First off, they didn't offer hoisin sauce or sriracha with the pho, or even ask if we needed utensils. That was the first sign of how this experience was going to turn out. I had my boyfriend pick up the food and he forgot to check for the hoisin sauce. I can't eat pho without it, so I called the store and was told it was offered but that he must not have heard the employee asking. I tried to eat the pho anyway, and it ended up being one of the worst bowls of pho I've ever had. I'm Vietnamese, so I know what good pho should taste like. The broth was extremely bland and watered down, with no aroma or real pho flavor. Without hoisin sauce it was even worse. I tried adding seasoning to make it taste decent but nothing helped. The noodles were also hard and clumped together in one big chunk. I had to microwave them for about three minutes just to get them to separate. In the end, I gave up and threw away our 2 -$18 bowl of pho. The broth tasted worse than instant pho. Very disappointing. I should have known better than to order pho downtown. read more

The color wasn't too light, so I appreciated that they didn't go heavy on the condensed milk. Summer Rolls/Nem Nuong Cuon ($11): These were underwhelming, pretty bland without the peanut sauce, which I thought was just okay as well. OG Banh Mi ($14): Delicious! It was one of our top two banh mi here, along with the lamb one. The bread was nicely toasted, the pâté came through, and all the flavors were on point. Garlic Butter Prawn Bún ($18): The shrimp were perfectly cooked, though the garlic butter flavor wasn't very strong. The vermicelli and veggies were so fresh and tasty together with the nuoc mam that I was able to eat the leftovers without any protein. Curry Ramen ($16): This was our first time trying curry ramen, so we didn't know what to expect. You got to choose your protein, so we went with chashu. I recommend to take the basil that is in your food and to cut it up and put it in your noodle bowl or Ramen bowl because it pairs with the food so well. The spicy chicken bun which is their rice noodle vermicelli was great. taste was very fresh and the sauce on the side also pairs very well. I also got the curry Ramen , but I wish I would've gotten the beef pho instead- not the biggest fan of curry flavor. The chasu was a bit on the flavorless side also. Food was good but service was a bit lacking when I came. Perhaps they're a bit short staffed because I noticed that it was only one server the entire night. There's not a lot of seating, but when the entire place is full, it may be too much for 1 person to handle. I got the grilled pork banh mi which was pretty good! Definitely the most flavorful pork banh mi I've had, but also the most expensive. The jalapeño they put in there still has the seeds so it was quite spicy. I ended up taking out the jalapeño. The curry ramen looked really good - the slices of chasu are thick! I didn't get to try but would do so next time. As mentioned seating inside is limited and small. Most tables can seat 2-4, with one big table that can seat 8 max. They do have some outdoor seating, but generally speaking, it's easier to come here with a smaller party. First off, I'm really glad our Airbnb for the weekend was just a short walk to this spot. I wanna say people from our party came by Saigon on 7th at LEAST once a day the entire weekend, whether it was for coffee, their delicious banh mi, or recovery pho. It's always nice to find little hidden gems in new towns and even more so when it has the "People Love Us on Yelp" sticker on the door. Nice little restaurant, adequate amount of tables for a quick meal (or even to go), music for the vibes, clean bathrooms, excellent service. Every time we get to So7 were like why did we wait so long?! We started going here when it was a truck down the street but have enjoyed having a brick and mortar to have a nice sit down meal. after reading reviews, this place is for bahn mi. living nearby, we thought we could go for pho. they have one type of pho, a brisket/steak type deal. it is $20 for a bowl of disappointment: unappetizing looking meat with bruised and spoiled looking veggies, which when you order to go, everything is just thrown into the bowl (jalapeños with seeds, onions, sprouts, etc). also a ridiculously small amount of noodles. i couldn't even finish my bowl i was so thrown off by the quality of the food and my boyfriend ate both the bowls to feel slightly satiated. we ordered spring rolls, and got shrimp on wooden sticks instead after we opened the bag when we got home. maybe the sandwiches were good, the pho is not. read more

