The chips and salsa that you receive upon arrival is so yummy. The salsa is so spicy and good. I then ordered shrimp ceviche and it was really good too. The tostada remained nice and hard the whole time and I put a ton of lime and hot sauce on it. I also got carne asada tacos with beans and rice. The rice is white not Spanish rice. Beans are pinto and they're good. I liked them. The tacos were basic but good. The meat wasn't all grisly or anything. Overall a good meal and experience and I would come back here. I've been going to the broadway location since I was a kid. It was the post church ritual on Sunday and munching on their breakfast burritos or shrimp tacos Then a few years ago they opened one in eastlake by kohls. They are really good for fish taco Tuesday for 99cents. Good portion of fish, salad, and avocado in every taco. I suggest you to call in on Tuesdays and order to go. It will be awhile to get a hold of someone since it's so busy on Tuesdays. Also I love their marlin tacos. Yes it's close to 4 bucks a piece but its stacked with so much marlin stacked in there. My only problem is that other entrees are expensive. Service is good and i understand how hectic it gets. They deal with crowds ok. What an amazing place! There are places like Hector's all over Mexico, but not too many here in the US. This is very very similar to the quality and taste of seafood restaurants in Mexico. I go to San Diego once every 4-5 weeks or so, and I go to Hector's every time. Everything is quite delicious. I recommend the Fish Filet (both grilled and breaded are good) with Culichi Sauce. Yummm! We met some friends for dinner who live in Eastlake, and we were so happy they recommended this place! The Stuffed Shrimp (stuffed with crab, and wrapped with bacon - grilled) and the fish tacos were recommended by our friends, but when I saw the Steamed Clams & Mussles for $13.95, I succumbed. And was glad I did. Delicious! I ordered double beans instead of beans and rice - good beans! My husband had the fish filet and liked it. Our friend loved her stuffed shrimp, and her husband liked his beef dish. The soup that comes with dinners was deliciously seasoned, and had big chunks (though only a few chunks) of fish and seafood in it. The salad was just okay, but adequate. From the casual atmosphere, you wouldn't expect such good food and such a varied menu - almost every kind of Mexican seafood dish you can imagine is on this menu! Since my Spanish vocabulary isn't large, I had to ask what many things were - I wish they had more English explanations of what things were. But the server and our friends were helpful - as well as Google (who Googles menu items - we do!) - in figuring things out. The young man at our table recommended the "Taco Tuesdays", and our date night is Tuesday, so we'll be back for that! They serve several kinds of Mexican beer, and other beers. I like Negro Modelo, and most of our table agreed. The service was good - it was easy to get the attention of the server. We were there for several hours on a Saturday night, and no one from the staff seemed concerned about us staying so long. The prices are a little high for Mexican food, but hey - it's seafood - not just cheap cuts of pork and beef. We will definitely be back! So, my dad loves this place and I didn't care much for it when I first went there and tried simple dishes like the fajita's and whatnot... but as soon as I started to explore the other plates (namely the ones on the last page, kind of miscellaneous section) - I fell in love! The paella and lobster burrito are incredible dishes. Last night I had one of their advertised special - stuffed fillet! it was the most delicious fish I have ever had! I hope that this isn't a rare item, because I definitely want to order this everytime! My dad got the whole fried tilapia and was amazed to find a new favorite dish, (mind you this is a big deal as he eats here at least 3 times a week.) They also make the best michelada around, even if they don't have beers on tap. It's great! we always try to learn the recipe and never quite get it right. I am pretty stuck up about avoiding the abundance of crappy chain restaurants we have here in Eastlake.. I'm so glad Hector's has stuck around to offer good food and great service. read more

