Orders are placed through their website where they offer daily specials and deals. Unfortunately, our order was not ready within the quoted ETA of 20-25 minutes. The service also fell short overall. The person who helped us was not friendly or engaging and couldn't provide an estimated wait time, which made the delay more frustrating. We just went to Ranch 99 Market for a bit before coming back. Turmeric Fish Spring Rolls ($7): The fish was so shriveled up that you could barely taste it. I also didn't taste the turmeric marinade. While the rest of the spring roll was fresh, the filling itself was disappointing. Duck Confit Banh Mi ($11): Surprisingly very good. It didn't taste particularly authentic, but it was still delicious. The duck was juicy, and while a side of fries with a banh mi isn't typical, the cottage fries were extremely crispy and addicting. I used to get this delivered from their old location and it was really good. Went to the new restaurant for the first time today and it was still really good! Note that even though the restaurant was called Heo Eatery it is inside Bun Belly, so if you see Bun Belly then you are in the right place! Today I waited 30 minutes for a pick up order after showing up later than the estimated pick up time. I ordered 2 banhmi sandwiches. While I waited I saw over a dozen plates of food come out. Finally after waiting for 20 minutes I asked about the food, they told me 2 more minutes. 10 minutes later, they finally brought out my two sandwiches. Something happened over the last 6 months - came summer of 2023 and the food was good with decent service. Came back in January and it took us 45 minutes from ordering until we got our food which was a pho and ban xeo - had to check with the waiter after 30 minutes and they said the kitchen was backed up despite the restaurant only bring 60% full. Pho was incredibly bland but thankfully salvageable with enough hoisin and sriracha but the Ban Xeo was literally inedible. Never had a dish be so far off of expectations and instead had a burnt (rock hard burnt chips) mixed in with overly oily beef. Super disappointing because I'd been previously where the food and service was both 3.5 - 4 star goid but this was an absolutely disaster of an experience. I usually live for good Bahn Mi, so my friend and called ahead to order from Heo before we got there. Unfortunately, Heo was absorbed as part of Bun Belly? No one told us, making it not as easy to find-we asked people randomly and finally got a lead that it was inside Bun Belly. Even though it was way past 20 minutes, which was when she said it would be ready, half of the order, the chicken spring rolls my friend ordered, still had to be made? We were not encouraged to sit, but we were tired from the drive and looking for it, so I asked if we could sit, she said the restaurant was full, which it wasn't, but asked if we could just sit at the bar to avoid having to soak up waitstaff even though our food wasn't ready. She was very rude and wanted me to pay before even seeing the food. I said no, I'd like to pay after we eat so I can tip appropriately, and I also said I was doing a review. Then she got fake nice, but at least she was much more cool with us. The food sucked too. The pork belly in the buns was gross, like dried cat food, not soft at all, not succulent whatsoever. My tofu Bahn Mi was the most boring and somehow soggy, very disappointing for a Bahn Mi enthusiast. The chicken in the spring rolls looked like greasy cheap thigh meat, but hey some people are into that? I didn't want to even try it, it stank. They are currently located in the bun belly restaurant and offer to go meals only as far as I can tell. This worked out well for me because I really just wanted to takeout a vermicelli bowl. Ordering online was a breeze and only took about 20 min to be ready. I didn't intend to buy the pork belly bun, but am glad i impulsively did so. The pork was perfectly cooked and flavored, and went well with the other fillings. The vermicelli beef bowl was delicious and substantial for a reasonable price. They didn't back off on the flavoring, which I feel like sometimes happens at other locations. My dish came with jalapeños but I was hungry trying to eat before a meeting, so I was diligently removing them and came across a large/long piece of HAIR!! Something happened over the past year - the quality of the food has gotten significantly worse. I bought something off their limited time menu (drunken noodles) and my usual go-to, the tumeric fish rice bowl. I'll start with the rice bowl - the rice itself was still good albeit less seasoned than I had remembered. The roasted vegetables were okay but the pickled vegetables were almost unpickled, like they were just slightly soaked in brine. The fish was the worst part. They used to give filets in this meal, but what I got seemed like fish trimmings. Just lots of bits of the edges of filets it seemed like. The fish itself tasted fine but the the texture wasn't good/appealing. The drunken noodles were just plain awful. No vegetables at all, no flavor. It just seemed like some badly