OK this is truly a fancy restaurant though the dress code can be business casual. It is located in a small boutique hotel called the Bijou Hotel. The dining area is a small space with about 12 tables for 4 and a special dining area that can support about 10 guests. Parking in downtown San Francisco is an adventure so one should plan accordingly unless you are staying in another hotel or working nearby. We ordered the following items some of which were recommended by the server. It is important to note that this restaurants serves food that is a fusion of Italian and Japanese styles. The item were Itameshi Tagliere, Tokio Caesar, Pananella Sunomono, Beef A5 Carpaccio, Gamberi & Burrata, Uni Tagliatelle, Ciaorigatoni, Shiso Regina Margherita, Chocolate Whiskey Gelato, and Sesamisu. Yes that is a lot which included a number of Espresso and Dirty Martinis. The food for the most part was hit or miss but I did like the salads and pasta dishes. The sushi roll lacked taste and missing the taste of wasabi. The pizza was so soggy it barely held up the ingredients. Personally food did not justify the higher price.

If you are looking for a dining experience then you need to go to Ciaorigato. From the cocktails at the bar to the dining experience it will not disappoint. And if you get a chance to meet Chef Marco it' completes the evening,

We stopped by on a Thursday around 530. They seated us promptly upon arrival. Not too busy, but started to pick up when we were leaving (around 7). Food & service was great! The pasta was definitely homemade! The waiter gave us dessert for our anniversary! Downside,, if you wanted bread w/your pasta.. that's an extra cost. If I didn't read the reviews that it's in a hotel, I would've never known. We'll be back again to try other items on the menu!

First off, love the style and feel of this spot. Super fancy--I almost felt out of place! I came here for a group dinner of about 12 people, and they had a nice long table for us in a spot that felt a bit secluded from the rest of the restaurant, which was really nice. We started with their Tempura Misto Mediterraneo (basically calamari with shrimp and veggies). It was very good. The battered asparagus was one of the best things I ate. Still some crisp to the asparagus while being soft, with a good crunch from the batter. I got the Tokyo-Burger Toscano. I always love trying burgers from fancy places. This one was good! The brioche bun was so good, and the burger itself was cooked perfectly with nice seasoning. The house "secret sauce" was pretty good--very tangy and a bit spicy. But it did really overpower the burger, to the point where I was getting sick of that flavor by my last few bites. The potato wedges were very good but nothing too special. Everyone else really enjoyed their dishes from what I could tell. This is a pretty good spot! Definitely upscale and pricey, but I think worth the experience for sure.

Came here for SF restaurant week to try out their $60 four course meal and it exceeded my expectations! My friend and I just shared 1 of the set menu options and added and okonomiyaki pizza. My favorite was definitely the pizza and Japanese curry bucatini. They gave full size portions of every dish so it was more than enough for the two of us. Service was a bit slow and it took a while for our drinks to come. It definitely got more crowded as the night went on and looks good for a date night spot or a big group dinner too. Overall would definitely come back and try their other dishes.

I'm really into the idea of a unique meal so the fusion between Japanese and Italian food sounds super interesting. I was very interested in coming here to drown my sorrow in a shitty day of work For appetizer - I got the Focacciapan. It was the highlight of the night. It was hot - fluffy - lightly sweet. Just the biggest hug you ever need. For the main - At first I really wanted to get the uni pasta. Anything uni is my favorite - unfortunately previous reviews seems to indicate the uni is quite sparse for the dish so I switched to the Maremiso Maltagliati: clam pasta. So I was excited because it looks great but then I don't think it agrees with my taste buds like it was quite rich and somehow both salty and bland at the same time. I'm like is my COVID tongue back because why don't my tasting gland understand what is going on . There's one fried shrimp that is fat and plump but it's also kinda bland and the coating feel apart when you cut into it. The clams were ok - at least they were fresh. I tried to finish but I didn't really enjoy it. Kind of a risk for fusion food - I'm sure maybe others could like it but not for me. Then come to dessert - I was trying to decide between the matcha bomb and the sesamesu. I thought the idea of ice cream some nice so I got the sesamesu. So the ice cream was a really light sesame I actually quite like it and it came with a light wafer cookie that was also pretty good. I guess I'm not a tiramisu person since the rest of the dessert was too sweet and too chocolatey for me so I didn't finish. Next time I be sticking to just ice cream Service was phenomenal. My server is the sweetest and was super attentive. And gave also all the nearby table here utmost attention equally. They also gave me like constant refill on my ice tea which other spots in the city would have charge extra for so I appreciated that The food is a hit and miss but the menu is creative , with great service so there are stuff I wouldn't mind coming back for. Damn I should have gotten another focacciapan togo that one is a must get

