I visited ChoSun Hwaro Korean Bbq on a Sunday for lunch. It wasn't too busy, so I think one could have easily walked in and gotten a table. We ordered lots of appetizers to start including the dumplings and the assorted jeon. Both were great and were generously sized portions suited for our table of nine. For meats, we went with two set menus - one Chosun Hwaro Party Platter and one Chosun Hwaro Pork combo. Overall, the meats were good quality. I never really knew what cut I was eating and would often ask the server to identify the cuts. All grilled meats were cooked well and tasty though! This was my first time here, so I'm not sure if this is the norm, but I felt like we repeatedly had to ask for sauces, side dishes, etc. I'm not sure if meats normally aren't served with sauce, here, but most Korean bbq places I've been to would serve them without us having to ask. I could easily write a 10 page essay on Chosun Hwaro being the best Korean BBQ with high-quality meats, friendliest service, and a lively atmosphere! Unlike other KBBQ spots, it's not AYCE. Instead, you order combos or a la carte meats, which highlights the quality of what you're getting! For our meal, we ordered a feast of the Chosun Hwaro Combo (Medium), Baekdusan bulgogi, japchae, and bibim naengmyun. The meat quality here is extremely PREMIUM and every bite was super juicy, tender, and packed with flavor! I cannot stop thinking about the Baekdusan bulgogi because it was truly a savory MEAT MOUNTAIN. Our kind server gave us a pro tip to mix the sauce with rice. That completely changed the dish for me! The sauce soaking into the rice made it unbelievably rich and satisfying. I loved that the combos come with steamed egg and soybean paste stew, which were comforting sides alongside all the grilled meat and ban chan (kimchi, radish, etc) already at the table. As for my noodle dishes, I usually never order japchae, but I did and this one ended up being the best japchae of my life. It was PACKED with so many flavorful meat and vegetable toppings. The service was attentive, and our server made us feel very comfortable. She was kind and welcoming throughout the meal. The meats were good, with texture and flavor as expected. I also enjoyed the cold noodles and appreciated that they accommodated our request to have the chili sauce on the side. The service here is stellar, and both the wait staff and the owner were so pleasant to talk to. I came here for dinner one evening and we got their ChoSun combo package with four different meats for 4 people, as well as their bibim naengmyeon, corn cheese, beef tartare, and dolsot bibimbap. Honestly a pretty big letdown. I was excited to see this being built up and all the hype but the prices were high, the food was mid, and the service was just slow. First the food, we got one of the combos so the additional marinated kalbi, extra egg soup, deonjang jigae, and seafoood pancake. Everything including the pan Chan side dishes were pretty bland tasting. The dipping sauce was also mid. It cost more than all you can eat but the quality was not great. The meat felt too tender, powdery, and honestly old. I heart the nengmyung was good but I didn't get it. The best thing was the seafood pancake. It was mostly crab sticks but it was extra crispy. I didn't like how they gave very very small glasses for the barley (or barely hah) tea and I would keep having to ask for refills but then they would forget who had tea. Maybe use a different cup? We had Kelly for our server and she was so sweet and attentive. Don't trust the bad reviews!! As an experienced, serial kbbq eater this place is GREAT. Meat quality was amazing and while there is only default house sauce it comes with you can ask for seasame oil on the side and put salt and pepper in it as another sauce which I prefer a bit more for meats. They also have ssamjang sauce for eating pork but you need to ask for it. We got the medium chosun combo and for 4 people we did have to add an extra meat on top. The brisket?? GAS. The food was great, good quality meat and I enjoyed the banchan (maybe too much? We were cut off after requesting refills thrice --portions were pretty small each time though). However the service was subpar. Aside from being told we couldn't get anymore refills, every time we asked our server a question or made a request he would just nervously laugh. In addition, after nervously laughing he wouldn't answer. My mom asked if there were any additional sauces and he awkwardly laughed, cooked the meat, but didn't answer. She also asked if we could have a refill of the green onions (for the first time) and he nervously laughed, said nothing and never brought more out so we assume that meant no. Then 10 minutes later the table next to us got a refill of the green onions. So, the service killed the night for us but the food was really good. Stopped in for a holiday dinner with friends with absolutely no context and was very pleased with the great service and delicious food we received. My husband doesn't like the marinated meats that he associates with k-bbq. I convinced him to try this place with the promise to not get marinated meats. The accompaniments just kept coming once we placed our order. What I really appreciate is the big bottle of water