I had the ethiopian breakfast which is just eggs and injera, and a mango soda. I think the food was okay but prices were quite high. I'd rather have smaller portions/cheaper prices than a huge $$$ one
I stopped by this Ethiopian spot just outside DC and was blown away by how flavorful everything was. The injera was some of the softest bread I've had perfect for scooping up all the different dishes. Every item we tried was packed with flavor, and there were plenty of both vegetarian and meat options to choose from. Inside it's a bit on the cramped side, especially if you're coming with a larger group, but there is additional seating toward the left side once you get inside which helps. The woman working there was an absolute sweetheart and helped me a ton when I felt a little overwhelmed by all the menu options. She was patient, kind, and gave great recommendations. Overall, really delicious food and a welcoming experience. I would definitely return.
This was our best meal in DC, by far. The eclectic Ethiopian breakfast menu was wild (and maybe a bit overwhelming), but amazing. The injera and egg dishes were unreal, but it was clear you could not go wrong here. The seating felt like someone's home, with various couches and coffee tables filling the restaurant. The coffee was one of the standout things they served; I'm not sure what they're doing with the coffee, but it was one of the better quality coffees I think I've ever had. Huge fan of this place, and would definitely return!!
So this place is fascinating -- great food, chill vibe, toddler doable-ish with some creativity... Food/drinks: veg platter (works for two - fyi), Ethiopian breakfast, smoothie, and tea were all fantastic. Gluten free injeera is available for surcharge. Well seasoned. And enjoy the spicy homemade green sauce as well; it's worth it! Service: Fine but you do have to do some work. You stand in line, order at the counter, and then they bring the food to you wherever you're sitting. Comes quick-ish. Ambiance: quirky. Main room has traditional furniture with royal-like chairs; it was crowded and people were working from there. Outside there's a heated patio situation; it's all bumper to bumper but we snagged a perfect space for a toddler. Lingering is not the norm for group meal/date. Kid-friendly? Saw no high chairs, would not want to bring stroller in, did find seating space that let her move more freely. Best part: this place is not precious. I'm not mad at it. Would do it again!
Had brunch here with a DC local, recently. It really is a diamond in the rough and feels like a NYC bodega. The staff were very friendly and I liked the decor inside, feels really unique. I ordered the ETHIOpian STYLE X (Sambosa) with the eggs and injera. It was very cooked very well, and I enjoyed the spices and flavor profile. I wished the particular dish came with more options, although this place has plenty of choices on the menu. Heat Da Spot a fast casual experience, unlike a late-night dining experience at somewhere like CherCher. However, place is bustling with locals for great reason. It works for meeting up with friends or grab-and-go meals. I'd highly recommend to drop by for a visit!

Everything at this place is so unbelievably BOMB. The menu is killer and has something for everyone. The service is so kind. They have a very cool coffee selection. Everything is priced exactly the way it should be. There's seating outside for small parties. This place is the embodiment of DC cuisine and I highly recommend it for everyone.
When you walk into Heat Da Spot it automatically feels like you've stepped into your grandma's kitchen--homey and filled with love. There's highlight menus everywhere on the wall with things that they offer. What stood out most was the sign above the register that says, " Do not rush the chef. We're not fast food. Your food is made with love. Place your order and sit on the throne kings and queens" lol I loved this sign so much. It reminded me to chill out so I sat down and enjoyed a soursop drink while my to go order was being made. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Unfortunately I was not really a fan. It seemed like a small portion for the price. The egg tasted weird and microwaved and the bagel tasted like a Thomas bagel you would get from the grocery store. The bagel also came with a special spicy green sauce that I wasn't too fond of. I think the next time I will just go for the Ethiopian breakfast. Service was great, I'll return to try something else.
Lovely experience. The staff is so kind and welcoming. My omelette had an abundance of vegetables and quite savory. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

3 years later and Heat Da Spot remains one of my favorite spots in DC. I love their traditional Ethiopian breakfast, but literally everything on the menu is delicious! And the service is amazing--you can really tell the love and care they put into every meal they make.
I happened to be in Washington DC for work and stumbled across this spot close to the Howard University Campus. I went with the Sausage Omelette and added bacon. This thing was AMAZING. It was packed with green peppers, tomatoes, red onions, potatoes and cheese. The toast came with light butter and a honey drizzle. If you are OK with somewhere where the decor is not so fancy, this place is a GEM. The owner was so accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure I enjoyed the experience. Their honey cinnamon iced coffee with cream was a winner. Oh, I was also able to log onto my laptop to get a few work items done due to the free WIFI. Please check them out.