Another great meal at the open kitchen/chef's table. We had a great time here last time that we asked for the same table. The kitchen is open anyway, but this table gives you a real view into the kitchen. We started with a complimentary bowl of roasted peppers and olives. The peppers were tasty, but the warm seasoned olives were fantastic! We ordered a few drinks, including the lychee raspberry martini and the spirited away. Both were amazing! We went with the focaccia, the tokyo Caesar salad, the special lobster roll, the shrimp and burrata roll, the okonomiyaki pizza, and the curry bucatini. The focaccia was drizzled with truffle oil and served with a truffle butter with honey and a sprinkle of salt. The butter combo made the focaccia really unique. The tokyo Caesar salad looked overdressed but it was perfect. The lobster roll was just okay, but the shrimp tempura and burrata roll had a charred piece of citrus that made a great flavor profile. The okonomiyaki pizza has great flavor and a great crust. The curry bucatini was solid. Dessert was the chocolate whisky gelato and the sesamisu. They brought us the Japanese whiskey gelato as a complimentary item. With some extra wafers. The desserts were all great. We also had the Executive chef/owner give us some insight into some of the dishes and we also got a kitchen tour. Overall, a great experience!

Stopped for dinner and enjoyed the experience. Service started out great, but fell off as the evening went on. I don't blame our waiter as he was working hard, but similar issue of being short staffed. I was fine with waiting, but hubby was getting impatient. Very impressed with oysters, they were fresh and not a single grain of sand. Food came out hot and delicious. Apparently the chef is a renowned pastry chef so our dessert was different and very good. Also, like the ambience, very trendy and clean.

This restaurant was extremely mediocre and we were unimpressed, to be honest. It takes a lot for me to give a 2 star review. Mostly the low review is for the food and waiter service. I'll start with the few redeeming factors: decor was lovely. The restaurant is not in a great area but inside was nice and felt safe. The hostess and plate runners were very nice and helpful. That last bit should tell you everything you need to know about the waiter. He was not patient, barely came over to help us, and was hard to flag down. I felt like I was annoying him and I was uncomfortable when I was ordering. Finally, the food: WAY overpriced. The sirloin yakitori tasted like fat and deli meat. The hanger steak was too smoky and the potatoes/mushrooms very, very salty. The margarita pizza was watery, thin, messy and bland. Mushroom sushi was quite basic. Uni pasta does not have fresh Uni on top (despite recent pictures) Hope they are able to improve a bit because the decor is nice and the idea is unique but it was a never recommend never return for me.

Ciaorigato was such a pretty dinner spot in San Francisco. We booked one of the earliest reservations, so I got to see the space before the dinner rush, and the interior is honestly gorgeous. The lighting, wine wall, seating, and overall design make it feel really elevated without being stuffy. They started us with house bread, the drinks were beautiful, and the whole experience felt perfect for a special night out. We had steak, pasta, appetizers, and dessert, and everything looked so well plated. It's the kind of place that makes dinner feel like an occasion. Definitely a lovely pick for a date night or girls' night if you want something stylish and memorable.

