My car rental went fine. I used my AAA discount to get a bit of a price break. I had to rent the car for two weeks because my car was not in working order, and I was able to reserve a car the same day (in fact, just an hour or two before going to pick it up) and it was fairly quick when I got there to pick it up. They have a sales arm maybe? I'm not sure; there are two driveways for Hertz. I was coming from the south along Mannheim so I pulled into the one that I saw, since there was big Hertz signage and whatnot there. But when I went in the guy told me to go to the next driveway, as that was the car rental section. (To be clear, this first stop was also part of Hertz, just not where one goes to pick up a rental.) Anyway, this whole thing was not very clear at all (especially since, at the first place I stopped, there was a big sign that said car rental right outside the door). I had to return it a day early and there was no discount. Possibly because I had rented it as a week-long rental and extended it for the same period. Would be nice if they'd given me something back but oh well. They charge something like $15 per day if you get their toll road coverage, so either make sure you avoid toll roads or sign up for the Pay by Plate option using the Illinois Tollway app. read more

Why did Hertz move all of its Teslas to the Des Plaines location from the O'Hare Airport? Ugh, it's very annoying. If you want to rent a Tesla from Hertz now after a flight, you have to find your own way 15 minutes (aka take an Uber [blk] as there is no shuttle, and go through the process in person. When it was at O'Hare it was so nice...Find your name on the screen, get in your car and go if you prepay---as I always do. Welps, when I went to retrieve my prepaid reservation, they asked for the card I used to make the reservation. I left most cards back in LA so didn't have it on me and they refused to help me further. It was bizzare on a prepaid reservation. I asked if they could just cancel it then and rebook as I can pay with some card I have on me instead. Nope. And it was weird because the guy working gave zero solutions. So...I sat on the chair in front of him and called Hertz support. They changed the credit card on the reservation to one I had with me in my possession so...I was then able to get my car. The initial guy working just looked at me blankly most of the time and was so out of it. Thankfully a second person came and was able to assist me after I hung up with Hertz support. Very strange process. Everything with my rental was fine. The car needed some serious repairs --- I've never been in a squeeky Tesla before! But it ran great for my few weeks so it got the job done. I don't know what a good rental price is but I was fine with the price I paid. I think I had the car 16 days and paid just under $500 so seemed fine to me. When I returned the car, same blank stare guy was working. He blankly stared at me as I walked in. He's terrible. Again, thankfully, another person was working and was so fast, friendly and helpful. So...Hertz has good deals but the Tesla situation makes no sense for travellers. I won't be renting from Hertz again if Teslas aren't at O'Hare. Gave me a car with a faulty gas tank. The tank was almost empty when I received it. When I tried to stop at a gas station, the tank was stuck closed. I pulled the lever, played with anything that could possibly help to open the car, but to no avail. There is damage all along the gas tank, showing that other drivers before me have had to forcibly open the gas tank with something metal. That was bad enough, but what was worse was the fact that Hertz is basically impossible to get in touch with and they will not help you once you're stuck. They claim you need to pay them to come retrieve their faulty vehicles. State Farm, who was the company that set up the rental, was just as unhelpful with resolving this issue. My local agent did everything he could, but State Farm claims department just stood by the lies told by Hertz Rentals, claiming the car was in perfect working order and it was my responsibility to get their broken down car back to them. These shenanigans interfered with my work and an interview I had scheduled. At this point, they owe me for lost wages and lost work opportunities. It's disgusting that this is allowed. Someone could be hurt or killed getting into these death trap vehicles. She was very fast on her job even there were 30-40 people each hour. She does uber job, she does rental job and she does mechanic job, check car tire pressure, drive car if any problem and then give it to customer. She teach me a lot about the car when i rented and she is manager. Sorry i forgot to ask their name but She got a good co-worker lady with glasses and good black guy as co worker who has a long hair. They help driver even after 5:00 pm, EVEN THEY DONT GET PAID FOR. Once they were in office till 6:30pm till last driver job done and driver got the car and left. Convenient location from the airport. Staff did the right thing. We went to the wrong entrance, which delayed our arrival to a few minutes after closing time. The staff was walking out when they saw me. They asked me if I had a reservation. I said yes, and they informed me they were closed. But one of the agents went back in and helped me out. These days, people don't often do that. I'm grateful, as I have no idea what we would have done otherwise. The car itself was fine. I worked with Dave and purchased a hertz car and absolutely love it. I was able to test drive whichever one I wanted and was shown everything. It was such a pleasant experience. After signing the papers I noticed the right headlight was wobbly bc a mounting piece was chipped and that the trunk cover was dented and used roughly and didn't have stings attached to the hood, after addressing these issues this said no problem! WOSRT PLACE EVER TO RENT A CAR!! It came extremely dirty, on the inside there were empty soda cans on the ground and smelled like B.O. The outside was even dirtier and even had paint spilled on it all over. The car came with and empty gas tank and broke down twice in two weeks. I rented it they Lyft and Hertz, Lyft told He at around 9pm on Friday they told me that I have to deal with Hertz and they are open Mon-Fri 9-5pm. So I had to wait all weekend for Hertz to tell me that under my agreement with Hertz and Lyft that I personally have to take it to a auto shop to get it fixed. I literally paid to rent a car to earn money and had to waste my time, effort and ability to earn to fix their car. And the mechanic said that the problem was the oil.. it was the " dirtiest oil he had seen in seven years" and a week later the check engine comes on again.. first they needed to replace the brakes and it took "fleet" (hertz/Lyft) to approve the repair. I lost 24hr a of the rental time and the earning ability because they did not approve the repair! And at 1pm Firestone already knew the problem and contacted them to get the approval. It's not like they did this at the end of they day. And now the check engine comes on again.. they said it needs a new "canister" which is on back order and won't be there for a few weeks. But they said I could drive on it. And for the people that don't know, if you try to contact Lyft as a driver there is no phone number or any possibility to get customer service besides for chatting with an automated bot. The only phone numbers you have to call as a driver is to report an accident or if you're getting robbed. But if you as a driver offend a riders Service animal list has a designated Hotline just for that Shhh When I originally rented the car I was actually thinking of purchasing a vehicle from that location but they obviously do not take care of their cars at all so that is definitely off the table read more

