A regular stop for the custard flavor of the day. Today we decided to get burgers. I got the Cheeseburger with everything and my wife got the Mushroom Swiss with a gluten free bun. This is the third time that we've got burgers at Hefner's. A single cheese with everything. A very good burger with very good toppings. The bun is away fresh, but, with a single burger, it's a little too much bun from my perspective. (3 1/2 stars). Next time I'll try one of Hefner's specialty burgers. I especially like Hefner's custard and shakes. (4 1/2 stars) For me, it's always the flavor of the day or vanilla. I love the vibe of this place, and while there, it's fun to drop some quarters in the pinball machines and play a few games. Takes me back to a simpler time, before video games. I also love that Hefner's employs mostly teenagers. It seems like a great place to work and develop teenage friendships. Probably the first job for many of these kids. Hefner's recently installed a Toast Point of Sale system. The teenagers will love this new POS as it will help generate more tips. Hefner's is a great local place to hang out; get some pretty good food that is reasonably priced. It's fun. Let's continue to give them our support as a local landmark. read more

Absolutely love this place and end up here more often than I probably should. It has a classic ice cream shop feel to it that reminds me of the local drive-ins when I was young, and it kept this same charm. The place is always staffed entirely with the most patient teenagers I've ever seen. The orders are prepared quickly and accurately; we've been here countless times and they've never made a mistake even though it's always bustling. The food is surprisingly good, from the burgers to the chicken tenders and the specials. It's fresh, not greasy. The custard flavors are fantastic, with a fun special every time we go in. Places like Culver's just slap a topping in chocolate custard for their flavor of the day, every day, but Hefners does things like puppy chow, or banana brickle. Delicious! My husband speaks fondly of getting a cheeseburger and shake from Hefner's when he was a teenager. He finally took me for an afternoon pickmeup. There wasn't a line for ordering, but there were a few people waiting for their orders to be filled. We ordered and joined the wait..and waited. Though there seem to be systems in place and several teenagers working behind the counter, food and shakes were taking a long time. We got our cheese curds first (too greasy, but still good), but waited and waited for our milkshake. After the place started filling up with folks waiting for their orders, we asked about our lost milkshake. They quickly handed it over - it had been made and was sitting unseen behind the counter instead of placed ON the takeout counter. They collect change to support Muttland Meadow (local dog park). Local bands play on Summer weekend outside in the courtyard. Pup cups with vanilla custard and dog biscuits for the pups. This place is always busy and I finally see why! It's a cute and classic little space. I ordered the grilled cheese and it was exactly what I wanted- crispy and so cheesy. The fries were kinda basic, and I prefer other fries, but they were fine. The cheese curds were crispy and cheesy, I would 1,000% order these again. The custard was also pretty good. I made the mistake of ordering it at the same time as my food, so it was a little melted by the time I got to it. Next time I would just place a second order. It was tasty though! This place was great! My wife and kid (age 11) told me to meet them here for dinner. We had driven past the place hundreds of times and it always had a good crowd. Not I know why. Hefner serves many food options, but this review is for the custard as that is all that I had at this location. Hefner serves vanilla and chocolate custard and has one rotating custard. I stopped in when puppy chow was the rotating flavor and I knew I had to try it. This custard was a vanilla base with chocolate sauce and puppy chow mixed in. I was shocked at how crunchy the puppy chow pieces were and it really made the flavor standout. It was clear to see that they put a lot of thought into their rotating flavors. There were no Bunnies to be found. I wore these pajamas, this smoking jacket and this goofy Captain's hat for nothing... Just kiddin. I rolled up to the Burg with my daughter to have lunch with my Mom. This custard aficionado decided to get a burger with his custard. I had the appropriately named "Huge Hefner" and it was pretty damn good. Two juicy patties, a good, soft bun, cheese, fried onions and just enough Thousand Island dressing so you can still taste the burger. A lot of custard stand/diner burgers have a tendency of being overly greasy, but this one wasn't at all. Props for that. Also mad props for having two pinball machines and two stand up arcade machines. Mom had to babysit the kid as I spent about 10 minutes playing Simpsons Bowling. More props for having Sprecher Root Beer on tap and for having a fry/onion ring mix. Sometimes I want fries, sometimes I want rings, but most of the time, I want both. This saved me a couple bucks as a couple minutes of indecisiveness at the counter. Why does everyone get a 50's or 60's vibe here? I get more of a 70's vibe. Now for the Main Event. My custard choice was simple: one scoop of the most complex flavors of custard I've ever encountered, the "Seven C's". I was reluctant at first, but after that first bite I sailed through the dish. You see, the seven C's stand for- 1. Vanilla (C)ustard 2. (C)ashews 3. Oreo (C)ookies 4. (C)aramel 5 & 6. (C)hocolate (C)hips And 7. The (C)up it comes in. It seems weird, but it works. The toppings are quality, I encountered big pieces of cashew amongst the other toppings, and they were generously distributed but not overpowering to the custard itself. Short version: AWESOME Long version: my aunt and I stopped here on a sweltering day after a disappointing and not-very-filling lunch in Sheboygan. (I found Hefner's here on Yelp.) I got the Hefner's Delight, which had four scoops of custard and generous amounts of toppings (hot fudge, butterscotch, marshmallow) and also pecans. They put two scoops in and then add some toppings, then the other two scoops, then more toppings. This always wins points in my book. They were also very liberal with the pecans, which is becoming increasingly rare at custard stands. My aunt got a turtle sundae and was equally pleased. She said the same thing about the toppings in the middle, and the loads of pecans. The place is on a corner, on what looked to be a busy street at that time of day (5pmish) so even though they had a little deck area set up with umbrella tables, the ambiance is a little lacking. But for someone who grew up eating hot fudge sundaes in the family car in the Leon's parking lot, it was just about right. read more

I went to Hefner's this afternoon and besides the employee's acting as if they could care less, the food was really good. I had the double cheeseburger and it's enormous! Seriously, like big enough for two people (hence the jumbo burger name). The tater tots are awesome and who can complain about tater tots. Very disappointed in Hefner's. We are from out of town and heard it was great burgers. We called at 8:00pm to see when they closed. We were told "we close at 9". We get there at 8:45 and we tried to order and were told the grill is closed. So you're open but not serving food after we called?? You would think when someone calls to see how late your open they would mention the grill closes earlier than the restaurant.
