The Highland Rd. Location of Hello Sushi is much better in my opinion because of the atmosphere, amazing wait staff and the fried pound cake and coconut deep fried ice cream. My waitress, Gabi was so down to earth, helpful and just real cool. She was nice enough to bring me over 11 different sauces to sample with my rolls. We had edamame, crunchy rolls, the Boom Boom calamari, the spider roll and of course the amazing deep fried dessert. And so begins my quest to become the queen of my neighborhood. We took the dogs to the BREC Burbank Retriever Training Pond Friday night to swim (or in the Dobermans case, almost drown, and flail pathetically to the bank) and on our way home, called up a ToGo order from Hello, Sushi. It was easy to order, they repeated the order back to us, told us how much, and which location we'd ordered from, which is great! I'd never been to this location, and it's pretty nice inside, the hostess was courteous and our food was ready when I walked in. It's a cool, fairly large dining area with the sushi counter front and center! I'd love to come back and sit down at a later date, I bet they make good cocktails too! We ordered a Cali roll, a Crunchy Roll, a Tuna Roll, crab salad, and Yellowfin sashimi. The order came with chopsticks and napkins and we provided our own Tamari sauce. Everything was good, and the crab salad had a ton of avocado fanned around it, yummy! Our order came to $29 which I think is a great price for a good amount of food, and I appreciate that they make their rolls into 8 pieces instead of 6 like some places, because I CAN'T be the only one who feels really awkward eating sushi in public taking huge bites!? read more

When you walk in the place looks really nice and they have really cool decor because apparently they just finished remodeling it. The service was good, the server was very attentive and nice. However, the sushi I felt was overpriced and not super great. The Spider roll was $12 so I felt I could've gotten more than 5 pieces and the soft-shell crab was kind of soggy and tasteless. The Rock n Roll was $9, AGAIN only 5 pieces and it lacked flavor as well. In my opinion, Sushi Masa & Sushi Village give you more sushi and I feel both of those places just have better sushi. The salads are another story, they were so good! The salads were actually better than the sushi. Honestly I would just come back for the Snowcrab salad because it was delicious! The Snowcrab salad had fresh avocado around it and a huge mound of crabmeat in the middle. The Seaweed salad was also good and they gave you a whole lot of it. They were definitely not skimpy with the amount of stuff they gave you in the salads. If you are looking for a sushi restaurant look no more! This place is hands down one of the BEST in town. We eat sushi out at least once a week and have been to all of the best of the best sushi places in town, so when I tell you this place is the best, I am experienced enough to give that advice! It is critical that this business improves on their estimated time your to go orders are to be picked up. 50% of the times I've showed up at the estimated time of pick up, I've waited an additional half hour minimum. It is an honor that I name their newest sushi roll- Hello there! This time we came for something other than sushi, we got Yaki Udon and Eel rice bowl. Both were pretty great, and for a dinner entree you get a lot for the price!! An entree comes with a big size salad & a soup (miso or clear). Loved the clear soup- tons of mushrooms!!! Super tasty!! I do think the Yaki Udon could have less chicken and more udon! Don't have any complaint on the eel rice bowl, it was awesome! read more

