Overall decent experience! While it definitely caters to a touristy crowd, we were glad to snag a last min reservation, and several dishes made it well worth the visit. Tuna Crudo (4.5/5): Excellent flavor profile, the sauce paired nicely with the fresh tuna Clam Chowder & Seafood Casserole (4.5/5): Both were fantastic comfort options; the casserole was rich, creamy, and cheesy. Fresh Fusilli (4.5/5): Having heard their pasta leans very firm/al dente, I asked for it cooked a little longer, it came out cooked to my preference and tasted great! Dressed Cucumber (4.25/5): The perfect refreshing palate cleanser alongside heavier dishes NY Sirloin (4/5): Tender and well-cooked steak, but the sauce was an odd fit and the side of flat cilantro noodles was an unexpected pairing that didn't really work Yellowfin Tartare (4.25/5) & Green Beans (4.25/5): Both had great texture, but ran a touch salty. Lobster Bisque (2/5): Lacked any visible or substantial lobster meat and had an unpleasantly sweet taste

After our self guided Providence Downtown Art Tour, compliments of The Avenue Concept, we arrived at Hemneway's. Our reservation was for outside seating, and we appreciated the hostess's flexibility when we decided to change from outdoor to indoor seating. We were promptly seated at a table, and our waiter appeared shortly afterward. We ordered water, a beer, a Chardonnay, two glasses of red sangria, and a side glass of ice. One of the sangrias had to be returned because it was cloudy and didn't taste right. This was quickly corrected, and the replacement was good. The glass of ice never arrived, but we didn't bother following up on it. We shared two appetizers, the calamari and a Caesar salad. The salad was excellent. The calamari seemed like a much smaller portion than we've received in the past, and we also found it somewhat dry. Our entrées were the tuna, paella, eggplant Milanese, and half chicken. We enjoyed all of them with the exception of the chicken. We preferred the previous version of this dish and found the potatoes soft and mushy. Service was very good at the beginning of the meal, but as the evening progressed, the restaurant became very busy and our very nice server was handling a large number of tables. Perhaps Hemenway's was a little short-staffed on this busy Saturday evening. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and certainly intend to return. Tip: Complimentary Valet Parking is provided in the garage adjacent to the restaurant. Have the waiter validate your parking ticket for up to three hours of free parking.

Rhode Island Clam Chowder, Table Bread

The legendary best seafood restaurant in Providence. I tried the Rhode Island Clam Chowder, but honestly, I couldn't get used to it... Rhode Island Clam Chowder: It's said the difference between it and the New England Clam Chowder is the absence of cream and batter, but it was completely different... It's supposed to be a clear broth, but it wasn't light at all. The taste was a bit like KFC chicken gravy with a touch of vinegar--neither flavorful nor rich. Table Bread: The bread was rather dry and hard, and the buttercream had no salt at all; it was greasy and not fragrant. I waited a long time for takeout, and finally couldn't resist asking the waiter, only to find that it had already been packed.

Really great dining experience. I would say it is a must go to when in Providence. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and gave great suggestions. The food was incredible. We shared some appetizers and some entrees. There were 6 of us in total and everyone was inpressed with their dishes. I really enjoyed the mussels and the stuffed lobster.

Amazing restaurant in Providence. Right on the river with a beautiful view of the water. Lots of great options on the menu- making it hard to choose. They use local vendors and fresh caught fish. Great wine list and cocktails. They have an appetizer samplers that includes traditional Rhode Island stuffies, but stuffies themselves were not listed separately. Our waiter said we could order them separately. Great service and they were delicious! A few of us got the lobster- fisherman's style. That means it was stuffed with seafood like scallops and shrimp. Sooo tasty! If you want a fantastic meal, this is the spot. Make sure to book ahead.

And the Olive Oil Cake...My goodness!

Came here without a reservation around 5:30/5:45 and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. If I were rating based on ambiance alone, this would easily be 5 stars. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful both inside and out, and the atmosphere really sets the tone for a great dining experience. The menu also looked fantastic with a lot of appealing options. I ended up ordering the baked shrimp, which came with seasoned potatoes and string beans. Unfortunately, the dish didn't quite meet expectations. The potatoes were described as seasoned, but leaned more toward a Cajun-style flavor, which wasn't what I was expecting. The string beans were also quite undercooked. For a $29 dish at a fine dining restaurant, I was hoping for a more polished meal. That said, the service was good, and the ambiance truly stands out as a highlight. Overall, I left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the food, but I would consider giving it another try if I'm back in town, as the setting alone makes it worth revisiting.