done pan-fried noodles. I was disappointed however, in the quality of the beef. Many of the pieces were more fat than beef and some pieces were all fat. I ended up not eating about a quarter of the meat. The vegetables were also soaked in butter, which I'm also not a fan of, especially as part of an Asian dish. The shop owner was so friendly, eagerly explaining all the items on the menu, cracking jokes while serving food, and practively offering to take our trays away when we finished. This degree of customer service is a rarity itself. The beef pho is a giant bowl of deliciousness. I always like my beef a little rarer to showcase extra freshness and this place delivered. We just dined here and hope to be back again! We ordered the Lemongrass Beef Rice Box, Turmeric Fish Rice Box, and beef pho. Everything was fresh and tasty with the garlic rice and veggies that accompany the rice boxes being the star of the show. I think the fish was better than the beef. Here's what I think they could do to improve (it's almost perfect!) Offer a small size of pho (for kids) or something small/kid size because the plates are large and some kids may not want to share with their family. None of their food is such that the quantity can not be reduced for a smaller portion. Having some scissors to cut the noodles would be great too (like Vietnamese Restaurants usually have) but this is certainly not a deal breaker. What can I say other than I love this place? I ordered from Heo eatery last night and it keeps getting better every time I have it. I typically order the vegetarian pho from here which never disappoints, but this time I decided to branch out and order one of their tofu rice bowls. It was one of the most thoughtful and well crafted rice bowls I have ever had. The thing that I appreciated the most was it's intentionality. Every piece of the the bowl served a unique purpose - nothing is for garnish. The tofu itself is savory and full of umami, the rice is seasoned (I could eat a bowl of the rice by itself) and it was accompanied by charred veggies and an unassuming side salad which consisted of pickled carrots and cabbage, which paired beautifully with the tofu. Also, their spring rolls are some of the best I've ever had. Pro tip: ask for an extra side of the peanut sauce to dip your meats / tofu in. It works great together! Thanks, Heo! I love Vietnamese food and have had a ton of great Vietnamese food here in Austin. This is definitely on my list of top places, but it could use a little work. While I got a lot of pork and the flavor on it was excellent, a lot of it was just fat unfortunately. Also the veggies had some pretty great flavors, more intense than other vermicelli bowls I've had before but I really would have loved more veggies. Heo is nothing outstanding. Not too bad nor good either. The interior is cute with all the Vietnamese food paintings on the wall. The parking is atrocious though. I had their pho. It was okay. I have a feeling that their bowl was big, but the food portions itself weren't very large. I would rather go have Vietnamese food where the older Vietnamese people at Austin actually go to. The parking was horrible. Heo is located at a super busy part of Austin close to Lamar. You cannot get out of the parking spaces at Heo without directly backing out onto Lamar. If cars are coming, which cars always are, then you'll have to rely on the generosity of someone else on the road to let you go. You order at the back and then sit yourself down, there's a condiment bar with sriracha and hoisin and napkins and utensils (they give you spoons if needed when your food comes out) Very quick service (food came out in like 5 min) and the man up front was friendly! The pho comes in a 40oz bowl but there aren't enough noodles to make it really "large" or shareable, I would say it's definitely just one serving. This place is THE BOMB!! The menu is short and simple, but has most of your Vietnamese favorites. The restaurant is clean, casual, and welcoming; while still feeling upscale and trendy. The food is so good and feels about as authentic as you can get. And above all, the quality is great and the prices are even better! One of my favorite lunch spots for sure. The pho and bahn mi's are my favorite. I wish they did more types of pho! Honestly, only critique I can give is the cashier could be a bit friendlier and I wish they had little containers to put the sauces in. I feel bad hogging and entire 2-3 sauces all to myself. Always drove past this place and wanted to try it out - we were not disappointed! There's limited parking spots but we came later in the evening (~8:00pm) so it wasn't too crowded. It is simple. HEO eatery has some freaking amazing Pork Belly Banh Mi. I come to the area frequently to get my Asian groceries done (Hanyang mart, Mom's taste) and also get a hair cut (CNN hair). Thanks to Yelp, it was a delight to discover HEO eatery because now I have my quick lunch spot! The menu is pretty simple. They serve noodles (Bun, Pho), Steam buns (Bao), Sandwich (Banh Mi) and Rice Box. You can also order cold teas and Vietnamese coffee. I highly