If I could give this place zero stars I would! Went here for my mother in laws birthday dinner. Upon arrival I needed to use the restroom. I walked into the ladies room and the first thing I noticed was the garbage can was overflowing with paper towel and it was ALL OVER the floor. When I opened the stall I found all 3 toilets were covered in urine, one had paper towel in it and all over it and the third had what looked like feces or puke all over the toilet bowl and seat. The floor was also covered in urine and was sticky and disgusting. I immediately approached a member of the waitstaff and let them know their bathrooms needed some immediate attention. I then waited about 5 minutes and after nothing had been done I approached the hostess at the front and asked to speak to a manager about it. To make a long story short she would not let me speak to a manager, gave me a total attitude and told me to "wait 15 minutes" I then informed her I was not going to wait 15 minutes , that this is a serious health code violation and I needed to speak with someone to handle this now. She then told me she would see what she could do. Well about 10 minutes later someone went in there and picked up the paper towel off the floor, took the paper towel off the middle seat but did not clean anything. At this point I just decided to skip the bathroom and also skip my dinner because if that's what they call "clean" there was no way I was going to eat anything prepared in that kitchen. I get that patrons can really mess up a bathroom, but I felt I shouldn't have had to address it not once but twice, and the complete lack of concern from the employees was very disheartening. Not one person apologized or addressed the bathroom situation while we were there, in fact when we were leaving the hostess made a B line the other direction. My family and I then headed across the street to Panera so we could use the bathroom and I got some dinner there. I can't begin to express my disappointment with the way this situation was handled. First, there is little food. They need more food and deserts, too. Most of the food was under/overcooked. The general tso's chicken had pink in the middle. Next, the staff is friendy, but they take too long to collect plates or bring a refill. They also do not fill the food back up, they just stir it around every 5 minutes. This was a good buffet know you are limited to the amount of crab legs you can eat. My father is 93 and eat every little as it is and has no teeth but loves crab legs let the old man eat . He uses a pair of scissor to help cut his food small and the greeter embarrassed him by telling him he could not use them. We waited 5 minutes until we were seated and they weren't even that busy. Waitress asked what we wanted to drink and she never came back with our drinks and she sees me holding my toddler and I asked her again if I can have a high chair. I went to this buffet many times. Today I first use the 10percent off coupon, in the bill, it shows the discount is after the tax. I argued with the waitresses, they both told me they always did the discount after the regular price plus the tax. Was shopping on Van Dyke and decided to try this out. Our "usual" buffet place is Mongolian Buffet off of 12 & Ryan but we are trying to get out of that rut. The place is smaller than I thought from the outside but I really liked the layout of the buffet in the center of the place with the hibachi and sushi end to end at the back of the restaurant. The buffet was the typical chinese food buffet--nothing really stood out at unique enough to get me to change up my routine. After we had to hunt down a server for some silverware (not a huge deal, she forgot and apologized profusely) we dug in. You aren't going to find anything here that you wouldn't find at any other buffet. Some offer a few more atypical Asian dishes, some offer more Americanized dishes. I think this place has stuck with what works and is popular. Some of the things I liked: 1) Food looked and tasted fresh, even for a Monday night. 2) Sushi was a very nice cool temperature--unlike some buffets where the sushi gets a little lukewarm and gets kind of nasty tasting. 3) Good soup. Loved the "sweet and sour" (which, I assume, is their version of hot and sour). 4) Seafood was plentiful and no one was knuckle dragging over the bowl. 5) REAL ice cream! Don't fool yourselves into thinking those soft serve machines are real ice cream. I used to clean one of those machines for a local pet store/boarding facility (don't ask) and they are nasty if they aren't cleaned properly or the product sits too long in the machine. YUCK. Hibachi has a nice clean ice cream station and it's very good. Very few things I didn't like but some of the dishes, like General Chicken and the Hibachi chicken on the buffet were WAY too sweet. Came here for my 16th Birthday as of 01/06/18 the food was absolutely amazing, service was horrible. Everyone had fun but the waitress were pressuring us about the bill within the same hour we came. As one waitress left to ask about the bill, another entered. After everyone had paid halfway through the dinner, they still kept coming in and asking if everyone had paid. They charged us 15-22% gratuity PER PERSON and charge everyone over 13 as an adult. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

I decided to go for a nice family dinner tonight and chose Hibachi Buffet since I was waiting for it to open back when the sign said "Hibachi Buffett". Thank goodness that was fixed because the inner A plus English student in me was extremely annoyed every time I drove by. The layout is wonderful--many open areas for seating, food in the middle of the restaurant instead of to an awkward side or in the back as other places usually do. The food wasn't bad, plenty of buffet staples such as your General Tsao chicken, vegetable noodles, string beans, and so on. I'm not sure if there was a lack of crab legs tonight but I witnessed a customer asking one of the servers if there were any more crab legs and the lady brought out like three clusters after the customer inquired. Later on I saw a few more clusters brought out at a time. The oyster bar was good with nice, meaty oysters but after we grabbed a plate of about 10 oysters, I didn't see any more being put out. Maybe I should ask next time. The sushi was not that great. Most of it looked dried out. Not very appealing. Flavor was meh. All in all I'd say we had a pretty good meal for a good price. I think I'll go here when my normal Chinese buffet appetite needs to be fulfilled but I'll probably go to Fuji for their seafood when I can afford it. read more