Very mid food would prob not come back again. Pasta lacked flavor, the other dishes ordered weren't that much better. Inside was nice though, good for corporate dinners

Hidden spot inside a hotel, one of the best fusions I've ever had! Actually has elements of both Japanese dishes and Italian dishes and all tastefully and uniquely done. Came for restaurant week and favorites were panzanella sunomono salad, gamberi & burrata roll (very cohesive flavors, and uniquely combined in roll but it worked!!), tonno & pesto (house made pesto, delicious flavors), uni tagliatelle (savory but I could've done with more creamy uni flavor). We tried the spirited away cocktail (very mezcal forward, seaweed flavor is very subtle), and raspberry martini (very sweet in a more artificial way?). I would skip on these cocktails but maybe the other drinks are better? Andrea was an incredible server, he was honest with our order and made suggestions and we were happy we happy we followed them! Excited to come back and try other dishes!

Ciaorigato is a portmanteau of Ciao (Italian hello/bye) and Arigato (Japanese thank you). Located inside Hotel Bijou, this is a relatively new Japanese and Italian restaurant. It also has a sister restaurant focusing on Italian and Mexican food. We came here to celebrate a birthday, and were seated immediately since we had reservations. Not sure if most of the diners were hotel guests, but it was full for a weekday. Our order: Crudo al Mirtillo ($20.00): +Beautiful: The flower-shaped pickled daikon, herbs, petals, and vibrant colors made it hard to dig in. +Loved the different textures and flavors -Hamachi was kinda fishy. -Tiny & pricey: You know that shocked Pikachu face? That's how we were when the server put the bowl down. We counted 6 small pieces of hamachi. Focacciapan ($9.00): 4 rolls +A baby of Italian focaccia and Japanese milk bread, the rolls were fluffy, warm, and soft. +The truffle butter and organic honey were perfect pairings, creating a party of flavors (buttery, earthy, floral, savory, sweet) -Didn't taste the herbs de Provence Hanger Steak Tagarashi Yuzu ($32.00): +Herbs and petals added much needed color and freshness to the dish. -Steak was super salty: It was probably marinated too long in the miso-Clabrian marinate. -Not sure if it had already melted, but we didn't see or taste the togarashi yuzu butter. -The least salty part of the dish, the butter lemon roasted potatoes tasted like regular roasted potatoes. -Instead of the fennel listed on the menu, there was a pile of sliced onions. Uni Tagliatelle ($32.00): +Tagliatelle was al dente. +Herbs and petals added much needed color and freshness to the dish. -Very salty w/no uni in sight: Pictures from previous reviews showed actual pieces of uni on top of the pasta. However, they were nowhere to be found on the plate we received. When we asked a server, he said that it was changed to salmon roe tagliatelle. I told him that the menu said uni and he brought over another server. She told us that they changed the recipe and it's now incorporated into the sauce. Side notes: 1.) Hot water available upon request. 2.) 5.75% SF Mandate added to all purchases. 3.) Walking distance from Powell and Union Square Stations *Verdict: Thank you, next Even though we put down we were celebrating a birthday, no one even said happy birthday. In addition, staff tried to take away dishes before we were done, and they kept bumping into our chairs. The oddest part was when we asked for a receipt and the server said the printer was broken. However, she was able to print one after I insisted because we wanted to have it for our records to make sure we weren't overcharged.

