    Calamari
    Christopher C.

The wife ,1 of our daughters .. the eldest and myself went here our last night in Rhode Island while on vacation . We had the Calamari,I would say 8/10 , this shrimp dish 7.5/10 I can't remember the name, but I do remember liking it , the shrimp were nice and big. We also had the 14 oz pork chop with some sorta slaw 8.6/10 pork chop was good and juicy I don't remember what the slaw tasted like or the other side I just liked it and last we had a Paella.. I think that's how you spell that 7.9/10 it was good.We ate for 3 and the bill was about 180 dollars or so ,good food for a damn good price ... The bread!!!!!! 9.1/10 The bread was foot to the floor DTP good ! Overall I would say an 8.4/10 food and the service 9.5/10 .

Phenomenal! Easily in my top 5 favorite restaurants of my life. Classy atmosphere, sharp service, and ALL the food was amazing. Every single dish hit hard, the stuffed quahogs packed with flavor, the sushi was fresh, and the full lobster stuffed with shrimp, scallops, and crab stuffing is a must order. That dish alone is worth the trip. Not one thing on the table was a disappointment. It's not cheap, but it's absolutely worth it. If I ever wrote a book on top restaurants in the Northeast, or honestly the entire Western Hemisphere, this would be a TOP pick.

Cold beer, strong cocktails, and delicious food! I had the calamari and a perfectly cooked burger. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were fantastic. Great ambiance and fantastic views! Highly recommend this place for special occasions or just a quick burger at the bar! Cheesecake was also AMAZING!

Came here this February on my birthday and sat at the bar. The bartender was super nice and entertaining- he made fantastic martinis. I ordered the calamari and the burger medium rare- perfect! I had one dirty gin martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives and one Basil Hayden Manhattan- both were superb and had me giggly. I love sitting at the bar and looking at the gorgeous decor and great views. I will definitely be back! Since it was my actual birthday they also gave me a complimentary dessert- I chose the cheesecake to-go because I was stuffed and they even sent me home with a candle in the box- thanks Hemenway's for making my birthday truly special this year! Can't wait to go back and sit at my new favorite spot- the bar!

I had a very enjoyable meal at Hemenway's in Providence. It's a classic seafood spot that clearly takes pride in the quality of its ingredients. I started with the jumbo shrimp, which was excellent. The shrimp were large, fresh, and perfectly chilled, paired with a traditional cocktail sauce that had just the right amount of bite. For the entrée, I ordered the seafood casserole, which was rich, creamy, and loaded with seafood. The portion was extremely generous. In fact, it was so filling I couldn't even finish it, which says a lot. It's definitely a dish worth ordering if you're in the mood for something hearty. The Old Fashioned was decent. It was balanced enough, but it didn't come with a large ice cube, which in my opinion is pretty essential for a truly top notch Old Fashioned since it controls dilution and improves presentation. The bartender was decent as well. Service was solid and professional, and the bar experience overall was good. All in all, Hemenway's delivers a strong seafood dining experience with fresh ingredients and generous portions. It's easy to see why it's a Providence staple.

We had an amazing experience. We are celebrating Mother's Day! Our lovely waiter Mason definitely made this experience very enjoyable! First of all, the restaurant was very prepared when it comes to little ones. They had a separate kids menu and a sticky stick that is entertaining for the kids (instead of the classic box of crayons). Thanks so much for understanding the difficulty of keeping them busy/entertained during the meal!! The food was delicious. We ordered a seafood tower, scallops, stuffed lobster, kids chicken breast, and the chocolate cake. I would highly recommend all of these dishes. Their bread with butter was also on point! Thanks for having us and I would definitely come back again!

Seafood tower was very filling - big lobster claw and tail portions. Got the rock crab sushi roll wich was delicious - some of the best crab I've had recently. Inside is nicer atmosphere but outside was still good for a summer evening. Service was kind and helpful. Definitely on the expensive side which is why one star off so would reserve this place for special occasions.

This paella was so good. I could not stop eating. Our waitress was thee best! I loved our seats by the window with the view of the boardwalk. Food is always fresh and worth it.

