Visited from out of town & steakhouse caught our eye. It was fine; just a classic old-style steakhouse. Dark, peanuts at the table that you can toss on the floor when done. We used to love coming here, great food, portions and prices; however, last night we were so disappointed. Service was great, but food mediocre, portions smaller and increased prices. We met friends for dinner around 6pm. We like this place because of the casual atmosphere, complimentary peanuts and sweet rolls with honey butter and friendly, attentive service. Our table ordered ribeye steaks, entree salads, soup, and sandwiches. I ordered the entree Caesar salad with blackened salmon. It wasn't as large as I expected for the $20.49 price tag. My salmon filet was about 3 oz. Definitely not a dinner portion. Not only was the salmon filet super small, but overcooked and dry as well. This is a usual order for me at many different restaurants and by far this portion was the least impressive. So disappointing. My husband ordered the ribeye steak with fries and side salad for $35.99. He was so excited because we've had steaks here in the past and they were delicious. This time the steak was super thin, like maybe a quarter inch thick. So strange. Plus he ordered it medium rare, and it was more on the medium side. I'm guessing it's difficult to cook a steak that thin to medium rare?! He also ordered two pints of Black Butte Porter beers. They were $5.75 each...probably the only items on our bill priced reasonably. Overall a disappointing experience. Our server was great. He kept our beverages filled, got our orders right and kept the complimentary rolls coming. Probably won't return anytime soon. read more

Three of us came for supper. Two ordered the Senior Teryaki Chicken meal and I ordered the Grilled Salmon meal with two sides. Both of my fellow diners said their chicken breast was overcooked and dry. Bit enjoyed their sides as well as the rolls with honey butter. I specifically asked that my salmon be cooked no more than medium. Unfortunately it was WELL DONE and dry. No amount of lemon or seasoning could help it. My baked potato and garden salad were the highlight of the meal. Definitely will be a while before we try here again. No amount of free peanuts or rolls with honey butter can make up for overcooked dry proteins. read more

I will never be back. Not sure what happened since I had been there a few years ago but this time was horrible. I ordered nachos and they were cold, so cold in fact that the cheese had already gelatinized. My friend ordered the starter sampler and her food was cold too. The only person who got hot food was my mom who ordered the chicken tortilla soup. It took forever to get our food while other folks were getting their food much quicker. I imagine our food was sitting under a half working heat lamp and who knows where the server was. Gross, gross, gross. Did I mention gross? I ordered the half ribs and they were terrible. They were dry and overcooked. Not tender. I believe they were not freshly cooked. I asked for a new half rack. If you are a party of 8 or more, don't try to meet in the lounge, staff will move you to the restaurant because the round tables in the lounge don't support larger parties. Ok. Not a problem, except if it's happy hour, your group won't get Happy Hour prices because you are not in the lounge!??? I tried to discuss with the manager. However, after several calls (at different times) manager is not in. Staff doesn't have her schedule (she's in & out) & staff won't give her name! We are a group o f 6-12 retirees, who get together for food and drinks at various restaurants around Vancouver. This place is absolutely amazing, this nostalgic place takes you back in time. As you can see from one of the pictures, they have a menu with a telephone at every table although they don't work it's a really cool vibe. To be able to take your kids or grandkids there and show them what it used to be like when we were young.. The staff was amazing very polite, very helpful with the menu something you don't always get in today's restaurant experience. I happened upon this place as I was driving through to go pick up a load further north in Washington state. I would much rather stop and eat here at Dad's. Than to spend my money at some corporation that feeds you crap. Anytime in my adventures across the country if I'm able to stop at a family owned restaurant you bet I will be there. The food was great, service was with gratitude! I suggest you try the jalapeño stuffed tots. They were really good. I was in Vancouver on business for four nights and tried fancy, expensive restaurants. Billygan's was my best experience! I sat in the bar and enjoyed a delicious Tom Collins. Ordered the lemon pepper salmon with baked potato and steamed broccoli. It all came out super hot and fresh and delicious!! Tender, crispy crust salmon, fluffy baked potato with perfect coarse-salted skin, and a very very generous side of broccoli! Also loved the warm honey roll with butter. Warning: Do not go here if you or any member of your party has a peanut allergy. When we arrived, the hostess grabbed a basket of peanuts as she was taking us to our table, and we had to politely ask her not to bring them. The staff should be trained to ask. More importantly, there should be a sign outside the door that notes they have peanut shells and dust on the tables, seats, and floor. This could be life-threatening to people with nut allergies. We left immediately. I was quite disappointed by the complete absence of labeling of potential life-threatening situations and the poor training of staff. read more

