We arrived at 6:25 PM and were happy to see they offered valet, which was convenient. The coat check attendant was also very friendly and welcoming. We were seated promptly, but unfortunately the experience went downhill from there. Our server was kind and courteous, however every single course -- including drinks -- took an extremely long time to come out. We ordered cocktails, two appetizers, and four entrees. By 7:30 PM we had only received our drinks. Our appetizers didn't arrive until around 8:30 PM, and our entrees didn't come out until after 9:30 PM. To make matters worse, the entrees arrived cold. My ravioli was mushy and completely inedible. We came to celebrate Mother's Day and ended up having to extend our babysitter's hours and pay extra because the service was so incredibly slow -- all for a disappointing meal and overall experience. read more

To start, the kindness and warmth extended to us is always heartwarming in that stunning ambiance of candles and floral arrangements. Our maitre d' and also waiter that night last week was phenomenal in every way - accurate, timely, and specific regarding the specials offered that evening. We began with a delicious chicken soup accompanied by their great bread basket of, wheat and white bread served with a soft butter; and those breadsticks are dynamic when dropped into the soup! My husband truly enjoyed his entree of the Medallions of Filet Mignon which were Pan-Seared,along with French mashed potatoes/Pomme Purée, Broccolini, and Cipollini Onion in a Red Wine Bordelaise. I had a taste and it was excellent. I always enjoy the Tre-Colore Salad consisting of arugula, Belgian Endive, Radicchio, Cabernet Vinaigrette, Parmigiano-Reggiano along with that bread basket. Went for Mother's very disappointed in service It was extremely slow. We had to ask for more water and drinks. It was 25minute to get drinks after we ordered them then we waited 45 minutes to get our appetizers. after appetizers cleared it took another hour plus to get our entrees. My son order lobster with linguine there was less than a quarter pound of linguine and a half of a lobster tail ($51) other son's vegges had absolutely no seasonings on it. My husband's veal chop was over cooked he ordered it medium rare go just the opposite. After this experience definitely won be going back. read more

Date night at capriccio! The atmosphere is second to none and we both love dinning in here! It's been a little since we have been here but it's still as we remember it. Right away we started with the Caesar and calamari. Both were good but nothing that rocked our world. A few tables over a couple ordered the shrimp Scampi which smelt delicious as it was being prepared table side so I decided to get that and my GF got the filet. Her filet was good, it had a red wine glaze sauce on it that was tasty. My dinner wasn't that good, the shrimp was excellent but the scampi sauce itself wasn't doing it for me unfortunately. This restaurant has been around for decades and known as one of RI's top romantic restaurants. My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary and it was the most perfect spot to celebrate. The ambiance is intimate, upscale, and classy. They offer valet parking and coat check upon arrival. Service is great, the staff is very attentive and professional. The food was good. The shrimp scampi was made right at the table, offering an amazing presentation and was the WOW factor of the night. The filet had a char on the outside and was cooked perfect in the middle. We came here for a birthday party last weekend. The building was cute and Ina good location- they had valet service which made things super easy. We arrived 5 minutes early for a 7pm reservation for 18. We were escorted downstairs past the bar into a small back room with circular tables. The service here was fantastic. Our waitress was very genuine . I was disappointed about a preset multi course menu- I don't eat cheese, but the waitress was able to adapt a few things for me. Our drinks came-- and that is when things slowed down. A lot. We were told another birthday party of 40 in another room arrived 1.5 hours late for their reservation that was why our service was backed up. It took an hour to get our appetizers and went downhill from there. It was over 3.5 hours beginning to end- we had to leave before desert was served so took ours to go. I don't know how desert was, as we gave it to a friend--- the only desert we could get to go was tiramisu and we don't care for it. For two dinners, two drinks and tips we were in it for $225. I had to leave my card with my oldest daughter as they will not do seperate checks for a party. I got the veal parm no cheese-- and it was cold . Came with 5 gnocchis. I really didn't enjoy it and left more than half of it there. The house salad was good - and my appetizer was a dish with beets and cheese, just did not cheese and that was probably the best thing of the night. It was a pretty bad experience given this was my first time here-- we generally dine on the hill for Italian. Those in our party that frequent here for dinner stated it was no where near the quality they experienced previously. Other than the great attitude of the wait staff and the cute interior I don't have much else to say that is positive. Given this experience we won't go back. read more

