I was traveling when I heard this noise in my vehicle. I had Charlie take a "listensee" at short notice w/o charge (he even brought out an automotive diagnostic stethoscope). He told me it was nothing that was likely to break down before I was done with my traveling. Many a shifty-shafty mechanic would've taken advantage of my situation. This was a major relief as I had to be somewhere at a certain time. No wonder why this business has been around in Kennewick (in its original old Timey building too) since 1950! Got my bronco back from an oil change, a repair to the window washer nozzle, wiper blades and a door card repair for being loose. Once I got the truck back the check engine light was on and it wouldnt idle. I opened the hood and an electrical connector and vacume line were disconnected. Once I plugged them back in it was fine. the shop foreman lost it when I sent a bad review to their shop. Dont know whats going on there anymore i was, was a customer of 30 years with hi land garage, now they do stuff like this. Dont know what happened. read more

Me and my husband were looking for a good mechanic but had no clue where to go it's hard to trust people with your car especially a car from the 80's so we decided to take it to Hi-Land Garage in Kennewick Washington because I saw all the good reviews well I'll never go by reviews ever again who ever worked on our 80's crown Victoria did a horrible job they were suppose to fix our locks and we are still having trouble with them, then the main reason we went was to get our heater fixed they gave back the car without even making sure it worked so we had to go back then once we picked up the car my husband pop open the hood because they did an oil change and he noticed one of his caps were left on top of his engine. I'm just confused as to why this business has such good reviews if we had so many problems. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

My partner was a heavy diesel mechanic when they were in the Army, and then worked on the civilian side as a heavy diesel mechanic for a few more years before becoming disabled. I'd heard horror stories about mechanics from them. So when our old beater was having serious issues (wouldn't accelerate, was overheating quickly, dumping fluid -- not pretty) I was really anxious about trying to handle it by myself. Thankfully my anxiety was misplaced. From the beginning I was treated like a human instead of a "stupid woman who we can milk money out of because she doesn't know any better." They were communicative and very nice the whole time. When the next day my car started dumping fluid again I took it back in and they got it on its wheels again. Just a hose that wasn't tightened down all the way. On another occasion it was overheating again, I was afraid it was the same problem -- nope. I pulled it up, didn't even need an appointment, just no coolant. I was embarrassed but they were again very kind. I will never, ever, take my car anywhere else. read more

My car suffered damage to the undercarriage outside of Spokane on a Philadelphia to Portland trip to visit family. I stopped because I wanted to make sure the car was safe to continue. The owner came out of his office, crawled part way under the car, bent a piece of a thin sheet metal pan up, and told me he saw no damage that would keep me from getting to my final destination. read more

This place used to be my go-to. I've taken all my cars there for everything I needed on them I couldn't do myself. I've never spoken with the lady who just called me to provide me an estimate. I told them what exactly was wrong and what I needed. She tried to give me the run around like I didn't know anything about my car. When I corrected her, she got super rude and quoted me a ridiculous price for popping out some rivets and putting in new ones ($200). I even told her I had all the parts, just didn't have the tool to put the new rivets in. It didn't even cost that much for them to install a new water pump in my old car, which takes 10x longer. Well done, new front desk lady. You just lost your company a very dedicated customer who used to refer you guys to all her friends for their car troubles. Update: Kurt (my bad it this spelling is off) gave me a call to apologize for the way I was treated. While I did take my car in to get it fixed at another shop, I do appreciate the gesture. It's likely I will return to the location to get work done in the future, because these guys actually know what they're doing. I just wish the front desk lady would listen to customers, and I hope this feedback helps fix that. read more

I can't Thanks the staff at Hi-land Garage enough! I was driving thru town last week. My Children and I were in a minor accident. My car was running with damage to the front end. We were in the middle of our trip from Northern Washington to the Bay Area. I called Hi-Land garage to see if they could fit me in to just check over my vehicle and make sure it was safe to finish my trip. They told me to come right over and saw me right away. They checked everything, zip tied my bumper to make sure nothing got in the way while driving and got me back on the road. I can't Thank them enough for making my accident a little better by being so kind and understanding. My boys will forever remember their kindness by helping their mom and getting us back on the road. I have been using HiLand Garage for years. I have two aging cars (made in the 90's, 170k mi and 230k mi respectively). My work is near there and it is nice to either get a ride or just walk to work. These are good guys. The owner, Carl, is a known staple of the community since forever. People really know him. I can call him up, tell him what my car is doing, and he is cool with giving a little advice to I can try to fix it myself. There were a couple of repairs that, although partially my fault, should not have been done or could have been done cheaper with a little knowledge on both our parts. Who knew ignition wires were the same thing as spark plug wires? I recently had spark plug wires put on not too long ago, so it didn't need to be done. Another time he let me know (honestly, by the way) that he needed to get to a "soft plug" in the engine and that he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to get there easily or start cutting metal. Well, he started cutting metal and it ran me an extra $300 beyond the normal repair. A phone call clarifying this would have been nice...but again, I take some responsibility because I could have said, "don't do anything until I have a full understanding of the price." Those two complaints aside, I have had MANY, MANY repairs done by them (timing belt, valve cover gaskets, replaced oil pan, etc.) and they just do a good job at an honest price. Good people. I took the car there and they fixed my car for $87.00!!! and they waived the inspection fee , a discount of $50bucks! They said it was because I was a new customer! WOW!! I've had several good experiences with this garage. I had work done three times in the past with no issues and fair pricing. Most recently, I took my car in because the transmission wouldn't go into gear. Their diagnosis was that it needed a new transmission. I opted to scrap the car because the transmission cost more than the car is worth. The could have charged me $50 for the labor to diagnose the problem, but after a face-to-face talk with me, they decided to waive the charge. They seem like honest people and I wouldn't hesitate to come back. read more

I went in for an inspection of the suspension on my wife's 2006 Nissan Sentra. Charlie came out and took a look. When he found out that it was the rear struts were bad, he told me another local company could replace the struts for cheaper than Hi-Land and referred me to them. This is what they are about--taking care of the customer. It's rare that you find a mechanic you can trust, and I would trust Hi-Land and Charlie 100% to fix my car and not overcharge me for it. Then, they didn't charge me when my car wouldn't act up is the shop, but suggested that I replace the distributor on my own since they thought it may be the problem, but weren't sure. I am sitting here in awe of how awesome Hi-Land Garage is and how close they are to my home!! Rewind a year and a half ago, the Subaru Dealership told me I needed to get my head gaskets changed because I had a leak - and they quoted me at $1500+. I never took my car back to the dealership out of fear because I didn't have the money and I didn't understand why all of a sudden my 2010 car needed such a fix. Fast forward to recent, my tax return came in and I had the money to get my car fixed. I called Kurt of Hi-Land Garage and he said, "Why don't you bring it in and we'll take a quick look at it, we'll let you know what we would do if it was our car." I brought it in on Friday morning for them to have a quick glance of what needed to be done. Within minutes they said that the gaskets were not much to worry about and they offered to keep an eye on it with every oil change. I said that a friend told me that at 105K+ plus miles I should probably get my timing belt done and they were able to schedule me as soon as Monday, from that Friday. Super quick!! For the timing belt/water pump kit, oil change, air filter and cabin air filter they quoted me on Friday at a price and I go to pay today (Monday) and the price was on point!! No changes, no surprises. All is well!! I can't wait to tell everyone about Hi-Land Garage; their honesty, their caring demeanor and how dependable they are.
