I think this place has better donuts then voodoo. Everything is fresh and made and taste sooooo good!

Normally the donuts have been above par. Today my husband bought some apple fritters home that were so oily they dripped large amounts of oil. It's as if they were fried prior to the oil being hot enough, causing the fritters to absorb a large amount of oil. I'm not one to turn down an apple fritter but in this case I ate half and threw away 2 1/2. read more

Oh look out now! Some donut wizards from Northern California are about to rock your donut world. People from Boston will tell you that's a donut town. I disagree - it's a DUNKIN Donut town but being able to get the same exact donut at 150 locations in one city is not really a plus. Now, my homeland of East LA features an indie donut shop (and a liquor store) on every intersection worthy of a traffic light. I submit that California is donut land. These guys came from Redding, it seems (yeah, not even close to LA but whatevah) and had a handful of Winchells franchises. But the donuts featured at Heavenly are way, way beyond Winchells in both quality and scale. This location is perched on McLoughlin just about the spot I remember I'm hungry as I approach Oregon City in the morning. It's not conveniently accessed for the southbound traveler, but once one of their apple fritters has passed your lips, the maneuver required to get in and out of their parking lot will be insignificant. A cluster of retired guys seem to own the table in front and they nod in greeting every time I stop in. The woman behind the counter is friendly and quick and I'm on my way again with only a right turn, a legally questionable U turn and another left. In my thirty eight years, never have I encountered a donut like Heavenly Donuts. They seem like any other donut shop, but never before have I found the perfect balance between the oil and dough. My favorite is an old-fashioned, which seems straight-forward enough, no? Here they create quite possibly the best one you have ever tried. There are ridges and crannies perfectly covered in sweet icing. The dough is straight out of the oven, and we went at one o'clock today and still, not a stale donut in sight, they always taste fresh. They are 24-hours here so any time you get a craving for your favorite donut, they are here for you. My only advice is, that while they usually have your favorite donut, always be prepared with a second choice because some times they run out - especially of the buttermilk bars or the glazed old fashioned. Portland has a weird obsession with donuts. You know what they are - globs of dough conditioners, white bromated flour and lard drenched in heated oil splattered with high fructose or other sweetenened frosting. That's what a donut consists of - so no matter if you're at Voodoos with stale cereal on top or Sugar Momma's where 14 minutes of fame on the Food Network won't stop you from making terrible business decisions. Either way you look at it, Portland, donuts need not be so special to be good. Luckily we have Heavenly Donuts in Gladstone where we can stop off on a rainy day (like today) after spending 1 1/2 hours in gridlock coming home from work. I'm not a heavy guy so I can afford a few thousand wasted calories but it was oh so Heavenly. I like the service, the ample parking in their lot unlike some places you risk your life crossing the street to get to and there is plenty of places to sit and visit and enjoy your donuts. It's not noisy like some other places nor do they force you to tip them - you just want to because of their genuine service. They make good donuts. And they have a great selection. If you want limited choices, fight traffic and/or fight for a place to park which just adds to the headache, go on - visit those "other" places. But if you want a good donut, a hot cup of coffee and a place to hang out, read the paper and enjoy your time, get Heavenly, at Heavenly Donuts. read more