Filipino-Japanese fusion has been a tried and true combination, including my boyfriend and I's relationship (ba dum tss). However, Ox and Tiger have MASTERED the fusion aspect. Ox and Tiger is an intimate dining experience, with 8 seats, and gorgeous plating, menu, and cute chopstick rests! Comes with 3 courses with an additional 4th add-on. They also have a drinking menu, and they noted that the menu changes every 2 months (every even month!) EJ is such a wonderful story teller, and Hitomi (who created the menu for the month of May) had a great twist on everyday classics in Japanese cuisine. As the dishes were prepared and presented, EJ would tell the backstory on the dish(es), a personal note about each, and Hitomi's take on it to sweeten the deal. As soon as the experience starts, EJ tells us that the doors will be locked to prevent any distractions from outside (aka if you're late, you're outta luck), but we were encouraged to go outside for air if necessary. (I tried taking these notes on the food while EJ was talking about each dish so bear with me). ESL lunch The backstory was that Hitomi loved caesar salad while going to school in America, so she created a "perfect bite" with a Japanese twist to it. The word "gomoku" literally translates to "5 ingredients," to which I was only able to remember 2 of 5 of the vegetables, which were snappeas and roasted beets, with quinoa and tinapa (smoked fish). The fish that was used wae a cured Spanish makerel. T.A.M.M.Y I wish I remembered the words for this, but this is actually Hitomi's English name when she moved to the states. The acronym aspect was for the class at the time to think of ways to learn to like their name (each letter was a positive attribute and I can't remember what EJ said). The backstory to this was that Hitomi, being born and raised in Japan, was actually the biggest fan of California roll - did not like traditional sushi (or raw fish for that matter). - T.A.M.M.Y. is Hitomi's take on that. This was monk fish, with the fish scraps dipped into dashi sauce and kyuri (Japanese cucumber). In other words, no part of the fish was wasted in the making of this dish (in true Japanese AND Filipino fashion). This also had pinipig (granola-like topping glazed in shoyu) [Shoyu = soy sauce] Omiotsuke Now this is where I was blown away. First of all, I did not know what the hell this word was in English, but I watched every part of this dish being prepared and was even more confused when it was presented as dessert. When EJ started explaining, it made all the sense in the world. There is a tofu skin roll, vanilla ice cream, a mushroom topping, cherry miso compote concoction (this is where I butchered the exact creation - this is where the flavor was distracting me from what it actually was). Did you notice the ingredients? What is one thing one will eat at any Japanese restaurant, almost as a courtesy/complimentary item? Omiotsuke is, as polite as one could possibly say, is miso soup. This is Hitomi's take on miso soup, the flavor was spot on. I never thought to pair dashi-like flavors with ice cream (there is already shoyu with vanilla ice cream, but this was a flavor sensation). EJ was so kind when my boyfriend and I admitted we came for an anniversary, and we even got to see his reaction when we said we were also Japanese/Filipino (I'm also an Ox, but no Tigers here). They took this lovely photo of us to commemorate the evening, which sits on our fridge to this day. Again, gochiso-salamat :) to EJ and staff! We hope to come back soon.

Situated in a small, 8 seat counter, dinner is intimate with dishes being prepared right in front of you. The menu features three courses, an appetizer, main, and a dessert - with the option for an additional add-on. Our meal featured a focus on fish, in particular mackerel and monkfish. Each of the dishes were deconstructions of familiar concepts such as Caesar salad and a California roll, but enhanced with new flavors. The mackerel was sublime, perfectly charred exterior with a still raw interior. The monkfish was tender, coated in a ginger, wasabi sauce next to crispy sweet rice and avocado. The dessert was by far the most unique, being a miso dashi, mushroom cherry coated coconut ice cream with a tupig-like mochi on the side. The savory, sweet, sour combination completely catches you off guard but becomes increasingly addictive the more you eat. So bold and absolutely memorable. Ox&Tiger takes familiar concepts, breaks them apart, then fuses them back together with a flair of Filipino and Japanese flavors. This results in dishes that are utterly unique and innovative. Additionally, with menus and playlists designed by family, this truly feels like the epitome of a family-run business and a meal cooked with so much care in front of you. This is absolutely worth a visit and an opportunity to try new flavors you've never experienced before.

