My friend ordered the $22 bacon omelet, it didn't quite look worth the $22 price tag on visual value alone. It looked like a flat crepe. S​o the food was a bit of a mixed bag. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 9:30 AM, it was still pretty quiet, maybe at 15% capacity. The service was excellent, which was a huge plus. ​However, the building itself is quite dated and worn inside, and the bathrooms definitely need some TLC. The restaurant is attached to a Motel 6 (so they don't own the building), and unfortunately, it shows. It's also not particularly close to any residential neighborhoods and more or an off the freeway stop. The flagship is in Palo Alto and the difference between the two is night and day. They should move-on from this location, its dragging the brand down. Overall- solid service, good coffee cake especially for the price, but the place needs some love. read more

This is a substancial breakfast I ordered the Gouda grits. They were a little drier than I would have liked but the flavor was still impeccable. The spinach sautéed in garlic along with the blistered tomatoes elevated the breakfast meal. But the icing on top was the sweet and spicy bacon. My girlfriend indulged in the breakfast sandwich 2.0 . Which was delicious. This place did have a good solid breakfast especially if you are in the area. Also the coffee cake was good. It had a decent blueberry flavor but it was more on the subtle side. This is such a great place to stop and get brunch. In all the years that I have been coming to the San Francisco area, the menu remains consistently awesome. There used to be more locations but COVID did some of them in. This one is just south of SFO and makes a great place to stop and get lunch after a morning flight in from DTW. Hobee's tea is such an experience. I have had it both hot and cold though I prefer it cold. Everytime we go, our wait person keeps our drinks full. During my last 2 visits (in September 2019 and this past Thursday (June 19, 2025)), I was able to get a to-go cup of ice tea as I left. Their coffee is quite good. It comes out at the right temperature. Given the amount of times that I have been, I have picked my favorite/go-to meal for the one time I come...aka the DeAnza Browns Bowl. It such a great dish with a well balanced depth fo flavors. I typically get it with an over medium egg on the side. Prior to going gluten free, getting the blueberry coffee cake was a must. If and when this dish ever goes gluten free, I would/will be all over that. The restaurant had decent sound handling so it doesn't get to noisy or at least when we have been there. It sort of hit or miss for us, since it was great at the beginning...great service, great foods, great vibe to whatever service, still great foods, and just cool vibe. This time, it's just okey overall. Plenty of parking and good location since it nearby or next to several hotels & motels. They seem to know their regulars and they are super at their service by asking if we wanted lemon for our water, letting me try their famous orange tea (not my thing but thanks for the sample where I found out it's not my type of tea), and got boxes for us asap. Considering it was only in NorCal, I had to try this place when I was in the area. It gets busy and wait times can add up. I would say (not sponsored) it's better than a Denny's or a Norms. Ordered a simple breakfast item ( eggs, tots, toast, and pancakes) it took a while to arrive but it was made perfectly. Eggs were nice, tots have the perfect amount of crisp and bread the perfect amount of crunch. Pancakes were not too much batter like some other places. For you Silicon Valley OGs, who might remember those pre-worldwide web days, when the Steves (Jobs and Woz) were just starting, and people worked at Fairchild Semiconductor, and shag rugs and avocado colored kitchen major appliances decor was in, when the very first emoji, "smiley face", was 10-15 years old (designed in '63), and the first major health craze hit America (running, tofu, organics), a few years after Cigarettes were banned from advertising on TV, a couple of healthy local restaurant chains existed: Good Earth, and Hobees. Hobees started in Mountain View in the 70's, and ultimately expanded to about 5-6 locations in Silicon Valley, including San Jose, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Los Gatos, and the only one in San Mateo county, this one in Belmont/Redwood Shores, back when Marineworld was located here, not in Vallejo (ergo the Marineworld or Marine Parkway street name around here). This restaurant is attached to a large Motel 6, and they are only open from morning to 2, breakfast and lunch. The decor still has remnants of 70's decor, wood paneling, but no hanging Ferns like the old Henry Africa's bar in SF, or avocado green kitchen appliances. Speaking of Avocado, I ordered a brekkie special, Salmon Avocado Toast, tea and oj. What came was a full meal! 2 pieces of salmon draped over a bed of arugula, cherry tomatoes, on a thick slice of chibatta type bread, and sprinkled atop with feta cheese and a side of half an avocado! Yum yum! Healthy and filling! No Good Earth Tea, but you can still order that online. Hobees was famous for its good service, good food and blueberry coffee cake. Hobee's has been in Redwood Shores for as long as most can remember - a staple of locals here! For this particular trip, we went on a Saturday around 10:30 and had no trouble getting a seat. After we sat down, the waitress immediately brought our kiddos a little fruit plate smiley "appetizer" which, if you have kids, you know it's greatly appreciated when they're starving! Went to Hobee's since we were staying at the Motel 6 for two days before moving on to another spot to got the Dot Com Ommie which included Bacon, mushrooms, spinach, red onion and Swiss cheese topped with sun-dried tomato pesto the omelet was chock full of bacon which I was pleasantly surprised I had to admit it was a great omelet I also included hash browns which was pretty decent I have to say although the omelets are a bit pricey they make up for it in the amount of ingredients in there. Parking if you are coming here is plentiful so that's not a problem. And they are pretty quick with your order too. read more