Kind of a divey place, they give you a bowl of nuts and complimentary rolls with honey butter, so good! I wish they brought more! But the seating areas are dimly lit, and we didn't get any plates for the bread. The prime rib and mashed potatoes tasted great, I was pleased with the 8oz portion. My husband ordered the New York steak and it was a little overcooked, but it still tasted good and the baked potato was good too. Good service from our waitress, I'd try it again, knowing it's by no means a fancy place but has good steak at a reasonable price. read more

Well we have been several times since my last post and had decent visits. Gave them a shot on Valentines day. Headed out early afternoon and were seated right away. Drinks and orders went in right away. Sampler plate of appetizers came out fast. Love their onion rings. Mottzarella sticks, potatoe skins, and nachos were good. Fish and chips platter was great and everthing was hot. Fillet came out great, cooked as ordered, and warm. Then it all went gunnysack. The NY was barely warm to touch and felt firm. Baked potatoe was not done and about the same temp. I knew I was in trouble. I am a medium rare guy. Anything more is burnt for me. No pink at all is Jerky. Both ends of the steak were well done no pink. The very middle had the faintest line of pink. Not even remotely close to cooked correctly. Didn't taste bad but a real disappointment in a place the used to cook a pretty good steak. How do you serve a hard baked potatoes? Didn't naked a stink about it as it was Valentines Day. Service was good and the ambiance hasn't changed in years so all was on par. I will give them another chance but wouldn't order a steak again. One they burned one I won't try again. read more