It's our first Ethiopian food experience! Amazing food and people! Even my picky daughter loves it here! It's a little hole in the wall place with out of this world customer service. If you're ever in the Washington DC area, you have to definitely make it out here! The owner of the restaurant is so hospitable. He definitely knows what customer service is which many establishments lack. This little place is so warm and inviting. We wish we discovered this place sooner so we can try all the food. One more thing, the special sauce is ohhh soooo good!!! read more

I can't tell you how much I love this place and how guilty I feel for living in the neighborhood for close to 4 years without dining here! The staff is so warmly friendly and generous. Order at the counter and take a seat outside on the patio. The staff will bring your order to you in a very timely fashion. We got iced coffees with oat milk and the Ethiopian breakfast with an extra samosa (usually comes with just one.) Portions are ample and we had a little trouble finishing the meal but there was nothing left on the plate when we left!!! Halfway through our breakfast, our server asked if we wanted more injera and we hemmed and hawed for a second and then he said "please say yes" and brought us out another beautifully rolled up flat bread. We were also reminded that our iced coffees could be refilled during the meal which we definitely enjoyed. Only minor concern was the lentil filling inside the samosa was cold but still very flavorful and the outside pastry was perfectly crisp. Overall, the food is incredible, the service is impeccable and I'll be coming back over and over again. read more

Not sure if I love the service or the food here more. The portions are LARGE and CHEAP. So happy that I live in this neighborhood, and this place is an OG of the growing foodie scene in the area. The staff (who I'm pretty sure are also the owners) treat you like family, genuinely asking how you are. The food, while nothing fancy, is heavily seasoned in a way that is not overpowering - my friend said his Club Sandwich was the best he's ever had. The vibe is homey, comforting and quirky. Not much seating inside, but a good amount on the little patio outside. You must go. read more

What a great little place! I stopped in for a late lunch while in the neighborhood. The staff couldn't have been more friendly. I ordered a sandwich and then sat down on their couch to relax and wait for my order. This is not a corporate place, more of a mom and pop spot with lots of character. I liked that about it. The menu was on a board behind the counter and drinks were from a cooler. My steak sandwich was delicious and tasted very fresh. It was served with lettuce and tomato on a nice crusty roll. The lady who helped me offered an amazing green hot sauce they make there for my sandwich, you should ask for it too!! read more

BEST SALMON BURGER I've had in my entire life!!! And let's not forget about their secret sauce which is to die for!! This place is hands down one of the best spots in DC. Delicious! The staff is super friendly and personable. There wasn't a line to order when we came in for Sunday breakfast but there were A LOT of people waiting for food. We did wait quite a long time to get our food but it was worth it. We enjoyed our coffee and conversation in the meantime. The Ethiopian style breakfast was tasty - make sure you try the secret sauce! My friend's bacon and egg sandwich was huge. Great food for a low price. read more

I can't even explain how great this place is! Everything is made fresh and delicious! Moved from the Bay Area a year ago and this has been my go to place. The best item on their menu has to be the "chechebsa and eggs" for me and second is the Ethiopian breakfast platter. The smoothies are refreshing and delicious. Another item that I found absolutely delicious was the lentil soup. I had the tuna sandwich today which was just fantastic. I've sent my picky vegan sister there and she gave them 2 thumbs up (very rare occasion). They have outdoor seating as well and can't wait for the inside to open because the atmosphere inside there is just perfect! Remember, everything is made fresh there so if you are in a rush make sure you order ahead. Even the samosa is made to order (yes really) and it's nice, warm and FRESH when you get it! And last but not least everyone I met there that works there are very sweet and genuinely nice. Thank you guys. read more

Amazingggg!!!! This place was absolute the best...I had a long layover at the train station and met up with a former college friend. I got the croissant with bacon egg and cheese and the homemade waffle. Fresh, hot, amazing! Could tell they had just made the bacon and the waffle was perfect! My friend got the chicken sandwich with friends - the best fries ever and he said the chicken was the best. Add in the special sauce (taste like a big inclusion of avocados with a sip ice) and honey mustard that feels like they put real honey in it!! Went here on a brisk Sunday morning and luckily snagged two seats. It gets quite crowded here, so just watch out if you're coming with a bunch of people and don't want to sit outside. Now for the food: I ordered the Ethiopian breakfast scramble, and it was INCREDIBLE. I ate every single bite of it, and sopped up the remaining (healthy, I was told, so no guilt here) oil from the eggs with the injera rolls. The eggs were delightfully spiced and seasoned in a way that makes my mouth water just recalling it; although you will feel very full towards the end, you will persevere and finish it all as well! read more

Got a pretty good and fresh cup of decaffeinated coffee here in this local non-chain funky little cafe. I didn't get anything to eat but they had a big breakfast and lunch menu and seem to make a lot of dishes wirh waffles. read more

A true gem in the city of DC. This family owned establishment, although small, is warm and cozy decorated with couches a small book case and many artwork sprawled along the walls. We dined in for breakfast, ordering incredible chocolate chip waffles (which they don't usually have but made it specially for my friend and I) and the veggie omletee. You are treated like family with their caring service. If you happen to be in the area, definitely stop by! read more