Phenomenal! Easily in my top 5 favorite restaurants of my life. Classy atmosphere, sharp service, and ALL the food was amazing. Every single dish hit hard, the stuffed quahogs packed with flavor, the sushi was fresh, and the full lobster stuffed with shrimp, scallops, and crab stuffing is a must order. That dish alone is worth the trip. Not one thing on the table was a disappointment. It's not cheap, but it's absolutely worth it. If I ever wrote a book on top restaurants in the Northeast, or honestly the entire Western Hemisphere, this would be a TOP pick.

Seafood tower was very filling - big lobster claw and tail portions. Got the rock crab sushi roll wich was delicious - some of the best crab I've had recently. Inside is nicer atmosphere but outside was still good for a summer evening. Service was kind and helpful. Definitely on the expensive side which is why one star off so would reserve this place for special occasions.

Came here this February on my birthday and sat at the bar. The bartender was super nice and entertaining- he made fantastic martinis. I ordered the calamari and the burger medium rare- perfect! I had one dirty gin martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives and one Basil Hayden Manhattan- both were superb and had me giggly. I love sitting at the bar and looking at the gorgeous decor and great views. I will definitely be back! Since it was my actual birthday they also gave me a complimentary dessert- I chose the cheesecake to-go because I was stuffed and they even sent me home with a candle in the box- thanks Hemenway's for making my birthday truly special this year! Can't wait to go back and sit at my new favorite spot- the bar!

The wife ,1 of our daughters .. the eldest and myself went here our last night in Rhode Island while on vacation . We had the Calamari,I would say 8/10 , this shrimp dish 7.5/10 I can't remember the name, but I do remember liking it , the shrimp were nice and big. We also had the 14 oz pork chop with some sorta slaw 8.6/10 pork chop was good and juicy I don't remember what the slaw tasted like or the other side I just liked it and last we had a Paella.. I think that's how you spell that 7.9/10 it was good.We ate for 3 and the bill was about 180 dollars or so ,good food for a damn good price ... The bread!!!!!! 9.1/10 The bread was foot to the floor DTP good ! Overall I would say an 8.4/10 food and the service 9.5/10 .

Cold beer, strong cocktails, and delicious food! I had the calamari and a perfectly cooked burger. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were fantastic. Great ambiance and fantastic views! Highly recommend this place for special occasions or just a quick burger at the bar! Cheesecake was also AMAZING!

I had a very enjoyable meal at Hemenway's in Providence. It's a classic seafood spot that clearly takes pride in the quality of its ingredients. I started with the jumbo shrimp, which was excellent. The shrimp were large, fresh, and perfectly chilled, paired with a traditional cocktail sauce that had just the right amount of bite. For the entrée, I ordered the seafood casserole, which was rich, creamy, and loaded with seafood. The portion was extremely generous. In fact, it was so filling I couldn't even finish it, which says a lot. It's definitely a dish worth ordering if you're in the mood for something hearty. The Old Fashioned was decent. It was balanced enough, but it didn't come with a large ice cube, which in my opinion is pretty essential for a truly top notch Old Fashioned since it controls dilution and improves presentation. The bartender was decent as well. Service was solid and professional, and the bar experience overall was good. All in all, Hemenway's delivers a strong seafood dining experience with fresh ingredients and generous portions. It's easy to see why it's a Providence staple.

Will I be forced to use valet? Is there decent parking without too far of a walk? I'm disabled and would be coming in a car but am worried about my placard and other items being messed with or stolen

There is street parking available, but that can obviously be a toss up.