for the table. You fill up your cup as needed, no waiting on someone to stop by. The waiter who prepared our food was nice, explained what he was doing, offered refills of any of the sides, and was just super pleasant all around. Tried out this fairly new KBBQ spot on a stormy night after craving some comfort food--and it absolutely hit the spot! This is their second location (the first is in Ellicott City), and the owner brought the concept over from Korea, which shows in the quality and authenticity. We ordered the combo with brisket, Emperor's Galbi, and Empress's Galbi--everything was flavorful and well-prepared. The set came with dwenjang jjigae and the fluffiest gyeran jjim I've ever had--adding cheese took it to the next level! Based on their website/advertisement, they were selling it as a premium KBBQ spot with authentic KBBQ with a luxury dining experience. I expected it to be on par with the other upscale KBBQ spots in the area, but it fell short. First time we sat at the bar, and the second time at a table. AMBIANCE: I expected the vibes to be similar to Honest/Ingle/Woo, but it was more similar to SO/Kogiya/Meokja. The music is loud and the typical K-pop that is common in regular KBBQ places. They have a bar area, which was more like a sports bar, but I did like that they have grills at the bar that you can eat at, if you don't want to wait for a table. SERVICE: ~Each time we come here, the service has been a little strange. When you get seated, they seem to just stand right in front of you and stare at you until you are ready to order. My friends and I got the beef tongue, jowl, and the bulgogi tower. The bulgogi tower was a neat concept where you dip the sauce into the marinade! The sauce also has some clear noodles. Enjoyed the food very much. Both the meat and sides were very flavorful and delicious and staff were lovely. But one issue may make me never go back. Tonight they had 3 TVs playing World Cup shows, and the 4th TV was showing Fox News and some sort of Trump press conference that went on forever. With all the Asian and Hispanic employees and customers in this restaurant, why in the world would this restaurant think it's appropriate to air Fox News/Trump while people are trying to enjoy their dinner? We enjoyed all the dishes. Baekdusan bulgogi was my favorite dish. Consistency of the meals were different to me. First time I loved the baekdusan bulgogi and the broth was so flavorful. With a side of rice. It was great. 2nd time it was goodbbut broth was not hitting the same as the first time. Marinated galbi was really chewy my first time. But it was hard to bite through the pieces. 2nd time not so hard to chew, so that was much better. It's a decent place to try. Next time I would definitely try something else to give a better review. Been meaning to come here for about a year and I finally got to come here on a weekday for early dinner around 3:30 pm with my wife. They are open throughout the day from 11 am through 10 or 11 pm depending on the day of the week. There is also a location in Ellicot city, MD. We got the combo meal for 2-3 people. The cost was like $109 base for it. It came with three meats (brisket, empress and emperor galbi). Egg and soup included. Can't remember if they charge for rice or not. Naengmyeon is $12 which is a good price. It was definitely lacking some sweetness and tanginess. The broth must have also been pretty salty bc I had to drink so much water later in the day. The grill was in fantastic condition. The meats sizzled and cooked perfectly, and the smoke was sucked into the smoke vent in the middle. I appreciated not smelling like grilled meat when I left. The portions were disappointingly small. Although I felt like I ate a meal, I did not feel full. The side dishes and dipping sauce were also good with refills on them. Ambiance in here is pretty much as you would expect from a Korean restaurant. K-pop music blasting, big TV monitors playing Music videos, sports near the bar area. Maybe bring a layer during summer bc the A/C is on full blast. Service was great besides just standing and being there throughout the whole meal. I think a bit of privacy would have been nice. The short ribs were fresh, the soo yook (boiled pork) was abundant, flavorful, and came with plenty of garlic and pickled radish. The mool nengmyun (cold beef broth noodle with sliced beef, cucumber, and pears) was a delightful way to wash down all the grease and finish off the night. The banchan were great even the service of the cold white kimchi soup midway during the meal. The salad was refilled frequently and the pickled radish was perfect to offset the meats. ChoSun is a great addition to the kbbq scene in NoVA! I personally do not enjoy AYCE, so ChoSun was a perfect new place to try out! Our group of 4 got the combo set for 2-3 people and we also decided to add the bossam as well! I don't remember which meats were which but our group def agreeed that all the meats were flavorful and cooked well! We also all enjoyed the steamed egg, which came out sooo fluffy!!?? The bossam set came with a lot of porkbelly and sides to compliment the wrap! One thing to note is that the parking is sparse, we ended up parking quite far away and the restaurant itself was not too busy.