Hide your kids. Hide your wife. Hide your husband. These doughnuts are nasty! Looking through reviews for this place (the last one written in the summer of 2010) I decided to give it a try. Hey, I was in the right, um, 'frame of mind' really late on a Thursday night. I wanted a maple bar (or 20). The place is dingy, not completely unclean, but something was amiss. Later I realized the amiss feeling I felt was due to the lack of delicious doughnut smell in the air..... There was one skeevy guy sitting at the counter (sorry guy, I speak the truth), and one skeevy guy behind the counter. The guy behind the counter didn't look like he had good enough personal hygiene to mop the floors, let alone make or serve doughnuts, but I was there so I thought I'd go ahead and get a few. Upon perusing the case while making my selections I noticed a few things: The doughnuts looked completely lack-luster, and there was a very poor selection, especially considering that they are a 24-hour place. Particular things I noticed included cracked frosting on frosted cake doughnuts, and glazed raised doughnuts that appeared weeks old, shriveled, and dry looking. Not to mention the sunken-in-the-middle chocolate bars. Yea, did I mention, they had NO maple bars! *sad face* Yes friends, despite these observations I went ahead and tried some. Like I said, the reviews I'd read were good and I was in the right frame of mind. A not-so-Heavenly dozen was $8.99. I don't really need to mention that I'd rather have burned that nine bucks for the fun of watching it burn instead of spending it on these devilcakes. I get the dozen home (I was sharing!) and upon opening the box I notice that the sour/funky smell of spoiled yeast. Yup, their dough had obviously gone bad. On first bite there was a twang of ripeness and a sour yeast taste. Lovely. The frosting and glazes did in fact taste like they had gone stale weeks ago. What didn't have a stale, tangy or offensive taste had absolutely no taste. I got a coconut doughnut and the coconut was so old that both the flavor AND the texture had changed. YUCK! I threw them all away and cursed the skeevy dirty guy that sold them to me. Run far, far away. read more

A Couple of the other reviews on here are just goofy. I've had donuts all over town and Heavenly stacks up just fine without all the high price, stink and attitude of voodoo and much lower prices for larger donuts than donut world and some others. They have had maple bars, delicious maple bars every time i was there so maybe Kitty was in there late at night? My favorite is plain buttermilk bars with no icing. Very few donut shops leave them plain but I'm very happy when they do. It is a hole in the wall with old men hanging out but every good donut shop does and that's what old men do. So what? A dozen donuts for $8.99 is a great deal if compared to other donut shops that actually make their donuts. The taste is far above dunkin and krispy creme and they are much nicer. A classic donut shop. Completely devoid of Portland irony and utterly un-hip in every possible way. This is the donut shop your dad used to stop at to bribe you and your brothers for having to get up at 4 a.m., so your mom could drive him to work...in California... in the 80's!.. or maybe that was just me. Anyway, no kitch, no wacky, edgy or creative flavors just really very good versions of classic donuts. Served by a friendly staff in a fluorescent lit, linoleum tiled, plastic seated slice of childhood. Go. Eat. Love. But don't tell anybody... I'm not waiting in line for donuts, anywhere. A great place to get DONUTS. Nothing artisan like blue star, etc. But, they are good classic donuts done in a tasty way. The outside does not look that inviting, but it is just a simple place. Heard good things about this place so decided to go at 5 am on a Sunday morning. Closed! Sign on the door said they were closed for a Christmas celebration. "Open" sign was on and lights were on so was a real surprise when I tried to open the door and it was locked. Really good donuts. Love Blue Star in Portland but hey, if you're in OC or Gladstone , Heavenly Donuts is a good second best. DELICIOUS buttermilk bars. Decent coffee ( and the nice woman placed the carton of half and half-- REAL half and half!-on the counter for me to use before she filled up the carafe, as she noticed it sputtering. Open 24 hours. NOTHING in the area Is open 24 hours except Subway and one McD's I know of. So when you need something g sweet past 11p, this is the place to go! Or past 11a... When I visited. We went here today during the whole covid thing. I was impressed with the safety measures they had in place. Only three people could go in at once, and there were places designated on the floor where to stand. I was happy to be the only customer at the time. There is caution tape making you stand far away from the donut display which is covered with glass as usual. They had a really nice selection of donuts. The people who worked there were quite nice, patient and friendly, as I hemmed and hawed over which donuts to pick. When it came time to pay, there was a plexi glass shield over the counter with a sign telling you not to touch the counter. I handed over my card to pay, got it back, no signing, no receipt. I took the box of donuts and used hand sanitizer in the car. Easy peasy. When we got home everybody was very happy with the donuts. I should've taken a picture! They were all really delicious and fresh tasting at 10:30 am. We'll be back! read more