Everything about the ordering process and the quality of the food itself was good but not great. There was no wow factor or anything that left me feeling extra motivated to return, but I also wouldn't be opposed if I were nearby and craving onigiri. There's a single kiosk in-store to order at, but you can also place an order with the person working the counter if it's not too busy. I wasn't sure what I wanted immediately, so I waited for one of my friends to finish before ordering. I added 1 unagi eel, 1 unagi onigiri, and 1 crab onigiri to my basket and checked out. I have absolutely no idea what's the difference between "unagi eel" and "unagi onigiri", and when I went to pick up my order, the staff member told me my order was two unagi and one crab. However, I was charged $4.50 for the unagi eel and $4.30 for the unagi onigiri, so go figure. I could not detect a difference between the two, and the price of each averaged out to $4.40, so it's whatever. I unwrapped one of the unagi onigiris to eat in-store as we waited for a Zoox to arrive. It was actually pretty difficult to extricate the seaweed and rice ball filling in one piece to consume together, which I presume is because the onigiris are each made-to-order and due to the freshness, the separate ingredients haven't had a chance to marinate and congeal together. As I had not eaten all day, I quickly devoured the onigiris before and after our short ride back to a café where some of our other friends were waiting. The onigiris were, as I mentioned before, pretty standard minus the fact they kind of fell apart. I would say if you like onigiris, then these will get the job done, but they're nothing exceptional, so keep your standards at baseline.

The steak sandwich was absolutely phenomenal, with the steak seasoned and cooked to perfection and pairing beautifully with the charred onion aioli, plus a side of expertly crisped smashed potatoes that were so addicting. The steamed mussels were sumptuous and packed with umami, and I loved the two large bricks of toasted sourdough focaccia that were perfect for sopping up every last bit of the delicious dashi broth. But the pièce de résistance was the custard French toast, which I can only describe as the love child of bread pudding and tres leches cake as it was crispy on the outside but uber moist on the inside, custardy, and simply divine. Kothai will be deeply missed in the neighborhood, but I'm excited to see what's next for chef/owner Sung Park and will be first in line for whatever future project comes next.

Well, I decided to look for something different than my usual favorite food and I decided to go to try some Cambodian food and I picked this lovely little spot in Ocean Avenue, so far away from my house. It was my lucky day, the food was delicious, fresh and made from scratch with a glass of great white wine and , SO IMPORTANT to me a lovely service, starting with a warm welcome smile from the owner and then with the outstanding kind service at my table from the young gentleman named (I think) Ethan. Now this little gem became one of my destinations. Great job beautiful people at Megan's Table!

We simply loved this place. The wait wasn't long, despite it being packed when we arrived. The…read morestaff was amazing. The place is small. They have packed in as many tables as they could in here. Yet it didn't feel crowded or like we would bump someone if we breathed. The food. That's what it's all about right? This place delivers. Every thing was as good as the last. They have a pretty extensive menu I wanted to try it all. Sadly I had to settle for Hot and Sour Soup, Wonton soup, Pork Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, Chicken Xiao Long Bao 8 Pcs, (8Pcs) Pork Dumpling with Sesame Sauce and Red Chili Oil (6Pcs), Numb & spicy pork Bao, Green Onion Pancake, (Sweet) Red Bean Paste Pockets. We had it family style. The 3 of us shared it all. There was plenty to go around. None of us left hungry. I can't even pick a favorite. Maybe the numb and spicy which wasn't that spicy. It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed. It wasn't listed on the menu and we have never had seaweed in any other wonton soup so didn't know to ask if it could be left out. That was sad. All she could do was have a tiny spoon of the broth to taste it. The green onion pancake was very good. The red bean paste pockets use the same dough but filled with sweet red bean paste. They were a perfect way to end the meal. Next time I'm in the city I will visit again. Loved it all. It was worth taking the time to visit and eat there.

Menu is relatively the same as Dumpling Home featuring my faves like the numb and spicy XLB and the sheng jian bao. Both very delicious! The remainder of the dishes we got were also good. I will say the green beans left me wanting a bit more from it. But overall, my party had a nice, fulfilling meal. Dumpling Home will always be my favorite (still prefer it a TINY bit), but because there is less of a crowd, service was amazing! I definitely wouldn't mind coming back considering there the difference in wait time to Dumpling Home.