We started out with my husband's newfound favorite, the clam cakes. I appreciated the herbiness of the breadcrumbs they were fried in. My husband got the crab roll for his entree, and I did like the bite I was able to sneak of it. I really wanted the lobster roll but that $42 price tag turned me away quickly. Instead I got the fish and chips with pollock for my entree. I am always complaining about portion sizes. Not here, I was only able to finish around 1/3 of it. It is substantial! Not only was it a generous portion, but it was really nicely fried, and I loved the flaky salt on it. My one complaint is the sauces that you pay extra for. I got some piri-piri mayo and garlic aioli. Both of these were absolutely not worth it, grossly lacking in flavor. Don't waste your money on these and stick with ketchup. The staff was friendly, helpful, and as attentive as they could be from inside the food truck. The locale is super cute with a bunch of picnic tables out on a patio. First of all, the restaurant itself is small but very cute, cozy, and full of lovely New England-y Sea-Themed decor. We were promptly seated and had our order taken for our drinks & food - I had heard good things about this place, so I got a decent amount of food items, including: Lobster Roll - Arguably the best lobster roll I've ever had so far in my life. The brioche bun for it was soooo fluffy, soft, and a perfect complement to the big, juicy chunks of lobster that were seasoned and buttered JUST right. Also came with hefty and well-seasoned fries. New England Clam Chowder - Came with salted pork and potatoes in addition to the quahog clams. It was deliciously creamy and soothing to slurp on and the chunks within were all so tender and a great contrast. Clam Cakes - Added them to the Clam Chowder order for an extra $8. Big, hefty, doughy balls that were perfectly fried outside and ooey gooey within. Fish & Chips - Big, hefty fish that was juicy & delicious with a great crunch on the outside! Similarly came with the 'chips', or the hefty, well-seasoned fries that the lobster roll also came with. Oh yeah, pardon me, forgetting to mention the drinks! We ordered the Briny Martini and the Harbor House Punch! The Martini was great for a stronger drink and the Punch was a nice cocktail for anyone preferring something sweeter and fruitier. Needless to say, it was a disappointing start to what was supposed to be a special family evening. Thankfully, a quick call to Aguardente in Fox Point changed everything. The person who answered explained that they weren't taking reservations that evening, but they did have one outdoor table left if we could make it there in time. Despite the challenges of navigating Providence during the World Cup festivities and the Cape Verde Festival in the Fox Point area, we managed to get to the restaurant and secure that last table. We are incredibly grateful to the staff at Aguardente for helping turn our evening around. Our daughter and son-in-law were hoping to enjoy one last dinner with both families before leaving on Monday for a special assignment in South Carolina, and the unexpected closure of our original restaurant had left everyone feeling frustrated and disappointed. From the moment we arrived, the team at Aguardente made us feel welcome. The food was excellent, the drinks were wonderful, and the service was outstanding. Most importantly, they helped transform what had begun as a stressful evening into a memorable celebration with family. Thank you to everyone at Aguardente for your kindness, hospitality, and professionalism. You made our families smile and created a special memory during an important moment in our lives. We highly recommend Aguardente and look forward to returning. -- A very grateful family

