Fancy Stuffed Potato
Angela A.

I've been living near Bellaire, TX for around 2 years now and I pass the this bbq spot pretty often. I've always thought about trying but never did until around a month ago. Way better than I ever expected! I recently visited for the second time and I ordered the Fancy Stuffed Potato. Everything from the potato and ingredients within the potato were very succulent! The beef was cooked well and seasoned perfectly. I also ordered the green beans and peach cobbler on the side. The peach cobbler was good despite what I initially assumed. The times that I have been to this bbq spot it's always pretty empty, but I've only gone during the late evening, so I'm not sure of the traffic they may get earlier in the day. However, I definitely plan to eat here again!

I was driving down Rice Ave and could not help smelling the smoke from this place. I was hungry and happened to be craving BBQ at that exact moment so I thought I'd give it a go. The portions were humongous! I got the ribs and brisket plate. The side selection is limited, but they do give you quite a bit. The ribs were 4/5 - very well cooked, moist, tender and smokey - loved them! The brisket was a different story - tough and dry...I feel like I could make better brisket - I'd give it 2/5. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the sauce was definitely a winner. I have to admit that I'm the type of person who seems to like sauces on the sweeter side, but I found this sauce very good even though it wasn't sweet at all. If I come by again, I'll just stick with the ribs.

The staff is incredibly friendly, offers free samples while you decide, and never makes you feel rushed despite how busy they are. The portions are generous, the quality is outstanding, and you get more food than you might expect for the price. Be sure to try all of their sauces! If you're debating whether the wait is worth it, trust me: it is.

"Truthfully", this is probably my favorite barbecue spot in Houston…read more In general, it works like most barbecue joints -- you go through a line and order by the pound or get a plate, with the sides as you go through the cafateria style line. Their selection of meats and sides is really above average compared to a lot of places. Every side I've tried here I've actually liked. They use Martin's bread, and they'll give you your accoutrements like pickles, escabeche, and the like. If you like those, make sure you ask for extra up front -- there's no stand to go grab them later, so you've got to get them when you go through the line. Large seating area with many large tables and a full service bar. The seating does get a little filled up when they are busy. I suggest coming early and being in line before doors open. Brisket: 4.5/5 Sausage: 5/5 Turkey Brest: 5/5 Escabeche & picadillo sides:5/5 Barbecue sauce: 4.5/5 Tater tot casserole:5/5 Mac & cheese:4/5 It's pretty consistent -- out of all the times I've been, there was only once where I was a little let down by the brisket. But in general it's top notch, probably the best you're going to get in Houston. Would recommend and return.

I stayed tucked away in my carrier the entire visit while Mom ordered at the counter. This is a casual spot where you order first and then either take your food to go or grab a table. We ordered takeout but stayed long enough to enjoy our meal inside. Mom got the pork ribs and brisket, plus a baked potato, mashed potatoes, beans, and fried okra. Everything smelled amazing. Naturally, I volunteered to help with quality control and was rewarded with a few samples of the meat. The brisket was particularly noteworthy. The restaurant doesn't have outdoor seating, so I would recommend calling ahead if you're traveling with a dog and want to verify their pet policy. Everyone was friendly during our visit, but I don't want to accidentally get another pup in trouble. If you're looking for delicious Texas barbecue in Houston, this place is definitely worth a stop. Dogba's verdict: The carrier was acceptable. The brisket was exceptional.

I ordered the ribs in the jalapeño cheddar sausage, but got the brisket with sausage.. very happy they mixed that one up because the brisket was extremely juicy tender and had a great flavor on that bark. I'm adjusting my review to reflect Veronica's willingness to turn this experience into an opportunity. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant while staying at a hotel in Houston for medical treatments. We had it delivered to our hotel and sadly it wasn't the best experience. When we got our order to the room we were missing one side that we ordered. We got Mac n cheese, green beans and potato salad with a brisket/smoked chicken combo and a brisket/ribs. I was shocked to see two pieces of brisket and a chicken breast for $28. Maybe it was an off night but the quality just wasn't there. All the food was cold (our fault bc we ordered it for delivery) and was lacking flavor. Overall, we'd rate it like this: Brisket 3/5 Chicken 2/5 Mac n cheese 1.5/5 Green beans 3/5 Ribs 3/5 Potato salad 2/5 Maybe they were having a bad night but I wish our experience was better.

There are no frills about this place, it honestly just feels like your ma and pa shop. There are a few seats at the restaurant, I think this is a good spot for you to order to go. Here's what we ordered. I got the Fried catfish with green beans and cabbage and my friend ordered the chopped beef sandwich with fries. I definitely had to get some kool aid as well. My fish was cooked to perfection. It was fried hard & the batter was crispy. The batter didn't miss a pinch of seasoning. Probably one of the best fried catfish's I've had. The green beans and cabbage were forgettable. Seasoning wasn't really there except for heat. My friend sandwich was decent. The bread was nicely toasted with butter. The meat could've been more tendered but not bad because it was seasoned. Maybe a little salty but better than bland. The fries was definitely made in house and it was delicious. My kool aid was made just right, sweet. Overall, it was very good. I would come back just for the catfish. They definitely made it with love. Next time I'll try something different along with the catfish as well. Shoutout to Regina, I think she's the owner/manager. Great service.