recommend Pork Belly Banh Mi ($8). It is filled with thinly sliced tender pork belly, cucumber, cilantro, pickled radish, and carrots and drizzled with hoisin sauce. The bread is super soft and toasted to perfection and provides a beautifully satisfying perfect bite feel to it. I personally like asking for the extra fish sauce- my first sandwich did not have enough sauce on it. But you can add sriracha or fish sauce depending on your preference and either way it will taste amazing!!! The sandwich is fairly big, and I can only eat half of it. The sandwich is also served with a complimentary side of cottage fries ($3- if you ordered separately), and I wish I could substitute it with something else and pay extra. I personally liked the sandwich more than the rice box. We ordered lemongrass beef, and although it was not bad, it was not as good as the Banh Mi. Ordered through Lunch Drop and my lunch arrived as ordered - which is always good. I tried the Lemongrass Beef Banh Mi. This Banh Mi is huge!!! There is a lot of flavor and it all compliments each other. The order came with "cottage fries" which is basically tater tots - or tater rounds as they are flatter than rounds. There is also a side sauce to use for the fries which is pleasant. I am pretty sure the dipping sauce is a bit more than spicy mayo. Personally for me, I would have preferred just the sandwich and the option to add the cottage fries. The Banh Mi is plenty of food and I really didn't need anything else. There is nothing wrong with the Cottage Fries - they were good but being delivered - I try to avoid fried foods as they tend to cool down and loose that fry crunch. The friggin' protein is made in some kind of mystical marinade and it's like crispy-ish and sweet-ish but savory and super juicy. I think pork belly is over-rated and it's simply dressed in hoisin sauce. My favorite is the turmeric fish rice box. You can see and taste the aroma of the turmeric fish. The rice is so different. Really good, healthy Vietnamese food on North Lamar. I tried the duck banh mi, the beef banh mi, and the lemongrass beef rice box, and they all hit it out of the park. The rice boxes come with a ton of roasted veggies and pickled veggies and the portion is enough for two meals for $10, which is pretty great. The flavors are right on and the bread for the banh mi is super fresh and has that crackle of a good baguette with a perfectly soft inside. I just haven't had that at any other banh mi restaurant in central Austin. My friends got the cottage fries with their banh mi, which are like tater tots. I love tater tots. I also liked that the frozen yogurt is so cheap ($2!!) and it comes in three portions so you don't have to eat it all at once. I haven't tried the bao yet, but I'll be back very soon. The service was phenomenal! It's obviously a family-run place and they care a lot about serving good food. I don't normally give out five stars, but this place is great. What I'm trying to say is that the current 4.5 average at Heo Eatery is pretty much right on the money. I'm not the king of statistics, but fake it till you make it. Anyways, ignore the shady exterior and walk right in. Leave the road rage from driving on North Lamar at the door and be captivated by how homey this place is. I've visited Heo Eatery twice, and both times I went straight for their rice boxes. I've gotten the tumeric fish rice box and the new pork rib rice box. The fish was flavorful and well cooked, and the pork ribs, although not the most tender I've had, was tasty. I was expecting an good amount of cross cut ribs, but I was pleasantly surprised at large stack of whole ribs balanced on the garlic rice. The garlic rice can be a whole paragraph on its own. Honestly, more restaurants need to witness the elegant combination of strong flavors of garlic soaked in a bed of rice. Get it; you'll regret it if you don't. The vegetables on the left are perfectly roasted. Regardless whether or not you like root vegetables, you'll appreciate these. Cooked all the way through, you can slice it cleanly with your fork. The picked cabbages on the right is a fragrant and refreshing supplement as well. I've also had a couple bites of their fish banh mi. Again, I enjoyed the flavor of the fish, but the crispiness of the bread takes it up another level. Ignore what I said earlier: sometimes, what's on the outside matters too. I've been loving all the modern fusion restaurants that are in trend now on Austin and this was one on my places to try list! We started off with the braised beef and pork belly buns. I wasn't really feeling the braised beef, it was kind of chewy and the moisture really softened the bun which made it soggy. We did however enjoy the pork belly; it was very tasty and seasoned perfectly! If you want something light and semi healthy try the turmeric fish box!! It contained enough food to make me content and satisfied! The fish was seasoned lightly with hints of fish sauce and other seasonings. I did enjoy the sautéed veggies (carrots, squash, brussel sprouts and beers) and the pickled veggies that came along side the fish and rice.