My girlfriend wanted sushi for dinner, so I figured we'd go to Hello, Sushi! Firstly, there was not nearly enough parking for the strip where the restaurant is, but we got a spot and didn't have to walk too far... The hostess wasn't very polite... she just took off with some menus and expected us to follow. We were seated back in a corner, which is fine, except that the acoustics in the place are just awful. Going to our table, I noticed that there were several dirty tables, including the one next to ours, which was never cleaned in the hour and a half we were there. Our server promptly came to take our drink order, but then disappeared for 10-15 minutes in between trips to the table. The food was good. We had the fried pork (gyoza) dumplings appetizer, which was good, but you only get 5 and they're very small--bad value. We had several sushi rolls that were very good, except the crunchy roll wasn't crunchy. They make theirs with crab and use tempura for the crunch, but the tempura was soggy. Perhaps the waiter left it sitting for too long? The teriyaki chicken dinner had a good flavor and was more plentiful than the one I got during my last visit awhile back. Yikes, this place is not too good at all. I had read the reviews on Yelp and thought I would give Hello Sushi a try - it was near my hotel as I was passing through Baton Rouge. I was seated at the sushi bar which was a mistake - the sushi chefs couldn't understand my order (wanted a California Roll with snow crab instead of the fake 'surimi' that was in the standard version). The first attempt was a Cali roll with fake crab and snow crab 'mix' (mayo and crab) on the outside. I mentioned that it wasn't what I wanted and they fixed a Cali correctly on the second try. The blue crab roll was not too good - the crab was sort of dried out. Both rolls were pretty flavorless. I also had some hamachi nigiri which was better. Also tried the pan-fried shrimp gyoza which were OK - nothing great. I got the distinct impression that no one working at this restaurant really knows anything about Japanese food. The main problem with Hello Sushi is the rice - truly bad. The nigiri and both rolls were served with hard, cold rice. An immediate improvement on the sushi here would be to serve warm, moist sushi. Not that hard to do. This rice could have been in the refrigerator given its condition. As one well-known sushi chef in Tokyo told me "rice is just as important as the quality of the fish" in sushi. Okay so today at work I found out that I had to make a run to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I was like perfect. I'm on this healthy kick. So I know exactly where to go. I looked on my handy dandy Yelp app to pull up a place that I've been to before in Baton Rouge. I searched up Hello Sushi that way I can go ahead and place my order over the phone so when i get there it can be done. So I called and a young lady picked up. She was very polite and I asked her about a certain menu item that I had just seen on the Yelp app it was the hello jalapeno poppers she explained to me what it was as far as ingredients. So I told her I would like to order it but I am 20 minutes away from Baton Rouge is it possible that you can put in my order but at least wait 15 minutes. That way I would not have a long wait once I arrive to there restaurant she told me yes I'll wait at least like 5 minutes because they were a little busy for lunch. she explained to me that by the time I got there it would be ready well when I arrive. Well my order was not even put in. she had just put in my order when I ask for my order. I had to wait an extra 15 minutes for the order to be ready. They were extremely busy which is a given due to the fact that it was lunchtime. The restaurant was clean everyone had Smiles on their faces and I even use the restroom that was also clean. When I got my order and proceeded to my car I checked my order and everything seems to be correct. I like going here but if you take phone orders please take them correctly. This place used to be nice, but now it's just gross. The floors were sticky, and so was our booth. I ordered a glass of wine and it came in a streaky / obviously dirty glass. The food was just ok. Everything was plated nice, but the ingredients didn't taste fresh. The manager argued with one of the employees in front of us about her getting something wrong with our order and it was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. Stopped here for dinner with a friend after work one day. It was around 5PMish so there was only one other table in the restaurant. My friend ordered the PokeBowl and a roll. The presentation was nice, but tasted like it lacked something. I ordered the Teriyaki steak with no sauce and cooked medium. The order took excessively long being there were only two tables in the restaurant. Our food came out and our server was MIA for about 15 minutes or so before checking back on us. Sadly, my steak was way overcooked and way over-salted. It tasted like a rubbery piece of beef dipped in salt and black pepper. The server offered to have the kitchen make another one but my friend already finished most of her meal and I hate sending food back to the kitchen. Ended up not ordering anything else and went home hungry. Overall: Was not the best dining experience in Baton Rouge. The interior is nice and well kept. I dined at Hello Sushi before, and on this particular occasion, I stopped in on my way to check into my hotel, since traffic landed me in Baton Rouge at dinner time. I was greeted by the hostess and told her I'd sit at the sushi bar (there is a small bar located behind the hostess stand) and went to the bathroom to wash my hands. Good thing, because I wasn't provided with a scorching hot washcloth or warm wet wipe. The place was empty, about three tables were occupied and I was the only one at the bar. I ordered water with lemon and a small bottle of sake, after asking the server three times, lemons arrived. The thing I love about this place is the creativity. The names are cute and the descriptions are funny and mouth watering. I was really craving sushi so I thought I better just order a couple of rolls because the soup or salad I will get at the bar will be enough to fill me up. Wrong! No soup or salad for me. What the hell? I've never sat a sushi bar and not received a little soup or salad. Right? Not a big deal, I just order an Udon noodle salad, so light and refreshing. Wrong again! Not only is the Udon noodle salad not offered, the sushi chef looked at me as though I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Fine. I'm so looking forward to the Blue Crab Roll and the Evangeline Roll that I probably don't need any filler food, plus, it's slow how long can it take? The Blue Crab was whipped together pretty quickly and was tasty. Since I was the only person at the bar, I felt I was being catered to, as the Evangeline Roll wasn't prepared immediately, so I thought, how nice that he's waiting for me to finish before presenting me with the second part of my meal. You know the answer...Wrong. Apparently my diction if off, because Evangeline didn't sound like anything on the menu, so until another sushi chef and my waiter both asked me if I needed anything and I repeated again to my original sushi chef, did the mysterious Evangeline Roll magically appear. All of that it was okay. There was a weird ingredient that I could not place...it wasn't bad, but tasted like bland cream cheese; I enjoyed it, but would probably try something else on a future visit. The big plus I have for this place is that the sushi rolls are all cut in eight pieces, so don't worry about getting lockjaw, no matter what you order, it will easily fit in your mouth. Hopefully, this was an exception to the regular service, because it was a bit disappointing and I felt that I was imposing on the staff and that it was cumbersome to wait on me. I can be high maintenance about a lot of things in my life, but when I'm dining alone at a sushi bar, I'm pretty low key. I asked for lemon not a pomegranate. Based on what I read from other Yelpers, it seems like an inconsistent place. I stopped in for convenience, but won't return any time soon. read more

This is our first time here and we're definitely adding it to the list of places to come back to! Our server, I believe her name is Whitney, has been super. She even got me to try calamari! The atmosphere is very laid back (I'm wearing a tshirt and yoga pants and don't feel out of place) and everything is clean. The food is delicious. Ordered the Ramen Noodle bowl- they could not offer me a list of things in the soup, so I had to pull a few things out after the fact. But it was super tasty and enough for two people!! The grilled chicken was a bit burnt, but almost everything else was amazing. The plain edamame was ok, some a bit soggy.