I have used Hertz several times over the past 3 months (I travel to visit my son in college often) The customer service is excellent! The 2 lovely ladies at the front counter are very friendly, they always greet me as if we've known each other for a lifetime and they make the entire rental process as smooth as possible. Worst customer service. I called and made a reservation through their national hotline. I currently have a Interim driver's license while my driver's license is on its way in the mail. It's a legal piece of paper issued by the DMV stating that you are able to drive. I made sure to let them know while I was reserving that this was the case and I also brought two forms of identification. Fast forward to three days later when I arrive in Chicago. I head over to the enterprise ready to get my car and then the counter clerk who seems to be void of all feeling looks at me in a weird way as I show her the paper. She smiles and goes to her managers office and comes back with a smug "sorry we can't accept this". First of all, I don't know who the fuck fucked you over in life so bad that you get joy in bringing people down but grow up. Second, this is a LEGAL DOCUMENT, IT IS THE EXACT SAME AS A REAL LICENSE. Right after the incident, I raised hell with the national hotline who completely agreed with me and contacted the branch immediately. They gave them the same BS answer about how they can't accept it without a valid reason, so now corporate will be sending an area regional manager to inspect the place. Terrible, Terrible, Terrible service. I am an Uber driver. I reserved a vehicle Thursday night to pickup the next day. Friday someone left me a message that there were no vehicles left. I called back the number but there was no answer and could not leave a message because the voicemail was not set up. Found it hard to believe so I contacted Uber directly Late afternoon. They made the appointment and gave me a reservation number. Shortly got a call from Hertz Agent saying they had no cars. He made no effort to accommodate me with a vehicle. Said I had to call back another day and try my luck. Then told me to call Broadview to see if they had any cars. Broadview is an hour from me, so again, I contacted Uber to make the reservation. After reservation was confirmed through Uber, I called Hertz Broadview 10-Times to make sure the car was in fact available - nobody picked up the phone. What a run around. In planning my trip to Chicago I looked at fees for renting a car from Hertz at ORD. That came to over $600! So I looked for Hertz in the area of ORD and found this location which is only 3 miles from the airport and the rental fee was only $280. So I took a $15 Uber from the airport to Des Plaines and got my rental from here, super easy! The employees were great and returning the car on a Sunday (when the office is closed) was super easy. Just leave the car in the parking lot and drop the keys in the lock box. No problem to get an Uber from there to the airport at all. The only drawback is that there isn't a Gold line at the counter, but since I was the only customer that morning it didn't really matter. I highly recommend this place as a travel secret to saving $$ on a Hertz rental! read more

I waited over an hour to rent a car because first, there was no one at the desk (for 15 min) and then the ONE guy had to find a car, clean the car, pull the car around, do all the paperwork. Does anyone else work there? There were 3-4 people walking around from the car sales side who completely ignored the 3 people waiting in line for rentals. Then, when I got the car it was FILLED with dog hair. Disgusting! If I hadn't waited so long I would have turned it back in, but I was desperate. Be forewarned, this is not a well run shop. I'm inclined to rent from the airport or another nearby Hertz location next time... I've rented from this location near O'Hare at least 6 times over the last 4 years because there are significant savings over the location at the airport. I was generally pleased with this decision up until this summer. I am a Hertz Gold member, and when I rented in May I had to wait over 30 minutes to get my car. They were clearly understaffed, but it wasn't crowded, there was just one other customer in the shop when I arrived. My reserved car just wasn't ready, and I was there 2 hours after they opened, so they had plenty of time to be prepared. And when they gave me the car, the Tire Pressure Monitor was lit up... another delay to check and reset. This week, I had an Intermediate Car reserved, and the agent on duty (the only employee I heard or saw that day, and the same guy I dealt with in May) told me that all they had was a compact car available. It looked like they had other cars, but he said all they had was a Hyundai Accent. I'm a Hertz Gold member, shouldn't they upgrade me, not take me down a class? I negotiated a $4 discount (came out to 3% for the rental), as it was the best the smiling agent could do. Then there was a 10 minute delay while they get the car rrady. Then I get the car: no bluetooth, no cruise control, and no quick pass for the toll roads, no bells or whistles whatsoever. This was an Enterprise experience at a Hertz price. read more