Happy to find Saigon on 7th during a cold period in ATX. I walked in to a friendly staff. I love how simple the menu was as well. I've been here previously when it was a food truck too. The pho ga was yummy! Great chicken, you Could tell it was fresh and cooked well. The OH bahn mi was great as well, but surprising how expensive it was. I grew up going to viet restaurants in Houston where you could get a banh mi for $5, so not sure why they need to be priced so expensive here. Decided to stop in for Pho eventually after spotting it while driving and seeing the reviews which looked very promising, and they were certainly right. I will say that at $18 a bowl this pho is arguably the most expensive I've ever seen, but it can't be denied that you are 100% paying for quality pho of a kind of caliber that you really don't find anywhere else. The noodles are shorter & wider than I've seen of the typical long & stringy uniform noodles that almost everywhere else serves, and you can tell as a result that these are made in-house. The broth is absolutely incredible as well, and not scorching hot when it hits the table as is usually the case. Buyers be warned that instead of the basil, cilantro, beansprouts, jalepenos (!!!), etc. being served on the side they are all inside the Pho when it's served, so be sure to tell them to exclude something while ordering or else. At the price point it's at this definitely won't be a constant haunt to scratch my Pho itch, but if I'm feeling a little extra fancy and want to experience the phoking real deal, I'll be coming here for sure. read more

It was a freezing day in Austin, and I was seriously craving ramen. I'm also a huge curry fanatic, so when I saw curry ramen on the menu at Saigon on 7th, I had to try it. I highly recommend getting it with chashu - it's probably the best ramen chashu I've ever had! The slightly crispy exterior added an amazing texture and flavor to the dish. The sauce they give you for the soup has a bit of spice, but it complements the curry broth so well. Parking was great - they have their own parking lot, which made things super convenient. I've been missing out on this place, but it's a bit out of the way for us. It's a small spot, conveniently located right off busy 7th Street. We started with the octopus skewers, which were incredibly flavorful! The dish includes three skewers marinated in a tangy lime and fish sauce, served with pickled cucumbers. We loved it! We also tried the fish sauce wings. The sauce was absolutely delicious. Since it settles at the bottom of the bowl, the wings stay perfectly crispy, so make sure to dip them in the sauce for the full experience! For our main course, we ordered two banh mis. I went with the OG, which features pork, Vietnamese ham, pâté, and fresh veggies. The bread was flaky and soft--I was impressed! The generous protein component was a very nice surprise, as I'm used to just one paper-thin sliver from other establishments. Tasty lamb and pork banh mis too, although was a tad salty. The best Vietnamese I have had in a long time. I came here two days in a row because I so enjoyed the first day :) Day 1: Got pho bo, summer rolls, fried egg rolls. The summer rolls were crunchy and the peanut sauce had a little kick which I love. Fried egg rolls (there are 5! That's a great value) were flavorful and the fish sauce was refreshing . Presentation was very nice. Service was prompt and friendly. 7th street in that area is a bit run down- the front porch may benefit from a small partition for more private vibes :) Day 2: I got the summer rolls and egg rolls again. That is a glowing review in itself . I also ordered the curry ramen with chashu. I had never had a coconut curry based ramen, it took my mind a second to wrap around it! While chatting with one of the nice fellas at the restaurant, he mentioned that when they were still a food truck, this Thai-Japanese fusion ramen became a winter tradition. I thought that was a lovely and endearing bit of the restaurant's personal history. I recommend breaking the basil up into the ramen as soon as you get your bowl. I especially enjoyed the curry ramen as it tasted like Thai curry but in ramen form so something different. Saigon on 7th has moved into their new brick-and-mortar just down the street from their food truck/trailer location. Their new digs are comfy, casual, and very inviting. I came with friends and we shared across their menu, so everyone could get a taste. Chicken Banh Mi was outstanding...perfectly flaky roll that packed a ton of flavor. Lamb Bun (noodle bowl) was incredible...the earthy/gamey flavors of the lamb blending with the sweet/vinegary flavors of the pickled veggies and the crunch of the lettuce. So good! And then the was the curry ramen, a seasonal special with chicken, basil, and a perfectly cooked custard egg. Normally I'm a ramen purist, but the bowl was so comforting and the SE Asian flavors were like a dynamic symphony, harmonizing together to create a wonderful experience. Both the Spring rolls and the Summer rolls were outstanding. The peanut sauce that came with them is made in house. Very delicious and wasn't overly sweet. Last note, if you want to kick the whole experience up to 11...they make their own fermented sambal (chili garlic sauce), that's so wonderfully vibrant and garlicky, with just the right kick of heat.
