Nice layout and lots of flat screen TV's but my food was pretty bad. I had a "smoother chicken" pretty hard to ruin chicken but this wasn't good. Not sure exactly what the sauce was but it wasn't very good. 'But but the chicken breast itself was the real problem...RUBBER. Now I would have normally sent this back to the kitchen and opted for something else but at a corporate dinner you just don't want to be that guy. I opted to indicated that I wasn't really very hungry as I left it over. The apps were equally not very good and overall everyone quickly admited the following day that nobody very much liked their food. I ordered take out from this restaurant twice and was hoping it would be good because it's hard to find places that are open past 10PM in Cary. On my first visit I ordered a French Dip and fries. The sandwich was perfect but I think they forgot to put on about 1/2 the meat. You can get twice the amount at Arby's for about 1/2 the price. I actually pinged them on FB and commented the same as above. Had to ping them twice before anyone replied. Reply said the GM would call me back. The GM called me very early which is fine, I said I was still waking up and asked him to call me later on. He never called back. Liked that sandwich so much I convinced myself there must been some type of mistake. Went again, ordered at the bar, and it took 35 minutes for it to be ready. Took it home and it was the same. Stopped in for a light bite and drinks on a Saturday afternoon. The bar area was empty, we were quickly greeted and menus were provided. I ordered a spritzer and pretzel bites appetizer. The bartender was in training which was ok, she was friendly and offered suggestions for drinks. My drink took a while but the appetizer took too long. I had finished my drink and finally app showed up. I have a feeling she forgot to place my app order. I think the service was extremely slow. When we got in, the waitress advised us that she was the only one working the section (which was quite large) - but that was fine with us. We weren't in any hurry and she did a fantastic job, even with how busy it was. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger as an entrée The table shared the BBQ Chicken Nachos (large size) and an order of Pretzel Bites as an app. The good: The apps were on point. The pretzels were soft on the inside and firm on the outside. The cheese dip was flavorful. The nachos were delicious as well. I'd order them again. Someone else in our group ordered some wings, of which I had some. They were juicy and plump. A+ The bad: My burger was dry as a bone unfortunately as was my wife's burger. We were the only two at the table to order burgers, and I wouldn't order one again. No flavor, no juicy bites, all dry and bland. Overall: I'd come back for the wings, apps, atmosphere, and service. Would NOT order another burger. It would have been a 5/5 but the burger dragged it down to a 3. I was there as part of a group of maybe 25 - 30 people, and we had outside patio/small corner room. For a group of that size, we experienced great service and I have no complaints about the staff. Having to deliver drinks and food to people who won't sit down and constantly change spots is a PITA and they handled it well. The food was well, meh. It came out fresh, far as I could tell there wasn't any issues due to our group size they brought it as available. We started ordering drinks and random appetizers and then went for dinner while some sat inside and others hung out outdoors. My drink of choice in the evening is a moscow mule, they had them and offered Tito's vodka which is a bonus. They came in a metal cup (not copper, but who cares). The down side is, uh, i couldn't taste anything titos or vodka-y or even slightly feeling groovy buzz after two of them, and dunno what ginger beer they used but I really couldn't taste it other than a slight tang. Far as I know, got two watered down carbonated water you get when the mix runs out. The appetizers were ok, the flat bread pizza (Steak and Brie) was good, i also tried something that I forgot the name of but it was a shredded potato bacon ball deep fried, can't screw that up. Wings were alright, the price per wing ratio wasn't great and a large isn't eight wings, that's a snack at other places. Dinner was ho-hum. I had a french dip because I've not had on in a while. I didn't look close at the menu, but the only thing I got after ordering it was the french dip sandwich, the au jus, and some not that horse-radishy horseradish sauce. It looked pretty lonely there on the giant plate there in the middle when I got it. I'd have thought chips, or fries, or something came with it but didn't have the menu to look back so either they forgot it, or holy hell someone should say something that you're getting just the sammich. read more