TLDR: fancy upscale seafood Come for a special occasion or if you're feeling fancy. Would recommend a res unless it's off hours or you're ok with bar seating as the place got busy on a Monday night very quickly. There's plenty of yummy seafood and the occasional turf item as well. For us the highlight was the hamachi crudo and the raw bar oysters. We could probably pass on the beef tartare. It was more raisin/fruit forward than other tartare we've had. I got the Thai cocktail which was an elevated tiki drink and perfect.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here while in town for a friend's birthday! I was trying to kill time before meeting the group and dined solo. I came in without a reservation and was able to get a nice table by the window overlooking the river. Everyone was welcoming and kind from the moment I walked in. The mocktail and food were phenomenal. The oysters with caviar bumps on top were truly amazing. I also got the crab cakes and bacon-wrapped scallops, which were also delicious. I hope to try more of the menu on another trip in the future!

My husband and I came to Hemenway's to celebrate our 19th anniversary. We first came here years ago and had a wonderful experience, so we decided to come back. From the moment we walked in the door, we were treated warm and friendly. We had a reservation, and when we arrived we were told to wait just a moment. When we arrived at our table, they had put down some rose petals. I asked my husband if he requested this, and he said no. This was very thoughtful of them! Our table was by the window, and even though it was night, the view was still nice. The ambiance romantic. I need to take a moment to speak about our waiter Mason. He was absolutely wonderful. My husband asked Mason for recommendations on drinks and food, and Mason delivered on everything. He was incredibly kind, attentive and went above and beyond as a waiter. We would come back just for him! Thank you! For food, we got scallops wrapped in bacon and crab cakes for appetizers. Both were delicious but the scallops were superb. For meals, my husband got the lobster tortellini and I got the Yellowfin Tuna. My husband devoured his food, and I ate every bite. Everything was incredible! Mason kindly brought us a crème brûlée on the house as a happy anniversary. It was to die for! I also got some mango sorbet to finish off the night. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Hemenway's! It's expensive, yes, but worth it in my opinion. We already want to come back soon.

Due to the wind, it was too chilly to eat outside, so we opted to dine inside at the beautiful Hemenway's restaurant. It was a blustery clam chowder day. Derek was our waiter, and we ordered: * Bowl New England Chowder $12 * Cup New England Chowder $10 * Side Order of Calamari $19 The chowders arrived quickly, Derek made sure the Calamari arrived shortly after we finished. Hemenway's chowder is one of our favorites, a close second to Legal Seafood chowder which we like best. Hemenway's cup is a smaller portion, a good choice if you're also going to have a salad or Calamari. My bowl of chowder was huge, a meal in itself. The Calamari was tasty and nicely cooked. It has a little zing to it, in case you don't want spicey, this may not be your best choice. Overall, a nice ambiance, great service and tasty hot food. Another five-star dining experience at Hemenway's. Yelper Tip: They have a great rewards program, sign up!

The food is delicious, but we didn't have a great service experience this time around. The wait was longer than usual for us to get any food. Thankfully we weren't in a rush. The bigger concern was around reserving of food that we saw. When we were waiting for our appetizers, we got delivered a correct main and an incorrect side. For a moment, we thought they had jumbled up when food was being delivered (getting a main before appetizers) and had given us a side of mushrooms instead of the mushroom toast. We told the individual who delivered the food that it wasn't correct, and he said we should keep it because he can't reserve it but he will get the order corrected to the mushroom toast and have our other appetizers arrive. We waited a few minutes for our server to come back to tell us what was happening, so we didn't touch the food. However, our server came back to the table and realized that the order had been delivered to the wrong table. She proceeded to pick up the 2 dishes and turned around and delivered them to the correct table. Based on the FDA Food Code, I believe reserving of food that has already hit a different table can't be reserved. Thankfully we hadn't touched it, but I was surprised by all of this at this high end of a restaurant. The food is good but this was concerning.

Will I be forced to use valet? Is there decent parking without too far of a walk? I'm disabled and would be coming in a car but am worried about my placard and other items being messed with or stolen

There is street parking available, but that can obviously be a toss up.

    Serve lunch on Saturday?

Sir. Yes they serve lunch on Saturday. I worked at Hemingway from 1985, to 1991. A very special place with great food and hospitality! Vinny

    Are there vegetarian options available?

Some side dishes. Also some salads that can be ordered sans protein.

