Review is for their happy hour. They are pretty nut allergy friendly; even ordering the cheese plate, they put the almonds on the side upon request. We arrived at 3:52PM on a Saturday and were first in line for a happy hour. Every table was taken by 4:21PM, along with most of the bar seating. I ordered two beers ($4 a piece), two orders of the mochiko Chicken ($10 each), one order of the artisan cheese plate ($12), and one order of the beef tip steamed buns ($12). $4 beers: can't complain. 10/10 Mochiko Chicken (5/5*): *I would be careful ordering this with any drinks or other dishes. It has some serious spice kick! Artisan Cheese Plate (2/5): Not really worth it in my opinion, one cheese was essentially a basic brie. The other two were ok, but we could have used more crackers. I think my score is lower because I couldn't eat the almonds. Beef Tip Steamed Buns (4.5/5): Two beef buns that have some great flavor, very much like a bulgogi bao. One of my buns had a lot more meat than the other, but they were still both pretty good. Service was fast and friendly. They did an excellent job of keeping our water cups topped off and confirming we didn't need anything else. Another fantastic Hearthstone meal! This is our go-to in Breckenridge for upscale meals, and it always delivers the goods. They were ready for us at our reservation time, and the service was on point. Two of us had the rack of lamb (again) and were delighted. We won with the apps - the cheese board (probably the best deal in Breck) and the lobster ravioli - and that set us up well. The seasoning is just enough on the outer crust, perfectly cooked to a medium, and joined with a whipped sweet potatoes and broccolini. The black cod was cooked superbly and the sauce was rich without being too heavy. Our fourth had the scallops and they disappeared fast (likely b/c they were a little small / one was missing for that sort of dish). It was a very unexpected snowy evening and my in laws were in town. They requested going to one very nice restaurant/meal while we were in Breckenridge. Hearthstone was the perfect place to meet these requirements. We were greeted when we entered, offered to take out coats and promptly seated. Note, I did make a reservation online. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and checked with us throughout the meal. I wouldn't recommend getting out Hearthstone in with an upscale steak house type feel with unique twists on red meat options - elk, bison, short ribs, filet. My in laws were very impressed as well. We didn't get dessert because we were all stuffed from our large portions. It is in a beautiful old restored home and the history is quite interesting. We were recommended this place by a friend and the food was phenomenal!! I would say I was pretty disappointed by the lack of celebration this place showed us. We were spending our anniversary there and indicated such in the reservation. The hostess was super friendly and even said happy anniversary to us when we arrived. Then not a single recognition from our server or anyone else going forward. This is a special occasion place and the least the server could do is recognize this. This anniversary was a big deal but us and we left the restaurant feeling disappointed because of it. I will end with saying the espresso martini was amazing and every single food item was mouth watering. From the appetizers of mussels and octopus to the special entree, lamb shank. I really wanted to like it here. It's hyped as one of the best restaurants in the area, but it really was meh for me. We got there early and got seated late. Waited for the waiter for a while, said he'd bring bread, waited until our meal to come. We started with the mussels which was delicious. My bison short rib was really inedible. The kale was too salty and the short ribs were not tender. The dessert was good, but nothing spectacular. The worst part was the ambiance. The table sitting behind me was YELLING the whole time, I couldn't even hear my table sitting right in front of me. We ordered the app special muscles (good but the bread dipped in the sauce was even better) and also octopus (ok, but the sausage that came with it was great), and ahi tuna (very good and had pickled veggies loaded with flavor.) I had the elk and wife had the scallops. Elk was good, and different from traditional steak. Brussels side was not as good as I was expecting. Scallops were very good though it was small portion. The grit cake side was delicious. Finished the night with a pecan crusted crème brûlée (divine) and espresso martini (one of the best I've had.). Wow! My boyfriend and I came up to Breckenridge to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. He chose Heartstone as our dinner spot, and he crushed it! Menu, food & preparation, host desk staff, table service, ambiance ... all excellent, as always. We come to Hearthstone each year on our engagement anniversary when we visit Colorado, and they have consistently provided the special dining experience we seek. The always-unexpected "Happy Anniversary" complimentary sparkling wine makes our evening even more memorable. We did encounter one surprising disappointment this visit, however, that being a "3% kitchen surcharge" that was added onto on our final bill. "Kitchen Surcharge" at a high-end restaurant seems like nickel and diming when the typical cost for two will be around $200, not to mention that it is a restaurant, after all, and cannot do business without a kitchen and kitchen staff. News of the new surcharge is buried in the "Our Story" section on Hearthstone's website, and it is explained as providing their employees a "livable wage" by splitting the surcharge among the kitchen staff. Strongly recommend Hearthstone drop that practice and, instead, simply pay their kitchen staff a "livable wage" if they are not already doing so, before it results in loyal customers feeling taken advantage of. Everything else, as I say, was top-notch and worthy of returning again next year. read more

Hearthstone is our go to place in Breckenridge and really Summit County. We most often go during the shoulder seasons with their set menu as it can be a bit expensive but anytime and everytime we have been, the food and everything else have been terrific. The best lamb chops this side of Ireland (or New Zealand), mushroom salad, the elk is incredible (my wife's favourite) and just everything is superb. The service was fine, but they missed on basics I'd expect for a restaurant at this price point - not refilling our waters, no appetizer plates and not clearing our bread/appetizer plates when our entrees arrived. Our waiter was very kind and made sure we were happy with all the food and drinks. The blackberry elk had so much flavor! I'm not a lamb chops person, but if I were, I would rate those highly, too. LOVED the mushroom truffle farro risotto and roasted asparagus tips that came with the chops. If you go to Breckenridge, you have to stop by this place. However, the wait staff was interesting and not in a good way. One in particular was talking about the tables and people, which I do not feel it should happen to where others dinning can hear it, maybe go to the kitchen to talk. Best meal for our Breck trip. Good food, good service, and a nice place. Compared to other places we tried, this place is fantastic. We started with the lobster ravioli and spicy salmon latke. I did not care for the latke, but I think it's just my taste. The ravioli was delicious. The portion was a little small to share much, but it was worth it. For my main I had the bison short ribs. Fantastic! And a pretty large portion. I ended up taking half back to our lodge. Service was the best we've had in a long time - very friendly and knowledgeable waitress. The place is nice as well, especially if you can get one of the coveted front tables upstairs (we did not - they are hard to get). As soon as you walk in the door, you notice how cozy the atmosphere is. It's reminiscent of an old bed and breakfast, which makes you feel instantly at home. Our waiter was absolutely lovely and assisted with some of our tough decisions, thankfully, because everything we ordered ended up being incredible. The ahi tuna appetizer was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. There was just something about the crunchy yuca chips combined with the soft tuna that made each bite even better than the last. For my entrée, I was having a hard time deciding between the Alaskan Black Cod and the Wagyu Flat Iron Steak. The cod sounded more appetizing, but the sides of the wagyu were hard to beat. I informed our waiter of my predicament, and I was given the opportunity to order the cod with the wagyu sides. I have never been happier. The cod was soft and flaky and just fell apart to the touch, with a flavor like no other. The gnocchi was cooked to perfection and soaked in a dreamy parmigiano reggiano sauce. It was quite possibly the greatest meal I have ever eaten. Dessert was a perfect end to the meal, the English sticky toffee pudding was unlike anything I've ever had before. It was salty and sweet and soft and warm and just utterly delectable. 10/10. read more