I enjoyed my first time at Capriccio. It is conveniently located next to a pay-by-the-hour parking lot. The restaurant is well furnished with a romantic ambiance. Service was excellent, right from the moment you step in. Our waiter was welcoming, polite, prompt, attentive, and knowledgeable on each menu item. Presentation was equally if not more impressive - each dish is plated like a piece of art, with amazing detail and vibrant colors. I tried the arancini, kobe carpaccio, and burrata appetizers, all of which were delicious. The caesar salad and my main entree, the Scottish salmon, were both pretty good, but I will certainly be trying the chicken piccata or veal parm next time. Both of these dishes looked amazing, and the chicken/ veal is pounded very thin, almost filling the entire plate, and cooked to perfection. I have also heard great things about their beef wellington. The tiramisu was very good. Overall, I had a great experience here and will certainly be returning to try some of their more popular dishes. read more

i had a spectacular experience here. i had never been and it was a place i walked by a million times because my favorite mural is there. my student invited me to graduation dinner, we were a party of 8. our server was soooo sweet and hospitable. he went out of his way to make it a memorable celebration, and he noticed i don't eat pork so he paid special attention to what went on my plate. my student's family did drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. i had tea, grilled oysters, arancini, beef wellington, enjoyed the bread service, finished my friend's beef stroganoff, and tried the chocolate cake, and the cannoli. (listen i'm bulking rn). they literally finished grilling the carrots tableside for my beef wellington so that they are crisp on my plate. i loved the underground luxury feel. so classic. so would return. read more

I came here for the first time during restaurant week and from the ambiance and service to the quality of the food it was a great experience. The restaurant is cozy and soft lit with white table clothes. Both the waiter and the person pouring water were really attentive and pleasantly chatty. All the food we got from the three course restaurant week menu was delicious. My favorite was probably the arancini. It had good umami and creamy flavors. The surf and turf was also good. I liked the seasoning on the steak and the shrimp were well cooked. The spumoni wasn't the greatest, and my boyfriend who got the cream brûlée, also thought that wasn't the best thing he'd had, so maybe dessert isn't a strong focus. Neither were bad, just a notable difference in quality from the rest of the meal. I don't think there is a dedicated parking lot, but there's a variety of paid garages and lots nearby. Service was great, drinks were perfect and the arancini appetizer was fantastic, wife had the theater prefix menu and had the chicken parm which was very good..I had the steak au poivre, wasn't blown away with the flavor, was hoping for a more peppery flavor and it was sort of flat in its taste. The ambience is really the only reason I would go back, between that and the service it is really good, but all in all it's got to be the food that makes you crave going back and I don't think the food was great enough to drive me to coming back sooner. read more

Upon walking into Capriccio, I immediately felt like I was in Little Italy in NYC, which is not a bad thing in general. Despite descending stairs to get in, the feeling when entering was dramatic. The service during the meal was decent, if a bit slower than I would expect. Our server was engaging and answered our questions. The food was also pretty good. The bread on the table was delicious. The clams capriccio as an appetizer were unimpressive. My wife got chimichurri skirt steak, a special, and was not disappointed. I got the duck with the grand marnier sauce and enjoyed it, though not as much as the server seemed to think I would. So why only 3 stars? Well, we both ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine. The Puilly Fuisse my wife ordered arrived without an issue. The 1/2 bottle Chateau Greysac I wanted was not available. Disappointing, but this can happen. Unfortunately the whole reason I chose the restaurant was my desire to have the Dover sole. That, too, was unavailable. Considering the price point of the restaurant, I expect better. read more