What a change this place is. We normally go to Billygan's often. We love the steaks and other things they serve. However, our recent visit has definitely changed our opinion. It's not all due to the server or food but to the way we expressed our frustration and how it was handled. Should I say not handled. I can't say the food was great tonight. We felt like we were sent to time out because our server was not on the ball. Our table seemed to be the last she had time for. Also, our ribeye we had ordered came covered in BBQ sauce. We discovered it wasn't the one we had ordered. Ever order a ribeye and have it covered in BBQ sauce? Well, we hadn't either but she never checked to see how our food was. If she had, we would have realized it was just the wrong steak. Oh.... we also would have sent back the mac'n cheese. We complained on the way out. Hostess wasn't interested. Tried calling back. Since my brother was visiting, I decided to take my mother, hubby, and kiddo to enjoy dinner with him at Billygan's. Maybe it was the time, but I was not thrilled. The hosts seemed more intereted in their own conversation than seating us. When we were seated, I asked for a specific table (big round one so we can spread out). I was denied and instead, was given a table right in the middle of other people. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not over COVID. I still like to spread out. I asked the server, she also said no, but at least she asked someone else and they let us move. Once we sat, it took a bit to get our order. Same server, same area(ish) so it wasn't like she had to walk to a different section of the restaurant. Food, I was underwhelmed. The potato was not as fluffy as usual and the salad did not seem fresh. My mother did not finish her meal. I am hoping that things do improve. We paused Christmas shopping and had lunch. Because it was quite chilly out I was hoping for some soup. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and was not disappointed. It was really kind and appreciated. My ribeye was good. Solid 4. Broccoli was inedible. Obviously previously frozen and had an unappealing flavor. I love broccoli so it was disappointing. Side salad "everything" on it. The bacon was a nice touch and made it decent. I wish I had doubled ordered that instead of the broccoli. The cool hole in the wall aspect for me was the roasted peanuts. I've forgotten how much I love shelled peanuts. Reminds me of going to ballgames as a kid. And they were freaking delicious. Service was slow, food was fine. Wife spilled her water and when staff came to clean it up the bus person picked up my water glass by grabbing it with his fingers inside the glass. No effort was made to refill my wife's water or replace mine. On top of that they got my nieces order wrong and took 20 minutes to correct the mistake. Normally like Billygan's just fine. My sister and I went for happy hour looking for something light. We sat down in a booth and waited, when the waiter arrived we told him we wanted the happy hour menu and he says ooops sorry you just missed happy hour by 1 minute! I pointed out that we waited for him for over a minute but he wouldn't budge. At any rate we ordered side salads and sweet potatoes fries. No sooner had we ordered when the kitchen guy came out with the fries, I couldn't understand how he could have cooked them that fast. So then I tried one and it was ICE cold. Apparently they must be precooking things and then just reheating, but nonetheless less of course we didn't want ice cold fries, so sent them back, and received them again with a large amount of oil included, it was a less then ideal culinary experience, so as not to give a bad review I guess try this place at your own risk. Maybe some of the other items on the menu are good, that being said the side salads were ok. Enjoy...! Love this place so much. The kid and I stopped in for dinner tonight. I've probably been here 10 times and I've never had a single complaint about the place. I love it. Portion sizes are great, prices are great, the staff is always great. Our server tonight was a sweet girl named Autumn. She was there when we needed her and gave us perfect service. Offered me a 32oz beer which I gladly took her up on, and gave me an amazing recommendation on how to turn my steak salad into the 2.0 version. My son had the Philly with onion rings. Both were the bomb.com, especially the onion rings that are hand made there for only a 2.50 upgrade charge and well worth it. I had the steak salad with a side of ranch which tamed down the balsamic tang nicely. It was a really good salad. And a kolsch by gigantic in the 32 oz mason jar. I'd order both again. But I won't cause I order something different each time and I've never been disappointed. Toss all that well prepared food together with some warm buns and honey butter, free peanuts that you can throw on the ground, aaand amazing service with a pretty smile?! Wow 10/10 our server Sam was so incredibly nice!! He kept bringing us rolls and when we mentioned we are pregnant he was so happy for us! He asked us questions about my pregnancy and just felt very genuine. Food was also super tasty no complaints from my husband or I! Billygans is fun because you get a bowl of peanuts that you can just toss on the floor when done crackin! It's inviting and well kept. Definitely will stop by again! I took my sons out to dinner for a birthday dinner. We ordered three meals and an appetizer and it was $135 with tip. My prime rib was gray like it had been boiled and had no seasoning. My loaded baked potato have bacon bits, no butter no sour cream. Philly cheese looked good but the bun was soggy. The appetizer platter three of the four items were good. What a pleasant surprise! Since COVID, my expectations of dining experiences have been lowered considerably. The satisfaction index was just raised. First, on a 95 degree day, walking in to a nice, cool, dimly lit woodsy place creates a restful, cozy ambience. Next was our server, Mercedes. Her genuinely upbeat demeanor, coupled with her very attentive service throughout the meal, added to the dining pleasure. Now to the coup de grâce: the food. We were craving a "burger and a beer" devoid of fast food overtones. The bleu cheese and bacon burger was exquisite and tender. Yes, my toes curled until they were cramping. I substituted onion rings for the French fries so as to get my serving of vegetables. Go healthy, eat more onion rings. I anticipate many more visits...prime rib, ribeyes and pot roast must be sequentially sampled. We ate in a dining room booth but the raised lounge definitely has a "Cheers" atmosphere. Perhaps my visits will become so frequent that many may holler "Norm!" when I walk in. Ergo, if you're craving a "burger and a beer", or other roadhouse cuisine, in a friendly, cozy spot, go to Billygan's. Ask for Mercedes. Tell her "Norm" sent you. read more

Bottom line: it's a great place to eat and try off the beaten path. The saying, "...don't judge a book by its cover," definitely applies to this establishment. The food is a solid 3-stars (almost 4) but the service makes it a great four star establishment. The menu has a variety of steakhouse favorites with variety of cuts and some select seafood items for those that are looking for something lighter. There are other favorites from other well known establishments that are also available here like the "The Great Onion" which are reminiscent of a "Bloomin Onion" or the "Great Cactus Blossom" from Outback Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse, respectively. The food itself was cooked well but like most steakhouses, double-downs on the fats, aioli dressings, and fried items. Overall: it's definitely a place we'd visit again and a must try. Aside from the nice staff, the food is going downhill. My husband ordered a few things to go. The ribs which were dry and then the loaded potato if you can call it that. My pictures don't do it justice and actually make it appear somewhat better than it actually looked. This was far far far from loaded and very shriveled.
