Sorry for the length of this review - however, I want to be thorough and give Heat NW / Mark the credit he deserves! I had no knowledge of Heat NW or Mark prior to selecting him to work on my home. I needed a complete HVAC remodel and spent about 1 year researching the remodel from every angle myself. I am a life-long and capable DIY person, and after researching HVAC for 1 year, it was very obvious that HVAC is not a DIY project. With that being said, the knowledge I had gained over my 1 year of research still went to use: I was able to weed out contractors who I would not want working on my home. I was searching for a very good contractor who deserved my money and was going to do high quality work. After having several contractors out to evaluate my home's HVAC situation, Mark was hands down the most squared away individuals I encountered. I may have lacked the knowledge to perform the project completely on my own, but I knew enough information to discern who was a detail oriented HVAC tradesmen and who wasn't. Mark spent 2 hours looking through my house and deciding what options would be best for the house / me, while also specifically addressing challenges associated with the project (I was already aware of the challenges, but Mark was able to quickly tell me everything I had spent 1 year researching). He was the only contractor who spent a decent amount of time with me: he climbed in the attic, actually wore a dust mask, and took measurements (he didn't even know if I was going to select him for the job or not at this point). I learned quickly that Mark was very knowledgable and thorough. My biggest caution to others out there is: you will run into a lot of HVAC contractors who operate under "rules of thumb" - HVAC is NOT a place where "rule of thumbs" should be used. There is a lot of math, calculating, and measuring that goes into pre-planning an HVAC project. After selecting him for the job, it was very obvious through the working phases and final product that Mark is phenomenal at what he does. I cannot sing enough of his praises. Mark also started his career in the trades as a pipe fitter - he is very talented in this area as well. This means mark can plumb any gas lines you may need himself, which saves time having to coordinate with someone else to do this kind of work. Mark is also someone who cares enough to point out other issues that he may notice about a home, even if they are not related to HVAC. This is an invaluable quality, because homeowners spend nearly no time in their attic or underneath their house - so when Mark observes ANY issue, he will still go out of his way to point out the problem and tell you what needs to be done to fix it. Lastly, Mark has some really great apprentices working for him. It is nice to see a small business owner passing on quality knowledge to the next generation of trades workers. Mark Johnson has restored my faith in honest, knowledgeable service. I had my AC go out during a heatwave , so I called my Home service protection and filed a claim. The technician sent out said my AC was toast and sold me on upgrading to a costly heat pump. As a second opinion I contacted Mark through a friends recommendation and described the symptoms over the phone. Mark diagnosed the problem as being a 10.00 retail part. He drove to Tacoma and checked it out in person where he discovered that I was lied to by the other company who just wanted to make money by selling me on an expensive upgrade that I didn't need. Mark's over the phone diagnosis was CORRECT. He saved me lot's of money, and showed me there are still people who do business with Knowledge, Skill and Integrity! Thanks Mark! More recently this summer 2016 during another heatwave my AC stopped working so I had a company recommended to me by a friend, come out and diagnose the problem. Once again, the technician claimed my compressor was shot. I was skeptical, so I called another local company to come out and give me their diagnosis. I told him about my experience years earlier where Mark had saved me by correctly diagnosing my issue as being the capacitor, ( the 10.00 part). Well guess what? This technician said it was the capacitor this time also and that he could replace it for 197.00. I said, no thanks I'll have my friend Mark help me. Once again, Heat NW saves the day!! read more

I have been calling around to get estimates from many of the other companies around and all they would do is jump right to setting an appointment and gave me absolutely no idea about the cost I was getting into. I then called Heat NW and I spoke with Mark about my furnace and heat pump being out, just based on the phone call their customer service is head and shoulders above the rest. He gave me a ballpark based on my situation (and I completely understand without actually testing the equipment that the final estimate could vary depending on multiple variables, but just getting a low-high figure in my head helps). Mark installed a new furnace for us as the old one was on its last leg. When he bid the job he pointed out a couple of deficiencies from when the system was orginally was installed 20+ years ago. During the installation he corrected these. He also ran into a couple of unseen items that he had to correct before he could install the new furnace. He knew my wife had End Stage Kidney Disease and was on dialyiss so he work late into the Saturday evening and Sunday so we could have heat. Mark was very knowledgeable and professional. I am so thankful I was referred to Michael. I had an exceptionally complicated project that required someone with more technical knowledge. I was skeptical it could be done. Not only did Micheal solve my engineering type problem but he is extremely efficient at his work. He communicated clearly at each step and worked efficiently (which I appreciated) I believe he is one of the most diverse and skilled HVAC/electrical engineer you can hire. Mark is a technical expert. His attention to detail is phenomenal and when my old Trane system finally goes, he'll do the install for a new Rheem system. He has been helping me to salvage my current system for a couple years, never putting pressure on me to buy a new furnace and heat pump even though the old one is 25 years old. Mark from Heat NW installed a new furnace/heat pump for us in our home. The previous one did not work. Mark was able to move the system from under the house to our garage - a much preferred location. He fixed much of our old duct work, and now we have a very efficient, new HVAC system. Even had a third party test it - and it passed with a better grade than expected.
