My wife and I visited Heirloom Tavern and we would give it an overall score of 3.5 if possible. We felt differently about different criteria of the restaurant, so we broke them down below: Service: 1 star, because we didn't really feel like the server went above and beyond in any way. He sat us, took our orders, and checked on us twice, and although that sounds pretty standard, he seemed pretty preoccupied. We had to ask for bread for the table which was odd since they had oil on the table. The service just felt like we had been served at a fast food restaurant. Appetizers: 5 stars, they were amazing! We had the spinach dip and the raw oysters! Main course: 1 star for my linguini, shrimp, and clams. They were really salty & unappetizing. My wife had the NY Strip & gave it 4 stars. The sides were Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and we'd give those 5 stars as well. Atmosphere: We'd give the atmosphere 1 star. We were happy with the way they handled social distancing, but it was too cold in their and didn't seem cozy. Cleanliness: 1 star. We could see dust buildup on the large mirror and on the ledge by our table. We would def recommend this spot as a nice little lunch, but don't expect anything luxurious. read more

This place is easy to find right in the train station parking lot. There is plenty of parking in this lot. The storefront for this place is wonderfully designed. Once inside you get a sense of an upscale bar eatery with a small dining room that's well thought out. The staff is super friendly but not the most skilled as one of the waiters spilled beer all over my table. Other than that I was very pleased with the service. The food was really good and would return for another meal soon for sure. My group really enjoyed the wonderful ambiance too. I wish we weren't in a rush if we would have tried the desert. The drinks were good but were just wine so nothing too crazy. If you in town give this place a try for a semi casual bite on a Saturday night before you go out for your night. read more

The service was great ! The maître d' was eager to help us find a table despite us not having a reservation. We opted to sit at the bar where the bar tender was also very helpful. We ordered the calamari which was very crispy but bland. For entries we got the French dip and grilled chicken paillard. Both of which were had little flavor and were dry. I had to try this restaurant after I had a great meal at their sister restaurant Wild Goose. When I saw Heirloom participating in restaurant week, I made reservations. We were seated right away and I noticed the restaurant was rather small. I ordered the fennel leek soup which was earthy and tasty. My dinner mates raved over their pumpkin mascarpone ravioli which was a bit sweet and a bit savory. The pork osso bucco was fall off the bone tender. There was no bone marrow which I missed. The monkfish was alright. Everyone loved their dessert. It was a good dining experience. read more

This is the sister of the Brass Rail in Locust Valley. Kent Mencken operates both and both places have first rate service. Both places know how to cook their menus, prepare desserts, and honor reservations. The ratings would be higher with a little better wine list and not run out of fish on a Saturday night at 6PM, as was the case at the Brass Rail this past Saturday the 22nd. Another selection was made and was excellent. Oysters were clean and sweet in their liquor, butternut squash and fig salad terrific, shrimp tacos and short rib tacos terrific and dessert of crumb cake and ice cream satisfied our sweet tooth. If y try this is a complaint, it is that it was too dark to read the menus where we sat, I needed my cell phone but otherwise a wonderful experience. Both places take care of their diners. read more

This is a cool spot to grab a bite. I always sit at the bar because my family and I love an employee here named Allison. She is THE coolest ever and will take such great care of you, giving you honest feedback on the best dishes to order. She is half the reason we keep coming back for more! Some of our favorite dishes are the jalapeño burger, chili glaze shrimp lettuce wraps, and the bucatini pomodoro (ask for the addition of veal meatballs). The shoestring fries are also great if you enjoy a crisp thin style. Allison also says that the tuna burger is amazing; I've never had it myself. My wife and I had a good dinner there for Valentine's Day. The atmosphere is cute, although the average age was about 55. But it's one of the few places that doesn't offer an obscenely over-priced menu for Valentine's Day, so we were happy with it. We got the fried mozzarella as an appetizer, which was very tasty--not the healthiest, but you can't go wrong with fried cheese. For the main course, I had the burger and sweet potato fries. The burger was well-cooked and juicy. My wife had the scallops, which were excellent. The only disappointment was the dessert. We got the beignets, but they were completely undercooked. They were mushy inside instead of fluffy. They were so bad we had to send them back. I would definitely recommend a different dessert. read more

We indulged in the bar, which has fine selections and is expensive. Husband decided to look up places to eat around the lights festival we were headed to. This is when he came across Heirloom Tavern. We pulled up to a quaint little spot that looked so cozy and warm from the outside. When we entered we were greeted by the hostess and although we didn't have a reservation, we were welcomed and accommodated. We had a wonderful waiter. He was so on top of our table and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered our son chicken and fries off the kids menu and it was a nice sized place for a kids meal. Our son thoroughly enjoyed it. They even brought it out first so he could eat before us. (Which helps so much!). We ordered chips and guacamole, Buffalo wings, and shared a Fontina burger off their speciality menu and all I can say is wow! Everything we ordered was absolutely incredible. We were so pleased with our entire experience. To top off the night we ordered their beignets topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. It was a wonderful experience, with great food and great service. We will be back again! read more

Heirloom Tavern is a nice small place close to the Glen Head train station. The ambiance and coziness of the restaurant is apparent and the food was great. When we entered the Heirloom Tavern, we didn't know what to expect. We had been house hunting all day long, and found this unlikely spot adjacent to the rail terminal in Glen Head. It didn't take long for us to realize we were somewhere special and inquired about the food. When we were told that we were in the same restaurant that the owner of the Brass Rail, we understood completely. The small plate menu is right up our alley; we love to sample a little from each corner of the menu. We opted for the crab cake, the ravioli and the veal meatballs. All of them were excellent and we knew that the design of the plates and the flavors were familiar to us. We eat at the Brass Rail every couple of weeks and noticed the flavors and the feel of the food. Not usually a dessert guy, I must say that the cheesecake was THE SINGLE BEST dessert I've had in many, many years. Wow! It was so delicious I grunted while I ate... Yes... that good. The restaurant filled up completely and we cant wait to get back there to sit in the patio when the weather is a little more agreeable. read more