I ended up going alone this time, but I came back with enough leftovers and commentary to share that the whole experience could easily be pieced together in anyone's head pretty clearly. The first thing that stands out is the setup. It's casual in the best possible way. Nothing pretentious, nothing overworked. You walk up, order, wait a bit, and then suddenly you've got seafood in a paper tray that somehow tastes like summer even when you're wedged into a busy city block instead of sitting by the water. There's a kind of controlled chaos to it, especially during peak hours, but it moves. I went with the absolute classics without hesitation: a fried fish sandwich and a side of fries, plus a lobster roll that, frankly, looked like it was built for someone who doesn't believe in restraint. The fish sandwich was the standout. Crisp coating, flaky inside, not greasy in that heavy way that ruins a good fry. The bun held together without collapsing into mush, which is always a small victory in a city seafood spot. The fries were solid, nothing revolutionary, but they did their job without trying to steal attention from the main event. The lobster roll was more of a classic Rhode Island style than anything over-complicated. Generous chunks, lightly dressed, and not drowned in filler. It leaned into freshness rather than gimmicks, which is exactly what you want when you're this close to the water. It didn't feel like it was trying to reinvent anything, just execute the basics well enough that you stop thinking about it and just eat. What I like about places like this is that they don't overpromise. Dune Brothers isn't trying to be a white-tablecloth seafood restaurant, and it doesn't need to be. It's quick, it's reliable, and it feels like it belongs in downtown.

We decided on the Gift Horse and circled around a couple of times to find street parking (which is also free on Sundays). At the time that we went in, all spots were busy, but we were directed to their standing bar area where we could order a drink and hang out while something became available. Literally 2 minutes later, something freed up. I started with their Silver Spring cocktail ($15) which was very good - refreshing and slightly sweet. For food, we ordered a crudo plate ($18) with a side of sourdough bread ($6), followed by oysters ($18), then the lamb burger ($22), and lastly the crispy piri piti fish (MP - $40). The crudo plate was one of our favorites. We enjoyed all the cuts of fish it came with, but our favorite was the yellowfin tuna as it was firm and flavorful. The toppings of olive oil, capers, onions, etc. were the perfect touch. The sourdough was simply toasted and buttered but oh so good. They have a happy hour for oysters from 4-5 PM where they're only $2 instead of $3 but we missed the window by a little. There is a half dozen order minimum so we did two Quonnie, two Great Salt Pond, and two Wild Goose. That's the order in which we ranked them, from best to less best. The Quonnie were smaller, but they were flavorful and the Great Salt Pond were big and meaty. All were very fresh. There are three sauces to choose from, but we went with the GH Fermented Green Chili Hot Sauce. The RI Lamb Burger was incredibly good. It was advertised as a Bulgarian style burger so we asked about the difference between Bulgarian and I guess American and it came down to the spices used. We enjoyed how juicy and well-seasoned the meat was. I loved the contrast between sweet (pepper jelly and fried onions) and salty (feta). The bread seemed homemade; it was light and fluffy and had a healthy amount of sesame seeds. The crispy piri piri fish came out last and it was not what we were expecting. My friend didn't enjoy it as much, but I liked it. The fish was battered for a crispy finish and sat over a piri piri sauce with two rolls, mustard greens, and potatoes. The piri piri sauce was tasty, not too spicy, with a thicker consistency. The rolls seemed like they were made in house; they were slightly buttery and soft. The mustard greens were good. The potatoes were similar to home fries with onions. The staff was very helpful and explained the food after delivering it. Ambiance is good.

