table was. Most had on sneakers, comfy but stylish pants or shorts and short sleeves shirts. We will not be returning. read more
