Guess my bad for not checking but these days, I've been trusting the sellers so I don't have to open all the bags and containers and contaminate the food. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night and it was surprisingly busy. This place is located next to Little Sheep and was easy to find. I had trouble finding parking in the plaza so I had to park on the streets in the neighborhood nearby but there are plenty of parking in the neighborhoods. I think most people come here for either the dry pot or noodle dishes. I decided to try a DIY spice dry pot and got beef, cuttlefish roll, and lotus root. You can choose different spice levels but I went with the no spicy level. I tried my friends mild and it ended up being a bit spicy for me but I have really low tolerance for spicy food. The food was pretty good. The beef was really tender and flavorful - definitely recommend this as a add on. I also really liked having lotus root but wasn't a big fan on the cuttlefish roll. As you would expect from a Chinese place, the service wasn't the best but also not terrible. At least they still brought us things we asked for in a timely manner. We got the DIY dry pot with several toppings of our choice. It was good. The flavor was a bit different than the typical dry pot joints in the bay area. It was more MSG heavy, but tasted good. The portion size was less for the price compared to other similar joints in the area. 3.5/5. We got 2 other dishes. Boiled fish fillet with hot chilli oil and Kung Pao chicken. The boiled fish dish is one of my favorite dishes in the Sichuan cuisine. I have had it in several places, and have also made this at home. They totally destroyed the dish. It lacked flavor completely, and the bean sprouts were almost raw. As if they were just thrown in at random. The quantity was a lot, but it's useless for a dish that was so tasteless. 1/5 The Kung Pao chicken was the worst dish by far. It was ordered for one of our friends, and we all tasted it too. It was pretty much eating a slurry of soy sauce with a little corn starch. That's it. It was just ridiculous. (negative 1)/5 And the service was just terrible. They started rushing us 30 mins before closing to finish our meal. Apparently when the clock hits their "closing time" we won't be allowed to finish our meal. When we asked for an extra serving of rice, the look they gave was outright insulting. It is to be noted that there was still more than 15 mins left by their clock, and we were paying extra for the rice. We would have asked them to replace the latter 2 dishes, or at least the kung pao chicken, since it was specifically for a person and she could barely eat anything. But given the fact that they kept reminding us it's almost time to leave, we did not take a chance. Certainly not recommended. Also, if you flip over the menu, you can order stir fries and other normal dishes. The sauce that is making these pot are a bit to the sweet and Shacha flavor instead. I only tried the beef, not sure if that is what they do for all pots. At the end, there are plenty of oil left overs that made me feel a little unhealthy. I absolutely love this place! You essentially order a pot and they give you a whole smithering of things all sautéed together in this amazing schezuan inspired seasoning. They have 9 pots where they picked out all the meats inside, but if you're picky like me you can even build your own! Every pot will come with cauliflower, potato, celery, and tofu skin. For the build your own, you can choose 3 additional toppings- I usually go for their sausage, beef, and fish fillet. The sausage is so good! You can also customize the spice level of the pot, so for those people who like it mild, it still works out! I got mild spiciness, and it was the perfect amount if you want a kick but don't want to be sweating while you're eating. The portion is pretty huge, and they don't skimp on the meats here. i got the DIY extra spicy dry pot and it was pretty good! they give a good amount of meat and the spice level was really good. i have a pretty high spice tolerance and the extra spicy was perfect for me. my one complaint is that it doesn't really have mala flavor, just plain spicy, and i would have preferred more mala for the dry pot. it's a small restaurant with only a couple people working so the service might be slower but they're attending to lots of people so it's definitely understandable. i've been here a few times and can recommend it if you're looking for good spicy dry pot! read more

after sizzling pot king and bel cool, i decided to give it a try at hipot. we ordered the DIY pot with beef, lamb and chicken gristle in medium spicy. we added the king oyster mushroom and frozen tofu additionally i definitely like hipot much better than sizzling pot king. although it's still not quite like the kind i have in china, the taste is at least good enough to make me want to consider coming back again. they used sliced beef and lamb (thank god) and both tastes pretty good. the chicken gristle isn't very fresh and it has tiny bone pieces in..so maybe avoid that option. king oyster mushroom is actually really good but i wish they gave more pieces...the frozen tofu is just avg and i felt like it has a bit of a sour tasting. otherwise, the taste of the food is decent. i hope they can provide fresher ingredients in the future! read more