First of all, the restaurant itself is small but very cute, cozy, and full of lovely New England-y Sea-Themed decor. We were promptly seated and had our order taken for our drinks & food - I had heard good things about this place, so I got a decent amount of food items, including: Lobster Roll - Arguably the best lobster roll I've ever had so far in my life. The brioche bun for it was soooo fluffy, soft, and a perfect complement to the big, juicy chunks of lobster that were seasoned and buttered JUST right. Also came with hefty and well-seasoned fries. New England Clam Chowder - Came with salted pork and potatoes in addition to the quahog clams. It was deliciously creamy and soothing to slurp on and the chunks within were all so tender and a great contrast. Clam Cakes - Added them to the Clam Chowder order for an extra $8. Big, hefty, doughy balls that were perfectly fried outside and ooey gooey within. Fish & Chips - Big, hefty fish that was juicy & delicious with a great crunch on the outside! Similarly came with the 'chips', or the hefty, well-seasoned fries that the lobster roll also came with. Oh yeah, pardon me, forgetting to mention the drinks! We ordered the Briny Martini and the Harbor House Punch! The Martini was great for a stronger drink and the Punch was a nice cocktail for anyone preferring something sweeter and fruitier. When it came to the food, service, and dining experience...it couldn't have been better! Everything was incredibly delicious and definitely worth ordering. This memorable experience then reached exceptional circumstances, however, as while we were in the middle of dining here and enjoying our delicious food, there was a shooting occurring just up the street at Brown University. I wish to commend the staff at Dune Brothers, who looked out for mine and their other patrons' safety and sheltering us in their restaurant as we all nervously waited for more information on what exactly was going on that evening. Waited 15 minutes before we were seated which I didn't love already because there's no waiting area and nowhere to sit where the restaurant is so you have to stand around waiting for the table. Well by the time we left there I finally understood why we had to wait another 15 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. We ordered our food and drinks and got our drinks fairly quick but the food took way too long considering that it's breakfast items and they didn't have that many tables to begin with even including inside dining. Our pancakes took almost 40 minutes to come out and our sides never even came out with the pancakes which I thought was weird. The sides didn't come out for another almost 15 minutes. By the time everything was out my son was getting fussy so I just asked for everything to be packed up to go. The high chair was also dirty and oily with food still on the sides and not cleaned at all. I was talking to the family that sat next to us because the waiter who brought out their food messed up and brought their sides to another table dropped it off then found out the food was not at the right table and brought it straight to the right table after it's been sitting at the wrong table for a few minutes at that point! That family also said they waited a really long time for their food and their food didn't all come out at the same time either so it seems like this is normal. I also went to ask the hostess how much longer for our food before our pancakes came out few minutes later. She asked me how long it's been since I put in my order I said about 30 min already and she said oh that's sounds about right. So that just proves that food normally take this long to get out to the table! I'm used to way shorter wait times for breakfast foods this just didn't seem normal to me. Let's get to the food! I had the original pancakes with the blueberry and strawberry, got a side of scrambled eggs, sausages, and home fries. For drinks I got a fresh orange juice and my sister got the Dubai chocolate latte. The Dubai chocolate latte was delicious and so was the orange juice but definitely over priced for the portion size, but I guess it's acceptable being federal hill prices for most people? Personally I thought it was way overpriced not just the drinks but everything considering the proportions. The pancakes were ok didn't taste as eggy as I expected being that it's supposed to be more egg based which is totally fine the texture was good. The strawberries on top I thought were going to be fresh strawberries but it seems like it's more of a compote. The scrambled eggs were a little too charred for my liking I've never really had scrambled eggs charred before. Potatoes were ok for the most part in terms of flavor but my sister had some that were still kinda undercooked and hard. The sausages were really flavorful. Overall I don't think we'll be returning or recommend this place for the breakfast at least. Way overpriced and not worth the hype.

The tacos were outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared with high-quality ingredients. The frijoles dip was rich, creamy, and incredibly addictive, making it the perfect way to start the meal. The mole was exceptional, with a deep, complex flavor that showcased the care and authenticity put into every dish. To top it all off, the mezcal shots were smooth, unique, and a great complement to the meal, adding an authentic touch to the overall experience. Beyond the incredible food and drinks, the atmosphere, service and specially the people made the evening even more enjoyable. If you're looking for authentic Latin cuisine with outstanding flavors and a memorable dining experience, Aguadente should absolutely be on your list. I highly recommend making a visit--you won't be disappointed! The Gal and the Guy from California

My friend and I came here on Father's Day expecting it to be packed, which it was, but there were…read morestill a few tables available, both inside and outside. At their front patio, they had the World Cup game playing, but the back patio felt cozier so we opted for that. The inside though was a strong second since the lighting is very low, creating a cool and calm environment. Walking through the restaurant to get to our table made me realize that each table is unique, no two are decorated the same or have the same furniture. It was a hot day but the overhead mesh cover blocked out a lot of the sun. Our waitress made us feel very welcome from the start and told us about their drink and food specials. My friend ordered Guatemalan beer as well as a Spanish beer. For food, we ordered the plantain fries, octopus, calamari, and shrimp salad, and grilled lamp chops. The seafood salad came out first. According to the menu, it was going to be paired with cornbread. It looked like sourdough bread but had a far denser consistency. I was expecting the salad to have lots of shrimp to act as a filler but surprisingly, it was about 60% octopus, 25% calamari, 10% shrimp, and 5% onions. The seafood was very flavorful, tasted fresh, and cooked perfectly. The portion size was great for two. Next came the plantain fries, which I was least impressed with as it was essentially fried plantain chunks. I think it would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces that can be easily dipped and consumed in one bite. The plantain was gently ripe, so just a little sweet and the dipping sauce was like a less sour sour cream. Lastly, the lamp chops came out and the presentation was wonderful. They were a bit skinnier and less tender than that I was expecting, but flavor wise they were good. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service here.