We also were fortunate to visit during restaurant week, so we each got a 3 course meal for around $45. Server was all over the place. We had to ask for water and bread. Lobster bisque was too salty. Lobster cardinale gives you two little pieces of lobster and tons of pasta. Ossobucco was ok but I didn't like how they put it over grits instead of potatoes. The only thing we actually liked was the Arancini. We were served dirty silverware and had to send it back. It began with my glass of wine which I ordered. He advised me they did not have it. Instead got a $25.00 dollar glass of wine instead. Going forward, we were a party of 3. 2 tried to order Veal Saltimbocca and he replied no do not order that, as if it were bad. He suggested the veal porterhouse. So that is what was ordered. The atmosphere is very quiet, dimly lit and romantic. Our server greeted us soon after being seated. He was very friendly and professional. Their wine list is lengthy. We chose a bottle of white wine. My husband ordered off the "restaurant week" menu which was 3 courses. He chose the arancini as a starter, the tenderloin risotto as the entree and tiramisu as dessert. I sampled a bite of everything and it was beyond amazing! Each portion was large as well. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It was a tad over cooked but nothing that made it Inedible. It was accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and baby carrots. I want to first say, that my service from Gwen was top notch! She was polite, enjoyable to chat with but never too intrusive. Her ability to read silent queues from her guests was excellent. Now... on to the food! The arancini would have been delicious on its own, but once you add that cacio e pepe sauce, it was incredible! The stuffed lobster was almost too much for one person. Incredibly rich and could use some extra citrus to cut through it. The tiramisu was a good portion was again so rich and sweet it was hard to get through. I ended up leaving half on my plate. Not for lack of flavor, but rather just being over-indulged. For the wine list. It was extensive and included a lot of staples, and while I did not have one this time around, I want to try one of their reserve bottles next time. I ended up with the 2017 Collina dei Lecci Brunello di Montalcino, when the menu stated it was a 2014, but I wanted disappointed. It paired well and held up to the otherwise rich dinner. There are many other dishes I wanted to try on the menu, but hey, I'm only one person. Maybe I'll be back for another option! The restaurant reminds me of an Italian grotto and is well decorated. The only thing I noticed is how much it echoes in the restaurant. I could clearly hear the conversations of the parties across the room, and I don't think my hearing is that great! I'll first start by stating the food is excellent. The staff inside was friendly also. I'm not able to give more than a star due to the treatment of the valet/door staff When I pulled up to have my car valeted, I was shooshed away by one of the 2 men sitting outside talking. The valet sign was not set up and I thought maybe they weren't offering it since it was late. I parked in the back and when I went to the door I asked if it was ok that I park in the back and was told no. Then when I asked why they dismissed me when I pulled up he said "I thought you were an Uber driver" and I felt insulted. Had I drove up in a nicer car, would he have been dismissive..I think not. Then the other proceeds to tell me I can't get it valeted if I don't pull up to the other side of the street (how was I to know that on the small street that is barely two car lengths wide that one needs to pull right up to his feet to get their car parked apparently. To make matters worse, once I left the man who retrieved my car taps on my window and has the audacity to ask me for a tip and says "don't you know what gratuity is?" You should have cash and it's expected that he gets a tip. Are you kidding me? I would never go into this establishment if I have to encounter that rude and disrespectful valet again. It's too bad, because without him.. this would've been a very different review. read more

First time at Capriccio. We had 4pm reservations and when we arrived we requested bar seating and were accommodated quickly. Our bartenders were Kelsey and her sister (I wish I could remember her sister's name, 2 of the best bartenders). We started off with the mozzarella app and it was pretty good. For dinner, my wife had a chicken dish which she loved and I had the ribeye. My steak was a little tough but all in all the flavor was great. After dinner my wife had an expresso martini which she loved. I am a non drinker and always get a double espresso but Kelsey made me a non-alcoholic espresso martini which was excellent. She went say above and beyond. We had great conversations with both bartenders and they made the night. read more

So I'd been to what many Rhode Islanders would consider an "institution " once before an it was over a decade ago and was for lunch. Last night Laura and I decided to try it out for dinner. The ambiance is dark yet elegant as Capriccio's is in the basement of an old turn of the century building. All the wait staff are dressed in black slacks white shirts and black bow ties. The service was professional and Heidi our waitress was friendly and efficient. We started with splitting a Caesar Salad and we are glad we did as it was plenty for both of us and quite good. Laura got the Sea Bass special with lobster risotto and spinach. She gave it a 3.75. I ordered the Veal Parmigiana assuming this place would do it well. And they did but I was hoping for a bit more gnocchi than 8/9 pieces. Overall it was a good dining experience but I think there are better Italian restaurants in RI. Salud! read more

I enjoyed the pasta and cocktails. The salad was fresh and basic. But I heard the salmon appetizer was amazing. Because it was restaurant week, so it was a lot of people. Unfortunately, their restaurant week menu has no vegetarian options for entree, so I ended up ordering from the regular menu. I'm glad I did that because the gnocchi was great. Tiramisu was also the wonderful finish of the meal. I reduced one star due to the long wait to order food, getting food, and I was accidentally splashed cheese all over my dress. read more