Where do I begin? I came in on Mother's Day with my 3 young kids (my husband is away on business). After being seated, I put the kid's order in (before I even picked up a menu) because I wanted to get their food out sooner than later. Um... I'm glad I did because their food came out before the server even came back for me to put in my order! I should have not even ordered my food at that point. I did, but it was taking so long, I flagged down the waitress and asked her to have the kitchen box it up because I couldn't wait any longer... this wasn't even the worst of it. I had my girls carry their milk out when we left and when we got to the car, my one daughter says "I don't like it though... it tastes like CHEESE." So I open her cup, take a whiff and OH MY GOD - THE MILK WAS SPOILED. NOT ONLY DID IT SMELL, THERE WERE F-ING CHUNKS FLOATING IN IT! I opened my other daughter's cup and HERS WAS SPOILED WITH CHUNKS IN IT AS WELL. I then go back inside and notify the 2 girls at the hostess desk AND a gentleman who appeared to be a manager that my kids were served SPOILED MILK, and all I got was a "That's awful" and a "Sorry". No, "Hey, let me refund your meals." Or "Hey, we want you to come back and see us again to give you a better experience... here's a gift card and your next meal is on us." It just boggles my mind, like... either the milk was left out/stored at the wrong temp OR, it was severely out of date. Milk doesn't "chunk up" when stored at proper temp even if it's old... I've had milk past it's expiration and it didn't chunk. Makes me wonder if other food isn't stored at the proper temp. I just paid $40 for lunch, including a meal that I didn't even get to enjoy there because it took so long PLUS now my stomach is off just thinking about my kiddos being served rotten milk AND now I get to be on high alert because my kids are probably going to be barfing all afternoon. I had a great experience a week ago , this was not that experience, for one I never even got to order a entree because the appetizers took so long to come out , started off ordering drinks and the ones me & my fiancé were wrong . Took nearly 15 mins to get the drinks , appetizers finally came out 20 mins after we got there , one was cold already , had sent it back and took another 20 mins to get the new one , so now we're on a hour and I didn't eat , never saw the manager walking around anymore , and when they did notice we were waiting they did not make eye contact , plus someone else gave us our check after we were left alone for so long , terrible experience, never again read more

If you go to this hickory tavern make sure you have a bullhorn to announce that you are here.. If not you won't be seated until.. The staff literally will walk pass you looking you in the eye over and over.. Bang bang shrimp shouldn't take 30 mins.. Especially when told 10-15 mins.. Oh and I guess the phone doesn't work either.. and I'm all for being busy but when I walked into the establishment.. it was anything but that.. Ventured out to Parkside Town Commons in Cary for lunch and ate at Hickory Tavern. Ate at one of their high top tables and started the meal with their nachos deluxe which was loaded with chili, jack and cheddar cheese, queso, jalapeños, tomatoes and sour cream. For the meal, had some of their wings and their southern fried chicken BLT. The wings were saucy and delicious. The sandwich had a good flavor, except the chicken was cooked a little too crispy for my liking. Overall a good experience and will go back to try some of their other menu offerings. read more

I recently stopped in here for lunch. The service was good. The place definitely had a sports bar feel all around with lots of tv's everywhere. Plenty of seating options with booths tables high tops and outdoor seating. Lots of parking outside. The menu is large with something for everybody. Burgers sandwiches and plates. Also wings. I had a hard time picking one thing since so many things sounded good. I got the piled high Ruben. This was a seriously good sandwich. The bread was grilled up nice. It was a huge double decker sandwich with lots of corned beef. Very delicious. Just the right amount of kraut and thousand island dressing. Steak fries were good and cooked up nice. Yes, it's a sports bar, and the ambiance caters to that. It gets LOUD enough and the acoustics are so terrible that one cannot have a decent conversation at their table. With that said, the Health Nut Salad is the most awesome salad I have had in quite a while, and I am not a health not by any stretch of the imagination. This is my go-to meal here. Service can be slow depending on how busy the place is. Sometimes it is great, sometimes not so much, and each time I have been here, the place has been packed or nearly packed. We stopped at the tavern for a drink