I went there for Father's Day and I knew that it would be packed so that did not bother me. What bothered me was the fact that they jacked up the price for the holiday. I love Asian food. There are Asian restaurants around with high prices, bad manus and dirty restrooms. I've never been to Hibachi before and discovered it with a coupon that came in my junk mail. I had a great pleasure last week to see friendly staff, clean restrooms and great food with very effordable prices. I enjoyed the grill dish with a skilled preparation, no additional cost! It was a big surprize! Last January I dined in Japanese Buffet (don't remember the name) in Royal Oak. The food was 4 times more expensive, nothing special and a very difficult paid parking. The Hibachi Buffet on Van Dyke gives you quality food for your money, free parking and very relaxed environment. I have recommended it to my family and will spread the word among my friends. It also offeres great place for parties, no additional charge. Way to go! read more

I decided to go here after a trip to Walmart. This was a big mistake. I ended up getting food poisoning from this place. First off, none of the food was fresh at all, they were all sitting in the heater for too long. Secondly, service was okay, but there is a fee for excessive waste (which is bogus because the food was nasty and cold). I've been to many Chinese buffets and I could easily say that this is one of the worse ones I have ate at. I would not recommend eating here at all. read more

Terrible! The food from the buffet tasted like it had been sitting there since yesterday. I tried a little of a lot of things and it was cold or rubbery from sitting out so long. Someone came and gave us our drinks but didn't say anything and just walked away and didn't check on us until we were walking to the register. Note: I/we don't 'normally' write reviews but I said I was going to for this business because it truly does deserve better than some have written (although, we totally understand that everyone's visit and experience is different.. this has been our experiences). Personally, I have now eaten here 6 times since November 2014 and while each visit was a bit of a difference experience, overall, the food has always been basically the same. FOOD: ~~ the Hibachi grill area is a Super plus... someone is always there to help you (never had to ring a bell or wait for the chef), the meat, fish, poultry, vegetables etc.. choices are always fresh and many to choose from. Yes, it is restricted to 1 steak per person but that should be reasonable to most. ~~ The sushi bar is Exceptional, fresh with many choices (now, I personally don't eat any of that but have had at least one other person with me every visit and that is how they have all described it). ~~ Crab legs are small but decent, only once had to wait for a re-fill which didn't take much time and NEVER seen fighting over them. ~~ The prepared Hot dishes have been 'basically' kept up and whenever one was running low or out, we simply asked and more was brought out. All the choices we have all eaten, were cooked properly and none of us ever had any complaints OTHER THAN... sadly, the chicken dishes like the General Tao's and Crispy Chicken are NOT all white meat like at all other buffets we have dined at. The sauce is plentiful and delicious but at least 4 of us do not enjoy dark meat so we have taken to getting breast meat from another location and going back to top it with the sauce from the original dishes. ~~ As for the comment on rolls... well, wish we had that problem.. hehe.. only twice when I have been there were there any rolls and truly wonderful rolls they were. ~~ Never any complaints on the soups, always hot and truly taste like they should. ~~ Fruit and Salad bar... the fresh fruit is cut up and prepared for easy eating, some come with sauces while others do not but a nice seasonal selection. Yes, salad bar is smaller than most but is fresh and a truly acceptable assortment to make a decent salad (if you come to a HABACHI Buffet for only a salad bar, you are probably making the wrong choice). ~~ Desserts are ALL the normal that these buffets have but again, ALL, they do not have just 2 or 3 choices, they basically have the majority of them (again, I personally do not eat these buffet cakes and stuff but others do and they do have many to choose from) along with 3-4 different hand scoop hard ice creams and jello and pudding is usually on salad bar. ~~ Drinks are soft drinks (sadly, Coke products), water and tea etc.. no alcohol and sometimes it does take a bit to get a re-fill but once you ask, there is no problem. SERVICE: ~~ for the most part, the service has been extremely friendly! The greeter has always been kind ~ now aside from this last visit last week where we had a semi large birthday party, we haven't had any other contact with him other than sitting us and paying the bill but we have never had a problem with him... the servers have always been semi friendly- they have one male that is very outgoing and he truly wanted to make our visit a nice one.. most of the female servers basically want to do their job, not be in your face and just give you what you need (unfortunately on our first visit there last year, we had 2 female 'servers' that we felt were a bit put-off by us being there??? at least that is how it felt to us. It was not closing time or anything but they just made us feel like us being there was a problem for them that night ~ they were jumping up and down on the higher level cleaning vegetables so maybe we were cramping their time??) Yes, the knives are not with your place setting but they are on the buffet which is where we have found them with most buffets or you can ask and they will bring you one. ATMOSPHERE: ~~ this location is large and inviting... it has ALWAYS been Very clean, including the restrooms. It is a buffet so naturally, it is a FAMILY environment. There is occasionally going to be children (some more behaved than others) but one takes that risk when you go and that truly is not any fault of the owners/managers/servers (remember, they are also having to 'put-up' with anything you are experiencing also). Because of its size, it is 'usually' easy enough to ask to sit where there are no children (in one of their smaller rooms) & they have been very accommodating when asked as long as there is availability .. which there 'may' not be on weekends. OK ~ guess I've had my LONGGGGG say (see why I don't write reviews..hehe) but just felt it fair & just to write this one... we drive quite a long way to this location & none of us live 'close' to it but we find that it is a GREAT place to meet up & enjoy a meal together whether as a couple or with family & friends. read more
