This is my second favorite Jamaican restaurant to dine in/takeout. The customer service is beyond amazing. The Chinese section everything taste freshly made and delicious which makes it my go to. I highly recommend the sweet sour wings or the jerk wings. If you have a thing for spicy food do not give the pepper shrimp s try. Today i wanted to try something new. So i opted for the chicken and shrimp Rasta pasta. For the price of 15/16.00 i believe you got a huge portion. How ever the sauce was to watery and barely had no flavor. I wish it had more onions , carrots and peppers in the pasta. It's a hit or miss. Maybe next time i will try it when i dine in. I never order stew peas from restaurants Bc i was scared it wouldn't be made the same. But today i decided to try something new from here and i must say I'm happy i got a large stew peas. I have a super love hate relationship with this place. The food is good BUT when they have it. They almost always can't find your order. You are almost always waiting over an additional hour for your food. They totally have not respected this covid situation and forced social distancing. Pick up has been a struggle. I really wish they would get their act together. Each time I say it's going to be my last time but I've been coming here since I was younger when it was Nagasaki and it's like nostalgic when I go. However, I can't take much more of this. Fix the attitudes please. Delete items off of the menu if you have an issue keeping them in stock. When you get an order online and you don't have the item. Make the rest of the order or call the person. DO NOT WAIT for the customer to come in and tell them their order is not ready because you didn't have roast pork but they had seven other items that could have been ready. Now and then wifey and I reminisce how wonderful Nakasaki in Long Island was. It's so sad that it had been closed for years. I had loved their Jamaican/Chinese selections. I remember for dinner...I had half a plate of jerk chicken with rice and peas and the other half was sweet-n-sour chicken. I did some research and found Henrica's Restaurant in Rosedale. So we had decided to order stamp and go (codfish ball), which brought me back to when my mom used to make them growing up. The seasoning is hands down on point! I then ate the sweet and sour jerk which was also very good. I am having a hard time finding a chinese restaurant who includes green (and or red) peppers and pineapples in the sweet and sour sauce. Well Henrica's does!! I am not a lo mein fan like how my wife is, but she loved her jerk chicken lo mein from this place. She said it's addicting! This was our first time ordering food from this place using UberEats and we were worried that the food would be cold or tasteless..but the whole order was pretty hot and delicious. Great mixture of Caribbean and Chinese food! They have so many items to choose from that you won't really know what to decide. Thankfully there was a combination entree where I got to try the jerk chicken, with curry goat! Both were pretty good. In addition to that you get the option between steamed vegetables or garden salad and for an additional cost you can substitute rice/rice and peas for mac and cheese or vegetable fried rice (+$2.25). Food took a very long time to be ready (take-out) so I suggest calling ahead (if happen to know what you want). Although it took long, everything was hot and fresh. Let me tell y'all bout this restaurant real quick. While the service wasn't bad, it was wayyyy too slow. Our waitress was very friendly and nice but they must have been short-staffed or something because everything took forever and a day! On to the food, which was pretty darn good especially the codfish cakes appetizers. I had the stew red snapper, very-well seasoned and the baked macaroni and cheese AKA macaroni pie which was not at all delightful. We were given complimentary chicken soup since they were serving so slow. There was a really big group in attendance which may have contributed to the slow pace of service. The restaurant had a decent ambiance and there was a man singing some old school soulful tunes and classic reggae which was a nice touch though a bit on the loud side. I gave this restaurant a 4 Star rating because there food is amazing. I've been going here for years. My boyfriend loves their oxtail and chicken soup. We had stopped going for almost 3 years. We have recently started going back. This is our second time in the last 2 months. The food is still exceptional BUT the staff needs work. We went 1/1/18 and it was very quiet there. It seemed it was one person seating people, working the bar and waitering the tables. Every time I go the staff is always slow. They are pleasant, but when you are working alone it's hard to please you're customers. I was there also in December can't recall the date. But we spent almost 3 hours there, and we were just waiting and waiting and awaiting. The staff wasn't working well together and helping each other out. This restaurant has a lot of potential because the food is so delicious. The drinks are strong and great. The atmosphere is comfortable. The music is always great. Stopped by for dinner during a long layover at JFK. With traffic, the taxi took about 15min to get here from the airport ($20). They offer complimentary soup or salad to start! The salad is a simple garden salad with a choice of dressing and the soup was a rice and peas soup. I chose the salad with ranch. The salad was fresh and refreshing. For the entree I got the shrimp with curry sauce ($15). Option to have it prepared spicy or mild and option of white rice or rice and peas as