and food and to watch some NFL. The place was kinda busy at the bar where we sat. There was only one bartender and he was running around trying to get orders and drinks. On a Sunday afternoon with the NFL on there should be more then 1 bartender. It took 20 minutes to get a drink then another 25 minutes to order food. A woman working there took our order and was rude cause we had to ask her to take our order. I've been here three times. The first time was so much fun, the food was good, and our waitress was really nice. The second our food was good but we had a different waitress and she was terrible! She barely ever came to our table but when she did, she brought me a second beer when I didn't ask for it (I get if it was water but this was a paid, alcoholic drink...you should always ask). I think this is one of the most underrated restaurants in the area. I've been here three times - all in the past couple of months - one for drinks and apps, twice for dinner. Every time, I've had a different server, but every time, I've had impeccable service. The staff are affable and competent and they check in frequently, but not frequently enough to be annoying. They are great at offering recommendations when I can't decide what I want. It's not Angus Barn white glove service, but it's above and beyond what I expect from a chain, especially in the current staffing climate. As for the food, I haven't had a bad dish yet. My first trip, my husband and I shared the pretzel bites with queso - so delicious. Salty, sweet, with queso for dipping... it was heavenly! When we brought his parents for dinner, we all got something different. I had the shrimp tacos with the brussels sprouts as a side. I generally hate brussels sprouts but these were delicious. My only complaint is that they could have used a little more sauce, just because I don't like to taste the actual brussels sprout part. The shrimp tacos were simple but delicious. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned. My father-in-law got the chicken BLT, my husband got the fried grouper sandwich, and my mother-in-law got the grilled chicken. Everyone found their meal to be delicious. I am not a coleslaw fan, but my father-in-law raved about the side dish of coleslaw he got so much that the waiter brought him a second one. I also snatched more than a couple tater tots off of my husband's plate. They were everything a tater tot should be. When I was there before, they had taken tuna off the menu temporarily but I was in luck tonight - it's back! I went with the tuna tacos. They were so good! They are packed with carrots, edamame, and lettuce so it felt like I was eating something super healthy. The tuna was perfectly seasoned and seared. I chose the baked potato as my side dish because I wasn't feeling anything fried. Oh my gosh, the baked potato was his big as my head! The skin was salt-rubbed and crunchy, and the inside was stuffed with cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits (I had them leave off the chives). I know, that probably undid all the "healthy" credit I got for the tacos. But I ain't sad about it. read more

I have been here a few times this month and it was always excellent. My wife and I sit at the bar and the service is great. Today we had Tyler, Ariel, and another young lady that were very attentive. We ordered Wings with Bee Sting sauce, Onion Rings, and Chicken quesadilla. The wings were cooked perfectly as crispy and moist and the Onion rings were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The quesadilla was packed with chicken and came out hot. We were greated by the GM named Jamie and he was very interested in how our food and service was and if there were any complaints. It was another great night at Hickory and I will be going there again. If you want a good place to go to watch any sporting event Hickory Tavern is a great place for you. There are so many TV's so you can watch several different games simultaneously. If you are looking for a nice date night place, this is definitely not it. It was very loud in there, so although this was not a date, my friends and I felt like we had to yell to hear each other, so I can only imagine how off-putting it could feel to be here for some QT. This is a place my husband and I often come to after a rough day at work to unwind and have some drinks. It's always been a nice experience. My favorite dish is the blackened chicken mac n cheese bowl. It's so good! Last time around I had a some strawberry cocktail but I don't recall the name of the drink. They don't jip you on the alcohol here either. Too many restaurants serve cocktail drinks that barely contain alcohol. However, Typically after one mixed drink at Hickory Tavern I'm feeling nice which is why it's our go to for a nice time, good food, good drinks, and good convo.
