This has been one of my favorite places to pick up a slice of pie. I've also had breakfast here and enjoy it overall. This last visit I had a Denver omelette, pancakes, and coffee. The Denver omelette was good. The place didn't have Cholula hot sauce so it was missing that hot sauce flavor component. It was a simple omelette. Did the job. The pancakes were a gummy texture to me. I had one and was full. I wanted to try the cinnamon French toast but was not able to substitute it and didn't want so much food. The coffee was strong in flavor. Not sure what blend they use but on its own it's a very strong black coffee. Service was good during our visit. This is standard diner food in a diner setting. Plenty of tables and the place gets busy on the weekends. I've had multiple pies from here and their crust is flaky and delicious. Fillings are good too. Kind, warm, welcoming staff. This place hasn't changed one bit. I used to come here late night with friends after a night out on the town.. RWC that is, lol. This was ten years ago. Today, my partner and I decided to stop in for lunch and I have no regrets. It was nostalgic walking through the door, seeing familiar faces from "back in the day". The environment was kept nice and tidy, spotless, unlike many other establishments that have been around for a while. It was pretty busy since it was lunch time on a Friday afternoon. I ordered the corned beef hash and it was delicious! My order came out within ten minutes. A large portion of corned beef, alongside a bed of crispy hash browns and a side of sourdough toast. It was so filling, I couldn't finish my meal. I wanted to order a slice of pie as the key lime is my favorite but I had no room! Heidi's has always been a favorite and I recommend stopping in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or if you're out late at night! Great for groups of people or if you're flying solo. I've only tried the pies but I thought they were really good. The most popular according to the employee was banana cream and I saw a lot of posts about the blueberry sour cream. My favorite was the blueberry. Both were delicious, light, and didn't feel super heavy. It's a good ratio of crust to pie filling. I got my slices to go. Great pies - I usually get the banana crème pie. I come here sometimes with friends later at night, and it's just good vibes all around.

I've only tried their pies even though they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want a pie - this place will most likely have it since they offer over 30 varieties. Have you heard of strawberry rhubard pie? They have it. On Thanksgiving Day, their restaurant is closed and people waited as long as 2 hours in line to get a pie. I waited in line on Christmas Eve for 2 pies - but thank goodness it only took half hr. Again, the restaurant was closed so they could focus on selling pies. Whole pies run around $20-25 Update - I read they were able to renew their lease for 3 more years. So folks, you have 3 years to enjoy their food and pies. After that it was reported that the owner and many of the staff will retire since they've worked for decades. The pies were good and not too sweet. The pie was delicious, we ordered the lemon meringue and the pumpkin pie, and both were really enjoyable. We went pretty late at night, so it was nice and quiet with not many people around. The ambiance was great; it didn't feel like it was right next to El Camino, which made it more relaxing than expected. I've driven past this place so many times and had never gone in, so it was nice to finally check it out after all these years. The servers were quick and friendly, and they kept our water refilled without us having to ask. The pie is a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for the taste. The downsides are the cost of a whole pie is now around $30 and you can't reserve pies in advance. It is strictly first come first served which often results in them selling out of the populars during the holidays. It also doesn't seem to be an efficient way to operate in this day and age. Omgosh the Pies here are delicious! After sitting in the fridge for two days, the crust stays buttery and flaky and not soggy. By far the best pies I ever had. This has become my #1 favorite pie spot. The sugar free peach pie was perfectly sweet. No taste of artificial sweetener. The mango sour cream pie was such a great combo. It may sound like a weird combo but trust me it works devinly. Real chunks of mangos too and I recommend it. While the price may seem a bit steep, it is worth it. I heard about Heidi's pies through a YouTube vlog. Drove 40 mins to give it a try. Located on El Camino in San Mateo. They also serve breakfast and lunch items but we were there for the items in its namesake. We were greeted warmly and announced we were interested in some items to go. Handed menu which only included menu items that were not pie, we let the waitress know we just wanted pie. She passed us off to a gentleman who was very hospitable. As I waited for our order to be packed, I tried to ignore the "conditional pass" from the health dept hanging in the window. Fingers crossed it was for minimal reasons and the issues have been addressed we forged on with our slices and drove the 40 mins home. I LOVED the cherry pie. The apple was good too. Have lived in the Bay for 22 years and have lived in San Mateo for 13 years and have driven past Heidi's Pies so many times and had never stopped until this week. We stopped in for breakfast and it was tasty. The Denver Omlette hit the spot. Was jonesing for some great pancakes and they did not hit the spot. They were a little rubbery. The omlette made up for it though. The service was great, two really nice ladies serving and they were super attentive. Our waitress kept filling up my husband's coffee, he loved it. However, we've had their wonderful pies many a times over the years either at potlucks, holiday parties, family gatherings, etc. I mean if you've never had a pie from Heidi's, you should. Their famous ones are the Blueberry Sour Cream Pie or Seasonal Fresh Strawberry or Fresh Peach Pies. Though, their other pies like Banana Cream Pie, Coconut, etc are good as well. Very disappointed! It has been a while since coming in to Heidi's pie and was excited to have a slice of pie. After looking at their board for about 8 mins (waiting for the patron in front of me to finish paying) I started to order just to be told that they don't have all the pies available and only what is on a printed sheet is available (maybe 10-12 pues listed). Placed my order for blueberry sour cream and lemon meringue. I was shocked to pay $9.99 +tax per slice! Unfortunately for me by the time I opened the box (less than 5 mins) for the blueberry sour cream pit it looked as if it was melting or possibly hasn't set. Not sure what is under the blueberry filling but it looked as if it was uncooked flavorless jello or custard. Then to add insult to injury the lemon meringue didn't even taste like lemon! And even though I'm from Antioch, I do too. They're open 24 hours a day so if you find yourself within 15 miles of this place and have a hankering for pie you need to stop in. My fiancée and I wanted to stop by randomly late at night because we saw the open 24 hours a day sign in the past while driving by. Thankfully we did some research online before heading out because people reported they stopped being open 24-hours a day YEARS ago, but have not updated anything to inform the public. If I'm being honest, food here is very average. Breakfast isn't going to blow you away and prices are definitely in 2025. Tried two pies as well and it wasn't anything I'd be dying to try again. I think a lot of people grew up with Heidi's so there's a bit of nostalgia and a lot of looking through rose-colored glasses for them. Saw what seemed like a lot of regulars coming in and out, and the staff seemed like they've been there since the Heidi's first opened. Pie crust is flakey, but fillings are overly sweet. The lemon meringue pie flattened, with the meringue almost nonexistent. Lemon curd tasted artificial, maybe too sour/sweet, because I needed a sip of water with each bite just to wash it down. The banana cream pie's cream consistency was like thick jello/pudding. Full of banana flavor, so a safe bet. Seems like Heidi's will be closing at the end of 2025. When a friend told me Heidi's would close by the end of 2025, I had to admit I never of the restaurant or the pie. But given this place has been around since 1970, I had to check it out. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was almost overwhelmed by all the intriguing options! I will be coming back for sure to enjoy this place while it lasts. I got the Heidi's Sweet Potato Pancake Platter. I came hungry. I am a HUGE sweet potato fan and wow was this pancake amazing! So rich with its own sweetness. It didn't need syrup. I savored every bite. The scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon is what you would expect from a classic diner. I substituted fresh fruit for potatoes. The fruit was clearly carefully selected. Of course I had to get a pie. Once again I was nearly overwhelmed by all the options. I picked peach. One of my favorite. It's a light texture. It doesn't taste like sugar was added to the fresh fruit (a good thing for me). The crust is light and fluffy. Next on my list is key lime, apple, cherry, and German chocolate. Finally, service was excellent. I never felt rushed and enjoyed conversing with a waitress who has been working here for 52 years. Wow! This must be quite the community. Heidi's pies has a very American diner feel with decent food and great pies. I went to Heidi's pies with a large group of coworkers and they were very accommodating. They had a table ready when we arrived and they happily added extra tables and chairs when we arrived with a larger party than expected. I ordered the Denver omelet (3/5; everything was cooked well but nothing on the omelet was seasoned. I had to add salt, pepper and hot sauce. The best component of this dish was the hash browns by far). Of course we ended our meal with pie; banana cream (5/5; delicious and satisfying) and blueberry sour cream (3.5/5; decent flavor but given how much I love blueberries, I was disappointed). I went there yesterday to get pies for takeout. Using the coupon from the Daily Journal newspaper I got a whole apple pie for only $9.99 with their MLK, Jr. Birthday weekend special, such a deal. And a slice of pecan pie for a steep $9.99! It was 1/4 of a pie, don't know how much a whole pecan pie would be but the slice was very tasty! I am giving Heidi's Pies a four star review because of friendly service and a pretty good pie. However, I was expecting a great pie given the pie box has "voted the best pies in the Bay Area" printed on it. I ordered a Cherry Pie to go. It was $27.00, which I thought was a little high, but I wanted to wait and taste the pie, that could make it worth the price. The cherry filling was good, but there was no tartness, that is synonymous with cherry pie. The crust was a little burnt in spots, leaving a slightly bitter taste behind. Unfortunately, I was not impressed, and will not be back. I do need to take a moment to give feedback on something I noticed, which did not affect me, but it may others. The bottom of the pie box clearly states that Heidi's Pies is a 24hour establishment, but in reality they close at 10pm and reopen at 8am. There needs to be new pie boxes printed with a revision of correct times, or just omit hours of operation all together from the wording. It's best to keep correct information out there so your customers will trust you to want to spend their hard earned money in your restaurant. read more

They don't leave any on hold- it's first come first serve. Not sure if they pre order for holidays. I have always wanted to try this place and finally had the opportunity to eat here with my family. My husband lived nearby as a child and has fond memories getting pies from here. Our waitress was really nice and we had a good time. The food was overall good, however, my grilled cheese sandwich was drenched in butter. I understand that butter is used when making a grilled cheese sandwich, but I think the cook went overboard with the butter and it tasted more like a grilled butter sandwich than a grilled cheese sandwich. I should have said something to the waitress about it, but we were having fun and I didn't want to ruin the experience. The sandwich was edible, but it was just cooked with too much butter. Friendly staff and very helpful with the egg naming. The skillet I ordered is a big portion for an average person and they use what seems to be extra large eggs. I only managed to finish the skillet and brought the French toasts home. French toasts are good after reheating, but tastes much better if they added some cinnamon on it with the powdered sugar. Plenty of refills on coffee and they are attentive in providing napkins and water refills. Unfortunately, I was way too full to order a slice of pie, but will visit again for the pie! Though I haven't tried their meals lately, I can attest to their pies, which are really pretty good. I like their classic apple and custard pies. Simple. Nothing fancy. Just good old skool pies.