I resisted the urge to try this place as I thought of it as just another donut dive. Well eventually I ended up with some of their donuts and boy are they tasty! I am such a sucker for the cream filled chocolate covered ones and they are great here. The donuts are crispy and do not leave an oil slick in your mouth like some other places do. Their coffee is pretty decent too. This morning about 2 our power went out and so we went looking for "scene of the crime" and eventually found it. Ordered 20 dozen donut holes for a brunch. We came an hour early for pick up and the staff hurried to box them up for us. Really appreciated their accommodating our schedule change. WOW - The RUDEST staff ever!!! Like we were bothering them to even come in the store. Put your asbestos suit on before walking in and know you're getting 'tude from the moment you dare to even speak to them and force them to move off their chair. My daughter was sick so hubby and I decided to stop in and get her some donuts because she loves all their doughnut holes and our neighbor takes her. Asked for doughnut holes and the woman wouldn't even look at us - just grunted that they had none (according to my kid they usually have 6 types...so that was strange). And no crullers. And no fritters. And no puffies. What ya see is what ya get. Lord knows what you'll get after 5pm because after noon, there's not much. The tables were all dirty with crumbs all over them and we were the only two in there so why they hadn't even been wiped down is a mystery. Guess that takes away from TV time in the back. And folks, they're just donuts. No better or worse than anywhere else. I'd rather go to Safeway and get their donuts rather than deal with the gruff, rude woman who works there. read more

I'm from around the area, so I've been here quite often -- and for good reason. Their donuts are great. The yeast donuts -- the glazed rings and maple bars, for example -- are solid, with a crisp outside and chewy interior that one would expect of a yeast donut. However, the real star of this humble donut shop are their cake donuts - and boy do they have lots of them: plain, chocolate, cinnamon crunch, blueberry, and cherry, in addition to other ones I can't remember at the moment! A problem that cake donuts often have is that they're too dense; Heavenly's do not have this problem at all. They're wonderfully crisp and fluffy, and have the nice richness that you expect of a great cake donut. Just awesome. Service is pretty good, and the space itself is clean and quaint. No complaints here! As of this review, a baker's dozen (14 donuts) is $9.99 -- when compared to the gauntlet of donut shops in the Portland metro, Heavenly's offering most definitely holds its own. read more

If I'm driving across 205 after midnight, it takes some major willpower to keep from taking the 99 exit and stopping off here, because that's when the donuts are frrrreeeesh. The donuts are good all day, though. I LOVE me some Blue Star (NO VooDoo!), and I think these are made with just as much care. Not too sweet, great texture, none of that cheap shortening film you get on Safeway type donuts. Buttermilk Bars & Old Fashioned are where it's at for me, but sometimes I'll take a fresh Glazed Raised. I'm picky as hell, and I love this place. The staff have always been fine to me. read more

Pretty basic donuts. Nothing super special, but then again donuts don't need to be. Just smother them in chocolate and sprinkles...they could use more sugar though (I don't like things too sweet but these aren't the sweetest). I am giving this place a four star for being open 24 hours. Whether that is good or bad is up to you, but I know I crave sweets 24/7 and can't always find a place open. read more

I have been in Oregon my entire life and have eaten at many donut shops in my home state but when I finally visited this "Heavenly" place I was upset . . . the reason . . . because I should have visited this wonderful place years ago! My mother and brother tried to get me out there but I always had an excuse. They had morning coffee and donuts with some great local people and also had fun with the staff. I started going out there for my morning coffee and donut fix and I must say the entire staff are very accommodating and friendly. The "guys at the counter" are wonderful people who meet and greet customers as they arrive and leave. Sometimes they even carry the customers donuts out to their vehicle. Oh I almost forgot . . . the donuts . . . . they are some of the best in town, wait I mean the state! read more
