Fish Taco Tuesday takes new form when coming into this place. I know for sure that I will never go back to buying fish tacos anywhere else after going here last night. A good friend of mine took me here for $1 fish tacos last night. Naturally, I was expecting what I knew: a small piece of fish, a little bit of cabbage and white sauce, and then a wedge of lime. What I got was a million times better. The fish, first of all was a lot bigger than expected (insert inappropriate joke here), topped with shredded carrot, cabbage, white sauce, and an avocado wedge. It was ridiculous. I cannot believe how satisfied I was with these tacos because they were just that good. I do recommend calling in and ordering to go, however, because the place gets ridiculously crowded Tuesday nights, and they taste perfectly good elsewhere not just in the restaurant itself. I personally enjoyed mine at the tables outside of the Vons across the street, just a few minutes before walking in for a bit of grocery shopping. read more

Went there today for lunch. Walked in and got seated right away. They have outdoor and inside seating area. They start your of with chips and salsa. The chips were really warm so they were just made. The salsa was really yummy Mexican style but not too spicy just right. Had an order of the aguachile verdes (green)for appetizer. But asked if I could get them not too spicy since I know they can really be. When they were brought out it was presented nicely and they were pretty good with a spicy kick. I was about to be done with the appetizer when they brought us a complimentary seafood consommé. I would think it would be the first thing they were supposed to bring out. But by o mean it was pretty tasty and had some fish in it. For my main coarse I ordered the devil shrimp. They were spicy and surprised of how many shrimps were there. Wow nice!!! Cool place for a chill lunch. The waitress was okay checked up on us once but didn't even refill our drinks. When I think Mexican food, I think of those hole in the wall places that are named something "Berto's". So When the Boyfriend took me here i was pretty impressed. They have a cool looking fish tank when you first walk in, the dining area is fairly big, it's decorated really modern and most importantly it was clean. Yes, the food is a little pricey but it's because mostly every dish on the menu is seafood. If you want a plain 'ol Carne Asada Burrito, this is not the place to go just stick to those "Berto's" places. If you do make your way over I suggest the Shrimp Chimmichanga or the Combonacion Burrito(w/ the creamy chipotle sauce...it's pretty spicy) the portions are big It comes with rice, beans, salad, and a small appetizer soup. One of my favorite places to eat. Nice location, Mexican atmosphere, if you are lucky you might catch the mariachi. Breakfast Cheap traditional Mexican breakfast - it's alright. Nothing to run across town for. Lunch or Dinner - NICE! Try the micheladas (beer, salt and lime juice chilled) with a campechana cocktail (Shrimp, scallops, octopus, tomato juice, Tabasco, onion, cucumber and lots of lime juice). I really like coming here just for the good food. The seafood is very well prepared and tastes fresh. My favorite things to get are the shrimp burrito, shrimp tacos, and shrimp cocktail. Yeah I like shrimp...what of it. I recommend being a bit adventurous and trying the turtle tacos because they taste like nothing I've ever had before but they have tons of great flavor. I always have great service and the waiters are all very friendly. I'm not huge on spicy food and the salsa that comes with the free chips is quite hot. However, the flavor of the salsa is great so I usually tough it out. If you want great and AUTHENTIC mexican seafood there aren't many other places you can go to get a great gastronomical experience like you can get here! read more

Taco Tuesday is the bomb! The fish tacos are delicious! Crispy flaky fresh fish, with this ranch drizzle. Some pico de gallo and for $1. You can't beat that. The place does get packed! So be ready to wait a bit. They work hard to get you seat as quick as they can. You must have the freshmade fresh juice margaritas. They have several flavors and they have a buy get one special. I also recommend the cheese stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon. These juicy little jems are succlent and savory. Worth every penny. Of course, I would order them more often if they were a couple dollars cheaper :) My daughter loves to stare at the aquarium. Everytime we go we try to ask to be seated in Natasha's area. She is the best server they have and she has been there forever! Everytime she sees my baby girl, she knows that she will meltdown if she does not get food fast! She brings out the consomme that goes with my dinner out to her in a flash! That consomme is a brothy seafood soup that is just delightful! Perfect on a cold evening and perfect for a cranky babygirl. It has chunks of white fish and scallops. She gets us in and out in a jiffy! The by-product of careful attention to detail, proper food prep, cooking and serving yields the customer a very fine meal. Make sure you drop by on TT (Taco Tuesdays) for even more savings! Mariscos Hector's has carryout, too; I was observing customers haul bags of tacos out the door by the armful. The beans were delicious and authentic: slow-cooked and balanced flavor in which seemed like l tasted a hint of tomato in them. The rice has a certain sweetness to it, and if you're well-acquainted with Filipino cuisine, the rice had a similar texture of a Filipino rice dessert called "Ginataan"! Every establishment is known for their carne asada. It's imperative that you try it here and experience it yourself. I rate Mariscos Hector's five stars from a very satisfied customer! I've only been to the new Hector's in Eastlake, like a half dozen times. Had the ceviche, and it's bitchin', but I also had their turtle tacos; and it has a surprisingly pleasant taste, like what beef would taste like if a cow was a giant fish. Meaty, but definitely fishy aftertaste, and mid-taste. Very peculiar seafood... At least I think turtle is seafood. I only eat seafood meat, so I paused after the waitress highly recommended it, but she said it lives in the water, most likely from a river because seafaring turtles are endangered. If you like mariscos you have to stop by Hector's. I like going to the one in Eastlake the service is great, the food is delicious, prices are reasonable and they are very attentive. I have gotten to know some of the employees there and they treat me like a VIP every time i go. Angel, Tawana and Natasha are the best they always make me feel welcome. Now the one thing you MUST have when you go to Mariscos Hector is the cuguama... Yes caguama! It's delicious, now if your wondering what caguama is ahhh let me tell you. Sea turtle!!!! It's not actual sea turtle so don't call the authorities... lol but its farm raised turtle. But it's still super delicious. The gobernador tacos are very good, the cocktails are super tasty and the yellow peppers stuffed with tuna and cheese are a pretty good appetizer. You cant go wrong with the well portioned ceviche tostadas either and their 7 mares soup is filling and delicious. For mariscos, Hector's is a must in San Diego. I had a bday dinner here once with my family and they loved the food and service at Hector's. All in all Hector's is a great place to grab some lunch with friends or have dinner with a special someone as well. read more