About 20-25 years ago we came here a few times and it was super busy and the food was delicious. Recently we came back and nothing had been updated. The room looked exactly like it did 20-25 years ago, the food was bland but ok, the service was so so. There were a few other tables but the room was pretty empty. We came here on a whim because we saw they take inKind as a payment option and we had credit expiring. It'd been years since we'd been to Hobee's and we were not disappointed! The food was great, big portions and tastes very fresh. The service was exceptional- our coffee cups never got below half full. And the coffee cake was, as we remembered, incredible. Hobee's will forever have a special place in my heart. So many breakfast meetings at so many different locations. However, this location has been left in the 70's. I know that the owner can't do anything about the road to the location. You need 4WD to get here. We were lucky not to lose a tire or 4. The owner can replace carpet, replace ripped chairs and remodel and or modernize the locations. The food. They charge over $20 for specials now. You want me to pay over $20 and sit in a dinghy dining room in ripped chairs with poor ventilation? The breakfast bowl was so salty I finished 1/3 of it and boxed it. I will return 1-2 times a year foe coffee cake but at $5 I can buy a mix cheaper. Another great local chain in the rear view mirror. read more

Went to Hobees and it did not disappoint! Always enjoy getting the crumb cake (it's always #crumbcakeszn!) and today's special was pumpkin walnut! Good flavor as always, they can't do wrong with a good dessert. As for the food I had a Caesar salad and club sandwich and it was good! Definitely not the spot! The club felt a little dry going down, but the flavor was still there. The Caesar was surprisingly good as it had the additions of purple onions and tomatoes and a lot of places don't do that typically. Longtime Hobee's fan (28 years!), first time visiting this location. I was craving some old favorites and planned a short trip to check this location out. The location was a little off the beaten path, but the food and dining experience were both great! The Hobee's aesthetic makes me think of cool 70s health food, and if you've not tried one check them out. A South Bay classic (especially for brunch). The pollo supremo quesadilla (more of a loose wrap with chicken, mushrooms, brown rice, guacamole, cheese and sour cream) was excellent and exactly as I'd remembered. The red, white and blue smoothie was also exactly as I remembered, which is basically a berry milkshake. A little decadent and more than enough for two to split. Service was fun and friendly, they even put my left over carafe of their house iced tea (a slightly sweet, spiced cinnamon flavor) into a togo cup for me without being asked. read more

Today we were at hobbies's, and I regret that I didn't take any pictures. Hobbies is a place. I went to many times over the years when my kids were younger. We used to go to the San Bruno one which is no longer there. We have been to the Belmont hobbies many times but not recently. I'm so glad we went today. I had the L ranchero, which was house potatoes and their black bean chili with salsa Verde, cheese, and two over easy eggs on top. It was delicious and a lot of food so I ended up bringing part of it home. It also came with a piece of the banana toffee coffee cake, part of which I brought home.. One of us had the south of the border omelette, which is always a great choice with the blueberry coffee cake. And the other had the Salmon Benedict. All of us were very happy with our food and we will definitely be back again soon. Service was also excellent. Since I belong to a group that likes to have breakfast meetings, I inquired about their meeting room. This place is located right off the freeway near a rough looking motel, which was not a great start. Upon entering I was hit with the smell of what I would describe as a continental breakfast smell, it also kind of looks like a continental breakfast room. The omelette I ordered (the dot-com ommie) lacked any significant flavor, also it was supposed to come with hash browns and I got country potatoes. The only saving grace and the reason I gave this place 3 stars is their blueberry coffee cake, holy smokes is this thing delicious. For like 3 or 4 bucks you get a massive slab of it too.