Visiting Chicago, we wavered between renting from the airport, or risking renting from this Hertz, off airport (about 2 or 3 miles away) in Des Plaines. The reviews I read here were horrible so I was ready to take the safe route and pay an extra $300 to rent at the airport. At the last minute, I decided to take the risk...and I'm so happy with that decision. It's not a typical rental car place, so don't expect 24hour service. We knew what to expect and this rental experience was much easier than the airport, much faster (no line!), and the people working there were FABULOUS! BE FORWARNED, this was by far, the worst experience I have ever had. While I had no problems with the car, customer service agents have a lot to be desired. When I picked up by vehicle on 8/14/17 @ approx. 5:15pm in Des Plaines, there was a couple who was on the phone over a disagreement with their reservations. It was obvious they were not happy about something. As I approached the counter, the agent greeted by saying, "yes" to me. I told her that I am here for a rental due to my car being repaired. While she was processing my paperwork, she kept on rolling her eyes and smacking her lips over the couple that was on the phone regarding their reservation. She at one point told her co-worker quietly, "these people are just being stupid." I thought to myself that was really unprofessional and uncalled for. Not to mention, a very poor representation of the Hertz Corporation. As we continued to do my paperwork, this agent began talking to herself and shaking her head. She was saying that she cannot wait until 6:00pm when she can "get out of here." Again, this was said in front of me, as a consumer. As we finished at the counter at approx. 5:30pm, I waited for them to bring the rental car around to the front of the store. This agent, who processed my rental paperwork, walked past me by the front door and said under her breath, "I should just lock the doors at now so that no more crazies come in." Seriously??? At this point I was really offended. I asked for Manager and was told there was not on site. I said thank and left Hertz with my rental. On 8/16/17, when I returned the vehicle, I had the similar experience with another agent. I had called Hertz from my office at approx. 3:30pm to let them know that I will be returning the rental car due to my personal vehicle ready for pick up. I, also, asked if there is shuttle or a courtesy ride, so I can go get my vehicle at the repair shop in Des Plaines. I was told that they would call a Lyft for me. I told them "thank you." What came out of his mouth was totally inappropriate. He told me that I had to be there by 6:00pm because he had to get home and eat dinner with his family and then asked my to hold. I was on placed on hold for just under six minutes and I hung up and called back. Again, I explained myself and told them that I will be there by 5:00pm. Upon my arrival at 4:45pm, I waited in line and the agent male agent greeted my by saying, "what." I explained to him that I am returning the rental car & that I would need a ride to pick up my personal vehicle. I was told no problem, "we'll call Lyft for you." While I was at the counter returning the keys, this agent and another agent began criticizing other co-workers by stating that, "she needs to step up and do some work around here" or "I would fire her." I thought to myself, this is not a good work environment and that it is a shame that customers have to hear how miserable it must be work there. Anyhow, one of the agents called Lyft and I was expecting to be picked up in a few moments. Well, a few minutes turned into 25 minutes. I walked back into the building asked a female agent if they can please call Lyft again as the Lyft driver did not show up. She told me that she is in car sales and does not work in rental and walked away. I waited for an agent at the counter because it began raining. Lyft was called again. The other agent asked what was he doing and the agent who was calling for me told the other agent that Lyft did not arrive yet. Then the agent who asked the question stated, "Maybe he should have been outside waiting for Lyft." I left the building in disgust and waited for my Lyft driver to pick me up. While I was waiting, I saw another employee walking out of the building and asked him if I can speak with a Manager or Supervisor? Without stopping, he continued walking past me stating, "he is not here." Given my experience, I will not be using or recommending Hertz. The lack of professionalism and customer service shown has a lot to be desired. No only will I not be using Hertz, I will be informing my insurance company of their poor service!!! read more

The line is long and the customer service is horrible. They tried to charge us $67 more than what we had agreed to with Expedia. When we called Expedia, the manager at the Hertz location ignored two calls from Expedia and then hung-up on Expedia after finally answering the call. There was another couple at the counter who were also disputing additional charges. They seemed to come to an agreement with Hertz because they had booked through the Hertz site. The excuse we kept hearing was "we can't guarantee a 3rd party providers pricing." In the end Expedia helped solve the problem, not Hertz. read more
