Wow, this place is amazing!! We came here for dinner a couple nights ago and we are so glad we did. We got here around 6:45 pm on a friday night and it was pretty much packed. It's a pretty small restaurant, but there are a lot of tables. You can either wait and be seated or if you find any free spots, you can sit down and they will come and give you a menu. I ordered their bum bo hue $16 and it was delicious. The broth was to die for. It was super flavorful and the spice and salt levels were just right. Not too salty, not too spicy. I've tried tons of bum bo hues in CA and dallas, and I would have to say Tan My is in my top 3, which says a lot! My husband ordered their vermicelli with charcoal broiled beef rice noodle bowl $15 and he says it tastes better than Pho Bac in richardson; iykyk. Overall, 10000% recommend. They are located in a really small plaza with a really small parking lot so I would definitely recommend carpooling or getting there early. Service here was great and it was nice that the young guy would check in on us. the portions here are huge, and the service is friendly and welcoming. our favorite dish by far was the stir fried flat noodles (#55). it was so flavorful and def something id get again! the pho, however, was just okay. i wish the broth had a bit more depth and richness, and the beef was unfortunately pretty tough and bland. the grilled chicken over rice also wasnt quite what i expected. it didnt taste very authentic and was more like teriyaki chicken from a fast food restaurant. overall im glad i gave it a try but there is better viet food in austin read more

This unassuming place is one of the best authentic Vietnamese restaurants that I have ever encountered. It is located in a stip center with a laundromat for goodness' sake!!! The parking lot was full even when we drove by at random times in the afternoon. Service? Absolutely the most accomodating and down to earth service and there were locals coming in and out and the owners and other staff always spoke to them and visited. Even asked them if they wanted their normal seating!!!! I order the Beef Pho and wowowowowowwwww! I went here for my lunch one day with my good friend, and I'm so glad that she introduced me to this place because I don't think I would've found it by myself. It was very busy for lunchtime, but we were still able to grab a seat and we were taken care of immediately. I've been wanting to try Tan My for so long cause I always hear about how it's the best Pho in Austin and after finally getting to eat there, I can definitively say that that claim is true. This really hit the spot and satisfied my pho craving after the winter storm. I'm so glad they were open because this meal saved my life. I'm a changed person. The vibe is very classic pho spot and took me back to my favorite pho restaurant at home. The workers were also very sweet and attentive and we got our food super quick. Like really quick. I got their large number 1 pho and the large is a very generous portion. The bowl was as big as my head. But the meat cuts were so soft and chewy and the broth tasted amazing. Prepare to wait a bit on the weekends, as they are usually full to the brim especially in the morning. Their pho menu is interesting as each ascending number takes away a type of meat, which allows for more personalization than some places. The no 1 is my go to! I've been getting pho to-go from Tan My for years, but I finally decided to pop in for the full dining experience. I mainly get pho here, and it's always consistently good. Everything well cooked, the broth always flavorful. This is family-owned spot, and it has that family feel to it. The place seems to be always packed during lunchtime, so expect it to be busy, but the service is great here as expected and you can tell they have their fair share of regulars. I'm not sure if it's the best pho in Austin, but it's definitely up there and always pretty consistent! I'd heard so much about this place, and it's in a neighborhood with a high bar for quality Asian food. It was also very busy, and we were lucky to get the last table right away. The service was great. The decor is no nonsense, which is fine for an authentic experience. I will say it's refreshing to see Vietnamese iced coffee done the right way. But I always use bun as a measure of a Vietnamese place and it was a disappointment. Way too many vermicelli noodles, way too little vegetables -- no julienned cucumber, no shredded carrot, and a smidge of lettuce -- and the vermicelli was not the correct rice noodle. And the spring rolls were also too bland and the peanut sauce not peanuty enough. I'm still looking for a really good place. read more

This is comfort food in so many ways. Tam My is a small family run restaurant that takes care of the customers. On a cold or rainy day you simply can't beat the pho. You have all the usual protein options and it is served with the customary basil, bean sprouts and fresh jalapeños. A small will satisfy most appetites but a large size is available for the hearty eaters. It is owned by a lovely, gracious couple who are almost always present. They are ably assisted by their son and daughter. The rest of the staff have been a part of the team for years, so they obviously treat them like part of the family. Tân My is in the top 5 best restaurants that Austin has to offer. Their food is always outstanding, never a miss. I first learned about this restaurant from a Lyft driver who was sharing his favorite Vietnamese food in Austin and Round Rock, and he said Tân My was the best and most authentic. He was not wrong! I have never dined in, so I always order to-go via phone. It is the place my partner and I order takeout the most from because the food is always delicious with ample portions that means two meals (dinner plus dinner or lunch the next day). There are multiple comfortable tables inside for those who prefer to dine-in. My favorites are the 55C crispy noodles (I get mine with just shrimp but it comes with chicken and beef for meat-eaters), 47 shrimp vermicelli with lemongrass, and 29 egg noodle soup with shrimp. The crispy noodles are thick and fried together in truly the most delicious sauce ever with fresh vegetables. My family has also loved their chicken fried rice and their rice noodle soup with chicken. Amy and David are wonderful siblings who often answer the phones and check you out, and the full family and all the staff are welcoming and make delicious food. They genuinely make you feel at home in the restaurant, and their food is a nurturing gift. They are currently closed on Sundays, so just plan ahead for your lunch or dinner. Had the worst experience; we are regulars, and my wife decided to try something new, it was to salty for her so we talked to the staff and they seemed afraid to tell the owner, but they did the OWNER brought the plate back and said; "look the others ordered that same plate and they are enjoying it", he also said "No other place will ever allow you to return a plate after ordering" i told him yes any other place would be generous enough to fix the problem for us he then said "No" and laughed.