Breakfast is good and inexpensive! I did not know that Hector's served breakfast until I was invited to a birthday breakfast for my friend. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu and prices! I had chilaquiles verdes. It comes with a side of beans and eggs, any style. My daughter had a combo: eggs, bacon, pancakes and a side of hash browns. The hash browns came on a separate plate and it the hash covered the entire plate. Since they offered so many options and I couldn't order everything on the menu, I returned the next day and ordered the menudo. It's only available Saturday and Sunday. When I originally walked in I thought it would be one of the places that I could order, pay and visit the salsa bar.... to my surprise, it is a sit down restaurant; and to their credit, someone was at the door to seat me before I had a chance to turn around and leave. So... I decided to take some time and stay. The waiter was prompt and attentive. Didn't speak much but that's OK. The food seemed a bit overpriced but I ordered the shrimp chimichanga which comes with a fish soup app anyway. As I sat there a realize how loud it was because they were watching the game and most of the waiters seemed preoccupied. But to my surprise my food was on time and everything worked out great. After the game was over they turned on pleasant music although it was a bit too loud.... The fish soup was wonderful but the shrimp chimichanga left something to be desired as the shrimp seemed overcooked. Wait staff was awesome, not too crowded and it one of the best mariscos I've experienced. Better than overpriced karinas in my option. Their are only a few places I've tried micheladas. Oh man!!! If you like Seafood and Mexican food. This is the place for you. It's the best of both worlds. My husband and I loved it. We tried it, yesterday. Service was a little slow. But, the food was outstanding. It was hot, fresh and delicious. What more can you ask for. Shrimp Chimichangas was great! Popeye Fillet was awesome!!! This is a nice place to take a big group or family if they're craving mexican. It's a pretty nice decent dine-in place. They have lots of selection on seafood. i love there chips and salsa. There salsa is pretty spicy and yummy. I ordered the the echilado (spicy shrimp) tacos and it's yummy!! My hubby ordered the grilled shrimp plate and he said it's okay. When we entered Hectors Mariscos we were ignored and not greeted. We stood there a little less than 10 minutes waiting to be seated while the manager looked at us and never greeted us and never said anything. We waited and waited to finally sit down then Yair comes to take our order and we already figured we weren't going to see him again soon so we quickly ordered our drinks and food. We then waited and waited while we watched a larger party come in. It was even more frustrating to watch that same table be served left and right while we were left forgotten. Well we finally received our food and Yair never returned but he sure made it a point to help the larger table. It's funny because all we really wanted was more chips and a refill of our water and we couldn't even get that. It doesn't end there we finished our food and we wanted to receive our check and pay, well they never came by so we had to get up and walk to the counter and ask if we could pay. We then were talking to the manager and we wanted to bring it to her attention and tell her that the service we received was so bad and she didn't bother to fix the situation or even apologize instead she says she's "short staffed". We asked to speak to a manager and she says she was the manager so we asked her okay and who is in charge of you and she tells us that it's the owner's daughter. So then I asked for her number and she said that we had to call to the store and she said that the owner only speaks Spanish and had a really rude tone when she said it and we said that's fine we need to talk to her to let her know what kind of service we received. She says that Yair needs to help us check out so he comes and asks, "How was everything, how was your food? And we told him the food was great but the service today was just really bad and even though you're short staffed you should still attend to your tables regardless if a larger table comes in or not. We then asked for the manager's name from earlier and he ignored us and so then handed us the check for us to pay and we gave him the amount we think matched our service and he was so upset when he saw the amount which was a $0 tip and we asked for the managers name again and he says "I don't know" and was really rude and walked off immediately. So we weren't going to chase him around the restaurant so instead I head to the kitchen to ask the cooks who the manager was and they said her name was Cecily or Ceci. We walked out and we will never go back. The "manager" and Yair, need to learn how to give better customer service because they obviously don't know what they are doing. If you are the owner reading this you should know that it's because of them that you're losing business. If I could give no stars I would but I have to choose 1 star to write this review. Please trust me if you're thinking about eating here don't! Just go to another place to eat that treats their customers with respect! I usually go to the Broadway location, but sometimes we end up at this location too! The chipotle sauce here is AMAZING! And they can put it on almost anything! I usually get the lobster burrito with chipotle sauce or the chipotle shrimp. Tonight I asked if I could get shrimp tacos but with the chipotle shrimp and they said YES! And they were delicious!!! Seriously not lying there chipotle sauce is BOMB! I guess the only thing stopping me from giving this location five stars is the shitty waiter we got (I forgot his name) but last time I came to this location he was our waiter as well and he takes FOREVER! We love to go to Hectors because there is something for everyone in our family. We crave the Hawaiian ceviche to share (big enough for 2 for dinner!) and the tacos are delicious. They often have margaritas on special and they are very well made. My son isn't a seafood fan so he gets the steak and it is always well cooked and makes him happy. Prices are very decent too. So I never leave a negative review but man these guys need to step it up especially the front desk. We call ahead 30 minutes so when we get there it's ready . I get there still not ready so whatever another 10-15 minutes food comes out I ask the gentlemen the chips and salsa are there? And lemons? He says yes you can double check also and let me know. I said to myself this guy seems legit I get back to work we're ready to eat the tacos are cold he gives us 1 salsa and 3 half cut lemons which is like almost 1 full lemon. How are we supposed to eat everything with this little bit of salsa and lemons. I call and talk to the guy and he says it's courtesy I said the salsa you gave us wasn't even for the tacos it was for the chips. Horrible customer service and we had to eat cold tacos with basically no salsa and no lemon I rarely even eat there but might as well go to karinas and pay more with quality food and they put everything you need in the bag.....We are a whole barbershop with 10 people that eat out everyday we're not going back. read more

Just had lunch with my lovely wife at Hectors for the first time. We found the place by accident and were not sure as we walked up to the front door. We were impressed by the exhibition kitchen and the overall ambiance of this place. Not your typical Mexican restaurant look. Started out with my Paula and her traditional glass of Chard. and I with my Corona. Wow beer served with a real frosty mug. Now normally a Corona out of the bottle works just fine with me but that glass mug and it's tantalizing, sex appeal was just begging for something wet inside. Boy was that beer good. Chips and salsa wonderfully light and the salsa with a nose swetting bite to it. We both ordered the fish tacos with rice and beans and I was shocked to see Hector actually uses white rice with corn and other goodies inside. Nice. The fish tacos were great as well. All in all this was a great find and I don't know why there are so many negative reviews here but for us...we will definitely return. read more

For Taco Tuesday, you can't beat the price for fish tacos. It's comparable to Rubio's in terms of flavor and the quality of fish. Everything else is meh, including the salsa and the portions. I would just come solely on Tuesdays. read more