A very upscale-feeling restaurant down by the train tracks. Like, across the parking lot from them. It was a bitch to get there thanks to two clueless navigators and a GPS that told us to take a left ... onto those aforementioned train tracks. But once we figured that out, we were able to enjoy well-prepared and presented food, albeit more expensive than expected, as a Long Island gem. Great duck spring rolls and even the salad was great (c'mon, it's salad ... you eat it because it's healthy most of the time, don't you?). I had the NY Strip steak which was cooked like someone actually knew what "medium" meant; while my friends had the horseradish salmon and one of the pasta dishes. But them beignets ... oh, yeah. Me LOVE them beignets, especially since they serve them with gelato. The service was very attentive, even with the restaurant packed, including the bar. Didn't have to remind the servers to bring our drinks, or refill water glasses, and they were able to answer questions right off the bat regarding food allergy-inducing preparations. Downsides: When this place gets crowded, you better have a good sense of humor about getting your elbows and arms knocked about, and better have the good manners to apologize when you're doing to the knocking-about. The restaurant is in a quiet part of Glen Head so if it's after hours, you're kinda out of ideas for walking around. Other than that, great place! read more

This is my new favorite local restaurant. Its been a long time since a really good restaurant opened in Glen Head, Long Island. The quality of each dish is outstanding. My favorite is the Duck always cooked to perfection. Also enjoy the Lobster Taco's as a small plate dish. There is a variety on the menu for everyone. This is one of the best hidden gems I've ever been to. Looking from the outside we weren't expecting a great meal. We were brought here because of all the great reviews on Yelp. Inside it's a small, but very nicely done interior. The staff was very friendly including the bartender. Overall a cozy atmosphere. The food here is so much better than normal pub fare. We had the Scotch egg and quesadilla - very good. For my main course I had the NY strip with the mushroom risotto. This was steakhouse quality. The risotto is insanely good. I've been coming here with my boyfriend for over a year now. It's a cozy place so you either need reservations or pray to god it's not super packed before you get there. Never have we left this place unsatisfied. Whatever it is we order, it comes out in a good amount of time. The staff is very attentive. My boyfriend always likes to try the specials and different entrees; for example, a couple of nights ago, the venison was a special of the night and he adored it. I usually stick to my "old faithful" Berkshire porkchop. Never unsatisfied. The dessert menu is fabulous as well. I really have no complaints about this place other than I wish it were slightly bigger so I wouldn't feel like I'm bumping into someone everytime I pull my chair out. read more

Everything is INCREDIBLE from the food to the service, all the way down to the drinks. Don't let the outside fool you! I did not expect the delicious upscale meals that I had when I first pulled into the parking lot. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be coming back! This is my new favorite place in the area. The food was spectacular, I had a crabmeat salad and salmon burger which was fresh and real fresh crab and salmon. I would HIGHLY recommend. I've passed this restaurant an inordinate number of times on the train as it passes through Glen Head. But up until recently, have given much thought to actually stopping in Glen Head. When my girlfriend and I arrived, we wrongly assumed that some small little restaurant by the train would likely not be packed, even on a Saturday evening. Needless to say, we were wrong, but were fortunate to get the last two seats at the bar (next time, I'll make reservations and aim to sit in outdoor patio in the back, which would be a perfect place to sit at the place.) As for the food, we split the goat cheese guacamole and tuna tataki for appetizers. The guacamole was fine, the addition of goat cheese was nice, though mostly unnoticeable. The tataki tasty and perfectly seared, plated over an Asian slaw. The appetizers overall were good, but nothing amazing. Next time I'd likely look to switch up the choices. The entrees is where this restaurant really shines. I ordered the roasted chicken with a side of haricot verts and sweet potato fries. The chicken was served with a rich and rather indulgent au ju that really highlighted the crisp chicken skin. While I expected to receive a half chicken and did receive it, the size of the chicken, along with the size of the sides was an unexpected treat. The same goes for my girlfriend's order of the strip steak with sides of asparagus and mushrooms. Her dish as well was quite delicious. But again, the size, at least at a sub-$30 price point, was surprising. The steak, while not a dry-aged prime strip, was at least 14 oz. and grilled to juicy perfection. Needless to say, this restaurant is worth the time to go and try, even if it means a bit of a drive or train ride. The food, especially the entrees, is excellent, especially for the price. read more

The Heirloom Tavern is simply Amazing. The Rack of Lamb is something I strongly recommend. I love the Fresh Fried Mozzarella as an appetizer as well. Honestly, anything you get will be to your liking, and if not - then you don't know great food. The Restaurant is a petite, and sometimes you are a little overcrowding on the other party next to you - however, it is what it is. The ambiance is very nice as well and its nicely decorated. The servers are polite and attentive - and if they do make a mistake (rarely) - they always apologize more than once. I have no complaints at this restaurant. This is a gem. read more

I had one of the best meals I've ever had here. I really loved the ambiance and the decanters that's were converted to light fixtures. We had short rib appetizers were amazing, and the mushroom risotto was not only the best risotto I've ever had, but one of the best things I've ever eaten period. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked, as was my herb roasted chicken. The skin on the chicken was so crispy, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful.