Atmosphere: cute outdoor seating area for summer nights. The inside has cool decor (including a…read morebathroom that apparently won an award??), but is very small and cramped. The upper 'porch' like area looks really fun, but the table we were seated at was so close to the other tables I was uncomfortable. I get that we're in a city, but I value my personal space and privacy and felt like the whole restaurant could hear my every word - ick. Service: our server seemed annoyed that I didn't want an alcoholic drink, and was not very helpful. Half of the menu is not in English (very chaotic how some portions are in English and others are not, it doesn't seem consistent), so we had some questions, such as "what does x taste like?" and the only response we got was "not too sweet"....okay, but what DOES it taste like? She spoke very fast and I couldn't understand her listing off the specials, even though she didn't really have an accent. She left partway through while we were there so I guess she was just at the end of her shift and checked out, but it was so offputting how rude and unhelpful she was. When our servers transitioned, we offered to cash out then since we weren't getting anything else and wanted the original server to get her tips, but she started joking around that we didn't have to do that - which I appreciate, but we actually did want to get going and get cashed out, but she refused to give us our check. I asked three times and she still wouldn't 'let us do that'...very weird. Food: there were not a ton of vegetarian options that appealed to me. I went a little overboard on plantains by accident, which is my mistake. I first ordered the Rellenitos with cilantro crema sauce, which were very good and a flavor combination I wasn't expecting. The dough to filling ratio was a little off and they were pretty dry inside, so I needed a lot of the sauce. An order only came with 2 and I wish it was more. I'm glad I ordered something else - Tula Fries, which came with the same exact cilantro creme sauce as the Rellenitos, even though they are described differently on the menu, which felt lazy to repeat a sauce. The sauce didn't go well with them at all in my opinion so I did not enjoy these as much as I would've liked. My friend enjoyed her drink, but thought almost all of the meat on her meat and cheese board was either low quality or close to going bad. It was priced reasonably, which we were shocked by, but she couldn't eat a good portion of it sadly. We did really enjoy the baked flava bean snack that was a part of it. The board weirdly came with just half of one small, half rotten strawberry that looked terrible - it would've been better to leave it off. Towards the end of the night, there was so much water on the floor in the hallway that goes to the bathroom and passes the kitchen - I had to walk through it to go to the bathroom, which felt like a safety hazard. My friend was on crutches and wouldn't even try to get over there since we knew she'd slip on all the water. It just looked terrible and was dangerous, so not sure what we going on that there was such a water issue there. Their specialties and more meat based dishes are probably great, but there just aren't a ton of things for me to eat here. I'd be willing to try it again for drinks and apps if the service wasn't so unwelcoming.

This review has been long overdue. I never even make reviews but Rogue Island is so good that I had…read moreto create a yelp account just so I could share our experiences there. This a local spot, if you know, you know, and if you don't, now you do :) Let me just say that if there is one thing to really focus in on, it's consistency. In today's economy with everything so expensive you sometimes feel like you don't get the best value for money spent. So let me tell you, these guys and girls nail it every single time. First off it's a super cozy spot, perfectly lit with a high end tavern type feel. Service is always prompt and friendly. Ask anyone working and they're happy to help you out. You'll never hear let me get your server. Drinks ! Specialty drafts that are nearly impossible to find anywhere else. Drinks that are so well thought out and properly made. The wife hasn't been able to complain once ;) and that's saying something. The dishes speak for themselves just look at the pics. Who makes sausage cups for dipping ??! This place does. The wife had a watermelon salad here years ago and hasn't stopped talking about it. There is literally something here for everyone and every pallet preference. You have to try their brunch ! It's nice to see a place that really prides itself on what it serves. The wife and I were able to get a sitter and finally have a dinner night and Rogue never disappoints. Getting into the city can be a pain sometimes but it's so worth it coming here. They buy their products from local sources and they're a local business. I love to support it and can't wait to eat here again. For me to take the time to write this is saying a lot but the guys and girls who make this place run, really deserve the recognition. I hope you try them out.

I've been really impressed with the quality and freshness of the ingredients here. The food has been excellent, and you can tell there is a real emphasis on using local products rather than simply putting the words "farm to table" on the menu and calling it a day. The food was fantastic. Everything we've had has been fresh and well prepared, and I really appreciate restaurants that put some thought into where their ingredients are coming from. Rogue Island's menu has a good variety without becoming overwhelming, and there are plenty of interesting options beyond the standard restaurant fare. They also have a great selection of local and regional beers, which is always a plus for me. The restaurant itself is clean, organized, and has a really comfortable atmosphere inside The Arcade. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Nobody made us feel rushed, and everyone we interacted with seemed genuinely happy to have us there. That's one of those things that sounds simple, but it makes a difference when you're sitting down for a meal. The only real drawback is parking, which can be a little tricky because you're dealing with downtown Providence. That's hardly Rogue Island's fault, and once you're parked and inside The Arcade, it's a pretty easy place to get to. I actually like the location because you can make a meal here part of an afternoon or evening downtown rather than treating it as a destination that requires a whole separate trip. We also heard they do brunch, and now my wife is interested in checking that out, so I'm sure we'll be back. Considering how good everything we've had so far has been, I'm perfectly happy to let her pick the brunch spot next time. Five stars from me. Great food, fresh local ingredients, good beer, friendly people, and a really cool location inside one of Providence's most interesting buildings. Rogue Island is exactly the kind of local restaurant I like discovering, and I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu.