the side. I chose mild with the rice and peas. There shrimp was flavorful, cooked just right and there was no trace of any spice in the mild sauce. The rice and peas are a must -- it is delicious. My companion ordered the red snapper with vegetables. The fish was moist and tasted very fresh. The sauce has a slight kick to it, but it was also very flavorful. Vegetables were steamed and mixed in with the sauce. These people dont know anything bout jamaican food. When the the food arrived it looked delicious but the taste was not good. I ordered on January 29 2022. red peas soup and also stew peas. Red peas soup taste like water with meat in it was so freaking unseasoned like someone was doing a first trial run. The stew peas was not seasoned properly either even the spinners dumplings in it was soft and as if it wasn't fully cooked. Big rassclaut disappointment. Don't play with my culture. This is my first Yelp review and it is just a shame that that I had to have an experience like this. First, let me preface this message by saying how excited and thrilled I was to be trying Henrica's for the very first time, this excitement however, diminished almost instantaneously after I was served so very poorly by members of their staff. This evening around 9:45 PM, I walked into Henrica's and was greeted by an overworked, exhausted young woman. She tried to be chipper while serving me, but the facade lasted all of 30 seconds. She took my order. I ordered a small stew peas (with NO MEAT, if possible, to which she said it was okay) with white rice and a side garden salad along with a slice of chocolate cake. I waited. All was well, I understand how exhausting working in the food industry is, so I didn't mind her service, I know she was just tired. My food comes out now in about 5 minutes. My order is incorrect. There is a LARGE amount of meat on the meal, which I asked for there not to be, but I thought OK, fine. But the next problem is, there is NO GARDEN SALAD. Here comes trouble. I tell her "Hey, there's no salad", she says fine, and asks the chef to prepare one. All is well, despite her remarks about being tired, etc. Moment of truth, my salad comes out, but IT IS SERVED TO BE WRAPPED UP IN ALUMINUM FOIL. I have never in my life been served this way and she serves it to me with a GLIB SMILE ON HER FACE. I take the salad like a trooper and walk out of the establishment. Seconds later I throw the salad in the garbage and eat around the meaty concoction that was to be my meal. In short, if you don't want to read all of this, READ THIS: CUSTOMER SERVICE is SUB-PAR (sub-par being generous) FOOD WILL LIKELY BE INCORRECT IF ORDERED IN PERSON AFTER 9:30PM. The food here is fantastic! I missed getting brown stewed snapper when the previous restaurant at this location closed, however now no problem. The Fish was awesome . The salmon with shrimp combo out of this world steamed in their special sauce. The rice and peas smell of coconut filled the air. I also ordered the jerk wings to go for tomorrow's lunch. When i used to eat meat, my FAVORITE food in the whole entire world was oxtail (Jamaican style). Me and my bf literally searched every Jamaican restaurant throughout four boroughs until we stumbled upon this one just a few blocks away from his house. He didn't think any of the Jamaican restaurants in the area would live up to our standards of what we consider to be the best tasting oxtail, let alone a place called Henricas (sounds Spanish) that serves Jamaican and Chinese food (go figure). Henricas (formerly known as "Nagasaki" according to his mother) has the most tender oxtails in this succulent, rich, brown gravy, with the most perfect cooked rice, peas, and plantains. I've also had the pig tails with kidney bean soup, brown stewed chicken, red snapper, and chicken soup; all delicious. i would return for their seafood, but a fire has caused Henricas to temporarily be closed. Some advice for when they do reopen...if your doing take out (which we did 99% of the time) CALL IN ADVANCE! They make the food fresh, it takes the same amount of time to dine in as it does to take out, so order over the phone. If you do decide to dine in, you get salad and soup with your dinner. i think it becomes a little lounge at night with live performers, and i have seen the bar which is decorated in a nice way, but the restaurant itself was kinda peaceful and quiet with soothing reggae playing. I went for happy hour and I was underwhelmed. I really had high hopes, looking for a good happy hour spot close to home. I had an amaretto sour and the peppered shrimp. I was unaware that the shrimp would be head on so that was a challenge to eat. I suppose it is ordinary for Caribbean folk, but I was unprepared. And while I did do the work to eat it, it wasn't very tasty either. It tasted like it was prepared earlier and warmed up. It was kinda dry. Wow!! The customer service here is beyond horrible. There's literally 6+ people in the kitchen, one cashier taking orders and you will be ignored for at least 20 minutes. Then when they do acknowledge you, it's to ask you to wait another 5 minutes. If you have to catch the train never stop here thinking it will be quick. Then if you survive the long wait and condescending attitudes, your order will be absolutely wrong. Henrica's is one of my favorite restaurants in Queens. I've dined in several times and ordered through Uber Eats. The food is very tasty. I haven't tried all their drinks, but the rum punch is good. I love their sweet & sour wings, jerk wings, goat head soup, oxtail, and escoveitched snapper. So far the service has been good each time I've dined in with friends.