I just can't quite wrap my head around this place. For one thing, the pricing seems so arbitrary. For some reason I am left scratching my head when I'm at a restaurant where you can get $2 tacos and $4 glasses of wine, but most of the appetizers are in the $15-20 range. It just feels weird. I'm not so fickle that I would give a business a low rating because I find the pricing odd. I had the lobster burrito for dinner, and as much as I love lobster, I just couldn't finish this (and not because I was full). The sauce had little pools of grease that were separating out of the cream base, and the overall flavors just didn't mesh together well. My family and I had lunch today and were very disappointed. We ordered a fried shrimp dish thats supposed to be drenched in sauce, but came dry with a small 2 ounce cup of sauce. When we asked for more sauce, they actually charged extra for the sauce. The service was extremely slow, although it was not a busy time. In the past, we've enjoyed this restaurant, but todays experience has turned us off this place for good. It's a great place to go for taco Tuesday! And they have a great deal on drinks (but one get the second for a dollar) I had the tamarind margarita blended and it was refreshing and delicious. A must try! I gave a four because food and drinks came out super fast and our waiter was great. The battered fish tacos weren't amazing but I found they do a grilled version for $1.50 (the battered fish tacos are 99 cents) I definitely want to try the grilled version to see if it tastes any better. It here were can't handle working in the COVID environment. The first time I went we were never greeted by staff and finally walked out. This time there was no one in line ahead of us waiting to be seated. No clean tables customer service was less than mediocre. It is obvious the staff isn't working as a team and the result is poor customer service . Delish! We decided to try this on a whim as something different from Miguel's. We ordered fish tacos, gobernador tacos, scallop tacos and mixed chimichanga and a side of guacamole. All were excellent. It was a bit noisy but not bad and our waiter misheard my order but he corrected it right away. The guacamole was amazing and the tacos were tender and flavorful. Stingray Tacos! Stingray Tacos!! Always one to add another animal to the list of different animals I've eaten, I just had to try them. And they were - well, not the most delicious thing I have ever had - pretty tasty. Fortunately, I had also ordered some regular fish tacos, and they were quite awesome as well. I was very surprised by the large selection of food - I had no idea that there were so many different kinds of fish tacos! I wanted to try the turtle as well, but our waitress informed us that it wasn't something that was always in stock. Oh well, maybe next time. My pals got a huge platter of fried goodness, which tasted alright but the quantity was almost too much for us to eat. Very satisfying. I was a little disappointed they didn't have any lobster tonight for my favorite dish, the Lobster Burrito with Chipotle Sauce. My boyfriend and I dine out every Friday night. Last night we tried Hectors and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole meal from start to finish!!! Our server was Chris and he was excellent. The tamarindo martinis were three for 12 dollars and they were sweet and refreshing. Our appetizer the Oistiones Popeye were OUT OF THIS WORLD FANTASTIC!!! Seriously, cheesy, rich and with shrimp. I could have eaten 10. Hahahaha. For my entree I had the fish fillet with jalapeno cream sauce, delicious!!! And my boyfriend had the number five combo platter. He enjoyed it immensely. The entrees are generous servings with beans, rice, salad and a starter soup. We had no room for dessert. We will be putting this restaurant on our rotation. The chips and salsa that you receive upon arrival is so yummy. The salsa is so spicy and good. I then ordered shrimp ceviche and it was really good too. The tostada remained nice and hard the whole time and I put a ton of lime and hot sauce on it. I also got carne asada tacos with beans and rice. The rice is white not Spanish rice. Beans are pinto and they're good. I liked them. The tacos were basic but good. The meat wasn't all grisly or anything. Overall a good meal and experience and I would come back here. It was the post church ritual on Sunday and munching on their breakfast burritos or shrimp tacos Then a few years ago they opened one in eastlake by kohls. They are really good for fish taco Tuesday for 99cents. Good portion of fish, salad, and avocado in every taco. I suggest you to call in on Tuesdays and order to go. It will be awhile to get a hold of someone since it's so busy on Tuesdays. Also I love their marlin tacos. Yes it's close to 4 bucks a piece but its stacked with so much marlin stacked in there. My only problem is that other entrees are expensive. Service is good and i understand how hectic it gets. They deal with crowds ok. I'm a little torn here because some of the menu items are quite expensive compared to other places but some are also reasonable. However, the food is really good! The grilled seafood combination is wonderful as are the tacos. Only major critique I have is the rice....should be Spanish rice not white rice with minimal flavor. Other than that it was really good.
