Henri's is the kind of joint Anthony Bourdain would have loved. The place screams OG Los Angeles. The clientele is a mix of neighborhood locals and people like me, who traveled to Canoga Park from Glendale just because there was the promise of biscuits and gravy at the end of the journey. From the minute I arrived, I felt like I had drifted out of time, and into the old days when one was greeted like an old friend by the gentleman at the wait station. He smiled, laughed, and was jovial. In fact, if I had been having a bad day, which I wasn't, I would have been immediately cheered by his mere presence in my ambit. The wait staff are wonderful. They have worked at the restaurant for a long time. I wanted to wait until their shift was over to buy them a drink and hear the story of how they arrived in Los Angeles, and why they work at Henri's. Oh, the stories they could tell. Bourdain worthy, I tell you. Now, for the food. The food is hearty, well prepared, and delicious. If there were an entry for comfort food in the dictionary, Henri's would have pride of place. I'm told the biscuits are hand made. The gravy sure is. The omelet I had was fluffy, and not overcooked. The spinach and mushrooms inside were perfectly cooked - not over or under done. The home fries were grandmother worthy. Some of my friends had the chicken fried steak. They simply purred as the fist bite hit their mouths. Now, if you like French Toast, try the zucchini variety. I have never tasted French Toast so deliciously prepared. The balance of sweet, cinnamon and zucchini was perfect. Henri's is a place that one hopes will always be there. But, as we Angelinos know, wonderful places like Henri's are only around if they are patronized - frequently. I know I will. I've been going here for many years and the vibe is always homie. The owner and servers always remembers their customers. You walk in and sit wherever you want, I have my booth that I like. Well Henris I've been having a meal here for over 20 years. I used to work down the street when I was younger and would frequent this cute place every morning and lunch! Hands down a family & friends staple for this Valley Girl! I love when I get to sit with Elaine! I've never had bad service with anyone, but she's great! My order is usually the same every time because I'm a creature of habit, so I love when things are consistent & I can always count on that here. They have great breakfast options - which is what I come here for, great coffee & all of the creamers you could need. The booths are comfy & you will run into someone you know if you went to CPHS! I really enjoy breakfast here, the people are super sweet and attentive. The food here is really really delicious! The build an omelette option is super delicious, you can add jalapeños, cheese, spinach, mushrooms and it comes out just right with the scrumptious home fries and not to mention the biscuits and gravy WOW! Henri's is my favorite local diner in the Valley. I've only had one bad experience with mushy hash browns in a dozen times dining here. The lot is small and free parking is limited everyday except Sunday. You can walk a couple of blocks down if needed. Their country fried steaks are of similar quality as a Southern Cracker Barrel. The burgers are 1/3 lbs and done to perfection. Fruit salads are always sweet, and their side of grilled vegetables are the best. I recommend a free side of the spicy fresh salsa instead of Tabasco. The elderly gentleman, the handsome young man, and the tall waitress are very welcoming and competent. The other waitresses that rotate through are usually disappointing and always get my order wrong. read more

I have been coming her 30 years, since I first moved to the Valley. Service and food are both usually pretty good. We had one incident prior to last night when the service was just so bad we strongly considered not coming back. But the food was still good so we decided to give them another chance. But last night was the last straw. I ordered the beef stew with noodles special. Meat was tough and the noodles were overcooked and cold. And the service was horrible. The restaurant almost empty but after bringing our food the server never came back to see if we needed drink refills or anything. She did at one point come by our table but just kept walking without stopping. My husband had to flag her down to ask for extra napkins. We wanted refills of our drinks, we had to stand up and wave our arms to get someone's attention. And I tried to let her know why she did not get a tip, she put her hand up and said ok, ok try to shut me down and basically telling me to stop talking. Again, there were almost no other customers. No excuse for the service we received. The other server told me we need to stop coming there since I am not satisfied with the level of service received. Really? So you're so busy that you can turn away customers. Not from what I see. Told my husband we will never go back and I would rather go out of my way to go to another restaurant than to ever go here again. read more

I recently started working in the area, and decided to try Henri's yesterday - I do love me some diner food, especially on a quiet weekday! The seats were comfortable and plush (classic diner leather booth-style seating), and I really appreciated the air conditioning. I ordered my usual diner fare, an open-faced turkey sandwich (with mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberry sauce) and a black coffee. I know I can order other things, but this is the ultimate in comfort food for me :) I wasn't disappointed - my meal was delicious. The staff were also very kind and attentive, albeit busy. This place is such a gem! I honestly didn't know about this diner/breakfast place until I had to find a place to eat lunch near the car shop that I dropped my car off for repair. Breakfast was delicious and really quality. You wouldn't have expected it since from the outside it doesn't look fancy at all, especially since the neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but I have to say that it exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere is of a 50s diner, with history and memories surrounding the place. Lots of booths to sit it, and an area with a full bar and bar tables. Prices are much better than breakfast chains, and you get a lot for the money too! My mimosa was not only refreshing, it was generous. With floral drapes and window dressing, older booths and some quaint decorations, Henri's is my go to place. There is a certain warmth and charm about the place, that makes you wanna come back. From the welcoming smile of the hostess, who says "anywhere!" When you look confused, as to whether you should wait to be seated or just GO SIT! Service is with a smile, courteous. He'll! You feel at home, as if you are the boss. The smell of eggs and pancakes permeates with a temptations of overpowering need to eat. And eat you will! Great food, perfectly prepared and served with a smile. Menu is typical American fair, but quality is simply superb. Who knows! We might actually meet up!
